Chapter 14

Levi listened carefully to what was being said, uncertain if he was just being polite, listening because it was Erwin teaching, or if the information was actually interesting to listen to. Mayhaps the only reason he thought history was so mind draining was because his tutor had taught it mixed up and confusing. He would have definitely listened more intently if she had been a nicer woman.

Before he knew it, he was itching to ask questions of his own. You know, like a goody two shoes student.

“Yes, Levi? It seems you’re more interested in my class than most of the students.”

“No, no, I’m fine. Carry on,” Levi replied quickly, waving a hand in dismissal and nearly embarrassed that he had been caught listening with wide eyes and his lips parted by an infinitesimal amount.

“You sure?”

Levi stared right into Erwin’s blue eyes, trying to stand his ground that he was nowhere similar to the slobbering brats. Especially the smart ones who actually asked questions and passed. But he couldn’t fight himself and before he knew it he was acting like an actual student.

“Okay, okay, you win,” Levi sighed while Erwin looked at him with a triumphant look. “So if one of the main goals was to get rid of all Jews, why did Hitler want to do that if he was said to be part Jew?”

“This question hasn’t been answered properly yet but some believe that he got trauma during the first world war after the Jews released a gas bomb and some think that he spent some time with a Jewish prostitute and developed a disease. Good question,” Erwin praised while Levi beamed proudly and twiddle his fingers.

Erwin’s class continued and Levi didn’t ask more questions, not wanting to be seen twiddling his fingers happily like a six year old again. It was twenty minutes left before it would be time for another class and Erwin suddenly stopped, glancing at the class clock.

“Class, our time is nearly over and I’ve arranged with Professor Hanji to come and talk to you a little bit about how the gas bombs and fumes affected the human body.”

Erwin glanced at Levi who was glaring at the ground and smiled a bit. He looked like a furious kitten.

“You can go somewhere else if you like,” Erwin whispered, getting closer to where Levi was sitting.

“No, I’m fine. I’ll just stay here and hope they won’t try to tackle me to the ground.”

Erwin let out a quiet chuckle and ruffled Levi’s hair a bit, the fluffy hair soft against the large hand.

“Tch. You messed up my hair, blondie," Levi huffed, swatting away the blond's hand.

“Of course,” Eren mumbled lowly but just loud enough so that everyone could hear him. ”I am now positive my sister and him are related. He wears dresses, she likes suits. He’s chummy with Mr. Smith and she’s chummy with the neighbour girl across the street.”

“Mr Jäger, those aren’t the kind of things you discuss in class,” Erwin said with a disappointed look.

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

Eren crossed his arms, looking away from the front and being met with Armin's refreshing eyes gazing at him. That alone made Eren sink down in his seat and remain quiet.

“Sir, can we ask your friend questions?” Armin asked, with pleading eyes, asking what everyone wanted to hear.

“Only if he agrees and only until Professor Hanji comes.”

All eyes turned to Levi and he rolled his eyes. Overly curious scoundrels.

“Fine, you smelly brats. Ask away.”

Suddenly, a whole sea of arms went in the air and Levi’s eyes widened in shock. Surely he wasn't that interesting.

“Alright then. Here we go. Erwin, do me the favor of calling on them.”

"Jean?" Erwin asked, doing as told.

"Why do you like dresses?"

"I don't have a specific reason. I just do."

“Armin?” Erwin called.

“You said that you haven’t left your home in years so why was that, where do you live, and how did you get your supplies?”

“Is he always this curious or is he being wary of me because you're his brother?" Levi asked, uncertain if he should be amused or annoyed.

"Always this curious. You don't have to answer him," Erwin chuckled, eyes fixed on Armin who was once again tinting red.

"He's adorable so I'll answer," Levi said, waving away Erwin's concern. "I didn't leave because I never felt the need to and I didn’t like people. I got all my supplies from my Uncle who sent them for me every week and I live in a castle in the forest,” Levi listed.

“A castle?”

“Yeah. It's been in my family for centuries and it’s passed down to the next head of the house.”

“So why did you get it?”

“That would be enough, Mr. Arlert,” Erwin interrupted, his little brother bowing his head low in apology for getting carried away. “I don’t think Levi is willing to answer that question. Miss Carolina?”

“What’s your favourite clothing article?”

"Blue dress. The top is form-fitting and the skirt is flowy and asymmetrical.”

“Ymir?”

“Why did you beat up Mr. Smith and Professor Hanji?”

“I didn’t beat them up," Levi snorted. "I just acquainted them with the ground because they were laughing at my height.”

“Hey, I wasn’t laughing at your height,” Erwin argued.

“Tch. You said and I quote, 'You’re so small.' Then you proceeded to laugh. Next person, if you will.”

Erwin shook his head and looked for someone else to call on.

“Connie?”

“What are you to Mr. Smith?”

“His friend, I suppose.”

“Only his friend?” a female asked.

“Yes, Sasha. I’m only Levi’s friend,” Erwin said.

“You sound disappointed about that Sir, or perhaps uncertain? Are you sure you’re only friends?”

“Yes. I'm certain Sasha.”

“I'm not sure, Sir. It appears you’re more than friends.”

“Exactly, Sir!”

“Don’t worry Sir, you can tell us!”

“Just tell us. We won’t tell anyone!”

“Class, you’re not understan-”

“Oi, shut up you brats. I already answered and so did Erwin.”

Erwin gave Levi a look of thanks, about to tell the class they had probably asked enough questions when Hanji burst through the door. Not only making the students all look at them in sync but also make Levi retract into his seat.

“Hello, class! Sorry I’m lat- LEVI?!”
