Forever Connected
Two dogs sit on the rocks, by the lake. A pair of girls watch them. They are the typical pair of bestfriends that you expect to see. Never once had they ever had a hitch in their friendship, they never fought, and never had anything force them apart. Well until now.
Arabella Grace Black had dark red hair, a pale complexion, and freckles that splayed over her nose, arms, and legs. She lived with her mom, Cassiopeia Ann Black, who was an older version of Arabella. Arabella didn't have a dad anymore, she had one when she was just a baby, but then he left, and caused The Accident. It didn't matter to Ara, she had her mom, a beautiful home, and a best friend, what more could she ask for.
Sarah May Mills had raven black hair, olive toned skin, and a birthmark that sat over her entire right ear, that looked like a bruise. She came from a typical family, she had a mom, and a dad. She had a brother, and a sister. She even had two dogs. Now though, like many families, they have their problems, and as the eldest child, she helps her younger two siblings, which are fraternal twins, understand the conditions they are under. In a few weeks her family was going to have to move, not just to a different part of the state, all the way across the country. There was plenty more she could ask for.
The two girls couldn't be more different, or more the same either. They have had an unbreakable friendship since they were two, will this event somehow change that, or will they overcome it.
~~~~~~
Ara and Sarah sat on a log watching a pair of dogs, more specifically two retrievers, one a caramel color, and one golden. Even though both of the dogs are Sarah's, Cooper, the carmel dog, was very attached to Arabella, as if she was his mother. Ziggy, the golden dog, seemed to have one true love, which was Sarah. Neither of the girls saw anything wrong with how one dog attached himself to one of them, it was only natural, and it was almost bound to happen, as Arabella seemed to almost always be over at Sarah's place.
Now though Sarah hasn't told Ara that she's moving yet. She didn't know how to tell her best friend that she's moving across the country, because you don't got to somebody and say, "Hey! I forgot to tell you! I'm moving across the country in two weeks, and we may never see eachother again once I move!" you just don't do that to a person, especially somebody that's suppose to be your best friend.
Sarah's plan is to make the next two weeks as memorable as possible, and when she leaves, make sure Ara won't be mad at her.
As the two girls watched the dogs, they talked. They talked like normal teenage girls, I know right? A huge surprise. They talked about weekend plans, day plans, their days they had at school, they gossiped a bit, and plenty of other things. They didn't have a crazy life at all, they were like any other person on this planet. They were normal.
"Hey Sarah?" Arabella asked, a smile on her face, "Would you like to come to my play? It's in two weeks, and it's really good for our age. Please consider it, you haven't ever been able to come to any of my plays. It would mean so much to me."
With those few words, Sara panicked, but put on a smile, and nodded, "I would love to come." Ara lit up in excitement, "But, the twins have a school show that I have to help with." and with those words, Ara's mood deflated.
"Oh." Ara said, her mood so much lower than before, "I-I get it. It's fine. I was just hoping, as I'm giving up theatre after this play. There is no way I'm going to be able to make a career out of it, and I need to get out og my stupid childhood dreams."
"What! No! You can't give up theatre. It's a part of you. It's shaped you to be who you are." Sarah nearly shrieked.
"I have my mom to think about. If I fail in theatre, she can't support me forever. I refuse to take money from her when I graduate. It's better this way." She said solemnly, looking down.
Sarah just stared blankly, she didn't know what to say anymore. Her friend has always worried about her mother, but she didn't know that this is how far her worries went.
The days passed too quickly for Sarah's liking. She rarely saw Arabella. Arabella was oblivious to her friend's worries, as she had been spending most of her free time practicing for her play, her last shining moments on the stage ever. Life didn't want to play a fair game on the two friends, but life has given them plenty of gifts along the way.
When the night of the play came, Sarah was packing, and suddenly came to a sudden realization. She jumped up, and grabbed a few belongings, and ran over to Arabella's house, where of course Arabella was not at.
Arabella was spending her last moments in the spotlight, beautifully belting out the ballads, and flawlessly speaking her lines. Her mother cried at the end, thinking about how sad, amazing, and selfless the moment was. She had a daughter who had a heart of gold, and expected great things from her.
As Ara did her bows, the house erupted, and pride, and joy welled up inside of her, but there was an underlying emotion. It was indescribable, it felt like a part of her was being taken away, but it would always be a part of her, and the pain she is feeling is only temporary.
Arabella and her mom made their way home, her mom shedding a few tears. They spoke of Ara's decisions, and her future. They spoke of her father, and her deceased grandparents. While their emotions ran free, they didn't notice Sarah running past their car, away from their house.
When they got home, dinner was prepared, and Ara went up to her room to change, and when she walked in, an occurrence happened that she didn't expect. Cooper came running towards her, with a note attached to his collar. The not read,
Dear Ara,
I feel so guilty, and I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before, and don't try and look for me. I'm already gone. My family and I have already started the moving process, and we're taking the last steps, and following our stuff, and moving across the county.
My father got a new job, and it's headquarters located too far from our home town to stay here. I wish I could have told you sooner, before I left, but I didn't know how to.
I left Cooper for you, he likes you better than me. You are the center of Cooper's world. You are his one true master, like you are my one true friend.
Cooper and Ziggy's hearts beat as one, brothers by the luck of the draw, like how our hearts beat as one. We are sisters by choice, regardless of blood, and birthright, we will never truly be without the other, as we are each other's other halves.
For now, don't forget me. I hate to go. I hate to say goodbye. I hate knowing that I hurt you for leaving. I hate the need for the tears that are sliding down my cheeks, but there is one thing I truly love, and it's you. Never forget, we are forever connected, as our hearts beat as one, and we are never truly apart. I love you Arabella.
Greatest apologies,
Sarah May Mills
