"The worst tragedies happen to the best people."
-Again, Me.
***
We all sat around anxiously as Bella brought a small cup to her lips. I had a permanent grimace on my face as she drank the inky red substance. Blood.
Jacob seemed to be having similar thoughts, as his lips curled over his teeth, and his eyes were so narrowed I couldn't figure out how he could see. Jasper's arm tightened around me, and I placed a reassuring hand on his waist.
"It tastes... good."
A small gag came from my mouth, that I did my best to hide behind my hand. It was one thing to have a vampire drink animal blood, having my sister drink human blood is a totally different thing... It's kinda gross.
"Your pulse is already getting stronger." Carlisle muttered in awe, making me relax, but still not like this.
"It's working!" Esme grinned. I tried for a supportive smile, but when a little drop of blood ran down Bella's chin, I had to turn away.
"Wow... I am some sort of genius."
***
I have never had to speak to mutant vampire babies before... so it made sense that I was nervous.
I was sitting on the edge of the couch, next to Bella and Edward. Apparently Edward could... hear it's thoughts? I dunno, I am just here for emotional support. Jasper was hunting with Alice because I forced him too, so I was left alone with the Adams family... and Jacob.
"He likes your voice."
"Mine?" I raised an eyebrow, confused and slightly concerned at how Edward knew that baby liked my voice. "Uh, thanks?"
"Come on, I'm not insane." Edward smiled slightly as Bella rubbed her stomach. "Talk to him, he needs to know the voice of his cool aunt Courtney."
"I am pretty cool." I smirked, leaning down so my head was next to Bella's stomach. "Uh, what up little guy? I'm your aunt Courtney... I, uh, will always have gum... if that's something you're in to."
The two beside me chuckled.
"What else? Um, I'm married to uncle Jasper... yeah you'll love him. Weird Southern dude. I'll probably be the only human in this house when you come, so I would appreciate it if you didn't try to like... bite me or something."
The teasing tone n my voice made Bella giggle. "I have really sensitive skin... and my hair constantly changes lengths, so if you're one of those babies who are kinda dumb and don't understand haircuts... it's still me..." I wracked my mind for something to say to the small demon baby. "I guess we'll get along... unless you hurt my sister, in that case, I might have to-"
"Auntie Court is leaving now!" Bella gave me a stiff smile, and I waved her off. "Hey! Can't a girl joke? What's your name gonna be?"
"Don't ask her that!" Rosalie appeared in the doorway, making me almost jump out of my skin. Jeez, ninja, much?
"Hey, are you okay?" Bella suddenly asked a very distracted looking werewolf, making me blink. I honestly forgot he was here.
"I'm fine, it's not like I'm the one carrying a demon."
"This is pretty important, Bella." Rosalie took a seat next to me, "why don't you tell Courtney what you've decided on?"
I grinned, looking between the blonde and my sister. "What?"
"Rose has been trying to talk Bella out of her baby names." Edward explained, a light smirk on his handsome face.
"Yeah, she hates them."
"I'll be the judge of that." I sat straighter in my seat, excited to hear the disaster Bella thought up. She named her toy cat, Ferdinand, at age three... Theodore was much better. Moral of the story: Bella can not name.
"Okay, for a boy I was thinking E.J, for Edward Jacob."
I shrugged. Sure it isn't the best, and I am not in the best place with Jacob right now, but it's better then Ferdinand. "That's not bad."
"And for a girl, I was playing around with Renee and Esme, and I was thinking... Renesmee."
"Re-what now?" I repeated, any hope I had for Bella being able to name a child rushing out of the window. Renesmee? Might as well name the kid Ferdinand! "Renesmee? Is that like, Dutch or something?"
Jacob and Rose both burst into laughter as Edward lightly swatted at my arm. "I like it!" He defended his wife, smiling endearingly at Bella. "It's beautiful and unique. It certainly fits the situation... I like Renesmee."
"I'll tell you what, lets move to the Netherlands, and then ask me again."
"Courtney!"
"Fine!" I held up my hands in defense. "As long as her middle name can be Courtney."
"Deal."
"Everyone! Renesmee is going by Courtney now!" I yelled to no-one in-particular, before racing out of the room, laughing at the shouts that followed me. I chuckled to myself. Of course Bella would name her kid Renesmee. With a name like Bella, you want to get as creative as possible... lets all just hope she has a boy.
