Chapter Thirteen
a/n: Just one simple question: Did you see that plot twist from last chapter coming?
I didn't. I actually didn't mean to write it since I planned out something else but that just came out while typing and I was like "okay, subconscious, I don't see where we're going with this but if it's what you want I'll give it to you."

okay this is longer than usual so no complaints. Plus I'm supposed to be sleeping right now.
Amy's eyes widened. "What?"
A smile appeared on Sophie's face. "You know," she told her. "About us being sisters."
"But. . . We're not. I'm an only child. I'm pretty sure my mom and dad would tell me--"
"They don't remember either. I. . . Asked for them to make you guys forget me. You remember living different lives without me in them. I'm erased."
"But. . . How? That's not possible. My name would be Amy if it's true and my name is-"
"Natalie, yes. Remember a few weeks ago when I called you Amy by accident?" Sophie raised an eyebrow as Amy nodded. "That's because it's your real birth name. You are Amy Rose Foster."
"My last name is Freeman. . . "
"That's what you think. . . But. Ugh, I need to show it to you. Can I please enter your mind?" Sophie smiled softly. "It won't hurt, trust me. I do it with my friend Fitz all the time. Sometimes I do it with Keefe. . . Though that's weird because his mind isn't very comfortable like Fitz." She gave Keefe a small smile though he just rolled his eyes.
Amy stared at her. "Enter my mind?"
"I'm. . . Just say yes so I can help you understand what's going on. I'm about to transmit some of my memories into your mind and give you an idea of what's going on." Amy just nodded her head, not knowing what she was agreeing to.
Sophie put her fingers on Amy's temples and closed her eyes. "What are you doing?" Amy asked, frowning.
"Just let her do it," Keefe begged. "It only takes a few seconds and she has a lot of memories to transmit so she needs to concentrate. Even the most powerful mind in existence isn't completely perfect."
Amy gave him a weary look before turning to Sophie. All of a sudden images from Sophie's life from when she was born up until that moment flashed through her mind. She opened her eyes and they were wide. "I only had flashes of childhood but now I have it all," she said. "You. . . I hated you," she whispered to herself. She then stood up. "How could you rip my memories away from me?"
Sophie stood up as well. "I didn't do it-"
"YOU SENT OUT THE ORDER YOU TWAT!"
"Twat?" She frowned. "Never mind," she said, waving it off. "Listen. . . I couldn't let Mom or Dad think I was dead. It would crush them. Making you forget was easier and you guys have a better life this way together."
"Exactly. Our life was perfectly fine before you stepped back into it," Amy said, her voice laced with anger. Then she turned to Keefe. "I got a lot of her memories and a lot of them are focused on some other guy." She went to storm out of the house but Keefe stopped her by putting his hand on her arm.
"You're not angry," he stated.
She pulled back her arm and stared at him. "Excuse me?"
He tilted his head to the side. "Humans are different but emotions are emotions. You're not angry. You're hurt. . . And scared."
"Why are you scared?" Sophie asked, stepping up beside him.
"You don't know what I feel," she said, narrowing her eyes.
"Actually, he does," Sophie whispered. "It's his ability."
Amy stepped back in. "Right. . . Telepath. . . Inflictor. . . Polygot. . . Empath." She looked at him. "I thought the Empath she was so focused on was herself, not you."
Keefe smiled at Sophie before turning to look at Amy. "Foster's not cool enough to be en Empath."
Sophie shoved him playfully. "Not cool enough? The only reason our wedding had to be invite only was because everyone wanted to see me, not you."
"I don't know. . . I think we had a few Dame Alina impostors in the audience ready to wreck the wedding because you're not perfect for me and they are," he said with a light voice.
She rolled her eyes. "Please, more like. . . If she was a guy impostors. I've turned down more guys than you've turned down girls," she said.
"Really? I seem to recall that at midterms and finals stuff when people lines up there were more people putting stuff in my cap than people putting stuff in yours."
She scoffed. "Whatever, right now is the time to talk to Amy," she said. They both turned to look at Sophie's confused human sister.
"I. . . I'm still processing all these memories. You guys can continue," she said.
Sophie waved it off. "Just. . . You can't tell Mom and Dad," she instructed.
"I should just keep all my memories from our parents. Right." She scoffed.
"Human minds are very fragile. They break easily. Only difference is they're better at handling grief and guilt than Elves."
She nodded. "Right. . . Alden guy."
"Fitz's father. His mind broke from guilt. Humans' minds could break from something like this. Too much information at one point could ruin them. They need to figure it out on their own like you kind of did. They need to at least get the hints." Sophie nodded. "They're stubborn though."
