Ch. 47
The two sets of parents were absolutely overjoyed about the news, much to Hermione's delight. Any worry she had instantly dissipated and she was able to enjoy the rest of the dinner.
"What happened to not blurting it out?" Draco asked into her ear as they walked to the sitting room again.
Hermione shook her head and sighed. "I may have panicked slightly."
"Slightly?" He chuckled before kissing her temple. "At least now you don't have to worry."
She smiled at him and then was pulled away by Narcissa and Jean, who sat her down on one of the plush couches and began bombarding her with questions.
"So you're two months pregnant?" Narcissa asked excitedly.
Hermione nodded with a smile, absentmindedly putting a hand on her stomach. "We found out at four weeks and it's been a month since then."
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?" Jean asked, frowning slightly.
"Well..." Hermione faltered and leaned against the back of the couch with a sigh. "It was partly because I wanted to make sure nothing would happen to the baby between now and then, and I was worried that you would be unhappy since I'm so young..."
Jean laughed at this. "Hermione, you've been through so much already. And you're married! You're well old enough to make your own decisions!"
Hermione smiled. "I know, the worry was still there though."
"Have you gotten an ultrasound yet?" Jean asked, earning her an odd look from both Narcissa and Lucius.
"Not yet," Hermione shook her head. "I'm hoping to soon though; Ginny wants to get one as well."
"What is an 'ultrasound'?" Narcissa asked, looking between them.
"It's a muggle thing," Draco answered from one of the other chairs with a grin.
Hermione crinkled her nose at him and he laughed as she clarified, "It is a muggle thing, yes; it allows you to see the baby."
"Oh, I would love to see that!" Narcissa said excitedly. "Would we be able to go to this?"
"Of course!" Hermione laughed. "It's your grandchild too!"
"That's going to be interesting," Draco muttered from the chair. "All of us, plus Blaise and Ginny, and there's only three in the group who know what this even is."
Hermione laughed again. "It's going to be exciting, you will love it."
"Just let us know and we'll make sure to be there," Lucius said happily.
"Have you thought of any names yet?" Jean asked.
"Mum, we don't even know the gender yet!" Hermione said.
"That doesn't mean you can't pick out names," Richard said from behind her.
"I know," Hermione shrugged. "But Draco seems thoroughly convinced that it's going to be a boy."
"Well, the Malfoy family has only produced boys for the past century," Lucius nodded. "There's a very good chance that it's going to be a boy."
"Either way," Draco interrupted with a smile, "We're excited."
"Yes," Hermione smiled. "And this means that our child will be in Hogwarts at the same time as Blaise and Ginny's twins."
"Merlin, help them," Narcissa laughed.
"So wait," Richard interrupted. "Does this mean that our grandchild is going to be....what is it, Valas?"
"Veela," Hermione corrected gently. "And most likely, yes. They will have at least some traits, most likely the extended hearing and protectiveness."
"All Veelas have those traits," Lucius shrugged. "Now, how much of those traits they get, that's to be seen."
"So they'll have a mate too?" Richard asked.
Lucius nodded. "They won't know who their mate is for sure until they turn 18 and their Veelas awaken, but that's far in the future and they won't have to worry about that right now."
"What if they don't have any magical abilities?" Jean asked quietly.
A silence fell over the room as everyone thought about it. Hermione shifted in her seat after a few moments and said, "Well...the chance is there. We do need to consider that as an option."
"Is there a way to tell?" Draco asked curiously, looking at his parents.
"I'm actually not sure," Narcissa answered. "That would have to be a question for the Healers at St. Mungo's."
"I'm sure they will have magical abilities though, between these two," Lucius smiled, gesturing at Draco and Hermione. "They were at the top of their classes and are both very powerful."
"We'll just have to wait and see," Hermione sighed.
Two more weeks passed by and Hermione was able to find a muggle doctor that actually worked with witches and wizards for their ultrasounds. She excitedly passed on the news to Ginny, and they made an appointment for that weekend.
