Coming back to her senses, Gitanjali opened her eyes smoothly and slowly, immediately got acquainted to dimmed light of the dwelling place where she resided. Sound of gushing waves hit her ear; she slowly walked near window to check what exactly that was? Pushing the silk material aside, she looked down only to be dazed in astonishment.
The shimmering light blue water reflecting Crescent moon filled with starry sky, those white unicorns stood near river bank looking at water , with few humanoid structures roaming from one to other side just like sentry's. Flower shrubs were covering almost the river bank in various colors and could enchant others with its sweet fragrances. The all atmosphere looked like a fairy land to her, like she saw in movies or painting. She didn't even blink her eyes with fear if all those were vanished once she shut her eyes.
"you are up. Thank lord, I am relieved. That's quite long hours for someone to lost her sense. At least for me its first time to witness such." Gitanjali's trance broke hearing another voice in her room, an extremely beautiful lady with a pleasant yet mysterious smile adorned on her face stood at door step.
And looking down again, at unicorns she sighed.
"I am still at Meluha? When this dream will be end? My mama must be worrying a lot for me. "Gitanjali mumbled to herself more than speaking to other one.
"Until and unless you finish what you are meant for?" The lady said as mysterious as she seemed.
"The Indus River is more beautiful than what I read and saw!" Gitanjali said still in awe fixing her gaze to that beautiful scenery outside.
"Its holy Sarasvati River. Indus is at other side of city." An instant reply came to her unasked cue.
"Who are you? Where is Shiv, who escorted me here?" Gitanjali asked not seeing Shiv around from the moment she got back her sense.
"I am Mohini." She clearly avoided topic related to shiv. "I am here to take care of you, lady."
"what? Mohini, the wife of first Rudra god?" Gitanjali jumped literally in excitement remembering Shiva trilogy Again.
Mohini chuckled at her childlike nature. Then she spoke , "I am a human , not any goddess or any of supernatural being as you imagine wildly."
"But I read....." Before she could proceed Mohini interrupted her.
"Do you ever hear about land of Dilmun or Magan? And about Mesopotamia?" Mohini asked looking outside but in a thoughtful manner.
"Yes. Are they too real, no?" Gitanjali was too excited that she had no idea what she was blabbing of.
"You must know we Meluha people have a good trade relation with Mesopotamia. In fact trading is our supreme occupation to enhance our economy. If any conflicts happen regarding this matter, we will be indirectly go downward." Mohini said with very seriousness which contradicted her unearthly beauty.
"Why are you saying those to me?" Gitanjali scrunched her nose being little annoyed with the unwanted information she was getting at most unexpected time.
"It's needed." Mohini again gave her million dollar mysterious smile.
Someone knocked door and Mohini went out to talk with the intruder. After few minutes when she came back, she seemed tensed. She shot a stare toward Gitanjali, before lost in her own world. Gitanjali just looked at her perplexed with her sudden change of behavior. Her credulous mind began to think possibilities of what could have happened, even unaware of the situation?
Few hours passed and Gitanjali didn't know when her eyes caught sleep again. The soft rays of rising sun felt her so different from her own modern land. Not finding Mohini or anyone, she walked out of room to see around. Shock was an understatement what she viewed once getting out of room. Staying in a three stored building with lavishing furniture and wall carvings with pride figurines. Every material screamed comfort and luxury in that house. She only knew that Meluha or Indusvalley was an Urban civilization; but never did imagine it was more beautiful and luxurious than what they all taught in modern land of 21st century.
"You up. Have this." Mohini offered a glass of medicinal potion to Gitanjali considering her health from previous day.
In return Gitanjali only stared at her as if she was hesitating to consume that drink.
"This is not poison." Mohini said with the same smile.
"Oh dear! I was thinking if it was somaras?" Gitanjali asked still in her mind wandering around her favorite book.
"I don't know from where you got such tremendous ideas which we never heard of." This time Mohini laughed aloud instead of smiling, an open hearted laugh which made Gitanjali face fell off in return.
"I don't think I cracked some joke on which you are beaming like a clown." Gitanjali retorted being irked with Mohini's laugh making a clown face literally.
"Oh! Dear you just did." Mohini's said in between her laughter and continued, "from the moment I saw you at citadel hall, I felt you are quite an interestingly funny character. "
"What?" Gitanjali almost shouted being considered as some mere clown. In her world everyone considered her as sensible and mature person while Mohini was making fun of her. In a way it was her fault, being deeply involved with that book that she forgot she was in real Meluha land where she should observe and watch out things as it seems ; not by her wild imagination through book.
"Then what's this?" After calming down her nerves she again asked pointing at the potion.
"An herbal tonic which will give you energy as you fainted earlier, remember." Mohini's replied casually.
