Chapter Twenty-Nine | The Final Battle

Camelot, the Next Morning

Regina woke up to find that Robin had already gotten ready and gone to get breakfast. She had been hoping that she would wake before he left, but she knew Merida and Snow needed his help to train the archers. Regina pulled her clothes from the previous day on since she needed ones that actually fit over her ever-growing stomach, and headed down to where breakfast was being served. She found Robin sitting next to Hook and Emma, almost done with his food. She sat down next to him and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"Good morning, love," he placed a kiss on the top of her head. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I want to die," Regina whined. "Except then Hades will stick me in the Labyrinth or something and we'll never get to raise our daughter."

"Mary Margaret and Merida should be able to manage on their own for a little while if you want me to stay with you," Robin offered.

Regina shook her head. "No, you should help. And Belle and I need to keep working on finding the lake of fire that the Prophecy of Revelation talks about."

"I think you need to get some rest," Robin argued. "Belle will understand. She's been in your position before."

"But I--" Regina was cut off by the doors opening. Ruby, Dorothy, and a blonde woman walked in, followed by a group of people Regina hadn't seen before. But by the way they looked at her, she had a pretty good idea who they were, and suddenly she wished she felt comfortable using magic because she definitely didn't need the awkward situation that was sure to come.

"Who are they?" Emma whispered.

"Children of the Moon," Regina replied. "Ruby's pack. She must have found them and convinced them to help."

"Do you want me to stay now?" Robin asked. Regina reluctantly nodded.

Rose leaned in so she could talk to Ruby without being overheard. "That's the Evil Queen," she warned. "She hunted us and forced us to retreat back to Arendelle in order to live."

"I know," Ruby shot back in a hushed voice. "But she's changed now, trust me. Besides, she won't use magic now that she's, er..."

"What?" Rose prompted.

"She's pregnant. The guy next to her is Robin, her husband. They have..." Ruby hesitated, trying to count in her head how many children and stepchildren Regina and Robin had. "You know what? It's complicated. But she's on our side, I promise."

Rose nodded and turned to face the Children of the Moon. "Everyone in this room is on our side. I don't care what they've done to you in the past, but we are on the same side right now. Our one goal is to defeat Hades, and then we can go back to our home in Arendelle."

There was muttering amongst the pack, but Rose was their leader, so they all agreed to not hold a grudge against anyone until after Hades was defeated.

"She's talking about me," Regina whispered to her husband after Rose's announcement. "I might have tried to hunt them down after Snow and Ruby found them. I ran them out of the Enchanted Forest, but didn't bother going further than that."

"Hey, it's okay. You've changed, and they're still alive."

Regina winced. "Not all of them. My knights killed two, at least."

"I'm sure Ruby has told them you've changed," Robin assured her. "And if they don't believe it, then they can have a nice chat with my fist."

Five Hours Later

Hades appeared in the middle of Camelot, where Cleo had predicted he would. Hercules, Mulan, Merida, and Emma were there to greet him.

"How sweet, the kingdoms think their alliance can stop me," Hades mocked. "Well I'm sorry to disappoint, but no amount of scrawny mortal soldiers from your petty kingdoms can stop me."

"Who says we just have mortals?" Emma asked innocently. "We have more than just knights who have been trained by the best warriors in all the realms, so maybe it's us who should be making threats, not you. What do you have, anyways? Fiery hair?" she taunted.

"I have more than that, savior. I thought you would have learned not to challenge me from what I made you go through in the Underworld?"

"I'm challenging you because of that!" Emma shouted, growing angry. "You kept Meg from her parents, you took advantage of Zelena, you trapped Killian, Neal, and many more in a tiny room, you locked everyone out of Elysium, you tricked Meg into killing her dad and breaking my friend's heart, and that's just the beginning! It's time that you learn who will always win. And trust me, the answer isn't you."

And then Hades' hair actually burst into flames and Emma had to force herself to act tough instead of dissolving in a fit of laughter. Hades raised his hands and a wave of magic swept through Camelot. A hand rose up out of the ground a few feet from Emma.

Emma groaned, annoyed rather than scared. "And I thought the zombie apocalypse was the one thing I wouldn't have to deal with."

"I will find the Firebird and get revenge on all of you," Hades promised. "You've defied a god for the last time." With that, Hades vanished.

Emma turned to Merida, Mulan, and Hercules. "Merida, lead your army. Mulan, you lead Ash-- Queen Cinderella's army. Hercules, you'll help Lancelot lead the Camelot army. And I'll lead the army from Arendelle. You know the plan from there."

The three other leaders nodded, before hurrying off to their designated armies.

Within ten minutes, the undead had swarmed Camelot. Lily attempted to burn them as a dragon from above, but it was hard to only hit the zombies and not the living, so she ended up having to fight on foot with a sword.

Rose and Ruby led the Children of the Moon in battle. As soon as the sun went down, they would turn into wolves, but until then, they fought with regular weapons.

Henry and Regina helped Violet and Jane find and heal the hurt soldiers, since they were stopped from being involved in the fighting.

Cleo had been instructed to flee to Arendelle, which was the kingdom that was farthest away. She would hide in the palace with the remaining guards as well as Kristoff and Anna protecting her.

Belle was under pressure to figure out where the lake of fire was, but she had no clues whatsoever, and she knew she had very little time left.

Arendelle

Anna hadn't been back for very long when the guards summoned her again. She walked out of her room, dreary eyed, to be met with the sight of a woman who was shaking.

"Did Queen Elsa send you?" Anna asked, not in the mood to lie to the guards. If Elsa sent someone to Arendelle, she had good reason.

The woman nodded. "My name is Cleo, but in this realm, I'm the Firebird. Elsa and Emma told me to come here and find Princess Anna, and that she would keep me safe from Hades."

Anna nodded. "Very well." She looked over to the guard, "Bring the remaining guards in here. We will protect Cleo until our last breath. Hades isn't going to get one more victory. Not while I'm in charge of Arendelle."

Camelot

Belle was locked in the library with Queen Guinevere. Most of the tables were covered in maps and books, but the two hadn't succeeded in finding anything.

"Do you have anything on Oz or Wonderland?" Belle asked desperately. She pulled a book out and flipped through the pages before deciding it was useless and dropping it.

"Maybe..." Guinevere pulled out a few books and set them on top of a map of Misthaven. "These are about other realms."

Belle opened up the top one and began skimming the pages, muttering things under her breath. "Wonderland...White Rabbit...maze...Underland...blue caterpillar...genies..." She slammed the book shut. "Nothing. And Will would have mentioned a lake of fire, probably." Belle whacked her palm against her forehead. "Think, Belle, think!"

Guinevere closed the second book and opened the third, flipping through pages that told of portals and magic and oceans, but no fiery lakes.

Belle's face suddenly lit up. "Phlegethon!"

"What?" Guinevere tried to ask, but Belle was already darting across the library, digging through a stack of books.

"The River Phlegethon!" Belle exclaimed. "One of the five rivers of the Underworld! It was said to also be the river of fire. And do you know what rivers often lead to?"

Guinevere smiled. "Lakes?"

Belle nodded, flipping through the pages of her book until she found the correct one. She ripped it out, silently apologizing for that and the mess she had created. "There's one person here who knows the Underworld just about as well as Hades."

"Who's that?" Guinevere asked, following Belle to the locked door.

"Megara! All we need to do it get to her."
