Chapter Twenty-Four

a/n: So I was looking through old chapters and fun fact: Ashla has a sister named Maeve! Interesting, right? Also, their last name is Keturah. Idk where I got that from when I started writing this but yeah. Also, apparently in the original thing I wrote on my notes app on my kindle when I had no wifi at church, Ashla and Fitz broke up. Welp, I think it's safe to say that I'm totally off topic from my original plot ideas. That, and man my memory sucks.

As a sorry to Maeve for forgetting she exists, I'm giving her her first appearance in this book.

chapter question: What's your favorite tv show?

Mine is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Watching Buffy used to be this once a year thing on my birthday. My birthday is July 3rd (the day before Independence Day) so every night from when I was maybe 3-8 on my birthday my dad would put on four episodes from season 1 or 2 and me, him, and my older sister would watch before going outside and walking up our street to watch the fireworks people put on. Eventually we started doing other stuff on my birthday and Buffy was just a memory old but not forgotten. When I was 12 and we had just finished watching Roswell (which is my 3rd fav tv show) and my dad decided the next tv show we would watch was Buffy. It was kind of like listening to your old favorite song. I refell in love with it and I've been watching reruns and old favorite episodes on Netflix since finishing watching it.

wow that got detailed. Anyways, not reread or edited.

THIS IS ONE YEAR LATER BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH INSPIRATION IN THE WORLD TO GO OFF THE STORY LINE I CURRENTLY HAVE

"No, you put it over there," Sophie said, pointing.

Keefe rolled his eyes. "Why are we doing this?"

"Adela took her first steps and that deserves a party," Sophie said, nodding to herself.

"She took her first steps a long time ago."

"But she didn't start walking around all the time two weeks ago," Sophie argued. "Anyways, Ashla is out with her sister-"

"Ashla has a sister?" Keefe's eyes widened.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, remember? Maeve. She was on your matchmaking scroll?"

"Ah, matchmaking scrolls. . . So, so long ago. . ." He chuckled to himself. "How come we never hear about her?"

"Who's Marty?" Sophie asked, smiling.

Keefe frowned. "Uh. . . I have no idea."

"My old cat growing up," Sophie said, turning around. "I loved that cat like it was my baby. It broke my heart to leave him in the Forbidden Cities. I've never told you about him?"

Keefe frowned. "No. . . "

"So if I never tell you about Marty, the cat that was like my baby, why does Ashla have to tell you everything about her sister?"

Keefe nodded. "Point taken." He looked around. "Are Dex and Biana coming?"

"They just got married last week," Sophie said, rolling her eyes. Dex and Biana were engaged for a full year and a few months before actually getting married because they wanted Adela to be their flower girl. They eventually got married a week earlier when Adela finally mastered the art of walking at a little over one years old.

"But this is Biana's niece, you know how she is with not missing things. You told them about it, right?"

"Right before they went to their house after the reception I told them," she assured. She went to say something else when Fitz came into the room carrying Adela in his arms.

"Adela," he sighed, "you can't bring your toys here."

She glared up at him, but her baby face made Sophie want to squeeze her cheeks. "I want the toy," she argued.

He smiled at her. "You're not getting the toy."

"She's so precious," Sophie cooed. "I want her," she said, looking at Fitz with serious eyes.

He grinned and held her up so Sophie could hold her. "Here, take her. I'll help Keefe set up everything. You need your rest." He winked.

Sophie's eyes widened. How do you know?  She transmitted, looking at Keefe.

Ashla told me. You didn't tell him?  Fitz's eyes widened and he looked at Keefe as well.

Keefe looked at them in confusion. "What don't I know?" He frowned.

Sophie smiled softly. "Oh, nothing, honey. I just told Ashla and Biana something and she loud mouthed it to Fitz. It's not a big deal." She waved him off before pulling Adela closer to her body and walking over to the couch.

Keefe nodded before going to Fitz and explaining what they were trying to do. "Hey, did you invite Ashla's parents?" Fitz asked. "Her family seems to be left out on a lot of things and apparently it's necessary they be invited. She's already in trouble enough for not having Maeve as a bridesmaid like their parents wanted."

Sophie nodded. "Yeah. I hand delivered them and everything."

"You hand delivered them?" Keefe questioned. "Why?"

She took in a deep breath. "Oh, you know. . . I just needed to get out of the house that day."

