Chapter 17

“So you’re that rude ass woman that answered the phone earlier,” Levi spat the moment he heard her speak. She was so tempting to squeeze but not in the good way.

“How dare you come into this house speaking like that?” she asked heatedly, her face beginning to contort to a fiery red. “I’m certain Mr. Ackerman will not appreciate that. I heard him earlier. You can’t lie now,” said her in, what was it? Pride? “You’ve never called before, that means he doesn't know about your wicked dressing.”

“And you don’t know shit,” Levi growled, his head steadily beginning to swim but how dare he go weak in front of such a human. “Move before I aquiant my fist with your throat.”

“You dare speak to a woman like that!?”

“You’re hardly a human with that behaviour! Continue pissing me off and I’ll make sure you never do it again.”

The woman was red, Levi was cool but angry and that combination wasn’t healthy for a person. Especially one with an awaiting case of mysterious blanking. He could tell, the little shit was about to slam the door in Levi’s face which would have been hilarious when she’d be dealt with but he was feeling tired. He would need a saving right about now so the relief Levi felt could be imagined the moment Kenny appeared out of nowhere. Praise the deities.

“What is the meaning of this?! Why were you about to slam the door in Levi’s face?!” Kenny asked, clearly enraged.

The woman opened the door with a forced smile, pretending she hadn’t just been trying to pick a fight with the shorter as he walked right past her with a smirk, .

“Hello, Uncle Kenny.”

“Levi, my favourite person!” Kenny said with a smile. “I haven’t seen you in ages.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, I saw you last week.”

“Ahh, yes. When you were dressed like a stripper.”

Levi glanced at him disappointedly, noticing the woman listening much too carefully for her own good.

“I already told you I wasn’t dressed like a damn stripper and can you tell your annoying house pet to stop bothering me and listening to my every word like an idiot.”

Kenny glanced at the woman who immediately turned away and walked down a side hallway out of view. She’d better stay there lest she cause a case of hypertension to arise within Levi’s already weak blood system.

“Please don’t bother Levi, Joan. I don’t want him to murder you,” Kenny called out loud enough for her to hear.

All they got in response was a slamming door and the echo that followed, Kenny shaking his head and Levi frowning in distaste. Sometimes he was glad he lived alone with no one to help in his castle. Especially in situations like this when he was in desperate need to calm his itchy hands.

“I think you should fire her,” Levi stated, after a moment of silence.

“And why is that?”

“She’s way too rude and she called me disgusting because I’m wearing a dress.”

He felt like a little child. One that would arrive home and tell their parents about the meaningless comments other kids said to them. But it was okay because the start of all insecurities within a human start from childhood and if situations aren’t dealt with, they leave an imprint whether one admits it or not. In this case, although Levi was full grown, a comment such as that could leave a nasty scar if his mental health wasn’t strong. Snitching on her to his Uncle reminded him all the more that he had never had a normal childhood and being able to complain to someone who would support him was rather relaxing in a way.

“There’s no way I’ll accept someone who doesn’t even know you to say that in MY house. Don’t worry, I’ll deal with her,” Kenny said, glaring in the direction Joan went.

Levi smiled happily, internally shaking with the pleasant feeling of excitement for the downfall of Joan.

“Do you have a room or somewhere I can rest? I’m going shopping with Erwin in a few hours and I don’t want to collapse again.”

“Erwin, huh? He’s a nice guy. You seem happier with him as well,” Kenny commented thoughtfully.

“How do you know he’s nice?” Levi asked, squinting his eyes. “Don’t tell me you went ahead and met him when I told you not to?”

“Of course not!”

“I don’t believe you but whatever. Where’s the room?”

“I’ll show you the way. But before that, do you want food?”

“No. I’m fine-” Levi cut himself off, rethinking his decision. “Nevermind, just give me some food.”

“If you’re willing to eat then this must be something big.”

“No, I don’t want to eat but Erwin said I had to.”

“I see.”

Kenny smirked to himself, liking Erwin more and more. If he was able to get Levi to eat, sleep, and come into town for the first time in years, then Kenny would accept any form of relationship that Levi and the other would form. If they would remain friends, then fine. If they became more than friends, then fine as well. The only thing Kenny wasn’t fond of was friends with benefits or Erwin hurting Levi. Then there’d be a problem and Kenny would risk everything to get in between.

“What do you want to eat?” Kenny asked, leading Levi to his grand, useless kitchen. He seriously didn’t need such a grand place but it was whatever. What else was he supposed to do with all his money?

“Tea and toast. I’m not hungry.”

Kenny, as the overly money loaded human he was, was going to call his chef to prepare it for Levi but after a scolding from Levi who said he would do it himself, he was left to watch his nephew feed himself.

“Wake me up at two-thirty if I fall asleep,” Levi instructed once they had gotten to the room.

“I will. Just make sure you get as much rest as possible.”

Kenny closed the door and left. Levi removed his dress and laid on the bed with only his stockings and boxer-briefs underneath. A large bed situated in the middle of the room and Levi wondered for the umpteenth time once again why his Uncle needed so much space. Surely there was no one in his life and the old geezer didn’t have children of any sort, unless you counted Levi as his son.

“It’s currently twelve so if I manage to sleep until two-thirty, that’ll be a horribly long sleep. Sounds impossible but mayhaps if I force myself.”

Levi closed his eyes, summoning the darkness to envelope him as he tried drifting off. The slight chill of the room feeling nice against his skin and the comforter resting over his waist down to his feet. It was obvious he wouldn’t fall asleep immediately and so he took that opportunity to reminisce over the happenings that took place that morning and smiled to himself.

“Erwin is a nice person. The nicest person that I’ve ever met. Not that I’ve met a lot,” Levi pointed out to himself. “All the brats were annoying but Armin was adorable and four eyes is too loud.”

Slowly, he started feeling himself lull off but he still wasn’t completely out. The temperature was just right and somehow, that reminded him of how comfortable it was to lean against Erwin’s chest.

“Maybe I can do that again,” Levi whispered. “If I don’t black out anytime soon I’ll just have to pretend. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.”

With a smile on his face, Levi felt a wave of sleepiness wash over him and slowly, much too slowly, he allowed his eyes to close only for sleep to consume him.
