55- Justification
"Everything is theoretically impossible until it is done."

Instead of helping me up, a variety of people just stared at me from above the bed, like I was some super interesting zoo animal. The first thing that I noticed was that my eyesight was better, but not in the way I imagined it to be, just like edges were sharper, curves were softer.
And I couldn't feel pain. No pain came from my neck, and when I looked down at my skin, I saw that it was as pale as the Cullen's, but it felt softer, more real.
"What the actual hell." Muttered, taking into account how weird my voice sounded. Not different really, just... smoother. "Am I in hell? Did I die?"
There was a moment of confused silence, until it was broken by everyone beginning to talk at once, and Jasper drop to his knees at a speed I shouldn't have been able to follow, wrapping his arms around and hugging me so tight it should have been like, fatal. I took a second for my new mind to process everything, before I exhaled in relief and hugged him back.
We didn't pull away for what felt like an eternity, but I didn't want too. I wanted tp stay like this, relishing in my being alive, I don't want to face the harsh reality of his world.
"I thought I lost you." He whispered, his voice quiet, but it sounded like he was speaking normally. "I thought you were dead."
"Hey," I pulled away so I could use my newfound sight to drink in the sight of his face, only now noticing a little scar just above his left eyebrow. "If you thought you were getting rid of me that easy, you're sadly mistaken."
He leaned in, and pressed his lips to mine. It felt like our first kiss all over again, the same giddy feeling in the stomach, the same way my heart skipped a beat-
Wait, what?
I gasped, a sharp pain running up my chest for only a split second. Followed by a warm heat that wasn't there before. Jasper's eyebrows furrowed, and I sucked in a breath, holding a pale hand to my now-beating heart.
"Just as I thought." I looked up to see Carlisle's face staring down at me with furrowed eyebrows. "Courtney, may I speak with you a second."
"Hold on, man." Sadie defended, and together, her and Alice pushed Jasper aside, helping me to my feet and embracing me together. "Thank the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen." Sadie muttered, and Alice stood up to kiss both of my cheeks. "I am so glad you are okay, Court."
I wasn't exactly sure what to say, as I had roughly zero clue what happened while I was out. "Yeah, it's good to be back."
Before anyone could say anything else, Emmett bounded forward like the big puppy dog he was, scooping me up in his arms like I weighed nothing. A laugh escaped my throat, and I fought the urge to slap a hand over my mouth at the weird way it sounded.
"Hey Cordie, lookin' hot."
"Feelin' weird." I looked around, at my hands, that seemed to be dusting pink again, and a piece of my hair, which thankfully, looked the exact same. "What's going on?"
Carlisle gestured for me to take a seat at the edge of the bed, and I complied, Jasper immediately jumping to my side, holding me tight like he was afraid I would disappear.
"This is something I have never seen before." Carlisle began, which I feel like should've been a little more shocking to me. No, by now I was used to weird things happening to me, but it has never been like this... never like this. "You were only under for a day for one, which usually takes three days approximately. And your heart started beating after you woke. Now, tell me what you felt when you were asleep."
"Uh... it hurt a lot." I admitted, biting my lip softly and feeling Jasper's breath hitch. "I mean, like... fire I guess. I just kinda, tuned it out to the best of my abilities."
"Tuned it out?" Carlisle eyebrow shot up, looking like he desperately wanted to scribble that down on a piece of paper. "You could do that?"
"Well, sort of... it's, it's hard to explain."
"I understand." He patted my hand comfortably, "now, it seems like you woke up full... vampire." He hesitated, "but, then your body seemed to be... resisting the venom. Like your strength was pushing it away. I have many theories about why this may be happening, one of which involves your genes. Since Bella was the one who bit you-"
Jasper's arm tightened around my arm, and his teeth clenched dangerously tight.
"-I think it has to do with the cells in your blood, versus Bella's newfound venom. Now, you were both born with a gene mutation that gives you your abilities. For you it has an effect kind of like-" he clicked his tongue, "uh, steroids. This gene gets into your bloodstream, enhancing the muscle control, except it is nothing like steroids, because what your gene seems to do is take away the signal your brain sends to your body to slow down. Humans have exceptional strength, but can't use it without damaging a different part of your body, therefore, your brain doesn't send that signal to your nerves, but instead, sends the signal to the rest of your muscles to not strain, as they would get injured. So when the venom entered your bloodstream, the pain was holding you back from restraining it, but when the pain wore off, your brain could tell the rest of your body to expel the venom from your bloodstream, but since there is technically no way to drain your blood, unless through a needle, your skin will slowly heat up, but still be cooler than regular temperature, and your blood would be something of a eighty percent venom, twenty percent human blood."
We all stared at the doctor with blank faces, trying to keep up with that newfound, very complicated information. Finally, I cleared my head enough to speak, "can I get some water?"
"Sure." Carlisle turned around, filling a small cup with the clear liquid, and looking way to expectant as he handed it to me. I took a sip, and immediately opened my mouth and emotionlessly let it fall down my chin.
"What the fuck was that?" I asked, cringing at the sour, foul flavor, and wiping my face on my sleeve. "Are you trying to poison me? Is this the test to see if I can die?"