Amy bit her lip. "At your. . . Welcome home party. . . Promise me something." Sophie nodded for her to go along. "I want you to have one of your friends bring your scrapbook. From our old life, I mean. I, uh, I want to see it. I'm remembering both sides of the story and I just want another thing to help me remember the real one, you know?"
Sophie nodded. "I understand. Well, it's late so we're going to go to bed. Stop by Forkle's and tell him that you know. Can you come here tomorrow?"
"I have a date with Cameron at six. Would you be fine with me coming during the day?"
Sophie nodded. "Yeah. What time?"
"How about twelve in the afternoon? We can go out for lunch."
"Uh. . . Is there any places around here with good vegetarian stuff?"
"Maybe we should go out for ice cream," she offered instead, smiling.
Sophie nodded in agreement. "Bye, Am- Natalie."
She went to leave but turned around. "It's fine if you call me Amy. I. . . I don't hate the name. Though Natalie sounds better, I don't hate it."

"Iggy is perfectly fine. Dex promised not to dye him again for a long time," Biana assured.
Sophie nodded. She heard a little crash in the kitchen and sighed. "I've got to go," she said.
"What's going on?" Biana asked.
"I gave Keefe directions to cook some human food and told him what everything is and everything because I wanted to see if he could do it and I'm pretty sure he just broke the kitchen."
Biana laughed. "I'll leave you to go fix that, then. Bye Sophie."
Sophie said a quick reply before turning the Imparter and turning to go into the kitchen. She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned against the doorway with a raised eyebrow when she saw Keefe cursing under his breath while picking up a bag of flour.
"It's not that hard, you know," she commented. He quickly turned to look at her and scowled.
"You," he said, pointing, "you did this to me!" He accused. "You made me into a house husband!"
She laughed and walked over. She helped him take some of the flour off the floor. "It's just a simple cookie recipe, Keefe. I wasn't asking you to solve world peace."
"Yeah, that's your job," he said, putting the bag on the counter and standing up. He gave her a hand to help her up and instead she pulled him to the ground, laughing.
"What was that for?" He asked, laying down looking up at her questioningly.
She put some flour on her finger and brushed it over his nose. "Because I saw it on tv once and thought it was romantic."
He took some flour and put tried to rub it all over her face. "So romantic," he sarcastically remarked, trying not to laugh as she wiped at her face.
"Keefe!" She shrieked, standing up. "My face is all covered. At least all I did was. . ." She trailed off her statement and a evil grin lit up on her face. She picked up the flour bag and dumped it all over his head.
"Hey! These are the only human clothes I actually really liked!" He shouted, laughing. He looked at her clothes and smiled. "Well, if my clothes get ruined your clothes get ruined too."
Her eyes widened and she instantly bolted. "Don't you dare!" She shouted when he chased her.
"Just give in already!" He shouted as she tried to see how she get passed him on the side of the couch.
"No! This is my favorite pair of jeans!" She shouted.
"I promise that'll I'll only get it on your shirt?" He tried. She just stared at him and he shrugged. "Worth a shot," he said.
She took in a deep breath. "Okay, just do it!" She shouted when she realized he'd catch her anyways. He grinned and ran up and hugged her, getting her blue shirt all white.
She let out a shout when she noticed some flour fell and got onto her jeans. "You are a dead man, Keefe Sencen!" She shouted.
He just laughed. "What are you going to do? Hug me so I get flour on me?" He laughed at her facial expression. She went to answer as the doorbell rang.
She frowned and moved to answer it. She opened it to reveal Mr. Forkle. He stared at the two in confusion. "Did something explode?" He asked, looking the two over.
"It looked romantic in the movies but in reality it's just a kitchen hazard and it's going to take forever to get everything out of my hair," she explained.
Mr. Forkle nodded. "Well, turns out you also left some of the human money at my house. You might need it. I had to light leap to leave, sadly."
She nodded. "Amy talked to you earlier, right?" He nodded in response. "Is it too soon?" She asked.
"I'm going to go ask Bronte and see what he thinks," he explained. "I'm not sure right now. This isn't really a Black Swan operation. I'm only doing this because they needed someone who could sneak into the human world, you, and they needed someone to watch over you. I stepped up when they said that because I was already living next door to them anyways."
She nodded. "What happens once Kate and Connor find out?" She asked. "How am I supposed to look at them, you know? I've moved onto new families and I have Edaline and Grady now. How do you think they will feel when they find that their daughter isn't their daughter anymore."
"Well, the same way you got over that your parents weren't your parents anymore."He nodded. "Plus, you'll be here forever. They won't. It's not them who have to learn how to live without you. You're going to have to learn how to live without them."
