40 - Last Chapter (For Now!)
During their trip home, the small group decided to travel to Korea first, so that Youn could look for his uncle and finally tell him everything that had been on his mind since childhood. And Youn was very grateful for their decision.
After weeks of sailing, they finally reached their destination. But it could not come to a discussion with Youn's uncle. Youn learned that his uncle died of blood poisoning a year after Youn was kidnapped and sold as a slave. He contracted a big flesh wound when he was in the forest with some woodcutters to chop wood for the winter. He injured himself when he fell over a large tree root and the branch of a tree dug into his upper arm, almost tearing it off. The very next day the wound was infected and he developed a high fever. No matter what they did, the fever wouldn't go down and the wound got much worse. A doctor finally had to amputate his arm. But it did not help. It was already too late. The blood poisoning was already in his whole body and so he died only 5 days after this accident. His last words are said to have been that he was sorry that he had kicked Youn out the door. His wife married another man only three months later.
Of course, Youn was disappointed because he could not tell his uncle what he had to tell him. So almost the trip was all for nothing. But only almost. Because something happened that Youn had least expected. He finally met the person who was meant for him. Wooseok! It was love at first sight for both of them. And without long thinking, he accompanied Youn and the others when they started their journey home to China.
Slowly, everything fell into place. Youn had found his soul mate. And after their arrival in China, Lan Zhan bought the slave girl of the foreign businessman in the village with whom Ali had been in love for so long. The two also became a couple and even married. Wen Rouhan gave them a house in the village, where after only a year of marriage, they had their first child.
Wen Rouhan married Yanara and took her to live with him and his sons. They were absolutely thrilled by the beauty of their new stepmother. But she was not only the incredibly beautiful wife of Rouhan. And also not only the stepmother. But led with Rouhan the men, who were still faithful to him.
Only two years after their marriage, Yanara accompanied her husband Rouhan, her stepsons and the men across the country. They fought side by side against enemy vampires in many battles, winning them all. And when they could no longer find a fight there, they went on trips and to other lands where they went on adventures and helped young vampires find a way other than killing humans.
Youn and Wooseok also moved into a house in the village. While Youn helped to develop the village and make it a city, Wooseok taught the children in the village how to read, write and calculate. And although everyone in the village knew what kind of relationship the two of them had, no one ever spoke a bad word about them. Because they were part of their community and they all stuck together.
Four years after they moved to the village, the two even adopted a little girl who came from Korea as a slave and managed to escape from the slave traders. It was rumored in the village that two handsome men raided the slave traders' camp and freed all the slaves. Youn knew exactly who the two handsome men were. But he kept that to himself. Only Wooseok, Ali and his wife knew it too. And none of them would have ever betrayed Lan Zhan and Wei Ying!
Every few weeks, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying received letters from Lan Zhan's brother and his life partner. The two went around the world fighting vampires and stayed for a long time in Transylvania, where they found a boy whose parents had been killed by vampires and who wanted revenge. They took the boy Van Helsing and trained him to fight against the vampires and werewolves.
In addition, the two found out that in this world there were many more strange and dangerous creatures that were a threat to humans. They learned how to fight them and eventually even joined an religious order whose mission is to hunt down and destroy all the evil creatures of this world.
Wei Ying's brother Essam focused entirely on alchemy, which he also taught Yanli and Cheng. Only after more than 15 years did the two siblings move on. Yanli married a clan leader and Cheng traveled the world until, while visiting Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, he met and fell in love with the beautiful Wen Qing. He founded his own clan with her in Yunmeng. This clan quickly became large and very well known for its good fighters.
Cheng took it upon himself as the leader of his clan to train the men and women of his clan. Be it sword fighting or archery. He taught them everything and trained them to be the best. While his wife, an excellent, popular and everywhere known doctor, trained young women in medicine. There were also men who were eager to learn from her, but she always refused all requests for men's medical training, except for her little brother.
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying spent most of their time over many years, in their small house near the village, watching the village become first a small town and then a large city. And only when more and more houses were built near their house did they decide to leave the town soon.
They moved further away from the city and lived in a small house in the forest. Youn and Ali visited them regularly. Ali's wife was afraid of the two immortals who did not age and rarely came to see them. Their two children, however, were with Lan Zhan and Wei Ying almost every day. Wooseok, who also found it creepy that the two did not age, accompanied Youn at least once a week and visited them.
But like all people, Youn, Ali and their families had a limited lifespan. They grew older and older, their bodies more frail, and eventually Ali's wife died at the age of 67 after suffering a severe bout of bronchitis that weakened her heart. Then, just three years later, Ali died in the arms of Lan Zhan and Wei Ying. At the age of 85, Wooseok died and took Youn to him two years later.
The death of Ali and Youn really hit Lan Zhan and Wei Ying hard. Lan Zhan's grief was so great that he withdrew for several months. But he grieved more that he could not grow older and die too. But then Wei Ying made him realize that all the people Lan Zhan cared so much about could never have grown old if it hadn't been for him.
"Only because you didn't die that night and become a vampire were you able to save all those people like Youn and Ali. Only because of you were they able to live a long and comfortable life." Wei Ying had told him. And from then on, Lan Zhan's grief lessened with each passing day, and finally he was even glad that he had been able to give them such a long life as a vampire. And then there were Ali's sons, who became fathers themselves years ago. And the adopted daughter of Youn and Wooseok, who also has two children. They would never have existed without Lan Zhan.
When autumn finally rolled in, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying left their home in the forest and set out on their journey once again. They were interested to see how much the land had changed over the many years that had passed. As they watched the small village become a big city, they were eager to know how the other villages and cities in the country were doing and how they had grown.
And after two years, when they had traveled all over the country, they continued their journey across the sea and to other countries. They saw how nations were created by wiping out other nations for it. Disgusted by all the hatred, wars and killing, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying retreated.
But the two did not go back to their house in the forest. They needed distance from the people. A time out from everything. And so they did something that was always unthinkable for them, but now was exactly what they needed. They went to the underworld and lived with Wei Ying's father in the castle. This was crazy and at the same time just the right thing for the two of them who just wanted to have their peace.
