Chapter Thirty-Two

a/n: My mom is having her surgery today and she'll be staying in the hospital over two nights. . . *jazz hands*

GUYS I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING!! In basically every book one of the boys goes bat-shix crazy in my own words. In Exile Fitz is a douche to Sophie, in Everblaze Dex has everything wrong with him, and in Neverseen... well, there's a reason I feel the need to rewrite the ending into my own thinking. Book 5 will probably continue to have it be Keefe which sucks because I love him like he's my husband.

Also, I will be writing a new advice book where I give advice on ANYTHING so my chapter question is actually asking for you to ask me for some advice xD

So. I'm going to cry if I did my outline wrong for the essay I talked about in the thingy before this.

not reread or edited

edit: So it's after school. My mom had the surgery and basically they made the inside of her stomach smaller meaning she's going to have to exercise and diet for a long time starting now... That's going to be weird.

"I get my own classroom and everything? That's great," Sophie said with a grin.

"You were actually personally selected as the mentor they wanted. We gave the pupil a few other choices but they were sure they wanted you even though you've never mentored before."

She grinned and took the paper from her. "Julia LaBois," she read out loud. Her eyes widened. "I had this girl in lunch detention a few weeks ago," Sophie said, rolling her eyes. Within the first week she was given the slot of doing lunch detention every Monday and study hall every Thursday. "When did she get her telepathy?"

"She didn't get telepathy. She got inflicting." Dame Camille smiled.

Sophie eyes widened. "Inflicting?"

Dame Camille let out a laugh. "No. That's really rare. No, she manifested in telepathy over the weekend. We decided to get her into training right away."

Sophie nodded. "She's a good kid."

"That you met in lunch detention," Dame Camille confirmed.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "She's actually not that bad," Sophie said, grinning. "She decided skipping with her best friend and her best friend's boyfriend was the way to go." Sophie shrugged. "Mentoring for abilities is still on Tuesdays and Thursdays, right?"

Dame Camille nodded. "You've changed a lot in our world but the school schedule is still the same."

"I have a prodigy," Sophie said with a large grin.

"What do you mean?" Ashla asked, placing some baby food into Adela's mouth.

"I'm somewhat an official telepathy mentor," she gushed. "Julia LaBois is a sweet girl, too. And young. She's in level three."

"Remember when we were level threes and you basically started a huge war," Biana teased with a large grin, earning a large scowl from Sophie. "Yes, I know... Don't speak of the past. That stuff is all done. It's just, we can't ignore that there is a past."

"We don't," Sophie said. "I accept my past and everything with it. If it weren't for my past, this wouldn't be my future. I love my future right now."

"You want to know what's really annoying?" Ashla started.

"What?" Biana questioned, looking at Ashla.

"You guys always brush that stuff off. Like. . . I never know what's going on and I feel really left out because everyone experienced it to me." She frowned.

"I kind of figured this would happen one day," Biana said, looking at Sophie. "I mean, there was two girls and three guys. Someone had to end with an outsider to our group and would have to explain everything."

Sophie looked at Ashla. "You're telling me that Fitz has said absolutely nothing about our past?"

Ashla shrugged. "Little things. Like, I know there's Black Swan and Neverseen. I know that Keefe's mom was the leader and what happened because of that."

Sophie and Biana shared a look before looking at Ashla and telling her all the stories.

___

"Hi, Julia," Sophie greeted when Julia walked in nervously. She sat down in a chair across from Sophie and nodded her head once in acknowledgment.

"Hi, Lady Sophie," she greeted.

Sophie scrunched her face up and shook her head. "That's not going to work out. Just call me Sophie," she instructed. Julia nodded. "Okay, so we're going to have to go over the rules of telepathy first." Sophie sat up in her seat. "Do you at least have an idea of them?"

Julia nodded. "Yeah, like aren't we not supposed to just go around reading people's minds."

Sophie grinned. "Yeah. They don't like it when we do that." She nodded.

Julia tilted her head. "You've done it before?"

"I somewhat started a war by reading the old ogre king's mind," she admitted, biting her lip. "That doesn't make it in the history books, right?"

Julia shrugged. "I haven't taken Elvin history. I was supposed to but I decided not to."

Sophie shrugged. "Well, I hope it's not. Anyways, yes that's a rule. There's a reason it's called rules and not rule." She spent the rest of the time going off of a paper and naming everything to Julia, who sat and stared in interest. Sophie was surprised when she even asked a few questions.

"Well, it's time for you to go to study hall now," Sophie said, standing up.

"Do you think one day I could read an alicorn's mind like you can?" Julia asked, stepping outside with Sophie.

Sophie shrugged. "My friend Fitz could do it at one point when his mid was in tune with mine. What's the difference if you ever do it?" She smiled. "It would probably centuries, though."

Julia nodded. "So, your mind is impenetrable?"

Sophie shook her head. "No one's mind is truly impenetrable. Even I have my limits." They got to a crowded hallway with students. "I'll see you around, Julia."

___

"I feel like an old man. 'No one's mind is truly impenetrable'... Who am I? Forkle?" Sophie sat back in her seat next to Kenric.

