Chapter 20: Finale
Before the final chapter begins I just wanna say a few things. Since I won't be saying anything at the end. I just wanna say thank you for all the reads and giving me some inspiration. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do things in this book that I wanted to do because I didn't want to confuse you all. Unfortunately Giovanni will not be making a final appearance. But I truly am sorry for maybe making much character development. And though I did rush it a bit, hopefully you were able to have some laughs while reading this! Oh well, let's just get on to the final chapter!
Serena groaned as she got out of bed. It was summer vacation, yet someone was calling her at eight in the morning.
She looked at her phone, it was Mallow.
"Oi?" Serena answered.
"Hey Serena, we're meeting in the park! Everyone's gonna be there!" Mallow answered back.
"Huh? Who's everyone?" Serena asked.
"What time?" Serena managed to stammer.
"Ten!" Mallow said, "You better not be late!" She yelled before hanging up the phone.
"What?! You woke me up at 8 to tell me something is going to happen at 10! You IDIOT!" Serena screeched, even though there was no point considering that she hung up already.
She groaned again before falling back asleep.
Another thirty more minutes passed and she felt her phone ring again.
Without looking at the contact she hit answer.
"YES?!" She growled.
The person on the other side of the call covered their ears.
"Yo," It was Ash!
"Oh," Serena laughed. "I thought you were Mallow for a second."
"Yeah Mallow wanted to call you, but her phone is low on battery."
"Ah I see." Serena nodded.
"Where are you anyways?" Ash asked.
"At home, like anybody should at 8:30 on summer break should be." Serena said rolling her eyes.
"Uh, Serena, it's not 8:30, it's 10:30..." Ash said cautiously and prepared to cover his ears.
"WHAT!?!?" Serena yelled. She looked over at her alarm clock. It said 8:32, she looked at her phone, 10:32. She hung up real quickly and dashed off towards the park."
"What'd I miss?" Serena panted as she reached the park.
"Your late, so we had to wait for Ash to tell us his announcement." Dawn said.
"Sorry!" Serena bowed.
"Anyways, Ash what did you want to tell us?" Lillie asked.
"I gave it a lot of thought and I decided to study abroad and not here in Japan." Ash stated. "I want to be a teacher and help others in anyway I can. It was a little hard for me to decide, but in the end I think this is what would be the best for me right now."
"Wait, your leaving Japan again?" May asked.
"Yeah,"
"How long will you be gone?" Misty asked.
"I don't know, it could be a while." Ash said.
"You better text us everyday!" Mallow said.
"When do you leave?" Iris asked.
Ash took a breath.
"Tomorrow..."
The next day came and everyone was at the airport.
"You better not forget about us!" Mallow said with tears in her eyes.
"I won't Mallow, thanks for being such a great friend." Ash smiled.
"Ash, you better be the best teacher ever!" May said smiling.
"Oh don't worry I will." Ash said confidently.
"Ash make sure to send us gifts from abroad!" Dawn said cheerfully.
"Yeah I got you!" He smiled.
One by one he went through all of his friends from the S-Class.
Lastly, he was face to face with Serena.
"Hey Serena..." He started.
"Hi, Ash." She said without looking at him.
Ash looked concerned. He knelt down so she was staring down at him.
"Serena it's okay, I'm gonna be fine. You just make sure to stay out of trouble and wait for me, I promise I'll be back." He said carefully with tears in his eyes.
"Oh, Ash." Serena cried as Ash embraced her in a hug. "Promise you'll come back for me!"
"Only if you wait for me." Ash smiled. As Serena playfully punched his arm.
"You know I will!" She said wiping away the tears. "Now you better get going before you miss your flight!"
"Kay! I'll miss you all!" He said before heading off.
"Wait!" Serena yelled. Ash turned around only to see that Serena was right there.
She grabbed his shirt, stepped on her tip toes and kissed him.
They smiled at each other.
"Remember me 'kay?" Serena said.
"Don't worry I always will." Ash smiled back.
