Chapter Thirty-Six
a/n: The epilogue has like... Nothing anything close to an epilogue in it. It's more like an explanation on everyone's life. If you're all fine with that then I'm fine with that. If not, I think I have an idea of a scene I can write... But I kind of like the explanation of what happens to each character. I did that at the end of my book Letters to David. So maybe I can do an explanation on what happens to everyone and an epilogue?
Chapter question: Just tell me if I should do both or just one of them. If you're confused about what explanations are I recommend you go to my book Letters to David and read the "What Happens Next" chapter and that's basically the layout of a what happens next chapter.
"Momma," Kenric said, "can I name the baby?"
Sophie turned to her son who was sitting on the floor next to the kitchen playing with his toys. She stood straighter and folded her arms across her chest. "You want to name the baby?"
He nodded over-exaggeratedly. "I wanna."
She smiled and leaned down so she was face to face with him. She was scared she'd loose her balance while talking to him so slowly she sat down on the kitchen floor in front of him. "Okay," she said. "Do you have names for a boy and girl?"
"Why can't I pick?" He frowned.
Sophie let out a small laugh. "Baby, we have no choice in whether the baby is a boy or a girl," she told him. "It doesn't work that way."
He leaned in and whispered to her stomach, "I know I can't pick but I recommend you be a girl, okay? Try really hard."
Sophie held back her laugh and patted Kenric's head. "What's the name you picked out?"
"Rowan," he said.
She frowned. "Did Aunty Biana set you up for this?" she questioned, thinking of the time everyone sat around and said baby names and Biana forced her to choose Rowan as an option.
He shook his head. "I found a picture of a tree in my room in my nature book-"
"You have books?" She frowned. "But, you can't read."
He grinned. "Daddy reads to me sometimes when I have trouble sleeping. He said I can't tell you though or else you'll slap him because you didn't know and you probably would have wanted to know."
She looked at her son in surprise. "You're really smart, kid," she said, smiling. She took in a deep breath and made a note to slap Keefe later like Kenric said she would. "Anyways, what's this about a nature book?"
"Daddy gave me a nature book that's a book filled with pictures of nature stuff because it made me so bored I fell asleep," he explained. "Mommy, I don't like nature."
She chuckled. "And you saw the picture of the tree?"
"It was really pretty in the winter picture," he said. "And it was a human tree. It made me think of you."
She grinned and picked him up while she got off the ground. "Well, how about you go into the living room and play with some more toys while I finish making your dinner. Also, get your dad."
He nodded and she placed him back on the floor, though this time he was standing up on his feet. He ran into the living room while shouting for Keefe to go into the kitchen. He walked in slowly, confused. "Was I supposed to do dinner tonight?" He asked, frowning.
Sophie shook her head, holding up the homemade stew made from Calla's recipe. "No, it was my turn," she said, rolling her eyes. "Anyways, I want you to know that if this baby is a girl, then Kenric has a name for it that he really wants," she said, turning to look at him for a split second.
"What is it?" He asked curiously.
She smiled. "Rowan," she stated. "After the tree."
He frowned. "How did he find out about- Oh."
She rolled her eyes and moved over so she could slap him behind the head before going back to making dinner. "Why didn't you tell me you do that?" She questioned.
"It's like our father-son bonding time," he said. "No Mommy allowed."
"What?"
He rolled his eyes. "I knew that once you found out you'd want to watch," he started. "And, if it's like our father-son bonding time, then you can't watch because then he'll start talking to you."
She frowned. "That's totally true," she stated, not even bothering to lie. "Well, you could've just asked me not to watch. I'd be fine with that. It'd be nice to know my son has a head start on reading."
"He can't actually read," Keefe said. "He likes the pictures. The more boring the picture the faster he falls asleep."
"I THINK I BROKE MY TOY!" Kenric shouted from the living room.
Both of them sighed before Keefe was sent to go deal with Kenric in what they call 'monster mode'. Everyone joked he was a monster when it came to his toys and in that moment they were right. When Keefe finally fixed the toy, Kenric was already back to playing with his other ones. He looked up from his place. "Daddy, can I play with Iggy?"
"I don't think that's a great idea," he started. "Iggy is an actual living being."
"But I wanna play with him."
"Honey, you'd kill him. We don't want to kill him."
"Kenric," Sophie called from the kitchen, "you know Iggy is off limits until you're at least three."
"BUT I WANNA PLAY WITH IGGY!" He started to cry and Keefe rolled his eyes.
"No," he said.
"WHY NOT?"
"Because you'd kill him," Keefe stated patiently, trying to act like he couldn't even tell that he was crying.
Kenric started to bawl his eyes out. "I wouldn't kill him," he cried.
Sophie walked into the room and up to the table with two bowls and spoons. She looked at Kenric. "I won't feed you until you calm down," she said since doing that always worked when he cried.
