Gawsten: I Miss You
Summary: After having their kid, Geoff comes up with a plan with Awsten.
(Awsten)
"Shh," Geoff shushes Rory and gives me a look. "I have no idea why she's still crying, I've been trying to get her to stop for hours."
"It's only been five minutes," I point out. He groans and shushes her again. I stand up and hold my arms up. "Let me," I say. He gives me a sideways look before gently handing Rory to me. Rory stares at me with her big eyes. "I know we only just met, so why do I feel invested. Do you feel it too? Do you feel it too?" I sing softly.
Rory smiles at me and makes a cute noise. Geoff smiles at me. "Aws, I love you," he sighs and stands behind me. He wraps his arms around both of us.
We had adopted Rory from Geoff's friend Chloe. Chloe didn't want the baby, and Geoff and I got married, so it worked out.
He kisses my neck and rests his chin on my shoulder. Rory makes another noise and I laugh. "Okay, time to sleep now," I say. Geoff lifts his chin off me before I place Rory in her crib.
Geoff and I slowly walk out of her room. "How are you such a good dad?" He asks. I roll my eyes and grin at him. He mirrors the grin before picking me up.
"Geoff!" I squeak. I laugh as he carries me into the bedroom. He sets me down on the bed and straddles my hips. "Oh, I see how it is," I mumble. He laughs and kisses my jaw. "Geoff- Rory-" I groan. He stops and breathes softly against my skin.
"Awsten, we got the soundproof thing, remember?" He says.
Oh right. A friend recommended a soundproof thing. It would make it so we could yell in this room, and no one would hear. Of course, we can still everything as if it were normal.
"Yeah, still. I don't know if it works," I shrug. He nods and moves off me.
"Hey, turn onto your stomach," he says. I give him a look, but do it anyway. He turns and presses his palms against my back. I let out a soft groan.
"I didn't know you had a talent in massaging," I groan out as he does it again. He just laughs before stopping.
"I thought my little bean would want a gift for being so good with Rory today," he smiles cheekily. I turn to lay on my back. I stare at him as he lays down next to me.
"Did you just call me a bean?" I ask. He smacks my shoulder and I yelp. "Geoff! That's abusing the bean!"
He rolls his eyes and kisses my cheek. "Is it better now?" He asks softly.
I shrug and cup his cheek with one hand. His arm snakes around my waist as we pull each other closer.
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you," I whisper out.
He pulls me into a gentle kiss. His arm around me tightens.
"Hey, Aws? I want to spend the rest of my life with you too. I want to get super old with you. We'll be in our rocking chairs, watching the sunset from our porch."
I can't help but laugh softly to that. "Seems like you have our future planned out." He lays on his back and I rest my head on his chest. His free hand gently strokes my hair. "I like that future. Rory will be happy, living her own life when we're old and wrinkly. She'll show up on holidays with her kids- unless she doesn't want any- and we'll be together."
He kisses the top of my head. "I love you so much Aws."
"I love you more."
"That's not possible."
"Shh, let me enjoy this," I whisper and close my eyes.
(40 years later)
"See, Geoff? We were supposed to watch the sunset," I whisper. Rory walks over to me, holding hands with her wife. "But it's okay. You better watch it with me anyway."
"Dad," Rory sighs and places her hand on my shoulder. "C'mon, it's time to go home."
"It isn't home without Geoff," I snap. She sighs and her wife walks away to start the car. "Rory, you get it, don't know?"
"Dad, please. Don't make this more difficult than it has to."
"He shouldn't have gotten sick. It should have been me for god's sake," I croak. She shakes her head.
"No. Don't say that dad," she sighs again and pulls me into a tight hug. "He's gone, but it's okay. He's still with us."
"That's what they say in the movies. Geoff is gone for good, and he isn't watching us. He isn't around. He's just gone."
"Dad, stop," she says. I look at her and realize the tears in her eyes.
"Oh, Rory. I'm sorry," I say. She gives me a light smile. "Okay... Let's go."
She nods and leads me to the car. She helps me into the seat and I stare out the window as we leave the cemetery.
He passed a few months ago.
My eyes stare at the headstone until I can't. I miss him. We were supposed to watch the sunset together.
"I know we only just met, so why do I feel invested. Do you feel it too? Do you feel it too?" Rory sings softly from the passenger seat.
I smile and look over at her. "I sang that to you as a baby to get you to stop crying."
"I know, you and dad told me that many time," she laughs. "And then I went and sang it to Geoff," she turns to look at me.
She named her child Geoff Jr.
We found out Geoff was sick years ago. When Rory had the kid, she named it after him, just so his name could live on.
"I miss him Rory," I sigh.
"I know dad. I miss him too."