"Oh!" Now Gitanjali really found herself being stupid on her thoughts which were running rocket speed few seconds ago. Gulping down the potion, feeling kind of new energy inside her, Keeping aside the bowl she again asked, " so, what now? Where is that shiv guy?"
The way Gitanjali addressed Shiv, Mohini's didn't like it surely, which could visible from her posture and the glance she shot toward Gitanjali.
"I am too waiting for his news." The short reply came soon as her gesture become little nervous filled with something which pricked her.
Right then someone knocked the door and the news they got , took out all sense out of them.
"Are you sure about this?" Mohini's repeated.
"Yes. I saw him with my own eyes in that Mound of death."
"How could they do it?" Mohini's frustrated sigh and anger filled breathe came at once.
"Okay, you can go." Mohini's sent the messenger out and looked at Gitanjali with hopefulness, " you have to help us. Shiv's in danger." Her voice sounded kind of pleading.
"Yeeessss. But what's the matter?"Gitanjali replied in trance.
"Shiv was in custody of judiciary for charge of killing the granary store keeper who was a noble merchant from Mesopotamia. It is a rule here to keep a store keeper of the same land from where the merchandise are coming until we receive it fully with our barter system and account list should be maintained with transparency . I am afraid if they will give him a death sentence." Mohini completed in one breathe.
"w-h-a-t?" Gitanjali stammered. Soon enough she composed herself, "but why? I mean is there any proof?" She asked remembering Shiv's brightening face, which showed his loyalty and honesty toward his land. May be as a lawyer or as a sensible mature girl from her childhood, she never been wrong about studying a person, which ability even helping her in her professional work in recent days. Her heart filled with empathy.
" Please explain fully, so that I can able to help you." Gita asked in her usual professional ways; but in more decent manner. She could see the hesitation and worried lines on Mohini's face. After a moment her frowns cleared though as well she was ready to speak.
"It is a landlocked myth mystery which I am going to share with you. Please keep it with you only." The suspense which was built by Mohini before saying anything made Gitanjali fume.
"Geez... Lady just spit the fact so that I can do something." Gitanjali was annoyed.
'After that I think I can able to return too.' She thought remembering one line from the mysterious Palm leaflet which was the sole reason for her to be at Meluha land. It's not that she was not happy to saw Meluha with her own eyes, but she wanted to enjoy it without any scrap. 'The designated and destined task should be completed if you wish to be on your original place.' She understood the meaning after being thrown into a task. How come she behaved as fool? She was in her thoughts until Mohini snapped her out of her oh-so-great thoughts.
"In our land it's believed that the Pashupata seal and Marduk's Dragon seal together can give formulae of immortality. Its hidden in those seals and only wise can unlock it." Mohini aforementioned in awe.
"Marduk's dragon seal?" Gita questioned.
"It's believed to be Mesopotamia's god's seal."
"But what it does have to do with Shiv? And why he was being framed as you say?" Gita didn't clear the things as she was not sure of anything happening in Meluha.
"because Shiv was the one who decoded Pashupat Seal not a long before; but he denied to share it with some high class nobles as they seemed not honest with their point of humanitarian work or that he thought. And maybe you can say it was coincident or luck or vicious plan, the merchant who was killed had the Dragon seal; for which he even invited Shiv to take a look at it. Yesterday after you fainted, Shiv let you rest here in his house and told me to watch you over and let you go once you woke up. He also said he was going to meet that merchant and Dragon seal at that time. And rest you know." Mohini ended her part of fact narration.
"We are missing something." Gitanjali mumbled in very unusual slow tone.
"But what? That's I also want to find. If before next sunrise we don't have evidence, may be...." Mohini couldn't say more as she didn't want to even imagine those cruelties in her wildest imagination.
"We will surely find a way. Don't worry." Gita consoled the lady who seemed so strong before, all vulnerable immediately. She noted that Mohini cared for her loved one a lot but what exactly was Shiv to her? Husband or boyfriend? No...no...she didn't want to think that way.
They kept trying to find out ways to find evidence for Shiv; but alas! It was all in vein. They went to ask granary store guards, asked random people about that night, questioned the people lived near store. Soon evening approached still they had no cues how to rescue Shiv. Finally they decided after the evening star rose that they should part their ways and found ways differently. Mohini headed toward the Mound of dead in hope if Shiv's talk could give them some hope; where as Gitanjali went back to Granary store again with the hope to find some clue surely.
Soon blanket of darkness came hovering over land of Meluha. Gitanjali was trying to make a healthy conversation or tried to make the woman in front of her to say something, anything as she was on her monologue from few moments. She noted the particular woman sat under a Mango tree near granary store from the time she saw her. She patted herself mentally on her observatory skill; but the lady seemed to be idol sat on looking toward store like something precious she lost there.