Keefe looked up at her from his desk and raised an eyebrow. "You're obviously not an old man so you're fine."

"Would you still love me if I was an old man?" Sophie asked curiously.

He shook his head. "Nope. I tend to go more to the feminine side of the race," he replied, writing something down.

"So, our love has no meaning to you?" She mock gasped.

He rolled his eyes. "Aren't you supposed to be a teacher?"

"I prefer mentor," she said.

"You should be responsible," he muttered, writing down even more.

She frowned. "What are you writing?"

"Pranks I can teach Kenric once he's old enough," he stated, writing down something else.

She rolled her eyes and ripped the sheet from her hands. "All of these are against me," she whined.

"Well, I went all against my dad. I can't teach him to go against his dad because I'm his dad... His mother is the next best thing," Keefe explained casually, taking the paper back.

"You're a terrible human being," she stated.

He grinned. "That's because I'm not human."

She let out a sigh. "I don't know what I should go over tomorrow in my telepathy session with Julia. What should I teach her?"

"How to quiet a baby," he said.

"What?" she questioned.

He put his hand on Kenric's forehead and smiled at Sophie. "He's starting to feel hungry and soon enough hungry will mean that he's going to wail for food," he told her.

She looked at Kenric. "But he's sleeping."

"You don't get hungry when you sleep?" Keefe questioned.

She shook her head. "Not really. I mean, breakfast isn't really a huge thing for me." She shrugged and looked at Kenric. "Why is he in your office right now?"

Keefe smiled at him. "He wouldn't stop babbling on about random stuff and I told him I'd take him to my magical palace if he was quiet."

Sophie's eyes widened. "You shut him up by taking him into your office?"

"I let him play with my mini rubix cube," Keefe proudly stated. "He loves it."

"What if he had swallowed it?" Sophie's tone filled with concern and she looked down at Kenric with worried eyes.

"The kid can't fit his fist in his mouth. Trust me, I've seen him try." Sophie turned back to look and Keefe. She opened her mouth to say something but Kenric woke up before she could say anything. "You should probably feed him," Keefe said, smiling at Sophie. "I'll go make our dinner." He stood up, placed a kiss on Sophie's forehead, and walked out of the room.

___

After a week of mentoring Julia, Sophie decided to call in Fitz to help with a session. "Hi Sophie," Julia greeted when she walked through the door, playing with her Imparter. She put it on her Imparter in her bag and looked up to see Fitz. "Oh, hi," she greeted, frowning.

"Julia, this is Fitz Vacker," Sophie introduced, smiling at Fitz before turning back to Julia. "He's one of my best friends."

"Hi Julia," Fitz greeted, shaking Julia's hand. "Sophie has told me some interesting stuff about you."

Julia looked at Sophie. "Interesting stuff?"

"The council told me that you read Bronte's mind," Sophie said. "Not a lot have done that. You have a strong mind. I believe there's a chance you could read Fitz's mind."

"Few have gotten through my blocking... Of course, Sophie has." He gave Sophie a smile before turning to Julia. "I give you permission to try."

She frowned and turned to Sophie. "Do you think I could?"

Sophie nodded. "I do believe." She turned to Fitz. "May I enter too?"

He rolled his eyes. "I don't know why you would even ask," he stated.

She rolled her eyes and entered the mind. She's nervous. You should calm her down, he thought. He was looking at Sophie while tilting his head towards Julia.

Sophie nodded in understanding and looked at Julia. She sat down next to Julia and smiled gently. "If you can't do it, I want you to promise you won't be discouraged," Sophie said.

Julia shrugged. "I just don't want to let you down."

Sophie stared at her in wonder. "You remind me of me when I was around your age," Sophie said before frowning. "Gosh, that makes me sound so old," she said once the words got out.

Julia laughed. "You're actually really young. My Universe teacher is over five hundred years old," she said, frowning. "You're... like, twenty."

"I'm actually closer to thirty now," she said, shrugging. She then looked at Fitz before looking back at Julia. "Okay, now I want you to focus and try to enter Fitz's mind." She nodded and closed her eyes. She squeezed them shut and placed her fingers on Fitz's temples.

"You're wondering why I'm squeezing my eyes shut" Julia said, taking a step back. She grinned and Sophie gave her a high five. "I did it!" Julia cheered.

Sophie grinned. "That's amazing, Julia. I knew you could." Then she turned to Fitz. "A thirteen year old just broke through your mind block," Sophie said, trying not laugh.

He rolled his eyes. "I need to go and pick up Adela from my grandparent's house."

"I've never met your grandparents," Sophie said, frowning.

"Have you met Grady and Edaline's parents?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow.

She opened her mouth to answer but closed it, thinking. Her eyes widened. "I've never met Grady and Edaline's parents."

Fitz nodded. "I'm not close to my grandparents but they offered to watch Adela and Ashla accepted for me." He quickly gave Sophie a hug and took out his home crystal. "Bye Soph," he said before leaving.

She turned to Julia. "I can't wait to see what else you can do. I haven't been this proud since the time my son went a full night without crying... And I haven't been this happy since the time he was finally born." She grinned.
