"I'm sorry, but my mom always taught me not to accept random blood from strangers."

Okay, here's the thing... I always knew Courtney Swan was different.

We're talking about the girl who jumped out of her bedroom window and escaped injury. The girl who tried to beat someone with a baseball-bat because he made fun of my sexuality. The girl who trained herself to write with her right hand because she wanted to be the very best at something.

But the vampire thing kinda messed with my brain.

Sure, we texted back and forth the year she moved, but I still felt alone. I mean, I had to beat up homo-phobes by myself... my mom got pregnant, later giving birth to my knew little sister who I will never truly know, and my brother. Nate. He was the best little brother ever. Annoying, but he was there for me.

I just wanted to take a vacation.

That was all I wanted to do. I wanted to see my best friend and her slightly annoying big sister.

Instead, as soon as I stepped out, a freezing cold hand grabbed my arm, and seemingly seconds later, we were in the elevator. Everything after that was a blur. He told me some things about Bella and Courtney, and some stuff about a girl named Alice, but I could barely hear. All I could focus on were his eyes. Bright red eyes that seemed to want to devour me whole.

He took me to some sort of dance theater, Bella came in, he grabbed us, blah blah blah... Courtney came in, Blah blah blah... I was pretty freaked. He let go of us, I grabbed onto her arm and kept whispering 'what the hell?' over and over again, but I didn't think she heard me.

She stabbed him, and everything went black.

When I woke up, my head was pounding, but I was aware. First, some big guy ran in and attacked the red-eyed guy. Next was a blond guy, who walked in, froze and screwed his face up like he was in pain, and then ran to Courtney, who was laying motionless on the floor, bleeding so much it made my head whirl.

"Courtney?" My voice was weak when I spoke, weak and wobbly. My head hurt like I had a very bad hangover.

Another blond ran over to Courtney, a brunette woman and a guy with caramel hair ran over to Bella. Finally, a small, dark-haired girl walked in, and immediately turned to me.

"Hello." Her voice was light, and she knelt down next to me. I could feel myself blush, even if this was the worst possible time. I have a thing for short girls, don't ask why.

"Hi." I managed, immediately wincing at the shot of pain that echoed around in my skull.

 "My name is Alice."

 "Uh, I'm Sadie."

That was how my life literally got "flipped, turned upside down." I moved to Forks, Alice and I started dating almost right after. The first time she kissed me was the first time I went to her house. I started blabbing on about some sort of art thing, and she kissed me to shut me off. I was a little offended, but still, the best day of my life.

 Then she left.

I was broken, sure, all things are broken without their second half, Courtney and Bella understood that better than anyone. Bella went comatose, Courtney tried her best to act normal, which I admire, but I could tell she had so much emotion trapped inside that she refused to let out. She was close to the entire family. Bella was only close to Edward, but she was the most broken from all of us. Externally, which made me resent her.

They came back, and I got fuckin' kidnapped.

A nice night, so I took a goddamn walk. Of course, nothing in my fucking life can be simple, so I got grabbed by some dude right as I was turning a corner.

And then it was all just pain.

Pain, pain that ran through my veins, alighting my blood. It was terrible, terrible like I was going through surgery but was wide awake.

I woke up as a different person.

No, not a person. The biggest difference was that I was super hot, and then there was the skin, ice cold, pale as snow, and the eyes, blood red.

 And the thirst.

I clawed at my throat, wondering why I my throat was so dry. It hurt almost as much as the pain stage. A guy offered me a cup of something that smelled delicious... so I took it.

It was blood. I drank human blood.

I discovered I could change what I looked like by picturing something in my mind, and feeling it paint across my face. then there was training. Training like we were going to war.

I was scared, I stopped questioning after the thirst got to be so much.

 It was horrible.

We went to fight, and then I was tied to a tree, fire near my face, Alice staring out me with nothing but fear on her beautiful face.

 Animal blood.

And then it all melted back to normal. Not normal, different. But... good, I guess. Real, with the Cullen's as my new family.

I want my old family, though.

"Hey." Alice waved her hand in front of my face. It was the day of Bella's wedding, and my girlfriend was in total psycho-mode. "Are you okay? We're going now."

Suddenly, my only worry was how dumb I would look walking next to Alice, the graceful, fairy-like, beautiful, Alice.

Instead of speaking, I smile and kiss her cheek. "I've never been better."

A/N: Hope this clears some stuff up!

(Also, take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous this girl is:)
