"Hey what time is it?" "Nine in the afternoon." "... No."
"Ok ok, so what are we gonna do?!" Adam questioned. He was just as desperate as Shiro was.
Shiro was pacing the room. His memories were still very foggy from the past, but memories would bubble up now and then. At this point, he was about to be driven insane. Pidge hid behind her computer screen, trying to pinpoint the boy's exact location.
"God, I don't know! I- I barely got out of there alive! I can't imagine the boys.." Shiro exclaimed worridly. He grabbed his arm and sighed.
The sudden feeling of flesh against his metal arm brought back a memory.
"Takashi!" Adam yelled from across the room.
Shiro looked up and smiled at his co-pilot. He paused his conversation with some scientist and began his walk over to Adam.
"Err, Shiro? Shiro Kogane?" a gruff voice called out into the lunch room.
The pilot turned around and went wide-eyed. Standing in the doorway was the Secretary of Defense, Zarkon. Usually, Shiro would be confused as to who the guy in the army suit was, but seeing as Zarkon was one of his college friends Dad, oh he knew.
"Mr. Zarko- I mean, Sir! What are you doing here?" Shiro quizzed, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"I'm here to bring you a proposition." the tall man smiled.
Shiro and Zarkon were brought into a room sealed from the outside world to avoid spying of any sorts. Zarkon proposed a deal. Shiro works for Zarkon on a mission in space, for science and the defense of America, and he would make sure Keith wasn't taken away by the state.
It didn't take a lot to get Shiro to jump in on the deal. At that very moment, he was in a custody battle with the state over Keith. Shiro was very young, just shy of 18. Keith was only ten, and the state was wary over leaving the young prodigies along with each other after the death of their father. The older Kogane refused to let Keith out of his sight, and so the contract was signed and from then on Shiro worked for the army.
Zarkon then had Keith and Shiro "adopted" by the Holts. While Keith grew up extending his genius brain with his new sister Pidge, Matt, Samuel, and Shiro began to work together with Zarkon on a new mission into space. It was very classified and took a lot of time from them. Then it happened.
About 6 years later it was time. The first venture to collect whatever the hell it was Zarkon wanted from space was a success. But Shiro was gone for over 2 years in that process. By the time he got back, Keith was grown, was working on not one but two bachelors degrees, and was now a big boy. Communication between the Phoenix crew and the Holts/Kogane declined bit by bit. The Phoenix craft was then lifted off several more times until Shiro wanted to back out. His little brother was now 19 and he was missing out.
This is where the memory got blurry. He was explaining to Keith that he was on his last mission before coming home. Keith was happy and was telling Shiro about how he wanted to become some sort of Profiler or something along the lines of medic and law enforcement. But after the Phoenix took off one stary night, something went wrong and they went missing. From that day on he never saw the Holts again.
"Pidge, what happened to the last Phoenix launch?" Shiro suddenly asked. He had a strong hunch.
"Oh well, it was said to have gone missing. When mom heard she.. She went berserk." It was clear Pidge didn't like this situation at all. She was reliving the memories again, the very old ones.
"Ok, but where? Did they not give any specifics?"
Pidge began to catch a bit of Shiro's drift.
"You want me to take a peek at NASA's data about the Phoenix 10 launch don't you?" she smirked.
"I'm sure you've already done it, but there is more they're hiding. They managed to get a whole spacecraft and 3 pilots to go missing. We might wanna find out how."
"Hey, Lance?" Keith sighed, stroking Leroy who was curled up in his lap.
"Yeah?" Lance replied softly.
"What do you think they'll do to us?"
"I was just about to ask you the same thing."
The two boys found themselves in glass balls that seemed sealed into the ground. They could see above and below them, even around them, but despite the fragile appearance, the ball was reinforced by something.
"What time do you think it is?" Lance asked after a few minutes.
"Nine in the afternoon." Keith blurted out.
Lance slowly turned to his boyfriend. Keith looked up and met Lance's blue eyes.
"... No."
"Whaaattt, usually you lighten up the mood but you haven't even tried so I made an attempt," Keith confessed.
"Yeah well if you haven't realized we've been kidnapped and are stuck in some Area 51 horror movie." Lance hissed.
Keith sighed and began to cough into his sleeve. Blood came up, but he remained quiet. Lance noticed stains on Keith's jacket and grew concerned.
"Is that blood?" he questioned, narrowing his eyes at his boyfriend.
Keith nodded.
"Oh shit, oh shit. We totally forgot about your medicine Keith, you still need to take those for what? Another month? Oh god, you better not die in here." Lance began to worry.
Keith chuckled and shook his head.
"Lance, babe.. What do you think we're here to do? Live? Come out as nothing happened? If this is anything like what I've researched... Then the only way we're coming out of this place is either in a coffin or we don't come out at all."
The tone Keith said that in as if he had already settled on his fate, made goosebumps rise on Lance's skin. Keith was one to not give up in a situation like such. Of course, sometimes he wouldn't face his problems head-on, but he had things to live for. SO seeing him be settled on proceeding with whatever the hell they were going to do only terrified Lance.
"You really gave up already?" Lance whispered worriedly.
Keith looked back down at Leroy and sighed.
"Either Pidge finds something we haven't found out in two years of searching for Shiro or we suffer. Either way, we have to wait and.. And I'm terrified. At this point, we have to accept what's going to happen and brace ourselves for the impact."
"And what is going to happen?"
Keith went silent.
"Have you seen Shiro? HIs PTSD kicks in and he suddenly isn't my brother anymore. He told me that our life signs aren't what we think they are and... And I'm afraid of what they actually mean. Because who knows... One of us might end up with a metal arm. And I can't imagine what Dad- I mean Samuel and Matt have gone through.. If they're still alive."
Keith had a point. Lance sighed and hid his head between his knees. God he hoped Pidge found something new.
