Chapter Twenty-Seven

a/n: Decided to go for a little of the babysitting and then other scenes. Man, you guys are excited for the baby. Same, tbh. I just want to write the chapter where it's born and get it over with. CURSE MY BEING A SLOW STORY LINE WRITER. UGH.

Also, you should know I already pre-picked out Sophie and Keefe's future children names. Only one person knows ONE of the names because it's her name and I asked to use it. (You know who you are.) Instead, I'll let you guys vote on the gender. I have names for both genders because they're not just going to have one kid and their multiple kids will be of different genders.

chapter question: You guys should tell me some embarrassing stories of yourself. I will reply to the comments (probably using my first account) with an embarrassing story of my own. All different. That's how many I have.. and they're interesting because my entire life is embarrassing xD edit: so I wrote the authors note before school and now it's after school and I have a really embarrassing story that happened to me today that I really want to tell someone xD

"What about this name?" Sophie questioned.

Keefe shook his head and said, "No, that's lame. We need a cool name. Our baby should be cool."

"If it's a girl?"

"She needs to be even more cool," he said with a low hum. "What about a human name?"

"I want her to fit in," Sophie said, frowning.

"What about a human name with a elfish tone to it?"

She thought about it. "Maybe."

"Maybe?" He grinned. "I'll take that." He looked at Adela. "What do you want to name your cousin?"

Adela looked up from her spot on the floor where she was playing with toys. "Adela," she answered.

Sophie laughed. "Honey, that's your name. We can't use it."

"We could be name twins," she said, grinning. "I want a name twin."

Sophie smiled while shaking her head. "No. Your name should stay as special as it currently," Sophie said before picking her up. "I think you need a diaper change," she said.

"I wear pull-ups," she cheered, grinning.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Fine. I think you need a pull-up change," she corrected.

"You can take it," Keefe said, picking up a book of names. "I'm going to be looking through this." Sophie nodded and took Adela into another room.

Just as she walked into a different room, the door opened and Ashla gasped. "What did you do to my baby?" Ashla asked, storming into the room. She started to look under the furniture.

"Ashla," Fitz said, coming in behind her, "the baby isn't going to be under furniture."

She looked up. "I want my baby. Where is she?"

"Relax Momma Bear. Sophie went to go change her pull-up." Keefe didn't even look up from his book.

She let out a sigh of relief. "This is why I should've stayed home like last time."

"Ashla... last time you were nine months pregnant," Fitz reminded. "You really wouldn't stand spending five minutes with my family, nevermind two hours."

"That was more than a year," Keefe commented. "How are these meetings spaced out?"

Fitz shrugged. "They're just there."

Keefe rolled his eyes, but still nodded. Sophie walked in before Keefe could respond, Adela curled up in her arms. "Sorry it took so long," she apologized. "She ended up being really tired."

Sophie gently handed Adela over to Fitz who smiled and his daughter before looking at Sophie and saying, "Thanks." He turned to Ashla. "Ready to go home?" She nodded and followed after him out the door.

___

"How about you carry the baby for nine months and then we'll see who gets to choose," Sophie said, glaring.

"Sophie, Elf births don't even hurt. You'd know that. You really have no reason to be all mad about carrying him or her."

She raised an eyebrow. "My feet hurt, my skin is stretching, there's eventually going to be a baby thinking it's a soccer player, my favorite foods aren't my favorite foods anymore, and I've thrown up twice today," she responded. She crossed her arms. "No reason?"

He just stared at her blankly as he took it all in. "Your feet hurt?"

"That's all you got?"

"Well, it's simple. You shouldn't need to worry about the stretched skin because I'd love you even if you were fat, the baby being a soccer player is technically a good sign, at least there are new favorite foods, and the throwing up can't be fixed so the only thing I can really worry about is your feet. You wanna sit down?"

"I want a foot rub," she demanded.

"That's nasty," he said, scrunching his face up.

"The next time I throw up, I'm puking on you," she said, frowning.

He held his arms up in defense. "Okay, okay. I'll give you a foot run."

A grin spread on her face and she quickly leaned in and kissed his cheek. "Thank you. Love you."

___

"Well, the cradle can't simply go there," Edaline denied.

"Come on, Mom," Sophie whined.

"No. It will ruin the entire effect of the room."

"It's my baby."

"Who is a person. A person with feelings." She looked around the room. "No good feelings would come from the cradle being positioned there."

"I actually like it," Grady argued.

"Thanks, dad," Sophie said with a grin.