Fitz looked at her in alarm. "Is that the day you found out what you told Ashla?"

Sophie nodded, a small smile on her face. "Yeah. Now shh about that. I can't have you blabbing to everyone about it. I want to share this. Dex took away sharing our engagement and Ashla is the one who told my parents I was moving out." She rolled her eyes.

"Why can't I know?" Keefe asked, frowning. Sophie smiled at him. "You were supposed to know long before Fitz knew, if that helps," she said. "You know what? How about I tell you right now?" She grinned.

"Here, Fitz, you take Adela back." Sophie handed her back to Fitz. Sophie leaned over and kissed Adela's forehead. She looked at Keefe. "We're going back to our house for this."

He nodded slowly as they left to go back to their house.

___

"Okay, so why are we home?" Keefe asked, frowning.

"Well, it's not like we could kick Fitz and Adela out of their own house," Sophie responded, rolling her eyes. "I have to tell you when you're alone."

He nodded. "Okay, so tell me."

"You should sit down," she said.

He frowned. "I think I'm okay standing up. How bad is the news?"

"Bad? It;s really good. . . Actually, I think I should sit down," she said, sitting down on their couch.

He sat down next to her. "Okay, if it's good news then why don't you just let it out?"

"Because while it's good news it's also really big," She said, nodding to herself. "Okay, I'll just let it out. . . " She took in a deep breath. "We're having a baby," she finally said after a few seconds of silence.

His eyes widened. "What?"

"You know? Baby? Like, even tinier versions of toddlers?" She smiled. "Good news or bad news?"

"Good news," he finally said, grinning. "Really good news."

"Really?" She grinned.

He nodded. "Really."

"Yeah?" She said. She leaned in and quickly kissed him on the lips. She patted his hand. "See, you had nothing to worry about," she told him, grinning.

He rolled his eyes. "How come you didn't tell me any sooner?" He asked, frowning.

She sighed. "Well, I just found out on Biana and Dex's wedding day last week. We got caught up in their wedding and only Ashla and Biana knew. Then Biana got married and said I couldn't tell everybody until after her and Dex were no longer MIA. Then I started worrying about their wedding and after they got married I was worried about running Adela's party and the baby just completely slipped my mind."

"You forgot you were pregnant?" Keefe's eyes widened. "You're joking."

She cringed. "Well, I didn't forget. I have a photographic memory. I don't forget things easily." She shook her head and laughed to herself. "It's just. . . Weird, you know?" She shrugged. "Like, there's a person growing inside me right now."

"Yeah, and once it comes out, we're expected to take care of it," he added. "I can't exactly take care of something I don't know exists."

She laughed. "You know I love you, right?"

He grinned. "Eh."

___

"Biana, Dex, you guys came," Sophie said, grinning at the pair holding hands in the doorway.

Biana nodded, letting her head rest on Dex's shoulder. "I couldn't miss my nieces party. How would she feel if her favorite aunt missed it."

Sophie let the two in and they walked in to see a large group of people in Fitz and Ashla's living room. People from both sides of the family. Biana's eyes widened and she turned to Sophie. "What are they doing here?" She hissed.

"You do know Adela is related to them, too, right?" Sophie raised her eyebrows.

"Right. . . Ashla has family," Biana said with a sigh. "It's just. . . Maeve was friends with Stina."

"You were friends with Maruca," Sophie retorted.

"Maruca is a saint," Biana said, rolling her eyes.

"She didn't used to be," Sophie reminded. "You weren't a saint either, Biana."

Biana sighed. "I know, but-"

"But nothing," Sophie cut her off, pointing.

Biana smirked. "Your inner mom is coming out." Sophie rolled her eyes. "Have you told Keefe yet?"

"I told him right before we showed up here."

"Told Keefe what?" Alden asked, walking up behind the girls. He smiled at Biana. "Where's Dex?"

She frowned and looked around. "Uh. . . He was literally right here two seconds ago," she said, looking around. Confusion filled her features but she just brushed it off. "Oh well."

Alden laughed before turning to Sophie. "What were you telling Keefe?"

She waved it off, letting out an awkward cough. "Oh, you know. . . Nothing important." She smiled. "Hey, is it weird being a grandparent?"

He frowned. "Not really. It's weird that Fitz had a kid before Alvar and Maisie." he said, shrugging. "I was prepared."

