John's POV

I woke up that morning and Alex was gone. I look at the time and remember he has early classes this morning. I go an get ready for the day and go out and get some coffee.

Later that day

I was walking around campus after class when I hear yelling. I turn the corner only to see Alex and Lee arguing. They yell very loudly. Some of the things Lee called him didn't make sense. He called him a 'tranny'. That's a slur for someone who's transgender.

Suddenly Lee hits Alex to the ground and starts kicking him. Before this can go any farther I run in.

Alex's POV

"Your a freak of nature!" Lee screams, "you don't belong here! Your a tranny and a faggot and a bastard orphan son of a whore!"

"S-stop!" I say trying to hold back tears.

"No!" He says before he punches me in the stomach.

I fall to the ground and he starts kicking me in the stomach with his heavy boots. Out of the corner of my eye I see John running toward us. He pushes Lee away from me and I try to get up. I can't, the pain in my side is to much.

"Alex?!" Is all I hear before I blackout.

Later

I wake up in a hospital bed, all my friends and my boyfriend standing around me.

"Oh god, he's awake!" Exclaims Aspen walking to the side of the bed next to John. John looks up at me, his eyes tired.

"Alex!" His face lights up when our eyes meet.

"H-he-" I stop talking and groan. It really hurts to talk, like really hurts.

"Hey, hey, it's ok," John says in a soothing voice. "Your ribs from last time you where beat up by Lee weren't completely healed and you have three more broken now."

I sigh, "hey, it could be worse." Says Thomas sitting next to Angie, "he could have broken something else."

This comment causes everyone, even my to laugh. I look over at John, "lay with me?" I ask.

"I don't know, Alex," he says, "I don't wanna hurt you."

"Please?" I ask.

"Ok," he says. I scoot over and he crawls into the bed.

Later

It is slowly getting later. Herc goes and looks at my chart, "Hey Alex? How tall are you?" He asks.

"5,6, why?" I answer.

"Cause it says hear your 5,4." He says, everyone laughs.

"Wow, I knew you were short, just not that short," Laughs James (Madison.)

"I'm a whole foot taller then you, Lex." John says.

"Yeah, yeah, I got it I'm short." I say.

"It also says," Herc stops himself and I already know what it says. I give him a pleading look and he nods, "nevermind."

No one questions it.

Just then a nurse pops her head in, "visiting hours are up unless you are staying the night it's time for you to leave."

Everyone but John, Aspen, and Peggy leave. We talk for a little longer before we fall asleep. I cuddle into John's arms.