A small smile tugged at the doctors face, as he took the cup from my heart. "No, that was just water."
"Looks like you're gonna have to find other ways to quench your thirst."
I looked around the room, grimacing as the meaning of his words. "You're not serious?"
***
He was serious.
And I didn't like it.
Crouched up in a tree, I held my breath and tried to ignore that my heart was still beating. Jasper was next to me, so I turned to him as asked the question I have been dying to know.
"What color are my eyes?"
Jasper looked over at me, a small smile playing on his lips. "Beautiful."
I felt like I should have blushed, but my face remained stubbornly chilly, "shut it, Hale, what color are my eyes?"
Jasper chuckled, never taking his eyes off of my face. "Red."
I nodded, looking back at the ground. It was the answer I was expecting, but I still felt a small pang of disappointment hearing it. How am I supposed to say goodbye with bright red eyes?
"Hey," Jasper's hand engulfed mine, his eyes as soft as his tone. "As I said, beautiful."
I grinned, still feeling like I would explode if I didn't blush, and squeezed his hand. "I love you."
"I love you more." He smiled, "now it is time for a lesson in hunting."
And before I could react, he reached forward and pushed me out of the tree. I yelped, hitting the ground with a hard thud, although not feeling any pain. My husband was cackling from the tree, but I didn't have time to reprimand him, as I was too busy wrestling with a mountain lion.
I have never actually done anything like this before, but I felt stronger than I ever had before. The large beast was pressing down on my chest, it's claws slashing uselessly against my skin. could feel the skin break, but with it came no pain, and the cuts seemed to heal themselves seconds later. I trashed around, smacking the lion in the face when it tried to bite me, and pushed upward, flipping around so I could stand up. I darted away with a speed I have never had before, spinning around and narrowing my eyes at the slightly terrifying beast.
I think I was more terrifying though.
"Oh I am so back." I smirked, cracking my knuckles and grinning at the lion right before it pounced.
I twisted to the side, managing to grab the back of it's neck and swinging my legs over so I was on it's back. I could still hear Jasper laughing, obviously not too worried about my well-being, as he was still in the tree. The lion roared, so I growled back, tightening my legs around it's middle, until a crack was heard, and it fell to the ground.
I didn't exactly know what to do next, but the itching thirst in the back of my throat, and aimed for the vein in the back of it's neck.
The first thing I noticed was that it didn't taste like blood.
Weird, I know. I was technically drinking blood. It tasted kind of... sweet. Like a pretzel almost, but not at all like a pretzel. There was no real way to describe it, and as fast as it began, it stopped, and I withdrew my head.
The thirst seemed to have completely disappeared, like I just chugged a bottle of water, and took a second to catch my breath, before turning to the lion carcass and sticking my middle finger up at the carcass. "Asshole."
I turned up to gaze at the tree, where Jasper was still sitting. "You too, I thought we were having a moment!"
Jasper burst into laughter, swinging down and landing delicately on the balls of his feet, not at all like the uncoordinated back flop I did. "Great job, darlin', that was quite impressive."
"Blah, blah." I mocked, gesturing to my know incredibly ripped my shirt was. Four long gashes ran down the center of my shirt, exposing my pale stomach and the bottom of my black sports-bra. "Look what it did to my shirt!" I complained, uselessly plucking at the end. The thin scar across my stomach was still there, as if reminding me of my past life. The life I could never get back.
It'll take some getting used too.
"I like it." Jasper teased, his eyes positively gleaming. I smirked back.
Yeah, I could get used to this.

When we got home, Paul and Embry were there.
I froze for a second, but neither of them were looking at me, as they were interrogating a rather frightened looking Emmett. Paul had his arms crossed, while Embry was circling behind him. The scene was quite amusing, so I didn't intervene quite yet.
"I already told you, she woke up!" Emmett snapped, earning a quite wolf-like growl from Paul.
"Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-bullshit!" Embry snapped, leaning forward so his head was on the opposite of Emmett's. "When your kind are turned, it is three days!"
"Three days!" Paul repeated, holding up three fingers, as if to clarify what a three was. "Three!"
"Oh my God!" Emmett yelled, covering his ears with his hands. "This is my house!"
I walked over to Paul, realizing how quiet my footsteps must be, and tapped his shoulder. "Hi."
"Courtney?" He reeled to the side, his eyes wide. "Oh my-" He didn't even let himself finish, surging forward and wrapping his warm arms over my cold skin.
"Why is her shirt like that?" I heard Embry ask.
"A mountain lion."
I could almost see the look Embry gave Jasper, because he scoffed in disbelief. "I'm serious."
As Paul embraced me, I realized they didn't actually smell that bad. Kind of like a small puppy, but not bad. I think that Paul was having a similar thought, because when he pulled away, he was grinning. "You don't smell bad!"
"Get out ma way!" Embry pushed Paul to the side, hugging me tightly. It was easier to hug Embry, since we were closer in height, but not as warm. "You feel kind of weird, but not like them." He observed, and before I could respond, the door flew open.
And Bella stepped in.
A/N: I freaking love Embry, and making up science. It's so fun.
