If she was here [36]

"AYA!" Akashi knelt beside her and carried her in his arms. The other players ran towards her and checked if she was okay. "Don't just stand there! Call an ambulance! Call Yamato!" Akashi ordered them as they all flinched and did what he said.

Akashi and Daiki carried her to the bench to let her lay down there at the moment, while waiting for the ambulance. He let her breath in and out but she had a hard time doing so. "C'mon Aya, don't loose your breath," he told her.

Momoi called an ambulance while Tetsuya hesitantly called Yamato. "Mush mush!" Yamato answered his phone. You can tell he was happy and at the same time eating, with his mouth full affecting the way he spoke.

"Yamato-senpai..." Tetsuya replied with a deep sigh. "Aya... she..." he was hesitant on telling him and was surprised by Akashi who took the phone from him and continued talking to Yamato.

"Yamato-san, sorry for the interruption but..." he started then paused for a while. "Aya... her asthma attacked again," he informed Aya's brother. There was a long pause after he said that.

Yamato dropped everything he was holding and sprinted towards the hospital Akashi has texted him. "Not again," he cursed under his breath.

Yamato arrived at the hospital and almost tripped himself when he reached the room where Aya was. All of the players waited there outside, all were silent before Yamato could ask what happened. He was panting and sweating at the same time. You could tell that he ran from wherever he was from to the hospital.

"Ah well Aya... she--" "It was my fault Yamato-senpai," Tetsuya overlapped Taiga, bowing his head at Yamato, apologetically. "I shouldn't let her play, I should've stop her..." he looked at the ground blaming himself.

Yamato saw his sad look and sighed. He patted Tetsuya's hair and looked at the room door where Aya was being held in. "Don't be. It's not your fault Tetsuya," he ruffled his hair. "Let's just focus on Aya's health at the moment. Let's hope that she'll be fine," Tetsuya looked at him and nodded. "By the way, where's Seijuro?"

Tetsuya stiffened a bit and answered Yamato's question. "He's up in the rooftop by himself. If you want, I'll go get him for you," Yamato shook his head.

"Nah, it's fine. I'll go there to talk to him," he gave a sly smile and walked towards the rooftop of the hospital to see Akashi staring at the blue sky with an emotionless expression on his face. He approached the red head and leaned on the metal bars then raised his head. "Nice weather we're having."

Akashi glanced at the player then back at the sky. "It would be better if birds were flying too," he commented.

"You're referring to my bird brain sister, aren't you?" Yamato assumed as Akashi nodded his head making Yamato chuckle but it quickly die out. "Don't blame yourself Akashi," he told him.

"You know sometimes, I really hate her," Akashi sneered closing his eyes then opened it when he looked at Yamato. "I don't blame myself. I blame her for being stupid and irresponsible," he glared at him and was about to leave when Yamato spoke up.

"You know she had to do it. She wanted to remember you."

"I didn't want her to remember--" "But Tetsuya and the others did," Yamato snapped. "They wanted her to remember. So she could recognize you again. And things would return the same."

"Things wouldn't be the same again," Yamato sighed at Akashi's response and looked up at the sky again. Thinking of his sister, he thought of the words she'd say if she was there with them. Look at the bright side. He heard his sister's voice and remembered the times Aya had stay strong with him whenever he had a problem.

"If she was here, she'd say 'look at the bright side' and just smile at me," Akashi mentioned. "But there isn't a bright side anymore. She's not here," he trailed off and left Yamato at the rooftop walking away.

"Yamato-san!" Riko came running with Junpei as they approached Yamato who was about to go return to the E.R. "We heard about Aya! Is she okay?" Junpei asked with a hint of worry on his voice.

Yamato smiled sadly at them and replied: "At the moment I don't know. She's still at the E.R. and I was about to go talk to the doctor about her condition. I guess you guys have to wait until I'm done talking to the doctor."

"I understand. We'll be waiting" Riko nodded with Junpei.

"Okay, I guess I'll be going," Yamato waved goodbye leaving the two at the hallway.

"Senpai," Tetsuya appeared behind the two second years startling them.

"Kuroko-kun, it's you," Riko exhaled putting her hand on her heart in relief. "Stop doing that!" Junpei complained a nerve popping. He relaxed and pushed his glasses up. "Where are the others?"

Tetsuya led the two to the cafeteria where the GoM and the rest of the team were silently waiting for Tetsuya and hopefully, for Aya to be okay. "C-Coach!" Shinji exclaimed standing up. "We're so sorry about Aya! We didn't meant to--"

"It's not your fault Koganei-kun, stop apologizing," Riko cut him off as he bowed down to apologize. Riko sighed. She looked at the players who were quiet and bummed. They were all worried about her, and some felt guilty for letting her play basketball. 'If Aya was here. she'd be smiling at them to brighten up their day'.
