Chapter Thirteen | Souls of the Departed

Storybrooke Cemetery, The Next Day

Merida had agreed to let Henry use some of her potion to talk to Neal, so Henry poured about half of what she had given over Neal's grave and a few seconds later, he appeared across from Henry. "Hi-- Henry?"

Henry smiled. "Hi, Dad."

"Do you guys need more advice about the Firebird?"

Henry shook his head. "No, Cleo's doing fine. I just wanted to see you again. Regina told me about Merida's potion that allows you to talk to the dead and I..."

"Please tell me you didn't steal it. Although - and don't tell your mothers I said this - I would be quite proud of you if you did," Neal smirked. Once a thief, always a thief.

"No, I didn't steal it. Merida gave some to me. I think my mom wants to use some to talk to Robin again, but he doesn't have a grave and she won't admit it. But I did save some just in case."

"Tell her Robin's fine."

Henry nodded. "I will."

Henry and his dad stood in silence for a few moments before Neal finally spoke again. "So how have you been?"

"Good. I mean, for a while we all thought Zelena was going to take my unborn sister, but we got that sorted out, so things have calmed down, I guess."

"Well I'm glad she's not a threat anymore."

Neal and Henry talked for a few more minutes before the connection ended. Henry walked back over to Regina and silently handed her the what was left of Merida's potion.

Emma's House

Regina dropped Henry off at Emma's after he had the chance to talk with his dad again.

"How did it go?" Emma asked quietly as Henry walked past his moms and into the house.

"Good, I think. He misses Neal, but I guess that's to be expected."

"And how are you doing?"

"I'm fine."

"Regina..."

"I just wish I could use the potion to talk to Robin again," Regina blurted out. "But he doesn't have a grave - he doesn't even have a body to bury - and Hades has his soul, so it might not work anyways."

"What if we had a funeral?" Emma suggested. "We make it closed casket and then he'd have a proper burial and a grave. I mean, it's worth a try."

"I don't know..."

"It might be the only option."

Regina would have rather not attended a funeral for Robin because Emma would make her talk and that could only result in tears, but if it meant she might be able to see Robin again... "Okay. Let's try."

Storybrooke Cemetery, Three Days Later

Everyone gathered in the cemetery was dressed in black. Regina was supposed to speak, but she had no idea what she was going to say or even if she could make it three words without crying. But the funeral was the only way she might be able to talk to Robin again.

Emma elbowed Regina slightly to signal her it was time to speak. Regina slowly stood up and made her way to the front of the crowd. Emma gave her an encouraging smile from where she was standing and Regina began speaking softly. "We're gathered here today to mourn the loss of Robin of Locksley, better known as Robin Hood." Regina paused for a moment. That was as far as she had planned her speech and now that everyone was looking at her, she was really regretting agreeing to talking in the first place. Sure, she was the mayor, but talking at a funeral for her fiancé was different than talking at a council meeting. "I don't know if I would even be here today if it wasn't for Robin. He helped me through the Missing Year when I had lost all hope of seeing my son again. He believed in me when no one else would and he never looked at me as the Evil Queen. I just...I hope he knows how much I love him." Regina quickly walked back to her spot next to Emma before everyone saw her crying.

Emma wrapped her arms around the brunette. "You did good."

Regina squeezed her eyes shut as the tears leaked out of them. "Will this really work?"

"I don't know," Emma answered honestly. "I really don't know, Regina."

After the funeral ended, Mary Margaret stayed behind with Regina, who was holding onto the rest of the potion Merida had given Henry.

Regina poured the few leftover drops over Robin's grave. There was a very small chance she'd be able to get through, but she had to try. She stared at his grave for several minutes, studying the name engraved in the stone; Robin of Locksley.

As Regina was about to turn back to Mary Margaret so they could leave, Robin appeared across from her. "Robin!" Regina exclaimed. She was certain Robin could tell she had been crying, but she was too relieved that she got through to him to care.

"Regina," Robin breathed. "Are you okay?"