They didn't realize just how many people would be at the appointment though until they got there and saw the large group waiting outside of the office.
"Oh, Merlin..." Ginny groaned quietly.
Blaise squeezed her hand but also was shocked at the large group. There were the four of them, plus Aster, Molly and Arthur, Lucius and Narcissa, and Hermione's parents, Jean and Richard. Eleven people total.
"The poor doctor is going to have a heart attack," Hermione sighed.
"Is this normal for this type of thing?" Draco asked, looking down at her.
She shook her head. "Not this many people. It just kind of depends, though. Sometimes it's just the expecting parents; sometimes it's the mum-to-be and her mum; it's different for everyone."
After they joined the group, everyone made their way inside and were greeted with the wide and slightly frightened eyes of the receptionist.
Hermione pulled Ginny forward with her and motioned for the rest of the group to go sit down before turning back to the receptionists. "We here for appointments for Hermione Malfoy and Ginny Zabini."
"Welcome ladies!" The receptionist seemed to brighten up as the group sat down away from the desk. "I have some paperwork here that you will need to fill out since it is your first time visiting."
She handed both girls a clipboard with a few sheets of paperwork and gave them a small smile. "You can fill those out while you wait and Dr. Clearwater will be with you shortly."
"Clearwater?" Ginny asked, looking at Hermione.
"It might be some relation to Penelope Clearwater, but I wasn't sure," Hermione shrugged. "Either way, she's the only doctor to work with both muggles and wizards that I could find."
They made their way back to the group, talking quietly to each other as they filled out their paperwork. Draco and Blaise watched them both quietly while the rest of the group was happily talking to each other. Jean and Richard were explaining what to expect from the appointment, and the other five adults were very excited as they hung on nearly every word.
Not too long after, Ginny and Hermione both finished their paperwork and returned back to their seats. Ginny put a hand on her now-noticeable belly and smiled. "I can't wait to see them."
"You may even be able to find out the genders of them today," Hermione said with a smile. "You're sixteen weeks now, that's typically when people find out."
"Oh that would be wonderful!" Ginny exclaimed, looking at Blaise.
"Ten galleons says you get two girls," Draco laughed, holding out a hand to Blaise.
Blaise took it and said in return, "Deal."
Hermione rolled her eyes while the others laughed. Not too long after, the doctor came out and greeted everyone happily, and it was revealed that it was in fact Penelope Clearwater, who had dated Percy for years.
"What are you doing as a muggle doctor?" Hermione asked curiously as Penelope led them down the hallway to another room.
"Oh, I had always been interested in it as a child," Penelope explained. "I'm a muggleborn as well, and my parents always wanted me to do something worthwhile. While they were excited when I got my Hogwarts letter, they were also somewhat disappointed that I wasn't going to be able to be a doctor. After Hogwarts, no jobs felt really right in the wizarding world, and while being a Healer was the closest I was going to get, it still didn't feel quite right. So I returned to the muggle world and became a doctor. And I've never been happier."
She smiled at them as they entered a large room, and Penelope turned to the two girls. "Alright, who wants to go first?"
Hermione and Ginny both looked at each other and Hermione gestured towards Ginny. "You've been pregnant longer, why don't you go ahead?"
"I understand you're pregnant with twins?" Penelope asked.
Ginny nodded. "We don't know the genders yet though. Hermione said that I might be able to find out today?"
Penelope took a quick look at the paperwork and smiled at the red head. "You're right around the timeframe so we should be able to find out!"
After setting everything up and having Ginny lay on the elevated bed, the group all crowded around excitedly as Penelope pressed the small remote against Ginny's belly, trying to bring up the twins on the monitor.
"There they are!"
Ginny and Blaise both stared at the screen, watching their twins in a stunned silence. Penelope moved the small remote around a little bit, getting a different angle on the picture.
