Out of Millions

A/N

Hey guys! New chappie! I know you guys probably want to get reading so.... yeah! That's all!

(Recap...)

"Whenever you're ready," He whispered. Sophie closed the gap and touched her lips to his. But they were interrupted after a second when something hard hit Sophie in the back. She yelped in pain as she twisted out of Keefe's touch.

Light began to change and dance around the two. And then something odd happened. Sophie's leggings and shirt morphed into an old, worn, dress that looked like peasant attire from a fairytale while Keefe's clothing changed into princely velvets.

Just before the light completely enveloped them, Sophie saw what had hit her in the back: a book. On the cover was a girl in a dazzling ballgown. She recognized it as a book she had read recently about a prince falling in love with a peasant girl in a dystopian society.

It was called The Selection. And as Sophie realized what had happened from the glow of teal eyes, all she could do was whisper, "Uh Oh."

-----

I had so much fun during my stay, K, I can't wait to see you soon! Love, Cassandra xoxo

It was a letter to him from "Cassandra."

This was really odd, he obviously had his real name, she referred to him as "K", so, why didn't Biana? Maybe it was a quirk of the creation?

"Logan, Prince Klove?" The maid outside his door called again.

His door.

Keefe's heart dropped in his chest.

Something had gone wrong when Sophie's mind created this place.

"I'll be out in a second!" Keefe responded.

He raked his hand through his hair in dismay and worry.

How was he going to find the girl he loved?

Sophie wasn't Sophie.

Because the "K" stood for Klove

-----

She saw his exotic eyes watching her. And she could feel him smile. Willow climbed the ladder, and crawled into the treehouse.

What she was doing was illegal, she was violating curfew and doing it to spend time with a boy. But they had never been caught and it was worth it.

They kissed and when she pulled away he said, "Do you remember anything weird or think that you aren't in the right place?"

"Huh?" What the heck was he talking about? "Avery, if you kidnapped someone and brainwashed them in to thinking they loved you, that certainly wouldn't be the first thing you should ask them! It would be suspicious." Avery stiffened and Willow teasingly punched his shoulder. "I'm joking, but no, I'm fine. Why?"

"No reason." Then he flashed his movie star smile, and Willow decided there was no way she was going to enter the selection on the off chance she might get selected. She loved the boy in front of her with everything in her heart.

Who did Prince Logan think he was anyway?

-----

"How was your day?" Avery asked in a hushed whisper, brushing her hair out of her face. Willow blushed at the gesture and immediately re-covered her face with her hair. Oddly, he didn't smirk and tell her not to hide her blush, or make fun of her for blushing. Wait, of course he didn't! Why would Avery ever do that? He was civilized, and kind, and didn't joke around. Wow, when put that way, he sure sounded quite boring.

Maybe it was the fact that he had been the first boy to pay attention to her that had made Willow fall head over heals for him. Maybe she just got lost in his ice- teal eyes and couldn't find her way out. Either way, she wanted to please him and make him love her as much as she loved him... which was a lot, right?

"My mom and Leah are trying to convince me to enter in the Selection!" Then quickly, "I'm not going to of course, I love you." Willow smiled warmly, but instead of smiling back Avery looked triumphant. Something was up with him tonight.

Willow was about to give him the food she had brought for him when a light shined in their direction.

"Who is up there?" A voice of authority called. "Show yourselves and submit to the law!" Willow froze and looked to Avery with panicked eyes. He gave her a look that said he would handle it and she couldn't help swooning over him.

He slowly climbed out of the treehouse and motioned for Willow to follow him. Then, before the officer could speak, Avery turned to address him.

"I'm sorry, sir," He began in a painstakingly sweet voice. "I wish you didn't have to waste your incredible and well known skills of hunting down unwanted evil for a silly thing like this." The officer seemed amused, obviously not buying whatever Avery was playing at. Avery turned and gestured at Willow. "This girl here, Willow Lark (Moonlark?!) is mentally unstable-"

"What?!" Willow turned to look at Avery with wide eyes. "I am most certainly not mentally unstable! What the hell do you think you're playing at Avery." Of course, he just smiled at her. It was like he knew she would freak out and it would prove his point and make her look insane... oh.

Willow gritted her teeth together as Avery continued his story. "You see, sometimes at night she has bad dreams, Miss Lark is, simply put, in love with me, and I help her with her nightmares. Right, dear?" Could he sound cockier?

She wanted to object and exclaim that he was the insane one, but everything he said? It was true. She had said just that night that she loved him and he did help her with her nightmares sometimes. But even though it seemed like he was saving her, she felt like he was using her to saving his own butt.

She smirked at the thought of his butt... which probably just added to the "she's a psycho case."

As long as Avery didn't say anything untrue he wouldn't be breaking any laws, and she realized that he was twisting everything to make it seem like they weren't doing anything that bad. Her boyfriend sure was smart.

"Why couldn't her family members, mother, father, older sibling help? Why did it have to be you? If she is unstable how is she able to sneak out of her house at night and find you in a tree house?" The officer made plenty of good points. And yet, there were many rebuttals that Avery could use: she only talks to me, she's embarrassed of her family, she doesn't want to bother them, she doesn't have an older sibling, but he used one she never would of expected. A response that filled her with unadulterated loathing.

"Her parents are abusive."

Willow couldn't help her jaw from falling open. Sure her parents and sister could be annoying sometimes but they would never strive to physically harm her. The officer smirked, he obviously was going to spread around the news that the caste five Lark family are all abusive psychos and shouldn't be hired for any gigs.

Fortunately, after a little more talking Avery was able to convince the tired officer who just wanted to finish his shift that they were innocent. He turned back to Willow, hoping for a kiss of appreciation or awe or something of the sort.

Instead, he received a slap in utter disgust. (Go Willow!)

It felt like he deserved the slap on a deeper level than what just happened, like she was getting even for something she couldn't remember. He was a selfish jerk who only cared about himself. Willow didn't care if he starved.

She also didn't care about his stupid feelings when she filled out the Selection paperwork and sent it in. She was going to show him what he was missing out on. Going to prove that she was strong, independent, and everything else Leah described her as. Although, Willow didn't know how she was going to steal the heart of a prince if she could't gain the respect of someone who was practically a servant.

What she did know was that she was incredibly determined and that if felt good to ignore Avery.

In fact, she felt quite content when she learned that she, Willow Lark had been chosen, one out of millions, for the Selection.
