Chapter 21
My heart grew warm when I heard her gasp, and I knew that she was in awe again over this place. I wanted to look at her, to see her face, but I was happy to have her on my back and for her to be comfortable around me. And, I didn't want her to move from her spot only so that I could see her face and how she looked while she looked at the cove.
"Well?" my sister asked impatiently, and I could have growled a warning at her if it wasn't for the fact that my mate didn't know about Werewolves again. She stole a glance at me and shot me an apologetic look before she looked at my mate with a raised eyebrow. "What do you think?"
"It's beautiful," she breathed out, the awe in her voice strong. She sounded so breathless that it stole my breath away and left me speechless, even though I wasn't the one with my breath stolen. "I've been here before," she said. "Haven't I?" She squeezed me, and I knew that she wanted me to answer her query.
I nodded in confirmation and cleared my throat. "Yes," I said, my voice cracking for some reason. I cleared my throat again and licked my lips while I stared at the sight before us. "You've been here a lot over your childhood."
"Huh," she said and nodded slowly. She looked the way that she came before she looked around. "There was another way to get here, wasn't there?" she asked. She moved her legs straight, and I knew that she wanted to stand on her own two feet again.
"Maybe," I replied and gently set her down on her feet again. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and looked at her, her eyes shining bright like stars glowing against a dark background.
I cleared my throat and licked my lips, and her gaze went to them. A small blush appeared on my face, and I cleared my throat again because she left me so speechless that I couldn't form any other words.
Melody bit her lip to keep herself from laughing at me, and when the laugh did escape, she covered it up with a cough. "What do you remember?" she asked, still trying not to laugh at the fact that I was so speechless around her.
'Shut up,' I said, and she shot me a grin. I narrowed my eyes at her when my mate wasn't looking, and my sister's grin grew wider and more triumphant. 'Why the hell are you making fun of me?'
Serenity shrugged and cleared her throat. "Not much," she admitted. She rubbed the bridge of her nose and grimaced while she tried to remember a past that was taken away from her. "All I remember is... chasing a young boy around, and he would dart into a clearing and then plunge into a lake." She shook her head and sighed, annoyed. "I think he tried to scare me once or twice from the lake, but that is it."
'Because you are acting like a lovesick pup, TJ,' she replied smugly, and I scowled and narrowed my eyes at her. "There is another way through some trees that guards this place, but this is the best place to get the whole view." She gestured around the area, and Serenity took in all of the sights that this place had to offer. "Besides, this is the best place to jump into the lake."
'When you meet your mate, you will understand,' I replied, pressing my lips into a thin line. 'I can not wait for you to meet yours, and you look like a lovesick pup when you are in his presence.'
Serenity hesitated but nodded while my sister glared at me. She furrowed her brows in confusion and looked around before she looked at me and caught my innocent look. She furrowed her brows further and cocked her head while she studied me. "Why are you looking like that?" she asked. "Why do you have an innocent but not innocent look going on?"
"I have no idea what you mean," I replied and kept looking innocent. 'Thanks, Mel,' I said sarcastically, and she gave me a smug look.
Serenity frowned and ducked her chin closer to her chest while she gave me a pointed look, and I had to keep the innocent look going, even though all I wanted to do was smile at her softly. Her blue eyes were filled with amusement, and I could tell that she didn't believe me or the fact that I wasn't as innocent as I tried to seem. "Well?" she asked in a voice that almost took my breath away while she raised an eyebrow. "Are you going to tell me?"
Melody's grin grew, and she looked like the Cheshire cat. She was enjoying this; I could tell, and I knew that she wanted me to say something stupid, which I was not going to do.
I shrugged and looked indifferent. "Mel looks like she is hiding something," I said, trying to turn the attention away from me.
Serenity looked at Mel, who barely had time to subdue the Chesire grin into a neutral face. "What are you hiding, Mel?" she asked, and it was my turn to give my sister a Chesire grin.
'Gee, thanks,' Mel said, and I shrugged and kept grinning. She shrugged and cleared her throat while she tried to come up with a plan to save her butt. "So, TJ and I had a conversation about how we would react if we found someone that we were so head over heels for that it wasn't even funny one day," she explained, and my Chesire grin instantly turned into a frown.
'Where are you going with this?' I asked and gave her a weird look. I made sure that my face was blank when Serenity glanced at me before she looked at Mel with a raised eyebrow.
"Ok..?" she asked, and my sister nodded in confirmation.
