All Good Things
You were awakened by the sound of your phone buzzing obnoxiously on the nightstand beside you. The piercing light of the sun was shining through the curtains of your hotel room. A quiet yawn left your lips as you rolled over onto your side, still-tired eyes attempting to find the noisy device as you slapped at the surface of the nightstand before coming into contact with the cold screen.
Since you and Nova both slept better in arctic climates, the air conditioning had been turned to the lowest temperature the second the two of you had arrived here. Perfect for sleeping, but maybe not so great when sticking your bare arms outside the comfort of your warm blankets. You snatched your phone from the table and quickly retreated back into your cocoon of heat. Your heart rated picked up and you grinned at the name that had popped up on your phone's lock screen.
Good morning, beautiful. Mind if I pick you up around noon? - Namjoon
You were happy to see his text, and it made you grin like a lovesick dweeb, but it also brought with it the reminder that you would be leaving tomorrow. You were going home and you had no idea what that meant. Would you and Namjoon continue whatever it was you had going between the two of you? Would you cop it up to a vacation fling and move on with your lives? After all, he was an idol and constantly in the public eye and you were - well, you. So much had happened over the course of the last two weeks that it was hard to imagine simply letting your time spent here be nothing more than an amazing overseas trip. But you didn't need to think about that right now. Best to just enjoy the time you still had with him. You glanced at the time on your phone, just a little after 9 a.m., that should be enough time to get ready right?
Sure. What should I wear? You sent back before setting your phone down on the mattress as you rolled your tired body to sit up on your bed. You could still feel the faint throbbing in your feet from those damned heels last night. Note to self: stop forgetting that heels are not friends.
In the bed adjacent to yours, Nova was bundled up like a newborn baby. The only thing you could see was her head as she was wrapped tight in blankets from neck to toes. You snickered to yourself and shook your head. You winced as you stood, the carpeted floor doing little to soothe the ache in your soles. You padded to the bathroom and hissed at the unforgiving chill of the tiles. You switched on the light and grimaced at the bright vanity bulbs that did absolute wonders for the pounding in your head. You must have had more wine than you'd realized last night.
Your eyes were bloodshot and there were dark circles under them. You ran your hands over your face a few times before splashing some water onto it. Brushing your teeth and hair, you pinched your cheeks to put some color back into your features so that you looked a little less like a zombie. A few minutes later, you picked your phone up, the LED on the top blinking at you insistently.
We'll be outside for most of the day. Just wear whatever you want, I'm sure you'll look stunning no matter what you choose. - Namjoon
So a full blown fur suit is cool? You sent back jokingly.
Sure. You want me to start calling you 'Kitten'? He sent back lightning fast, causing you to laugh nervously under your breath as your face heated.
Down boy... I'll see you in a few hours. You sent back before tossing your phone back onto the bed. Enough distractions, he was going to make you late.
Having checked the temperature outside, you were happy to find that it was warm this morning so you decided on something that wouldn't give you heat stroke. A pair of tattered and ripped acid washed jeans that stopped just below your knees and one of your white band shirts. A bracelet here and a ring there, light accessories.
Straightening your hair you were ready just before 11. Stepping out of the bathroom you looked over to see Nova had finally rolled out of bed and was sitting on her bed hugging a cup of coffee with both of her hands, still looking for the most part to be dead to the world around her. Her hair was a nest of tangles bunched up on the crown of her head and her oversized night shirt was hanging off of one shoulder. Your nose crinkled. Even in her disheveled state, she looked fucking flawless. Ugh.
"Geez, what did you do last night? You look like shit." You leaned over to grab your bag from where it rested on the arm chair by your bed.
"Damn. Here I was thinking I had woken up photo shoot ready. Back to the drawing board."
"If it's a Halloween shoot, you've nailed it to the 'T'.
Nova just groaned, bringing the cup of coffee back to her lips to drown out your voice in the caffeine. She had yet to answer your question regarding her whereabouts from the night before. "She's got jokes. Where are you going?" Her voice was raspy and weak.
"Namjoon asked me to spend my last day in Korea with him..." You said, feeling slightly guilty that you weren't going to be spending this precious time with your best friend. "But, if you want to do something, I can cancel." You knew Nova wasn't upset at how much of your vacation had been spent with Namjoon - and Jimin - especially since she had been more than occupied with Hoseok, but she tended to put her wants and needs after yours and you wanted to make sure she knew she was still your top priority.
She removed a hand from her mug and waved it in the air dismissively. "Don't be stupid." She muttered. "I'll be fine. Plus, I've already got plans."
"Really? With who?" You already knew the answer, but you liked teasing her.
She opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by the sound of your phone ringing. You dug it out of your back pocket and raised it to see the picture you had taken at that cafe so many nights ago flashing on the screen. "One sec." You held up a finger in a we'll-continue-this-in-a-minute way and answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you ready?" Namjoon's deep voice greeted you from the other end. Why did it feel like you hadn't heard his voice in weeks? This place was really distorting your concept of time.
"Almost." You answered back as you glanced over to your friend.
"Well, I'm out front. Just come down whenever you're ready." He wasn't irritated in the slightest that you weren't ready yet, and it was very refreshing, a nice change from what you were used to.
"Okay. I'll be down in just a minute." You smiled, you couldn't help it. Just hearing him speak sent your heart racing.
Nova was looking at you with an amused eyebrow raised from her bed. Grinning, she waved you away. "Hurry up and go. You don't want to keep him waiting."
"But--" You started to object, you still wanted to know her plans for the day.
"Go! Just have fun!" She insisted. She stood and put her coffee on the table. Walking towards you, she waved her arms to shoo you out of the room.
"Fine. Text me then, okay?"
"Will do, will do. Now go." She pointed her finger at the door in warning.
You slung your bag strap over your shoulder, sliding your phone into one of its pockets and opening the door. You walked briskly to the elevator, bunching up the hem of your shirt in your fingers, a nervous habit you'd had for years. Tiny wings were flitting around in your stomach, in a good way.
Rushing out of the lobby of your hotel, you saw a car parked just outside the doors. Gripping your bag and pulling it further up your shoulder you approached the car cautiously. There were no other cars around, and as your drew closer, the passenger window rolled down to reveal a very attractive set of dimples. Your heart galloped.
"Hey." Namjoon greeted you with a dazzling smile that revealed his perfect white teeth. His beautiful brown eyes were shielded by a pair of designer sunglasses, which he pulled down so that he could see you better. My god, was he a sight to behold. He was in casual clothes, nothing too flashy, but he still looked like something out of a movie.
"Hey!" You said, returning his smile as you grabbed the handle of the car door and pulled it open to let yourself inside.
"I didn't arrive too early did I?" He asked as you climbed into your seat.
"No, not at all." You said shaking your head. "I was already ready, I was just talking with Nova when you called."
"Oh, well I hope I didn't interrupt anything important." His eyebrow dipped in concern, ever the thoughtful gentleman.
You shook your head again, your hair lightly swayed against your face as you reassured him. "So, where are we going?" You turned to face him as you clicked your seat belt into place.
"Don't like surprises?" Namjoon smirked as he looked at you from the driver's seat before placing a hand on the wheel while the other shifted the car into drive.
You smothered a grin with pursed lips. "They're not really my thing."
Chuckling under his breath he brought his right hand over towards you and placed it on your knee. "Oh? Prey tell, what is your thing?" You gulped, your eyes glued to his hand, the veins on his wrist pronounced. When you didn't answer, he gave your leg a gentle squeeze. "Just trust me, okay?" His voice drew your attention back to his eyes before he pushed his shades back up to shield them from the light.
"Fine." You said in attempts to not show the effect that he had on you. Your mind lingered still on the question he had just asked you. Your thing was quickly becoming a tall Korean god with legs for days that you wouldn't mind climb-
Your dirty thoughts were interrupted by Namjoon holding a cord in front of your face. "Why don't you play us some music that YOU like?"
Smiling, you took the cord from his hands and hooked it up to your phone. It took a few minutes but you found your favorite playlist and let it play. The smooth, heavenly voice of Sam Smith filled the car, relaxing you instantly.
You were sure a man in the music industry probably heard his fair share of music in his time, and had probably met plenty of artists over the years. Still, he seemed intent on listening to your style of music, wanting to know what types of sounds made you happy or evoked a feeling. It was endearing. You were surprised when he started singing along to most of the songs, and you beamed over at him and joined in.
You had an infatuation with the emotions that music was able to provide, and you could see that Namjoon was trying to explore that side of you more deeply. The concert the two of you had put on had been going for nearly an hour when one of your favorite songs started to play. You glanced over at the man next to you, seeing a calming smile spread across Namjoon's lips. Sam sang a heartfelt apology, urging his lover to understand that the love he held for him was still very present, but it had been extinguished and was something he needed to let go of. This artist spoke to your soul, saying things with his music that just couldn't be said with words, hence the reason why he was your permanent obsession.
You waited for Namjoon to start criticizing your music choice, but he did no such thing. He listened without judgement, doubt, or disgust. This simple action, him immersing himself in the songs you loved so much . . . It sparked a feeling in your chest, and a warm sensation washed through you like the calming cascade of water from a shower after spending hours in the cold.
Biting down on your lip, you cast your gaze away, bringing your eyes back to the road ahead as Namjoon rubbed circles into the exposed skin of your leg through the hole in your jeans. You had no idea where he was taking you, but you no longer cared.