Regina would have lied if she had been talking to anyone besides Robin, but she spoke truthfully to Robin, "I don't know. There was this whole thing with Zelena and she made me forget about you, but she changed and tried to stop me from taking the antidote that would allow me to remember you because she thought the memories would be too painful. But I took the antidote anyways and...I don't know," Regina realized she was rambling and slowed her words so they didn't all run together. "I was just at your funeral."

"Zelena's changed?" Robin repeated.

Regina nodded, "Yeah. She's pregnant with Arthur's child and she didn't want me taking her baby again so they both stopped their plan, which was to take our baby and--" Regina stopped herself from talking and put a hand over her mouth. She wasn't going tell Robin about the baby so he didn't feel bad for leaving Regina to raise it on her own.

"Hades already told me you were pregnant," Robin whispered. "I'm sorry, I didn't know..."

"It's not your fault. I was the one who didn't tell you. I was going to, but then Hades came and--"

"Regina," Robin interrupted. "It's okay. I'm just glad neither of you are hurt."

Regina managed a small smile. "Yeah. How much longer do we have?"

"Thirty seconds? I'm sorry. I wish we could get a full connection."

Regina shook her head and felt her eyes tearing up. "No, even this much was nice." Regina was silent for a few more second before she blurted out an, "I love you."

Robin smiled sadly. "I love you too." The thief faded away and Regina felt tears falling once again. Mary Margaret rushed over to her and took Regina into her arms.

"Why?" Was all Regina could manage. "Why did he have to go?"

"So you didn't get hurt. Now let's get back to the loft; everyone's waiting."

The Charmings' Apartment

Zelena, Emma, David, Henry, and Meg were all at the Charmings' place waiting for Mary Margaret and Regina to return from the cemetery. When the door opened and the two entered, it was obvious Regina had been crying.

"How did it go?" Emma asked quietly. "Did you tell him?"

"Accidentally. But he already knew thanks to Hades."

"This isn't right," Zelena stood up. "I have Arthur here with me and I've been changed for four days. You've worked to change for years and yet your soulmate is the one trapped in the Underworld!"

"There's nothing we can do," Regina said. "It's too late."

"No. Robin, Neal, and Dorothy were all in the Throne Room when Hades released Arthur and I. We can go get Robin back."

"Neal is still trapped?!" Emma demanded, suddenly ready to bust into the Underworld with Zelena. "Hades promised to release him!"

"Hades doesn't like to keep his promises," Meg muttered. Suddenly, her eyes widened. "If Regina and Robin don't reunite, that means Regina isn't my real step-mom and Hades can drag me back to the Underworld as soon as he figures that out!"

"I vote we go put Hades in his place and free Robin, Neal, and Dorothy," Zelena announced.

"I second," Emma agreed.

"I'm in," Regina said.

"No way!" Mary Margaret argued. "Emma, you're off the hook for this one, but Regina and Zelena are not going to the Underworld while pregnant!"

"Just because I still care about Neal doesn't mean I'm breaking up with Hook," Emma muttered. Mary Margaret raised an eyebrow before she realized what she had told Emma.

"Nice one," Henry high-fived his birth mother.

Emma nodded. "Thanks." She turned back to Mary Margaret, "Anyways, I think Regina and Zelena should be able to go. It's Regina's soulmate we're talking about and this gives Zelena a chance to prove to Storybrooke that she really has changed."

"No," Mary Margaret was adamant. "No way."

Emma was about to argue some more when a thought hit her. "I need to talk to Regina and Zelena about the best way to get them out of the Underworld."

"You'll need the scythe, and that's at my house," Regina added, understanding where Emma was headed with this.

"And I have something that will help her through the Labyrinth in my cabin," Zelena lied.

Emma clapped her hands together. "I guess that settles it. "Zelena and Regina will help me get what I need and I'll bring them back here on my way to get Gold."

"He's going to be suffering some major blood loss if we don't stop our trips to the Underworld," David mused.

Emma shrugged. "But the place is just so addicting."
