7. sunset
~Elliot~
After we walk out of the karaoke box, Faith tells me and Maya to wait outside for a bit. Maya sways and bobs, still not accustomed to the daylight after the red lights and multiple cans of beer. I grab her arm to steady her and we stand there for a minute in silence.
Maya turns her face towards me and loudly whispers, "you and Faith are LIDERALLY perfect. Like, LIDERALLY soulmates. I hope you get weddinged. No. What's that word? Shaadi? Wrong language, wait. MARRIED. I MEANT MARRIED."
I roll my eyes and Maya giggles. How is she this drunk? Faith comes back skipping, with a basket in her hand.
She closes the distance between us, and breathlessly mutters, "C'mon you two, follow me."
She walks two steps in front of us, walking about 100 metres until we reach the Amber Valley Community Park. She leads us to a spot amidst huge trees, and the sunset is perfectly visible from there, between mountains. She pulls out a blanket from her bag and sets some sandwiches, pastries, crisps and cranberry juice bottles on it. She gestures us to sit. I sit cross legged, and the girls place their heads on my lap, both facing the sunset.
We eat and chat, sobering up. Faith pulls out her camera and takes pictures of the scenery. She takes pictures of me, then Maya. While she isn't looking, I grab her camera and take a picture of her laughing. The three of us take pictures together in our matching outfits.
We gobble up the crisps, mumbling about the news with our mouths full. We chat about irrelevant things until the sun sets, then Faith motions that we should go home. She drops Maya off, then she drives us to our homes.
Faith remarks, "Today was fun."
"Yeah, it was. You're nice to be around. So is Maya. I hope we get to do something like this again."
"For sure."
We then part ways, she heads to her house, while I go to mine.
I think I need to ask Faith out.
