2/ in the hospital
Rapunzel POV
Rapunzel slowly woke up to a bright light shining in her face. She had had a horrible nightmare.
"Mom." She muttered, half asleep. "Turn off the lights."
But the lights didn't look like hers. Neither did the bed or the room or the faces staring down at her.
She opened her eyes all the way to see a blurry Merida, Hiccup,, and this other weird looking guy staring down at her.
Merida breathed a sigh of relief. "Rapunzel!"
She tackled her in a hug.
"Whoah!" Said the unfamiliar voice. "Careful."
Rapunzel was glad Merida had gotten off, because she was aching all over. But through her pain, in the back of her mind, she noted that Merida had called her Rapunzel which she only called her under serious events.
Rapunzel had a lot of questions, but the first to come out of her mouth was "what's up?"
As her eyes got used to the brightness, and her vision cleared, she thought that it looked like Merida and Hiccup had both been crying.
"What do you mean what's up!?" Merida cried.
Merida could usually stay calm under stressful situations, but she suddenly broke down crying. Hiccup awkwardly wrapped her in his arms and rubbed her back.
"Hey, hey," he said softly. "It's going to be ok." He turned to Rapunzel, still holding Merida. "Are you ok?" He asked.
Rapunzel nodded slowly. "Everything hurts, but I think I'm ok. Wh-why?" She was almost scared to hear the answer.
"Well... what do you remember?"
"I-I had a dream." Said Rapunzel. "We were ice skating. And it was so much fun. We were playing hockey, and having snow ball fights. But then, something went wrong. The ice started to break, and Jack, he threw me to the bank to save me. But h-he couldn't save himself." Rapunzel's voice broke. "Hiccup." She said. "It was real wasn't it? Jack. Ja-"
"It's ok." Said Hiccup, as Rapunzel started to sob with Merida. "Everything will be o-"
"No!" Screamed Rapunzel. "That's the biggest lie I've ever heard! Nothing is going to be ok! Nothing is ever going to be the same! I- he-Ja-" Rapunzel couldn't bring herself to say his name. Her voice broke, and she broke down crying again.
Just then, the doctor came in.
"Ok. Your 25 minutes is over." He said.
"But half of that time, Rapunzel was unconscious!" Merida protested.
"Sorry, Miss" the doctor said. "But it's the hospital's policy. Besides her parents are here now, and the doctors are ready to give her a check-up. We think her arm might be broken."
Rapunzel had just realized that her left arm was screaming with pain. She watched reluctantly as her friends headed toward the door.
Hiccup POV
Just before Hiccup turned the knob to exit the room, a lady came in.
"The police are here." She announced. "They want to question you about the accident."
Maybe Hiccup should have been thinking about what they were going to say, but he was thinking about what she had just said.
They want to question you about the accident. Accident? So that's what it was? Okay.
Hiccup was getting more and more fed up with this thing. First, when they called the police, the police thought they were some idiots trying to prank them. Then, the hospital wouldn't let Rapunzel in because they thought they were some idiotic pranksters. Couldn't they see her greenish skin and her obviously broken arm, and the fact that she was unconscious?
We think her arm might be broken. Well duh.
Then, the lady came in. They want to question you about the accident. The words echoed in Hiccup's mind. She had said it so calmly. Like oh. There goes another one.
Hiccup thought that every single person in the building should have been mourning or panicking. But no one seemed to notice the unconscious girl with the broken arm who's boyfriend had just died.
Then, Hiccup saw the police. The way they stood there, draining their coffee with annoyed looks on their faces like, ugh. Chief made us go and question these juveniles about their best friend's accident. My life sucks.
One cop nudged the other as Merida and Hiccup came into the room.
"Good day ma'am." Said one of them, and the other nodded a hello to Hiccup.
Hiccup wanted to scream Oh yeah! Great day, isn't it? Perfect weather for kids dying here and there! But Merida kind of did it for him.
"It's been an amazing day so far!" She yelled, her face showing that, indeed, it was not an amazing day for Rapunzel Williams, Hiccup Addamsson, and Merida Dunbar. "Not even my best friends death could ruin it!"
Apparently, she was as fed up as Hiccup was.
"Woah, woah, calm down." Said one of them.
"Yeah." agreed the other. "Don't forget who your talking to." They flashed their police badges.
Merida's eyes screamed murder, and even Hiccup would have shouted a few words in his mind (which was not him at all) but they both knew that getting sent to juvenile delinquent prison wouldn't make their day any better.
"So." Said the first police. "Why don't you take a seat?"
None of them sat. Hiccup had too much angry energy burning inside of him.
"Ok." the police continued. "Or not. Anyway, we're hear to question you about your friend's death. His name was... Jackson Frost, I believe?"
"Jack." Muttered Merida.
"Merida." Hiccup said, trying to calm her down.
"I'm sorry?" Said the police man.
"His name is Jack!" She shouted.
Hiccup figured she was so frustrated that she would have picked a fight on anything and everything.
"Ok..." said the other cop. "Anyway, can one of you tell is the story?"
Obviously, none of them wanted to tell these idiots how their friend had died, but they had no choice. Seeing the state Merida was in, Hiccup piped up.
"We were playing hockey." He began. "On a pond near by my house. We had been skating for a while, when the ice started to crack, and Jack fell in."
The way Hiccup had said it made Jack sound so un heroic and careless. If only Rapunzel were there. She was always better at these under pressure talks.
The cop nodded lazily. "Mmhmm" he said. "And how did your friend get injured?" He asked, nodding his head toward Rapunzel's door.
Hiccup seized the chance to redeem Jack.
"Rapunzel was standing with Jack when it happened." He explained. "He knew that they couldn't both get out safely, so he threw her to the bank to save her. She must have landed on her arm or something. But he saved her life."
"Ok" said the cop. "You know, you shouldn't throw people around like that. It's very dangerous."
That was it. How could they say something like that? Jack had sacrificed himself to save Rapunzel. He couldn't exactly set her down carefully on the snow.
Without a word, Hiccup and Merida both turned at the exact same time, and walked down the hallway.
"Hey!" Yelled the cop. "We're not finished!"
But the two teenagers ignored them, and continued to walk away, more anger boiling inside of them than they had ever felt.
