Sit Down
You weren't sure what time you and Nova had ended up getting back to the hotel last night after the lantern festival. Wanting to get off your feet, you had gotten takeout and high tailed it back to your room. You had put on a movie to watch while you ate, and you both passed out about halfway through it.
You awoke to the sound of your phone buzzing obnoxiously on the table beside you. The forgotten device you hadn't picked up in almost twenty-four hours. You were bound to have a few messages, you just hoped none were from your family back home. It'd be just your luck that someone would have tried to contact you on the one day you turned your phone off.
Rolling over on your side, you reached for your phone and pulled it closer to your chest, slithering it under the blanket with you as you let the screen light up your face. You winced, blinking against the harsh light.
As you had expected, a few texts came in from family, but nothing important. Your mother asking if she could pick you and Nova up from the airport. A friend stating that they were excited for you to come back in two days. Your boss telling you that the place was catching fire without you, and a recent message sent this morning. The last one made your lips quirk up in a small smile.
It simply read 'Good morning~' with a picture attached of Jimin's adorably sleepy face. He didn't look like he was even out of bed yet. You returned the morning greeting with a quick reply, going so far as to snap a picture in return, though you shielded your face with your entire hand so all he really saw was the back of your hand, your hair cascading across the pillows and the blankets covering your still tired body. He replied back almost instantly.
Did I wake you up? - Jiminie
No. I just woke up on my own.
Good. Got plans for today? - Jiminie
Depends. Why are you asking?
You bit your lip, already sensing an invitation coming before he could ask.
Well the answer depends on if I'll ask if you'd like to have one last dinner with me tonight. - Jiminie
Hmmmm...
I already know Namjoon made plans with you for tomorrow... He canceled dance practice for it. - Jiminie
He did what?!
Yeah, there was no talking him out of it. I don't even think you could. - Jiminie
Well, now I just feel guilty.
Don't. I would have done the same thing... But I figured since he has you on your last day, maybe you'd be willing to give me your second to last day? - Jiminie
You don't have to sound desperate. Lol.
Are you trying to say you don't want to see me even a little bit~? - Jiminie
Alright. Fine. When and where? And what should I wear?
You could just wear nothing? - Jiminie
Okay, I've changed my mind. I'm not going.
You rolled your eyes, you both knew you were joking. You sighed. Such playful texts, but they were different, somehow, from the ones you sent back and forth between you and Namjoon. You couldn't help but compare the two. Jimin's only response to your sarcasm was a time and an address as well as vague instructions to wear something nice. Damn it. Was he taking you out somewhere fancy again?
You groaned as you set your phone down and popped your head out from under the blankets, just in time to see Nova rolling from her bed as she rubbed at her head.
"Morning." You called out to her with a light yawn.
"Morning." She croaked back as she let her hand flop down back to the bed. She looked around the room before raising her sleep-filled eyes up to you and asking, "Where's my phone?"
"Geez, that's the first thing you think about in the morning?" You teased with a roll of your eyes.
She simply extended her hand out and curled her fingers towards you, silently asking for you to give it back to her.
"It's in the dresser over there, third drawer." You said, pointing across the room.
She made a face and grunted, pushing herself from her bed, irritated at the idea of having to move. She started to head over to the dresser before raising a hand up and changing direction. "On second thought, bathroom first." She muttered as she raced to the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
Pushing the covers from your body, you sat up in your bed. Stretching your arms over your head, your bones creaked and popped satisfyingly. You rolled your neck and stood, padding over to the large window next to Nova's bed. You slid open the giant thick curtain and blinked madly at the blaring sun.
Your eyes adjusted after a minute, and you smiled down at the busy people on the streets below you. Lost in your people watching, you jumped when you heard banging at the door. Right, must be the maid. You turned away from the window and headed over to let her in.
"We need more towels!" You heard Nova yell from the bathroom, clearly she heard the knock as well.
"Yeah, yeah." You called out with a wave of your hand as you passed the bathroom door and reached for the doorknob. The knocks turned into impatient banging. Man, this maid must have zero tolerance for waiting.
You unlocked the deadbolt and started to pull the door open, but you only managed to open it a fraction when it was pushed towards you, nearly knocking you back into the wall. You cursed at the offender as you stumbled backwards. You frowned at the long fingers on the door before meeting a familiar, dark glare.
"Hoseok." You breathed out as the man - normally beaming with sunshine - now looked frantic and irritated. His chest rose and fell with sharp pants and his fists were balled as his sides.
He pushed past you and quickly darted deeper into the room. "Nova!" He called out in panic, quickly coming to an abrupt stop when he noticed the room was empty.
His body whirled around as he looked at you. "Where is she? Did Jungkook come and take her?" Hoseok hissed, his eyes manic and unseeing. Your brows furrowed in confusion, not quite understanding his question. Why would Jungkook come here to take her?
