Chapter 4

Mokuba slowly made his way back to the treehouse. He was exhausted, yet relieved that Alice was with him again. When he found his way back to the treehouse, Eri, Brad, and Cody were already there.

"Mokuba!" Eri gasped as she ran to him. The other two boys followed after. Eri hugged Mokuba tightly.

"Whoa. Hey guys." Mokuba chuckled as she wrapped his arms around Eri.

"Where were you?! Your signal completely disappeared off the scanner!" Cody said. Mokuba stared at the older blond blankly.

"I did? That's weird." Mokuba said.

"Thank gods you're here. If you weren't we'd all probably fall apart." Brad sighed. Mokuba chuckled.

"Well I'm still here. And with good news!" Mokuba said as he took out the pokeball and released the Phantump.

"Phantump tump!" It cheered happily.

"Is that Alice?" Eri asked as she let go of Mokuba.

"Yeah it is. Look, hey, Alice." The phantump turned to Mokuba and smiled. It flew around the boy's head, trilling happily.

"Oh my gods it is Alice!" Cody said. Brad suddenly had Mokuba in a headlock.

"Good job Mokuba!" He said as he messed with Mokuba's hair.

"Hey!!" Mokuba laughed as he escaped Brad's hold. Alice then flew into Mokuba's arms and cooed happily. Mokuba chuckled.

"Hey Tiny." He said as he pet her head.

"Why is one eye blue?" Eri then asked.

"What?" Eri walked up to Mokuba and turned Alice's face towards hers.

"Alice's left eye is blue. Why is that?" She asked once again.

"That's... a long story..." He muttered.

"Well, we have all day." Cody said. Mokuba shrugged before telling them what he saw in the fog earlier that day. The three kids listened carefully to his story. Once he was done, they didn't speak. They only thought.

"So, Alice absorbed the color off the Drifloon?" Brad asked, making sure he understood. Mokuba nodded.

"Yeah. She cuddled the Drifloon then all the weird colors on it were absorbed into her body." Mokuba said.

"Weird..." Cody muttered. Suddenly, Alice flew out of Mokuba's arms and over to where her and Ryoko's bodies were.

"Alice! Wait!" Mokuba shouted as he ran after the little ghost. The other three followed to see the Phantump floating right before Ryoko's statue.

"Phan... Phantump..." She softly said, floating closer and closer to the statue. Mokuba stepped forward.

"You miss her huh?" Mokuba said softly. Alice turned to Mokuba.

"Phantump." She softly said, looking at Ryoko and holding her hand with her tiny ghost hands. Mokuba sighed and looked back at the others. They stood and watched as Alice longingly stared at Ryoko's statue. Mokuba sighed and turned back to the little Phantump.

"Hey, Alice," Alice turned her head towards Mokuba. When he extended his arms to her, she hesitantly released Ryoko's statue and floated into his arms.

"It's alright. We'll get her back." He said.

"But first, we need to get you into your body." Alice nodded as Mokuba turned to Cody, who had walked up behind him.

"We'll need to wait till night time to put her back in her body. The book says that the ritual must take place under the light of the moon." Cody said. Mokuba sighed again.

"Alight. I just hope that we don't lose Alice again before the sun sets." Mokuba said as Alice laid on his head and played with his hair.

Thankfully, Alice wasn't interested in running off again. Instead, she stayed with her and Ryoko's statues. The little girl refused to go anywhere else so the kids decided that they would stay with her. They didn't need something else taking her from them again. As the sun began to set, Cody began drawing the summoning circle that would be required for the ritual. While Cody did that, Meowstic helped move Alice's statue to the center of the circle.

"Thanks Meowstic." Cody said, patting its head.

"Meowstic!" It purrs. Mokuba then walked over to the circle with Alice in his arms. She was nervous and didn't understand what was going on. When Mokuba tried to put her down, she held on tight.

"Phantump!! Phantump!!" She cried.

"Hey hey! It's ok! We're just trying to get you back into your body." Mokuba said, patting her head. Alice looked at the long haired boy with large sad eyes. Mokuba inhaled.

