Seirin's New Manager [5]

“Mina…” Aya looked at them curiously. “You said you didn’t play during middle school!” Riko said still surprised. Aya scratched the back of her head. “I didn’t” she said. Tetsuya just stared at her with his normal emotionless face and listened to her. ‘He didn’t tell her’ he thought. “I don’t know why but when I watch teenagers play basketball at our street court I always had the urge to join them” she reasoned.

Riko and the other players were still silent and just looked at the girl. “Uh” Riko snapped out of her thoughts. “Alright team, let’s continue practicing, Aya, can I talk to you for a second?” Riko said gesturing over to the bench. Aya approached her before Riko talked to her.

“Oi Tetsuya” Taiga called his teammate catching his attention. “You told me you know her right?” he asked as Tetsuya nodded. “How did you know her anyway? And what’s up with her skill in basketball if she didn’t play anything during middle school?” he asked the questions running through his head. Tetsuya’s face turned serious even though Taiga couldn’t tell. (He has the same expression as the others). There was a long pause before Tetsuya spoke: “I’ll tell you sometime”

“Manager?” Aya wondered looking at the coach who smiled at her. “Uh huh” she smiled. “You’re pretty good when it comes to basketball so I figured you can be teach some of your knowledge to the team, you know, if it’s okay with you” she answered sheepishly. “Okay” Aya agreed. “Really?” Riko widened her eyes feeling a bit excited. “Of course” Aya smiled. “Besides…” she looked at the court. “Basketball helps me remember my past…” she mentioned quietly.

“Remember your past?” Riko wondered. ‘What does she mean by that?’ she thought.

“Well, I don’t really remember my middle school times” Aya reasoned scratching the back of her head.

Aya

“Well, I don’t really remember my middle school times” I reasoned scratching the back of my head.

I open my eyes, finding myself on a hospital bed. I was in a hospital room. My head was bandaged, I felt my whole body ache, my leg was in cast and my head hurts. I saw a red haired guy sleeping beside my bed. He held my hand in his as he slept loudly. I tried to move but my body failed me. The only thing I could feel is my hand and fingers. My hand made its way the teen’s face as I caressed his cheek. ‘Who is he?’ I thought myself as I examined his sleeping face. His eyes suddenly opened and saw my finger moving. He was surprised at first but then started to talk. “A-Aya”

“W-Who are you?” I asked him as his face went down. He had a hurt expression on his face but he didn’t want me to see it so he turned around. The hospital door suddenly flew open revealing my brother, his eyes filled with tears, dropping a grocery bag he was carrying and ran over to me. “A-Aya” he cried hugging me. “Aya…” he sobbed. “Nii-chan, what happened?” I asked hugging him back. I looked over to the red haired guy and saw him exit the hospital room leaving me and my brother alone.

“Accident?” Riko wondered looking at me with a shocked expression. “Yeah, my brother told it was a car accident and that’s why he decided to put me to home school” I answered as coach listened attentively. She’s a great listener; I should give her some credit. “Nii-san was over protective so he from then on he never leave me alone, well except when going to the bathroom” I explained as Riko nodded. “I can relate my dad’s the same to me” she smiled. “But didn’t your brother tell you about your past?”

“Well he did, but I think he didn’t tell me all” I answered. “Why not?” she wondered looking curiously at me. “Well I’m not sure if he didn’t tell me all, because I always kept dreaming about colorful balls around me” I reasoned scratching the back of my head. Riko-senpai looked at me like I was crazy. “In other words, the memories he told you are… missing something? Like a puzzle?” I nodded and added: “And basketball helps that, I don’t know why” Coach Riko just nodded as I smiled at her. That’s weird; I remember smiling to a girl too. And no I’m not a lesbian…

I continued to watch them practice even though I don’t know what type of move they were doing. I know how to do it but I don’t know what’s it called. Looking over at Taicchi, I can see he’s dedicated to this sport.  I can tell that just by looking at his eyes. It’s red orbs was full of determination. I remember seeing a pair of them before, but those eyes were different, they were emotionless. Hm, to whom did those eyes belong anyway?