He looked at her for a split second before turning to Edaline. "The diaper changing table just doesn't fit right there-"

"Alright, that's enough," Sophie cut Grady off, pushing both of them out of the nursery. "It took forever for me to convince Keefe to build this and you're not ruining it," she said, pointing to the both of them.

Edaline laughed lightly. "Oh, honey. You're going to be a great mother. Now, I'm going to quiz you on some parenting skills."

Sophie shrugged. "Quiz away."

"Baby cries: what do you do?"

"Shut it up," she replied. Her eyes widened. "I've been spending way to much time with Keefe."

"Answer truthfully, please."

"I check to see why it's crying and then after that I do whatever I'm supposed to do to shut it up," she answered.

Edaline sighed. "Good enough. Now, the baby is with the nanny you hired-"

"We're hiring a nanny?" She frowned.

"Well, you and Keefe both have jobs, don't you?"

"I have maternity leave," Sophie said, frowning.

"Not for the first sixteen years of the baby's life," Edaline said.

"I was hoping it would stem up with the second kid," she replied, rolling her eyes. "But really, is there nannies in the Elvin world?" she questioned.

Edaline nodded. "They're not really that popular. Most people work so they have things to do. Having kids means having things to do. There are the few people in jobs they don't ever want to quit like you and Keefe, so that means that's probably what you should look into."

Sophie nodded. "I guess I could do that," she agreed, nodding to herself. "I'll talk with him later about it."

"Who?"

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Keefe. Apparently I'm not allowed to make big decisions without him. His DNA takes up half the kid and that means that he has some sort of say," she explained sarcastically.

"Honey. . . You have been spending way too much time around Keefe," Edaline said, rolling her eyes. She smiled. "Well, you should think about that. Now next in the quiz. You're leaving the baby out of your sight for the first time since it was born. What do you do?"

"Well, I'll go off of Ashla... You be a Mama Bear," she said. "You get anxious and call home every five minutes and try to find as many excuses as you can to go back home and have it back in your arms," she answered.

Edaline nodded. "It's not what you're supposed to do, but it is what you do," Edaline replied, smiling softly. "We've got to go. We'll continue this quiz later."

Sophie nodded. "Thanks for coming by, guys," she thanked as they walked through the doors.

"Thanks for inviting us. We haven't really come over since. . . The weekend after your wedding. You usually come see us."

She frowned at that but didn't reply as they reached the front doors. "Bye Mom, bye dad. Love you both," she said, smiling sadly once they left.

She looked at her stomach before sitting down on the couch. "Okay, here's the deal," she whispered, looking down at the small bump. "I'm not going to be strict, per say. Your father is going to teach you how to get on my nerves, though." She smiled at the thought of Keefe teaching their son or daughter how to play a prank. "Now, you're probably going to be really special. Times will get rough because I used to be really important when I was younger. You might have a few kids at school who won't friend you because their parents didn't like me. I want you to know that what they think doesn't matter. I'm gonna teach you that. You're going to be powerful and special and loved and you'll be mine. I'm going to love you so much that no one's ever going to be good for you." She smiled at her stomach. "Now, we'll leave talking about your father for another day. That'll take a while. He's not that good. He's amazing and my soulmate and I love him... But he's made some mistakes. I've made mistakes, too. I'm definitely not perfect. You can ask the ogres. Those guys hate me." She started to rub her stomach. "I'm ranting, aren't I? Oh well. I-"

"Who are you talking to?" Keefe asked, stepping inside. He smiled at Sophie. "Finally gone crazy?"

She shook her head. "I'm talking to the baby," she answered his previous question.

"It can hear you?" he questioned, sitting down next to her.

"Human babies can hear, kind of. It's like they get so used to the mother's voice it's why they trust her automatically. I don't really know. I may have been really good in school studies but health definitely wasn't my favorite class to pay attention to. I heard this, not read this."

"That's really cool," Keefe said, grinning.

She shrugged. "If it's true. If it's not then I just spent a long time rambling to myself."

He grinned and quickly kissed her. "I'll make dinner tonight." He got up and walked over to the kitchen.

She stood up and walked after him. "Why?"

"You made dinner yesterday," he stated like it was obvious.

"Yeah but... I don't want you to just do it like you have to."

"Sophie, don't complain. You're lucky to have a husband who cooks."

"You don't really cook. You put stuff in a bowl and sometimes you get the directions wrong," she said, laughing.

He shook his head. "But it is elf food, and elf food is delicious no matter what it looks like or how under cooked it is," he said, grinning as he took out a bowl and some random plants. "I make some random good stuff mixed together, you go rest."

She nodded and quickly gave him a kiss before walking upstairs.