"Ack, Alice! Don't do this to me now." Mokuba said helplessly. Alice whined but Mokuba put her down anyway. Alice looked so sad that it hurt Mokuba's entire being to walk away. He walked up to Cody.

"Please make this fast. I can't stand seeing Alice looking at us like that..." Mokuba said. Cody chuckled.

"Don't worry Mokuba. It's a quick process." Cody said as he stood to his full height. Once the sun was gone and the moon glowed above them, the ritual was about to begin. Cody opened the book and flipped to the page of the soul summoning ritual.

"To the gods above, please hear my plea. The lost soul has been found, and must be sent back home. Please, lend me your power, and allow me to return this spirit to it's origins." Cody said as he stepped into the circle. As he did, the Phantump began to phase in and out of existence. Mokuba stood by, hands shaking. Suddenly, the Phantump gave a loud cry before the soul was removed from the body. The stump that made it's head fell to the ground with a soft thud. Alice's soul was free. The little ball of light floated down into Cody's hands.

"Time to put you back where you belong." Cody said as he walked over to the little statue and placed the ball of light into the statue. As the statue absorbed the light, the stone began to crack. Once the entire statue looked like it was ready to crumble any second, the stone fell off of Alice's body. As soon as all of the material had fallen off her body, Alice fell into Cody's arms. The summoning circle stopped glowing, and Alice soon opened her eyes and groaned.

"Iko..." she tiredly muttered. Mokuba ran and took the youngest member and held her tight.

"Alice!!! You're ok!!!" He cried with joy. Alice hugged.

"Mokie!! Too tight!" She fussed. Mokuba let go of her.

"Sorry sorry. I'm just so glad you're ok!" He said, tears rolling down his cheeks. The other three ran up and joined Mokuba in the hug fest. Alice giggled and laughed as she was smothered with love and hugs from the older kids. Once everyone got their hugs in, Mokuba turned Alice towards her.

"Why did you run away?! Do you know how worried I-we were?!" Mokuba asked. Alice looked at her toes shyly.

"I followed Iko." She said, Mokuba's eyes widened. He looked up at the others to make sure he heard that right. The others had equally shocked faces. Cody then kneeled next to the five year old.

"Alice, what do you mean you followed Ryoko?" He softly asked. Alice looked up at him.

"Iko was standing over there." Alice pointed at the tree line. The other kids looked at each other with wide eyes.

"Where did Ryoko go when you followed her?" Mokuba asked. Wife shrugged.

"I dunno. Um-she went that way and then she stopped and looked at me. She told me to go to her and she took me away." Alice said casually.

"That would explain the positioning." Brad muttered from behind Cody. Cody looked at Mokuba. He looked focused, or lost in his head.

"Mokuba?" The purple eyed boy snapped out of his trance and looked at Cody.

"Y-yeah?"

"Care to share with the class?" Mokuba blinked before shaking the shock.

"Ok, um," he turned to Alice again.

"Alice, what happened after Ryoko took you away?"

"She touched the purple balloon! And then she became a black one! And she told me to become a Phantump!" She said a little too happily.

"So what happened when Mokie found you?" Cody asked. Alice stared at Cody blankly. She then crossed her arms and put a hand on her chin.

"Hhhmmmm." She muttered. The older four waited patiently for Alice to remember. But it caused them to be a little antsy.

"Oh! I renember now!" Alice suddenly said. The kids turned their attention back to Alice.

"Before Mokie came to me, Iko told me that she was sorry and she loved me. Then uh, she went into my body! And she said that she'll always be right here." Alice then pointed to her chest.

"And, she said that she's right here in all of us!" Alice said with a smile. The kids absorbed the message that Alice just said. Cody sighed and picked Alice up.

"She's right Alice. Ryoko will always be in our hearts." Cody said as he turned to the others.

"Let's get some sleep now. We need to fix our sleep schedules." The kids chuckled and giggled at Cody's remark before heading up into the treehouse.