"Okay, first off, you need to calm down." You glared at him as you closed the door behind you. How dare he burst into your hotel room this early in the morning, almost knock you on your ass, and have the nerve to start asking you questions?
"Hobi?" You heard Nova's voice call out uncertainly from the bathroom door that you now stood beside.
"Nova!" Hoseok quickly lunged for the door but you raised a hand, slamming it into the wall just beside the frame to stop him.
"I don't think so. And I said calm down." You repeated, shooting him a stern glare.
Hoseok stopped in his tracks at the arm in his way, his eyes widening at you. Nova deserved some privacy, and you would take him down if you had to.
Raising your free hand, you pointed over toward the single chair in the far corner of the room.
"Sit." You ordered, your tone daring him to disobey you.
"But--"
"Sit!" You commanded again, raising your voice this time.
He took a deep breath before he sighed and turned around, reluctantly moving over to the chair as he took a seat.
He laced his fingers through his hair as he pressed his elbows into his knees and took a few more deep breaths to calm himself. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have barged in like that." Hoseok said, his gaze reverting to one more apologetic.
"That realization came a little late, but thanks.." You said, folding your arms against your chest as you moved to lean yourself against the wall just beside the bathroom door.
"She wouldn't answer her phone. I kept calling, but got nothing." Hoseok explained, the worry radiating from his deep brown eyes. Your gaze softened slightly at the concern in his tone.
"That's because we were busy yesterday. She was out with me." You said as you tilted your head backwards, leaning it on the wall. You understood now why he had been scared. After all, Nova had disappeared from the face of the earth with no word to him telling him what she would be doing. She didn't owe him that, but you could see why it would alarm him. Still, you wouldn't let your guard down around him, you couldn't. Underneath that bright smile and those sweet, caramel eyes was a darkness that had you on high alert.
"Oh..." Hoseok said, moving his hand from his hair to the back of his neck as he rubbed it nervously, clearly feeling foolish for his irrational fear. "I didn't know. I thought . . . I'm sorry."
"Yeah." You said simply, not accepting or rejecting his apology. Your foot still throbbed from when the door ran over it, and you were a grudge holder. You heard the door clicking open behind you as Nova tentatively walked from the bathroom.
Still in her pajamas, her hair was still slightly a mess but her face was clean, freshly washed.
She stepped out from behind you like a meerkat peeking into the room to see if the danger was gone.
"Hobi, what are you doing here?" She said as her head peered over your shoulder.
"Nova, I'm sorry, I had to know you were alright." He rushed his words, perking up in his seat, but the look in your eyes kept him from getting up.
"You didn't need to come all the way here." She frowned, and his relief turned solemn.
"Well how else was I supposed to check up on you when you weren't answering your phone?" Hoseok questioned as his brows dipped, now looking like a saddened puppy. You weren't fooled by his expression, but you almost felt bad for him. Almost.
"Yeah... Sorry about that." Nova as she tightened her lips and offered an apologetic shrug.
Standing up from his seat finally, despite your glare, he straightened out his jacket.
"Anyway... Would you mind if I took Nova off your hands for a little while?" Hoseok asked, looking to you. "If you two have plans, I understand." He added, raising a hand to imply he didn't wish to impose.
You glanced over at Nova who stood just behind you and she looked at you with a raised brow. She wasn't sure if you had made more plans or not, and you knew that if you told her you did, she would stay with you. But you were supposed to be meeting Jimin in a few hours, and from the look in her eyes, she really needed to talk to Hoseok.
"Fine." You said with a sigh as you looked back at him. "I've got plans later anyway." You added with a shrug. Nova eyed you quizzically, but she didn't want to ask in front of Hoseok.
"Uh, can you give me just a bit to get ready, Hobi?" She asked softly, looking down at her night clothes and then back up to him.
"Yeah, of course. I'll wait downstairs." He said, that award winning smile returning to his lips, no trace of the frantic man that had barreled into your room less than ten minutes ago..
"Thanks." Nova smiled timidly before the two of you saw him out the door and shut it behind him.
"You've got plans, huh?" Nova quickly whipped her head back around to you when you were alone. Your cheeks heated under her unrelenting stare.
"Yeah, Jimin asked me this morning if I would go out to dinner with him. Apparently he already knew Namjoon asked me to spend some time tomorrow with him, so he wanted to see me tonight." You said, lightly shrugging your shoulders, trying to play it off like it was no big deal.
"Well, looks like your last two days here will be eventful." Nova said with a sardonic laugh. Not liking the spotlight pointed in your direction, you chuckled and crossed your arms.
"Yeah, I guess I won't be the only one either." You said, raising a brow as you looked to the door Hoseok had just gone through.
Her brows flicked up and she cast her gaze down. "True..."