"look, goddess mother" then Gitanjali touched her feet , tried to lure her thinking She might budge on her admirations which definitely didn't work. She thought might be the lady was deaf and dumb, Being irritated she banged her fist on mango tree trunk.
"Damn, how can I save Shiv now." She whisper yelled. And strangely it worked on the lady who sat unaffected like the great Himalayan.
"You said Shiv?"the lady asked while Gita looked at her shockingly.
"No I said Parvati." Gita mocked back being pissed. " why you are not opening your mouth when you can speak?"
The lady didn't say anything but only smiled, mysteriously like Mohini did first when she met her. 'What's with this land ladies, smiling without any reason may consider as beauty here?' She thought.
Before she could ask anything, the lady stood up to go but said, " if you want to know why mangoes of this tree tastes sweeter than any other, find out the source of mineral from where its root intake those." Gitanjali looked at her in wonder; thinking might be one insane she met in Meluha. But she must know her name to say in other world.
"what's your name?"
"Kali." Lady replied without hesitation and smiled again as if she read her thoughts.
"Kali...Kali...Kali?" she repeated being awed of fact which she shouldn't have, " then where is Sati?"
"just keep in mind what I told!" Kali told while beating twice the mango tree root twice, before made her exit as mysteriously as she appeared.
After getting back her composure she mumbled, "What the hell? Weird woman. In fact everything is weird here."
But in her subconscious she knew no one blabber words like air on land of Meluha. Even if Kali said that line it should be laid behind it; even she beat the largest root twice. After exactly observing the tree multiple time, she found a kind of crack on tree root where Kali beaten. When she tried to make it wider, it become easily as if it was being used all often. An arch shaped entrance way paved to deep down underground. She groaned, " what's with me and these mango tree arch."
Next morning people gathered at Mound of Death. All thought prevailed differently what they were being shown. Shiv declared with high head, with his all pride in front of all justice benches consists of high class nobles, head of the towns, the priest and representative of people, "I didn't commit any treason. The valor will be mine if I am on correct path, or I will be subdued by death if I was wrong."
"You are already proved wrong, dear boy, if you forget in any case. You were trying to get dragon seal information, upon denying you killed the poor man. Just because you decoded Pashupat seal you thought by doing this you will become immortal and took charge over the world?" the head priest accused Shiv.
"People have tendency to think about others like they thought of oneself. It shows you neither have a pure heart to be on such position." Shiv retorted all smiling.
"Death is knocking your door, still this much pride. Mother Nature won't tolerate this. You will be punished for what you chosen for yourself." The priest replied.
Some noble and representative of people didn't feel good about it, they felt something was wrong there, but what matters evidence as Shiv was only one present in Granary store while merchant was killed, and many were to support the fact. The tensions and thoughts were broken hearing one loud voice. Mohini and Shiv looked at Gitanjali who ascended steps like victory was hers.
"You are right, oh my dearest lord. Mother Nature won't tolerate this who tried to imbalance her composition and power. And that is not Shiv, obviously." Now all attention went to Gitanjali while the priest was glaring her.
"And may I know who are you?"
"Not good for your health to know, considering your age." Gitanjali replied with a mocking smile pulling priest's moustache.
"Watch your little smart mouth lady." The priest warned.
"And you should watch out yourself." By saying those Gitanjali pulled the pouch tied around priest's waist as he was too enraged with her bold talks his mind was not clear. He was starting to sweat for some unknown reasons.
"Give me back my pouch." With that he was going to snatch it from Gita stopped by a furious Mohini in mid.
"Father, don't even dare now? How could you betray our own land being a priest? Its such auspicious position people gave you in belief that you will take care them but?" Mohini couldn't complete and stood hanging low her head in shame for her father created.
Gitanjali opened the pouch as hurriedly she could and took out both the Pashupat seal and Dragon seal; upon seeing both of those people were started whispering among themselves. The head stood up and seek an explanation from the priest.
"He doesn't believe our political orientation and involvement of all people are equal theory. By acting as mediator between God and human; he himself thought to be God of us and wished to be immortal and took control over us by creating a monarchy like in other civilization." Shiv explained things one by one. "And that's why I didn't tell him the decoded information of Pashupat seal." He completed the sentence.
"And that merchant who was killed is banished for being a traitor to Mesopotamia. And they both teamed up to create blunders." Gitanjali added.
"So what? You are the mere humans who can't stop me. You are destined to be slaves of me. God is with me and I got what I want." The priest gave out his evil laugh like mad man.
"Guards seize him." One of the noble ordered.