I didn't get far up the staircase, before a commotion came from downstairs.
And that was the beginning of my ending.
***
It has been a whole hour.
And hour of chewing off all of my fingernails, waiting in painstaking quiet as Bella could be dying in the room behind me. She went in to... well, I guess you could call it labor. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Carlisle, Alice, Esme and Jasper were all gone. Leaving only Edward, Jacob, and Rosalie to save Bella's life.
Oh, and me.
"We need you." Edward grabbed my arm before I could even say anything, dragging me into the room. Bella was lying still, which I think is what scared me.
"Morphine."
"Now!" Rosalie snapped, rooting around. "Courtney, get out your knife!"
I did so with shaking arms, handing the small blade to Rose.
"No!" Edward snapped, "let the morphine spread!"
"There's no time! He's dying!"
"Get him out!"
Rosalie made a cut on Bella's skin, eliciting a scream from her. Tears began to flood my vision at how horrible this scene was. It was a nightmare...No, it was worse than a nightmare.
I looked up just in time to see Edward shove Rosalie out the door, a crazed look in his eyes a he shoved the bloody knife into my hands. "You have to do it!"
"No." I shook my head, the mere thought of cutting Bella open making me tremble. "No, I can't."
"You have to, or they both die!"
I stared down at the sobbing Bella, and her bloody stomach, and felt something in me snap.
And then I just acted. Acted to save my sister, acted to save my nephew.
Bella screamed again as I dug the knife into the placenta, tears flooding my eyes and random words spilling from my mouth. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." I closed my eyes, going only off of knowledge from books and T.V shows, reaching my already blood-soaked hands into her stomach, feeling a slimy ball that I knew was the baby, and pulling it out, gagging and sobbing at how horrifying this all is. I turned and shoved the blob into Edwards arms, and in one swift motion, sliced the umbilical chord and stumbled forward to grasp Bella's hands in mine. In my that were dripping with my sisters blood.
If she dies, it's my fault.
"It's okay." I whispered to my gasping sister, her eyes were wide, and her face was white as a sheet. "Shh, just keep that heart beating."
I unconsciously began to sing "Staying Alive," the song they taught us in middle school when we were learning C.P.R. "Just stay alive, Bell. Do it for the baby."
That was the last thing I said, before I was grabbed and shoved out of the door. I didn't fight it, I couldn't. I couldn't see what happened next. I didn't want too.
I turned my head, seeing the rest of the Cullen family staring at me with horror in their eyes at the sight of me. My arms, from the tips of my fingers up to elbows, were stained red, and my face probably looked no better.
I didn't even say anything. I just crumbled to the ground, everything around me going black.

When I woke up, I was laying on a bed in Carlisle's office.
"Hey sleepin' beauty," a familiar voice chirped, and I turned to see Jasper giving me a pained smile. "How're you doin'?"
"Depends." My voice was raspy when I spoke, but I didn't make an effort to clear it. My eyes were fixed on the unconscious form of Bella. "Is she alive?"
Jasper came and sat next to me, grabbing my hand and wrapping his arm around my shoulder, holding me tight to his body. "Uh, technically."
A breath of relief unlike anything I have felt cleared my head, and a small, teary smile made its way to my face. "She's turned?"
"She's alive." Jasper corrected. "You've been out for almost two days, I was just about-"
"Two days?" I cut him off, crying out in disbelief, I had been sleeping for two days? How does that even work?
As if reading my mind, Jasper responded. "Panic attack was the original reason, Carlisle said after that you were probably catching up with all of your lost rest."
I grinned up at my husband, leaning up so I could press my lips to his, at this moment grateful to be alive. "I love you."
Jasper smiled, his eyes as beautiful as they were the day we met.
I stood up, sliding out of his arms to stand over Bella. She looked so peaceful. So pale, so much healthier, and peaceful.
I didn't even hear Jasper's yell of warning, as her eyes flew open, arms grabbing my shoulders, teeth sinking into my neck.
A/N: At moments like this, I'm glad you guys don't have my address. I don't blame y'all, I kinda wanted to kill myself after writing this.
Yeah... that was sad. Anyone else getting major The Walking Dead vibes at that whole delivery scene? (Poor Maggie, amirite?)
