Chapter Fourteen
a/n: Have any of you ever been in a flour fight like last chapter? (not romantically counts xD)
I got into a flour fight with my sister's best friend, Deryn, and my sister. My mom told me, my sister, and Deryn to make some cookies because we were bored and had nothing to do. Well my sister and Deryn took out the ingredients and I walked over and said I wanted to do something and me and Deryn started arguing over what to do and I noticed that some flour spilled on the ground and then Deryn took some of the flour and sprinkled it over my sister who took it back and sprinkled it over Deryn. I tried to get out of it but then Deryn took some flour and spilled it over me and then some over my sister again, and we attacked her with the flour after that. Then we started throwing flour everywhere in my kitchen and my mom came back and her reaction was hilarious.
"I'll be right back. I'll go grab us the ice cream," Sophie said. She turned to Amy. "Chocolate?"
Amy nodded. "How'd you--"
"Memories change, feelings don't. I know how you feel about chocolate ice cream," Sophie explained. She kissed Keefe's cheek. "I'll get you strawberry," she told him, standing up. "I'll be right back."
Keefe watched Sophie walk away before turning back to Amy. "So, was it hard not telling your parents?"
She nodded. "Yeah. It was even harder getting out of the house," she said. "I'm an adult now but because they still pay the bills and I still live with them, I have to stay under their rules. We usually all have lunch together on Mondays."
Keefe nodded in understanding. "Ah, that-"
"Natalie?" A girl came running over. "Oh my gosh, it's been so long!" The girl shouted, going in for a hug. She turned to Keefe. "Are you her boyfriend?"
Keefe shook his head. "No, I'm married."
"You're married?" The girl gasped in shock, looking at Natalie. "How long?"
Keefe laughed. "No, I'm married to her. . . Friend," he said. "She's getting ice cream right now." He said turning to the direction of where Sophie had walked away to see her walking over with three ice cream cones. She handed the one with strawberry to Keefe and then handed Amy the chocolate one.
"What did I miss?" She asked, looking at Keefe.
"This is my old best friend from high school, Courtney," Amy introduced. "This is my friend, Sophie, and her husband, Keefe," she then introduced to Courtney.
Courtney grinned. "Hi guys," she said, waving. She turned to Amy. "I heard from Thomas you have a boyfriend, though," she said.
"I do, his name's Cameron. I have a date with him tonight actually," she said.
Courtney nodded, grinning. "Oh, and happy birthday!"
Amy grinned. "Thanks, Court. We should catch up later! What's your number?" The two exchanged and then Courtney walked away. Amy sighed. "I'm never going to talk to that girl again in my life."
Sophie nodded. "So, do you have any questions for us?" She asked, smiling carefully.
"Just. . . Was our family happy before? I feel it but I also feel like I was a witness, not someone who actually went through it." She swallowed. "Were we happy? That's my question."
Sophie smiled softly. "We were. . . A family. We loved each other. At times we weren't happy with each other and got into fights but all in all our family as a whole was happy," she answered.
Amy nodded. "Then why did you leave?"
Tears filled Sophie's eyes and she let out a shaky breath. "I. . . I was happy but I didn't belong," she tried to explain.
"I don't understand? What's wrong with not belonging? I don't belong in online college courses but I'm taking them anyways. I probably don't belong with Cameron but he makes me happy so I'm still with him. You didn't belong with us but you were happy."
Sophie resisted the urge to bite her lip. "It's not. . . You can't use those comparisons. It's not like that. You can't. . . You can't understand. Sometimes no matter how happy you are doing something you have to sacrifice that happiness for something better that you might love more." She took Keefe's hand and gave him a loving smile. He smiled back at her.
"But. . . I can't. . . Why weren't we good enough for you?" Amy bit her lip and tried not to cry.
"You guys were too good for me," Sophie said. "You guys were perfect and I wasn't."
"Perfect? I got your side of these memories. You thought I was terrible." She shook her head.
"I didn't give you my deepest memory of you guys. The one where it shows how I remember you," Sophie muttered. "I can show you how I remember you," she offered.
Amy shrugged. "This might be fun."
Sophie looked her in the eyes and transmitted the memory she hadn't shared with anyone, not even Fitz when he entered her mind. She hadn't even told Keefe about the memory.
Amy's eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "Oh. . . I remember that one," she said.
Sophie smiled. "It's how I remember you guys. You were all flawless."
"But. . . I still don't understand why you had to leave. Why they made you leave." She glared at Keefe.
"I had to learn more about my origin and my learn to control my ability. I mean, in the end it works out. I get to be with you guys once more and I got to meet the love of my life." She looked at Keefe who grinned at her.
Amy took a quick bite of her ice cream. "It's just going to take a while for me to really get over it."
Sophie nodded. "I understand."
___
"We have one more day before they all come over Forkle's for the coming home party and then we can go back to our house," Keefe reminded her. "What do you want to do?"
She shrugged before wrapping her arms around his neck and hugged him. "What do you want to do?" She asked. "We've been going off what I want to do all this time."
He shrugged, smiling at her. "Well, what did you do for fun when you used to live here?" He asked.
She shrugged. "I did school work," she answered truthfully.
He gasped mockingly. "Oh no, I married a nerd."
She let out a laugh and shoved him. "That would make a really good title for a really cheesy teen fiction book," she said, giggling.
He laughed. "We should write the book and make it as cliche as possible. The characters could be named after us!"
She grinned. "We'll have to add our friends," she said.
He nodded, sitting down. "We need to write this. Do you have a notebook?"
She nodded and walked over to a shelf and grabbed a notebook. She opened it and made sure there was no writing in it. "Okay, let's write," she said, sitting down at the table. He sat down with her and took out a pen. They started to write funny plot ideas and he tried to pick names for every character and their part in the story.
"Obviously I'm the main character, the mysterious bad boy. This is set in college of course, so getting married is a thing," he explained, writing it down. "Sophie Foster, who will eventually be Sophie Sencen as in real life, will be the nerd. I'm going to draw us out. I'll even give you some cute glasses," he said. He poked her nose playfully and she scrunched her face up.
"Okay, and extra characters?"
"Well, obviously Fitz is the best friend who's even more bad than me. The bad boy always has the even more bad boy best friend," he said, writing it down. "Ashla has to be your best friend so she can end up with my best friend," he explained.
"What about Biana and Dex?" Sophie asked, leaning forward in her seat. "Ooh, and don't you dare forget Marella and Jensi. You can only do that once and that's it."
He nodded, and started thinking. "Marella will be the popular girl who is seriously in love with the mysterious bad boy, aka me. Her popular boyfriend, Dex, is secretly in love with the even more bad boy's younger sister, Biana. They're having a secretly affair. Jensi is the lame nerd boy in your friend group with Ashla. . . Because almost every friend group has the two or three girls and one boy." He nodded to himself.
Sophie held back from laughing. "You know a lot about chick-lit stuff," Sophie acknowledged. "It's. . . Cute."
He rolled his eyes. "I've read a lot of the books in your book shelf. I spend most of my time while reading them pointing out all the cliches stuff. I have it all stored in my mind."
She nodded. "Yeah, I understand. I can't help but love them anyways." She let our an awkward cough. "So, what next?"
"Well, we need to actually plan out the book," he said, frowning at the paper. He looked back at her. "Or we can add all our parental figures as the teachers and see how it works out."
She grinned. "The second option seems fun."