'Just trust me on this; I got this,' she said, and I had to bite back a snort because I did not want Serenity to know that we were talking with each other via a mind link. "And we had a conversation as to how much of a lovesick pup they'd look when they are in their lover's presence."
'The last time you said those words, I was stuck in a hole in the ground for almost four hours,' I said, 'and it was supposed to be your ass in the ground.' "But it isn't such a bad thing," I said, defending myself, "to look like a lovesick pup around the love of your life."
Melody shot me a grin when Serenity looked away from her and towards me. 'You have to admit, it was pretty funny, though,' she said, and I had to hold back an eye roll because my mate was still staring at me. "No, but you'll have those heart shaped eyes, even though you aren't a cartoon," she replied.
'It wasn't to me,' I replied. 'I was squished in a tiny hole, and I think I had developed claustrophobia because of it.' I had to keep myself from shuddering because that was all I wanted to do; however, I didn't want to let Serenity onto what we were talking about. "Oh, like you won't," I shot back, and she glared.
I swooned and ignored the tightening in my chest from thinking about being stuck in that hole, even though it had been years ago. "I can picture it now," I said with a breathless sigh as if I was so in love with the person.
"Picture what?" Serenity asked, amused while she raised an eyebrow. "How you would react if you met someone that you absolutely loved?"
I shook my head, no. I already knew how I'd react if I found my mate because I had found her, even though I wasn't able to tell her yet and had her to get her to fall in love with me without the help of the bond between us. "I can picture my sister when she meets the love of her life," I said with another happy sigh.
My sister folded her arms across her chest and gave me a pointed look. "Ok, Mr. Genius," she said sarcastically, and I grinned. "How am I going to react when I meet the love of my life?" 'Where are you going with this, Doofus?'
I ignored her second question and clutched my hands together, and swooned, earning a snort from the two females. "You will be head over heels in love with them," I replied.
"Oh really?" she asked and raised an eyebrow. A smile appeared on her face while she waited for me to continue. She knew that I wasn't going to answer where I was going to go with this, so she wasn't going to try and push.
"Yes," I confirmed and nodded. "You will swoon and let out a happy sigh." I sighed happily, and both of them let out a small laugh. "Then, you'll walk over to him and introduce yourself with hearts coming out of your eyes."
"So, you're saying that I will be completely head over heels for him the moment that he walks into my line of sight?" Melody asked and raised an eyebrow while she cocked her head and studied me.
"Yes," I replied and nodded. I placed my hands over my heart and sighed happily, and Melody laughed. "Oh, you'll be so caught into his looks and the way that makes you feel that you'll forget how to breathe."
"And how will you react?" Serenity asked and raised an eyebrow while she placed her hands on her hips. "When you find the love of your life?"
"Oh, I know," Melody said, and we looked at her, waiting for her to tell us how I would react. She gave me a smug look, and I narrowed my eyes at her and scowled.
'Where are you going with this?' I asked, and she grew more smug but didn't respond.
"How is he going to react, Melody?" Serenity asked, oblivious to the look that I was giving my sister.
"Well, my dear brother," she said, ignoring my questioning, and I knew that I was going to have to be patient, even though I didn't want to be. "You will be breathless, and your eyes will grow soft."
I raised an eyebrow but stayed silent while I waited for her to continue.
"You will always look at them with a soft smile on your face. And it's not going to be a normal soft smile." She smirked and cocked her head while she glanced at Serenity before she looked at me.
Mischief filled her eyes, and I narrowed my eyes and scowled. She still didn't tell me where she was going with this, and I was a bit peeved, but still, I didn't push because I knew that she wouldn't tell me.
However, she better not spoil anything, especially when it came time for her to know that Serenity was mine.
"Your smile would be so filled with love while you look at her, and it would only be for her. Your eyes would have these hearts in them, but that isn't what she would notice."
"And what would she notice if she doesn't notice the hearts?" I asked and studied my sister, trying to see where she was going with this.
"She would notice how bright they'd get when she is in your presence. Instead of swooning, you'd dip your head closer to your chest and smile a smile that says, "I love you," even though you wouldn't say it off the bat.
However, everything about you would tell that girl that you are in love with her. You'd make her feel loved and make her feel beautiful. She wouldn't have to question about how much you love her because you'd show her."
"From the beginning?" I asked and raised an eyebrow, and she nodded.
"From the beginning," she confirmed. "If she pays attention to you, then she'll notice that you love her and will continue to love her."
"Forever and always?" I asked, even though I already knew that it was going to be forever and always.
My sister nodded in confirmation. "Forever and always," she promised. "You'll love her forever and always."
