Ch. 49

Ginny and Blaise easily adjusted to being parents, and absolutely loved their children. Having their godchildren around only made Hermione more anxious to have her own baby there, and she was definitely starting to grow restless.

A month had passed by and as Hermione was getting closer and closer to her due date, she became restless. She was already off from work and trying to keep herself busy, but even reading had become tedious to her. She was very grateful for Draco though and his ability to calm her down, even in her worst moods.

"Draco, where's the portkey to Ginny and Blaise's?" Hermione called out in a frustrated voice, searching through her purse.

"It's right here, love," Draco answered, stepping into the kitchen and holding up a large key.

Hermione sighed and went to him, smiling. "Thank you. Do you have the one to St. Mungo's just in case?"

He patted his jacket pocket and smiled. "Of course. Are you ready?"

She nodded as he held the key out and they soon landed in the middle of the Zabini living room. Ginny was waiting on one of the couches with Nathaniel in her arms and Blaise was walking around holding Seraphina, or Sera as they liked to call her.

"We were wondering when you two were going to show up," Ginny smiled from the couch.

Draco took a step forward but Hermione stood frozen in her spot, her eyes wide. Ginny gave her an odd look and then suddenly realized what had happened as she saw the sudden puddle on the floor underneath Hermione.

"Draco, you need to take her to St. Mungo's," Ginny said suddenly, standing up.

"I'm so sorry, Gin!" Hermione groaned. "I'll clean it up!"

"Clean it up?" Ginny laid her son down as Draco pulled the portkey out of his pocket. "We'll get it! You're having a baby, get going!"

Before Hermione could argue, Draco grabbed her hand and unwrapped the portkey, transporting both of them to the hospital.

"Hurry up, Blaise!" Ginny exclaimed, shouldering Seraphina's bag. "We have to take the kids to the Burrow so we can get to St. Mungo's before Hermione has the baby!"

Blaise rushed back out into the living room, grabbing Nathaniel's bag and nodding. Ginny grabbed his hand and they landed in the field outside of the Burrow.

"Why do you always have us land in the field?" Blaise asked as they quickly made their way up to the front door.

"Can't apparate into the house," Ginny panted. "George did it once and destroyed an old vase that was in my mum's family for generations. She was so angry."

Blaise laughed slightly, letting it out as a small huff as Ginny pulled him up to the door, quickly unlocking it.

"Mum!"

Ginny and Blaise rushed into the Burrow as Molly came out of the kitchen in a panic, looking around.

"What's wrong?!" She exclaimed, looking at the two of them.

"Hermione's having her baby!" Blaise answered.

"And we need you to watch the twins!" Ginny finished, setting the bags down. "Sorry for the short notice!"

Molly heaved a sigh of relief and slowed down, taking both of the twins from their parents. "It's no problem at all! You get to the hospital and give them our love! And tell her we expect a visit as soon as she's ready!"

Ginny gave her a quick hug and kiss before grabbing Blaise's hand and disapparating the two of them away. After landing in the lobby, they ran past the Welcome Witch's desk and to the elevators, and Ginny was bouncing up and down in anticipation as the doors closed.

"I really hope she hasn't had the baby yet," She said nervously.

"Would it be bad if she did?" Blaise asked, confused.

"Not really, but," Ginny sighed and tapped her foot as she stared at the numbers. "She was there when we had our twins; I just want to be there when she has hers."

Blaise shook his head and smiled but didn't say anything, making sure to keep up with Ginny when she raced out of the elevator. They ran down the hallway quickly, moving in and out of passing Healers and wizards until they reached the door to the Malfoy suite.

Ginny quickly knocked on the door, bouncing up and down with excitement. There was a cry of pain from the other side of the door and then they heard the lock click open. Ginny opened the door and they both rushed in.

"We're here!" Ginny announced, jogging over to Hermione's side. "Alright, you can have your baby now!"

Hermione choked out a laugh which soon turned into another cry of pain.

Half an hour later, Hermione and Draco were both gazing down at their child who was fast asleep in Hermione's arms. Ginny was sitting at the foot of the bed, her legs crossed with Blaise standing behind her, grinning madly.

"Told you it was going to be a girl," He stated confidently. "You owe my wife twenty galleons!"

Ginny elbowed him while Draco shook his head and said, "I don't even care, honestly. I'm the happiest man in the world right now."

Hermione smiled at him and gave him a small kiss. "I expect your parents will be here soon with mine."

"I sent them a Patronus not too long ago," Draco said, his eyes glancing towards the door. "I'm honestly surprised they aren't already here."

"Mum said to visit as soon as you're ready," Ginny said. "She's been really excited about you two having a kid, almost as much as Narcissa and Jean are."

"Well she practically is a mother to me," Hermione nodded. "After all, she looked after me when I had to alter my parents' memories, so it's understandable how excited she is for our baby."

There was a sudden knock on the door that caught their attention and Hermione grinned as Blaise went to answer the door.

"Hello, grandparents!" Blaise answered excitedly.

Narcissa pulled Jean inside the room with their husbands following shortly behind, making their way to Hermione's side with smiles on their faces.

"Oh it's a girl!" Jean exclaimed excitedly, wrapping an arm around Hermione's shoulders. "She's beautiful, sweetheart!"