"Not so soon." He threw some poisonous powder in air which would create eye shore if you opened it and eventually losing its sight. He chanted the information he got from seal with the help of Mesopotamia trader, thinking he would become immortal by end of chant and punish all those who tried to defame him.
"Auch!! You have fake seals old man." Gitanjali spoke the priest who was now in captivity of guards still chanting as if it would help.
"You! I won't leave you. Take my words."
"Okay, I am taking . See you never. Bye bye." Gitanjali replied being dramatic like her own world.
In afternoon when everything was settled, all three seated taking the same herbal potion at some market place ;Mohini asked Gita, " How you get to know all things?"
"on the blessings of Kali maata." Gitanjali replied in her dramatic style holding palms together and touched it on her forehead, remembering the Woman's audacity of not opening her mouth.
"Kali really does solution to my each problem." Shiv said in a contented smile. "But how? I mean she never tell things straight."
" Oh yeah! At first I thought her to be lost her mind in deep river of Sarasvati. But then I tried to decipher what she told. Being followed her words I went inside that tunnel arc under that mango tree which ended up at granary store backward room. It was a secret room to observe may be. I saw that priest there with few other people discussing about their heinous acts they committed and going to commit. But no matter what we cannot defame him without any solid evidence. Your land people trusted him way too much and he was taking advantage of that. Then strikes my brain what if I show his truth by exposing seals are with him always as I already saw he doesn't believe anyone with that seal matter and keep it with him always. So that instant idea came and rest you know." Gitanjali finished her little speech at once.
"Thank you. I must repay your kindness lady and I will." Shiv promised.
"I am feeling terrible that I am his daughter." Mohini told all broken up.
"oh! You shouldn't have. Trust me you are a nice person." Gita assured.
"I know." Mohini's reply made both of them smile.
Before anything unknown to the upcoming set up much before by the priest, some goons attacked them which made them run out for life. Without knowing they were running to the direction of citadel in which Gitanjali first stepped on Meluha land. After crossing the steps in lightens speed, she tripped over and fell on ground kissing the ground losing her sense. Before she lost it completely she could only heard Shiv and Moving saying, "Run Gitanjali run."
************
Gitanjali jerked up feeling a splash of cold water on her face. Opening her eyes she got only shocked to see her mother's worried face. She looked around after jumping from her bed mumbling, " where are they?"
"Who?" Her mother asked. Was she dreaming all the time? Then why her body felt such exhaustion?
Without replying anything she ran out toward their backyard to the monumental mango tree. Not finding any arc hole, she felt frustrated and depressed for first time. 'Was that all a dream only?'
Her mother was all perplexed on her daughter's sudden absurd behavior. Again running inside house she found the Palm leaf book, but not showing any mysterious riddle about Mango tree or Meluha. She sighed thinking it as dream.
"What happened dear? Did you see really a horrible nightmare?" Her mother asked concerned.
"Not really Mama. I am confused."
Her mother gave Gitanjali some official letter she received early morning, her new appointment letter. She got ready with a heavy heart thinking constantly about "what just happened was a mere dream or reality?"
After reaching the venue , reading the name of authority on metal plate her all gloominess went away in nano second. She couldn't believe her eyes she got chance to work with S.S. Kumar, the famous top class lawyer. She thanked her stars when she applied for post, she never knew she would be accepted.
Asking the receptionist she went inside taking her careful steps. The office chamber of her dream idol man seemed so classy and elegance, filled with antiques and some ancient items brought in an auction. She never had the liberty to see SS Kumar in her own eyes, not even in TV. Her heart was pounded fast with excitement when her eyes fell on two big wall hangings of Pasupat Seal what we called today Proto Shiva seal and Marduk's Dragon seal. She was in trance heard a sweet voice, " Miss Gitanjali Rao."
"yes." Gita turned toward the source of voice, an extremely beautiful elegant lady she could say only from her posture was busy in checking her system. A name plate written as personal assistant there.
"sir is inside, you go and meet him." Still she was not able to see the lady.
Gita went inside to see the great lawyer SS Kumar was looking at some quotations hanging on wall. Upon getting a little closer she was hell shocked as the quotation was all about finding immortality. Just then he turned making her mind went numb only, as he looked over her shoulder to someone and said all smiling, ' immortality sometimes can be a blessing, Right dear.'
The lady behind her laughed who she felt heard before as Gita turned and only uttered in shock, "Shiv, Mohini." As she felt nauseous again thinking about Meluha; if it was a dream or reality. Before she fell down both Shiv and Mohini rushed to help her.
The hereditary mysterious palm leaf book part which was blanked again reappear with few words "some debt to be paid off. Immortality is all what you decided to choose. Meluha was a dream and a reality too. Choose wisely what you want to choose."