“Hm” I tapped my chin trying to remember the guy who possessed those red emotionless eyes. But my memory was blurry, I can’t remember the face, all I know that his eyes were red. “Is there something wrong Aya?” Coach Riko asked me. “Oh nothing, I just remembered something” I waved it off with a smile. “Is it something about your past?” she asked. “No-No, I just…” I paused. “It’s nothing”

She looked at me and nodded before clapping her hands catching the team’s attention. “All right mina!” she called as all the members of the basketball club gathered in front of her. “Our next match is Shutoku high which means we’ll be facing one of the Generation of Miracles again: Shintaro Midorima.

Third Person’s POV

After ‘Generation of Miracles’ was mentioned, Tetsuya immediately looked at Aya. He was waiting for her reaction. Hoping that she’s recognize the term that he wanted. But her face was blank. ‘She didn’t recognize them’ Tetsuya thought with disappointment.

“We need to increase our defense power against their shooting guard” the coach continued babbling about the strategy they would use against Shutoku high. Aya just sat there listening while swaying her legs as she sat on the bench. Tetsuya #2 caught her attention as she stared into its blue eyes. “Oi that dog looks like you, Kuro-chan” she snapped pointing at the small dog by the bench. The talking was paused as the members looked at her. ‘Kuro-chan?’ they thought of the nickname Aya has just given the phantom. Tetsuya just smiled at her watching her approach and play with his dog. “What’s his name?”

“Tetsuya #2” he answered approaching the girl and carrying his pet in his hands. “I see you named him after you because you two look alike” Aya understood. Tetsuya just took that as a compliment. ‘Well he doesn’t look like a dog!’ for sure someone would think about that.  “Yes” he smiled again surprising the whole team. ‘DID HE JUST SMILE AT HER?!’ they all thought.

‘HE MUST LIKE HER!’ Shinji thought.

‘THEY MUST BE SECRETLY DATING!’ Teppei assumed.

‘THIS GIRL JUST MADE THE EMOTIONLESS KUROKO SMILE!’ Junpei exclaimed in his head in disbelief.

“All right, that’s it for today!” Riko dismissed them as they proceeded to their locker rooms. “Ah, Kuroko-kun and Kagami-kun, you’ll be on cleaning duty today” she reminded the duo and went on her way. “Kagami-kun, I’ll go get the mops, you pick up the balls” Tetsuya ordered his partner giving his dog to Aya and went to the storage room to get their cleaning materials. “Why do I have to pick up the balls?!” Taiga complained but he was too late. Tetsuya was already gone. “Don’t worry Taicchi I’ll help you clean up!” Aya assured volunteering in cleaning. “Huh? Why? You’re not even in the basketball club” Taiga looked at her weirdly. “What are you talking about?! I’m your new manager now!” she shouted at him. “HUH? Why didn’t Coach mention it huh?!” Taiga retorted. “She must’ve forgotten” Aya thought. “Well, manager or not, I’m helping you and that’s it! Plus, we have Tetsuya #2 here to help too!” she shoved the pet dog in front of Taiga causing him to jolt away from it. “Get that thing away from me!” he hissed looking scared at the dog. “What’s wrong with a cute dog like him? He’s cute!” Aya ignored Taiga’s statement instead; she chased Taiga along with the dog in her hands. Tetsuya returned with mops and saw the scene that made him smile again. ‘It’s just like that time’ he remembered a funny memory during his middle school days.

“Aka! Look! Look!” Aya entered the gym with a furry pet in her hands. She carried the cute puppy she just picked up by the street and showed it to Akashi. “I saw it at the street nearby!” she smiled. “Huh? Aya, what is that?” he asked sternly, showing no interest at the animal in front of him. “It’s a dog! Don’t you know what a dog is?! And I thought you know everything!” Aya pouted. “I do know everything. I just don’t waste my time on knowing such creatures that don’t interest me” he said turning his back at her. “Get rid of it, now” he ordered bluntly like he didn’t care about the animal at all. Well, he didn’t really. “Hmph, no!” she protested. The other regulars were surprised that she didn’t follow Akashi’s orders. “I don’t want seeing it at the gym, get rid of it” he repeated more sternly, and his voice got higher. “If you don’t want in the gym fine, but I won’t get rid of it, I’ll just keep it at home!” Aya stated stubbornly and made her way outside the gym. “Oi, Ayachci, aren’t you going to watch our practice?” Kise called behind her. “NO!” was her last word before slamming the gym door and walked off. Akashi just shook his head at her. She was the only one that can disobey him like that. ‘She’s stubborn’ he thought and just turned his attention to his fellow teammates.