Kenric immediately stopped bawling but he still sniffed a little. "Okay," he mumbled.
Sophie rolled her eyes before grabbing his food from the kitchen and bringing it to him. "Okay, how about we bring Iggy into the room? You can't 'play' with him but you can hold him," Sophie offered.
He frowned. "Okay."
She nodded. "Okay. But you have to eat your dinner first."
___
"I'm never having more kids," Sophie stated, laying down on Forkle's couch.
"Aren't you pregnant?" He questioned, frowning at her.
She rolled over in her seat so she could look at him. "After this one," she mumbled, pointing to her stomach. "After this one I'm never having anymore kids."
"What did the monster do this time?" Forkle asked, smiling.
"We let him hold Iggy and he basically strangled the poor animal," she said. "It took us forever to finally get him to let Iggy go."
"That's terrible. What did you guys do?"
"We threatened to throw away all his toys," she said. "I gave birth to a brat," she said.
"You know it's only when he's around his toys," Forkle reminded. "I've never seen him around toys before and if it wasn't the fact these stories come from the whole group that watches him, I would never guess he had a monster mode."
Sophie tried to shrug but the way she sat on the couch made it so she couldn't. Instead she sighed. "At least he isn't always on monster mode," she mumbled.
"Sophie, why are you over my house right now?" He asked.
"Because Adela is sleeping over our house tonight and Kenric is at his worse when Adela is with him because the only thing they can do together is play with his toys... and it's just terrible. I love my Goddaughter, I love my son... I just don't love them in the same room together." She closed her eyes. "Are you okay with me sleeping on your couch tonight?"
"Is that good for the baby?"
"Who cares. It's good for me and my brain right now. And it's good for my stress levels meaning it's good for the baby."
He shrugged and handed her a blanket and pillow. "Sure. Breakfast is at nine every morning."
She rolled her eyes. "I have to work tomorrow," she stated.
He nodded. "Well, my breakfast is still at nine. That means if you want breakfast you've got to go home."
___
"I hate you," Keefe stated when she walked through the door.
She looked at him, rolling her eyes. "I'm not even sorry," she stated honestly.
"You used to be a really good person," he stated mockingly. "It's like I don't even know you anymore."
"Oh shut up. Stress levels are high and that's not good for the baby," she said.
"Well, next time just crash upstairs," he said. "At least when that happens I will be forced to say no when both of them want to sleep in our bed because it's for two people and there's only me."
She laughed. "They said that?"
"Literally both of them got into monster mode and ordered me out of the room. Isn't she only two and he's one? Is that even... like, a thing?"
Sophie shrugged. "Well, I'm like... three months into the pregnancy so that means that he'll be three in around nine or ten months," she stated casually. Adela is going to be three soon."
Keefe shrugged. "Oh well. I already made breakfast and Fitz and Ashla already picked up Adela."
She nodded. "Is the monster still passed out on our bed?" She asked curiously. "Or did you give him breakfast."
"Breakfast and dropped him off at your parents' house," Keefe stated proudly. "I did everything by myself this morning. I feel proud."
She rolled her eyes and kissed his cheek quickly. "I'm going to go get changed and a bunch of other crap before I go and start work," she said. "Thanks for doing everything this morning." He waved her off but then she stopped in place. "Wait, why did you drop Kenric off at my parents' house? Where are you going today?" She frowned.
He laid down on the couch. "I'm taking a nap," he said, closing his eyes.
She rolled her eyes, knowing that she'd probably do the same thing, as she walked over to the stairs.
___
"You look worse than Edaline after Jolie died," Alden commented. "What's up?"
Sophie sighed. "Can you take Kenric tonight and babysit him? Like, have him sleep over and stuff?"
Alden stared at her cautiously. "I remember I asked if I could when he was smaller and you guys glared at me."
"He's having his terrible twos half way through his ones," she explained. "I think it's the fact he's always coped up in either our house or my parents'. Sometimes Forkle's. Coming here could be a change of scenery. He needs that."
Alden nodded. "Della and I would be happy to take him off your hands, Sophie," Alden said, smiling.
She smiled in relief. "Thank you so much. Is it okay if I drop him off in an hour?"
Alden nodded. "Of course."
She smiled at him in thanks as she left his office.
___
"We finally have the house to ourselves for the first time since he's born. What do you want to do?" Keefe asked.
She tilted her head and thought and after telling him they both agreed it's the best idea since sliced bread. They slept for twelve hours straight.
___
Lol short but not that much shorter chapter.
and what do you think of the name for a girl? What's a boy name you really want?
The gender is not definitely a girl but there is a 50% chance it will be. If not, it will be a boy.
sorry, again, for not updating yesterday. My Grandma still isn't here and won't be a few hours I think so that's why I was able to update. Now I've got to go to the book on my other account and update that. Y'all are lucky. I update this everyday and update that every four or five days... and that's pre-written xD