Della came up to them and laughed. "Alden, when did me and you switch pasts?" She shook her head at Sophie. "He freaked out about it. I was the calm person."

Alden frowned at Sophie. "Why are you asking this?"

She bit her lip and looked at Biana, who's eyes lit up. "Oh come on, Sophie!" Biana cheered. "Spit it out!"

"Okay, but not in front of everyone," Sophie said, taking Alden's hand and pulling him after her. She pulled him into Adela's nursery , and Della followed after. "One second, Keefe should be here," Sophie said. She stuck her head out the door and called him in. When he walked in Sophie took in a deep breath. "I'm pregnant," she told them.

Alden jumped up. "That's great news," he cheered. Della let out a squeal while he did this and wrapped her arms around Sophie. Alden gave Keefe a quick hug before turning and giving Sophie one. "Have you told your parents?"

Sophie shook her head. "Only us, you guys, Biana, Fitz, and Ashla know. Plus Dex if Biana told him."

"You have to tell them," Alden said, frowning.

She nodded. "Yeah, I know."

He turned to Keefe. "You should tell your parents too," he said.

"My parents?" Keefe chuckled. "Funny," he said. He let out a shaky breath. "Well, they probably think we're all crazy just hanging out in the baby's nursery, so. . . " He gestured for them all to exit.

They all chuckled while exiting the room. Sophie pulled Fitz aside. "Your parents know."

He nodded. "Well, Grady and Edaline are here now. I just let them in. You should tell them."

She let out a groan. "How about we all wait until I'm like. . . No longer pregnant and it is like. . . fully grown?"

Fitz laughed. "Hilarious. Now, go pull them aside like you did my parents."

She nodded. "Okay. I can do this. I'm not bringing Keefe in for this one, though." She walked up to Keefe after saying that. "I'm telling my mom and dad. You're not allowed to come in with me," she said sternly.

He nodded. "Okay. Just tell me when you've told them."

She nodded before giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll be right back." She walked away and ran into someone. She looked up and smiled. "Uh, Maeve, right?"

She nodded. She looked exactly like Ashla except she was a little shorter, she was two years younger than Ashla, and her hair was a darker color. "Sophie Foster." Maeve nodded her head.

"It's Sophie Sencen," she corrected. "I've been married for more than a year."

Maeve nodded. "Right. To Keefe Sencen. . . I heard I was on his matchmaking scroll." She sighed.

Sophie nodded. "Yeah. You were," she replied awkwardly. "Look, I-"

"Where's my niece?"

"Your niece?" Sophie frowned.

"Yeah, niece. I get that you're the godmother and think that gives you some claim to the name aunt, but I'm her actual aunt." Maeve glared.

"Uh, look, I'm just used to that coming from Biana. Who's also a blood-related aunt," Sophie said, forcing her smile. "Look, I have something important to tell my parents. Adela is probably with Fitz."

"Right." Maeve nodded once, a frown on her face. "Her name's Adela? Where did they get that name from?" She scoffed. She turned around and Sophie made a face at her back. She started walking away and Sophie let out a sigh of relief.

Biana passed by her and Sophie grabbed her arm. "Nightmare," she told Biana.

"What?" Biana asked, confused.

"Maeve," Sophie clarified. "Don't ever put me alone with her again. I think that girl doesn't realize I have inflicting abilities."

"Aren't you not allowed to use that?"

"I use it on Keefe all the time," she said.

"Well, he won't tell on you," Biana said. "Whatever. Just, tell me when you're about to be alone with her. Anyways, I've got to go find Dex."

Sophie nodded. "I'm going to go find my parents. I still need to tell them you-know-what," she responded before walking away.

"Mom, Dad, can I tell you something?"

The two nodded and followed after her. She pulled them into the nursery. "Okay, so I have to tell you guys something about me and Keefe."

"Are you guys getting divorced?" Grady asked, confused. He looked at Edaline. "Has anyone ever gotten divorced?"

Sophie immediately shook her head. "Gosh, no. Why would you think that?" Her eyes were wide in confusion.

"Well, I just remembered that's how you told us you and one of your ex boyfriends had broken up that one time. We thought you were going to tell us you were pregnant that one time and got scared." He let out a small chuckle.

Sophie chuckled nervously. "Funny you should bring that up," she said, biting her lip after letting those words out."
