"I like the new dress, it's really flattering."
"Well I lost my other one when we were cornered by hooligans, so..."
The night was crisp and dark as Bella and I walked together into prom. I am sure we would get even more odd looks then usual, considering that you fell down two flights of stairs through a window, and I was in a car accident.
It has been a rough week for the Swan twins. I just think it is hilarious that Bella couldn't have just been in a car accident with me. I mean, nobody even thought it was weird that she fell down two flights of stairs and through a window. Just like, oh yeah, her clumsy ass would totally do that.
The truck is already janky so nobody will see the difference.
"You look fantastic, Bells. Even with the cast."
It was true, my sister did look great in her dark blue gown, and I was already laughing picturing the look Mike would get seeing that she declined him and then came with someone else. I didn't laugh though, because if I did then I increase the risk of pulling my stomach-stitches. The cut spans from the top of my left hip bone, and curves upward to my right side. I had to work up the courage to look at it at first. It wasn't as bad as I thought... Kind of hard to comprehend that I did that to myself, and it saved my sisters life.
We walked in, and I was surprised when Jessica and Bella's squad got to me before Alice. Jessica gave me a quick once-over. "Wow, Court, you look... bad."
I suppressed a laugh, reaching over to smack her arm. "Don't make me laugh I have about ten million stitches in my stomach."
She rolled her eyes. "Please, a car crash ain't gonna take you down."
I grinned. It's so weird, Jessica and I are like... friends now. Almost. In a weird way.
"Yo!"
Sadie appeared at my side, grinning, and because she is Sadie, winking at Jessica. "Hey-"
"Wow you have more then one friend, shocker."
"Wow you didn't stuff your bra, shocker."
"Why are you looking at my boobs?"
"Can't look at what doesn't exist."
Sadie burst into laughter at our banter. "Wow, this is fun. I love Forks!"
"You shouldn't." We spoke in unison.
"It's named after a eating utensil." I pointed out. Jessica hummed in agreement, crossing her arms over her stomach.
"Hi! Ah! I love your dress."
Alice basically tackled me to the ground, which would have been embarrassing, but I caught my balance at the last second, grinning down at my fairy-like friend. "Wow, you look great, Allie."
Alice twirled, her purple dress swishing around her knees, making her look even more fairy-like then usual. She looked flawless, as per usual. I heard booming laughter from behind us, and automatically knew Emmett and Rosalie were here to embarrass me.
"Cordie! I thought we would both be dead by the time I saw you in a dress!"
"Coming from someone who never dies, that is saying a lot." I teased, standing on my tip-toes to wrap one arm around Emmett's broad shoulders. He hugged me back delicately, having already memorized all of my James-injuries. I turned to embrace Rosalie. "Wow, Rose I am seriously considering ditching Jasper for you." I teased, and she giggled. She was wearing a hot pink dress that fell to her feet, the neckline plunging almost all the way to her waist. The smoky-eye she had applied made her yellow orbs stand out even more then usual.
"Do it!" She teased, winking at me playfully. Emmett blanched, scoffing at our behavior.
"Remember what I said?" Emmett asked, grabbing my hand and pulling me over to the dance floor, Edward and Bella were twirling around on their own, staring into each others eyes. I grinned.
"That prom's not a prom if I don't dance with you?" I asked, grateful for my extra height so I could wrap my arms around his neck and not pull my stitches. "You better not throw me into a wall, Cullen."
He chuckled deeply, bowing his head slightly. I grinned back.
"I'm glad you're okay, Cordie." He said earnestly, I smiled. "Thanks, Em."
"You seem to be doing better then ol' Bells over there-" I turned my head just in time to see Bella trip. I swallowed a bout of laughter. "Poor Edward."
"Nah, he loves it." Emmett smiled his Emmett smile, and spun me around. "Hey, I may not be Jasper but I'm pretty good at dancing, right?"
I turned my head slightly, smirking when I saw Sadie and Alice waltzing together. "You're better then I anticipated, I'll give you that."
"Hey, he's gonna be waiting for you when we get home... remember, always use protection."
"Emmett!" I cried, slapping his arm as he burst into laughter at his own joke. My face heated up, and I am sure I was blushing a brighter red then my dress.
"I would say I'm sorry, but I'm not." he chuckled, and I scoffed loudly, and I began to do the internal math of if I could strangle him or not. I decided on not.
"Mind if I cut in?"
"Jake?" I asked, smiling softly to myself at the younger teenager. He looked as if he had grown overnight. He was taller then me now, and his jet-black hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail that rested on the crook of his neck. Emmett wrinkled his nose, but responded with a hint of amusement in his tone.
"Sure, but I have to warn you, she has a boyfriend."
I reached out to slap his arm again, but he dodged out of my reach and ran to Rosalie.
"Sorry about him." I apologized, finding it a lot easier to wrap my arms around Jacob then Emmett.
"It's fine, so where is this boyfriend he speaks of?" Jake asked, smiling down at me. I returned the gesture as we swayed softly to the music. "Not here, he's kind of claustrophobic, so being in a room this crowded might freak him out."
"You've grown since I've last saw you." I pointed out, and Jacob grinned. "Nearing six feet."
"You know steroids are really bad for you." I teased, and he chuckled lightly. "You're supposed to only be like, fifteen."
"Almost sixteen." He defended indignantly. "I'm not actually that much younger than you if you think about it."
"Well you stole my hair style." I joked, reaching over to flick his ponytail. "I'm thinking of cutting all of mine off, so we might be okay."
"No!" He cried, mocking what I had done and twirling a piece of my hair around his finger. "We can have a hair-growing competition!"
"Dude, you know you would win."
Jacob chuckled lightly, making me take another mental note of how his voice has definitely gotten deeper. Puberty hit this kid like a truck I am telling you...
"You look really pretty, Courtney."
"Aw, so do you."
He blushed again while I fought down a giggle. "I'm sorry, but I am not allowed to laugh so this is causing me extreme pain."
"I heard about your accident." His fingers twitched on my waist, and I could tel he wanted to brush his fingers over the stitches. I am glad he didn't though, that would've been weird. "Looks like you didn't go down without a fight."
My eyebrows creased at the odd wording. "Um, it was a car accident, Jake, you don't exactly get to fight it."
Jacob hummed, staring down at me intensely. "Well, just remember to be careful, Courtney."
"Jake what do you-"
"I'm just saying, you never know when you could get hurt."