Hermione beamed and looked down at her little girl again. Lucius squeezed his son's shoulder and asked, "So, what is her name?"

"We decided on Cassandra Raye," Draco answered, smiling.

"Oh, that's a beautiful name!" Narcissa exclaimed.

"She'll be Cassie for short," Ginny said, reaching for the baby. "At least with us."

"I certainly like that name," Jean said, looking at Richard. "I think Richard likes Raye though."

"She can be my little Raye of sunshine," Richard chuckled.

There was a collective groan followed by laughter as the baby was passed around so everyone could have a turn holding her. Lucius was immediately in love with his granddaughter, smiling down at her and holding her close as he paced the room slightly.

"You might not be getting your daughter back," Richard laughed as he looked back at his daughter. "Between the four of us grandparents, she's hardly going to be home."

"I'm sure we'll be okay with that some days!" Hermione said, shaking her head with a smile on her face. "Molly and Arthur are going to want a hand in babysitting too, I'm sure."

"They've already got two grandchildren to worry about," Narcissa chuckled. "This one's going to be ours!"

The entire group laughed as Lucius reluctantly handed the baby over to Hermione's parents, going back to squeeze Draco's shoulder again. "I hope you two realize that we are going to spoil her."

Hermione shifted uncomfortably on the bed and looked between him and Narcissa. "Hopefully not as much as you did Draco."

"Grandparents are supposed to spoil their grandchildren," Jean said happily.

"I don't think Hermione wants Cassandra to grow up acting the way I did," Draco stated, looking at his parents.

Narcissa nodded after a few moments with understanding. "We'll make sure that we don't overdo it."

"Thank you, Narcissa," Hermione smiled.

"Besides, she's got us as her godparents," Ginny added. "And I'm sure Sera and Nathan will also keep her in line. But I seriously doubt we have anything to worry about; after all, she is Hermione's child!"

"She's going to be one of the smartest kids in the class," Blaise remarked. "Between Draco and Hermione, that kid is going to be doing magic well before she can walk."

"Merlin, our hands are going to be so full with her," Hermione groaned as everyone else laughed.

The next evening, Hermione was allowed to leave the hospital and they returned home with their daughter. Hermione hadn't left the nursery since they got home, and Draco was starting to get worried.

He made her a mug of tea and went up the stairs, knocking gently on the door. "Love, are you alright?"

There was a small rustling sound and she quietly opened the door, giving him a tired smile. "I'm okay, just tired."

He frowned as he handed the mug to her and followed her back inside the room. "Is that it? You haven't left the nursery at all."

"I'm just trying to get used to the idea of her actually being here," Hermione sighed, gently sitting back down in her chair and looking over at the crib where their daughter was sleeping. "It's a little hard to believe."

"I know it is, sweetheart." Draco kissed the top of her head and sighed. "Just let me know if you need anything. I don't like you feeling nervous."

They were silent for a few moments as they both watched the crib. Draco could feel different emotions radiating off of her, mainly switching between sadness and nervousness.

"What are you thinking about, love?" He asked quietly, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb.

"I'm just worried that she's got so much to live up to; people are going to hold her to high expectations, or they're going to judge her for her last name," Hermione said truthfully. "And what if she can't even do magic?"

"You can't think like that, Hermione," Draco said, moving to crouch in front of her and taking her hands in his. "She's going to be the next brightest witch at Hogwarts, I promise you that. And if anyone looks down on her for having the Malfoy name, we will teach her to overcome and ignore those people. She's going to have the best support system in the world between all of us, and she's going to be just fine."

He felt a small glimmer of happiness come from her and he smiled at her, kissing her hands as he said, "And even if she isn't magical, she's still going to be the best daughter we could ever hope for."

Hermione smiled and nodded. "You're right."

"You say that like it's a surprise," He grinned.

She laughed at that and shook her head. "Typically it is!"

He rolled his eyes and kissed her again as he stood up. "Come on, let's leave her to sleep. She'll let us know when she wants us."

Hermione smiled as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders as her own snaked across his lower back, leaning her head against his chest. They left the room and quietly shut the door behind them, leaving it cracked open slightly as they walked across the hall to their own room.

"You know," Draco started as they entered the room, "We were both only children growing up. I don't think I want to put Cass through that."

Hermione turned and raised an eyebrow. "Cass?"

"What?" He asked. "Don't like it?"

"It's different," She said, tilting her head back and forth. "I personally think I like Cassandra the best."

"I know, but we'll let her decide when she's old enough," Draco shrugged.

"So are you thinking of having another child already, Draco Malfoy?" Hermione asked slyly.

Draco laughed. "It crossed my mind, yes. Maybe a boy this time?"

Hermione laughed as well, pulling him to her for a deep kiss. "Let's wait a bit. I need to heal from this child."

"Of course, love!" Draco grinned between kisses.

After a few deep, passionate kisses they were both standing there quietly, their foreheads resting against each other with their eyes closed. Hermione could feel a thrum of happiness radiating from Draco, and it fed into her own contentedness the longer they stood there.

"Draco?" Hermione started quietly.

"Hm?" He hummed.

"I love you."

He  opened  his  eyes  slightly  to  look  at  her,  smiling.  "I  love  you  too.  Forever  and  always."