Five minutes later he was gone.
The girls headed out of the airport.
"He's really gone," Serena stated.
"Don't look so glum Serena, he promised he would come back right?" Mallow said.
"Yeah, but until then I'm just gonna have to study real hard!" Serena smiled.
"That's the spirit!" Mallow said.
After the summer was over, they all had to say goodbye.
"I'm gonna miss you all," Serena said.
"When we all graduate again let's meet up again!" Mallow said.
And the rest of the girls agreed.
Time skip (everyone is now 24)
A now full grown adult Serena, is rushing to go back to the old town that she lived in.
It had been six years since she had seen Mallow and the girls.
They kept in touch everyday with each other.
With Ash, it was a different story. Due to the different time zones whenever Ash was awake, Serena was asleep.
They tried for a while, but in the end they talked less and less.
Still Serena kept hope as she headed over to her old high school. The place where Mallow said they would all meet.
She saw all of them out in the school yard hugging each other.
"Serena!" they all called.
Serena ran and hugged everyone there. It was definitely worth the wait, seeing how everyone changed.
Tears of joy came from everyone as they reunited as a group once again.
"So how are you and Ash?" Mallow said.
"We haven't been able to talk much." Serena admitted.
"When was the last time you two talked?" Misty asked.
"I think it's been over 5 months now." Serena said.
"Are you still going to wait for him?" May asked.
"Well, he told me he promised to come back so that's what I live by everyday now."
They all nodded their heads. But still, it had been 6 years, how long could Serena stand waiting?
Serena excused herself from the group as she needed to use the bathroom. She walked into the high school building and she walked by the spot where Ash and her first encountered.
She walked by the window.
"Maybe I am waiting too long." Serena said to herself.
"Yeah you are." great, now her head was tricking her. She was hearing Ash's voice.
She shook her head as she was about to head back downstairs when a hand grabbed her shoulder.
"Why keep waiting when I'm already here?" said a familiar raven-haired boy.
"W-what?" she turned around and saw Ash Ketchum in the flesh standing in front of her.
"It's been a while, Serena." He smiled.
Serena started tearing up. "B-but how?" she wondered.
"Ay, don't look too shocked, I told you I would come back." He smiled.
Serena started crying, happy tears. "You idiot, you scared me there."
"Nah, you were the idiot for not believing in me." Ash said teasingly.
"I'm glad you made me change my mind." Serena smiled.
Ash embraced her in a hug.
"Now how about we surprise Mallow and them huh?" Ash smiled deviously.
"Or maybe for once just come out regularly." Serena laughed.
"Nah, I like my way better."
"Fine," Serena agreed as she went back to where the rest were.
"I'ma be hiding behind that tree!" Ash called to her.
Serena met up with them all.
"Hey guys, let's head over there, the sun's getting pretty hot." Serena said pointing to the grove of trees Ash was hiding in.
"Yeah, we don't want the food to spoil." Mallow said thoughtfully.
They settled in the grass by the trees.
"So Serena, no luck with Ash huh?" Lana said.
"Yeah, but I heard his voice today, I think I'm just hallucinating." Serena answered.
"Girls are so weird." a voice called out behind them.
"Like right there, I just heard his voice." Serena said.
"Um, I heard that voice too."
"Yeah I heard it!" The rest chimed in.
"Then the only explanation is..." And Ash reappeared from behind the tree.
"I'm actually here..." Ash smiled.
"Ash!" They all said shocked.
"Don't look so surprised I told you all I'd be back." He smiled.
At that point the rest of the afternoon was just talk and laughter.
As the rest of the girls cleaned up, Serena and Ash walked away from the group.
"Hey Serena," Ash started.
"Yeah?" Serena said.
"T-thanks, for waiting for me."
Serena smiled. "Well true love does include a lot of waiting in it."
"I know, and thank you for that." Ash said as he hugged her. Causing Serena to smile.
Sometimes you just need to be with someone that makes you smile, even if it means waiting.
And at that point, Serena believed that it was true.
The End