"It looks like they are doing just fine," She said quietly. "They are progressing well, and..."
She furrowed her brow slightly as she leaned it. "There is one boy..."
Blaise squeezed Ginny's hand excitedly.
"...aaand one girl!"
Ginny grinned and looked at Blaise, who was also grinning. Then he looked at Draco and said, "I'll take five galleons since you said they'd both be girls."
Draco shook his head. "Nope, we didn't bet on that."
"Boys," Hermione muttered.
The adults all laughed and Molly dabbed at a small tear on her cheek. "I wish I had access to this when I was pregnant with my children!"
"It certainly is a beautiful sight," Aster nodded. "Our grandchildren!"
After a few more minutes of watching the Zabini twins, Ginny decided that it was Hermione's turn to have an ultrasound and they made the switch. Draco stared at the screen as their own child came up, and she squeezed his hand.
"Merlin, that's our baby!" He exclaimed excitedly, looking at Hermione.
Lucius squeezed his son's shoulder happily. "How far along is she again?"
"Nine weeks," Penelope answered. "You will be able to find out the gender of the baby in about six to seven weeks."
"I still say it's going to be a boy," Draco said in a matter-of-factly tone.
Hermione rolled her eyes and smacked him slightly, unable to hold back a grin.
When they finished with Hermione's ultrasound, they cleaned her belly and Penelope excused herself, leaving everyone in the room.
"So, you're able to pick names now!" Hermione said excitedly to Ginny.
"I know!" Ginny grinned, looking at Blaise. "One boy and one girl! We both got what we were hoping for!"
Blaise shook his head, smiling. "They are going to be trouble-makers, you know that."
"I wouldn't expect anything less from our grandchildren," Molly huffed.
"Do you have an idea for names at all?" Aster asked curiously.
"Not yet," Blaise answered. "We had been waiting on finding out what we were having first."
"Well, you certainly have some time!" Narcissa smiled.
Penelope came back into the room before anyone else could say anything, a large smile on her face. "I have presents!"
She held out two envelopes to both Hermione and Ginny and the girls took them, opening them excitedly. Ginny gasped when she pulled out the sonogram pictures, and jumped up and down excitedly. "They move!"
Penelope laughed. "I thought you might enjoy that. It's a little something special I do for my magical clients, since typical sonograms don't move."
"This is wonderful, Penelope!" Hermione exclaimed, passing the pictures around to the grandparents. "Thank you!"
"Of course!" The blonde witch smiled and led them out of the room. "Now, I want to see you, Hermione, in six to seven weeks so we can figure out the gender of your baby. Ginny, you can come see me at the same time, and of course you two can come in sooner if anything happens. Of course, you can also go to St. Mungo's if you'd like."
"St. Mungo's can't do these...ultrasounds?" Arthur said hesitantly, looking at Hermione.
Hermione nodded happily. "That's right!"
"Well, just let me know and I'll have the receptionists set your appointments," Penelope said. "It was wonderful seeing you all again!"
Aster was happily looking over Ginny's shoulder at the sonogram of the twins, smiling brightly. Ginny looked into the large envelope that had the pictures and announced, "It looks like there are copies of the pictures! That means that everyone can have a set!"
"That's wonderful!" Aster exclaimed.
"Now we won't have to keep borrowing Ginny's copy," Molly smiled.
"It's amazing that they move," Jean added, staring down at her copy that Hermione had given her parents. "This is so much better than the regular sonogram pictures."
"Just wait until the baby gets larger!" Hermione laughed.
A/N: Ugh, just bear with me guys, I know this chapter kind of sucks. It was surprisingly difficult to write and did not come out how I wanted it to. I'll most likely go back and change it later, but I've kept you guys waiting too long. Thank you for your patience and I'm so sorry that this chapter sucks but the next one will be better! Love you all! <3
And for those of you who are wondering, the difference between Ginny and Hermione's pregnancy timeframe is 7 weeks if my math is correct!
