Ch. 16

Draco and Blaise landed in a grassy area just outside of Betchworth Castle, looking at the ruins with confusion.

"I wonder why they decided to meet here," Draco said in a curious tone as the two Veelas set off towards the remains of the castle.

Blaise shrugged and said, "I mean, there are plenty of places and walls to hide everyone behind. Gives us an element of surprise."

"Good point."

They stepped over the protective railings and followed the sounds of quiet murmurs to meet up with the large group of Aurors. It looked as if the entire department was there, give or take a few people. Draco recognized Harry and Ron easily off to the side of the crowd, and he was very surprised to see Kingsley Shacklebolt there next to them.

"Minister, are you sure it's safe for you to be here?" Draco asked as he approached, reaching out to shake the Minister's offered hand.

"I am here as a member of the Order of the Phoenix, not as the Minister," Kingsley said with a smile. "I want to make sure we get rid of the threat to my fellow members."

Draco and Blaise both nodded at him and he returned the nod before giving a slight bow and walking away to speak with an older Auror, leaving Draco and Blaise alone with Harry and a very sullen-looking Ron.

"Draco, Blaise," Harry greeted with a nod.

The Veelas returned his nod and Draco held out his hand to Harry. "Good to see you, Harry."

After Harry released his hand, Draco sighed and reluctantly reached his hand out to Ron. "Ron."

Ron glanced down at Draco's offered hand and his mouth formed a thin line. After a few tense moments, he finally reached out and grasped Draco's hand for a second, nodding at the blond but saying nothing.

Harry raised an eyebrow but shook his head, asking, "How are the girls?"

"Unhappy in their current situation but protected," Draco answered with a sigh as his hands went into his pockets. "They're with my parents right now, and are waiting for tonight to be over so we can take them back home to our own manors."

"I can't imagine they went quietly to Malfoy Manor," Harry said, chuckling slightly.

"About as quietly as two stubborn girls could," Blaise huffed.

"Oi!" Ron exclaimed. "That's my sister!"

"Oh, tell me I'm wrong," Blaise said with a scowl. "Your entire family is stubborn; she's not going to be any different."

Ron glared at him but didn't say anything in response, stuffing his hands into his pockets with a low growl and looking away.

Draco rolled his eyes. "I see tonight's off to a great start."

Harry shrugged. "Could be worse."

"I suppose you're right." Draco looked back at Ron and asked, "Isn't your girlfriend an Auror too? Is she here tonight?"

"No, she's on another mission out in Scotland," Ron answered shortly.

"Out of curiosity," Blaise interrupted as he looked around. "Why are we in the ruins of a castle? This place looks like some of the walls would fall down if I breathe on them."

"I honestly could not tell you," Harry shrugged. "It was decided earlier and Daniels agreed to it."

"Daniels?" Draco asked, raising an eyebrow.

"The Head Auror," Harry said, pointing out the man in question behind them.

Draco and Blaise both cast a quick glance towards the older, scarred Auror who was chatting quietly with Kingsley behind them. His head was completely shaved which only showed more scars ranging in colors depending on their age. His expression was stern and Draco noticed that he seemed very on guard. Though, for an experienced Auror this probably was his instinct now.

Turning his attention back to the two Aurors in front of him, Draco sighed and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "So when are we doing this?"

"Should be soon," Harry answered as he looked around. "We're waiting on a couple more Aurors to show up and then it should be showtime."

"Good," Blaise said. "I want to get this over with so the girls aren't in danger anymore."

"I'm surprised you two aren't with them right now," Harry said, looking between the two Veelas. "I thought Veelas were extremely over-protective over their mates when the mate is threatened."

"Trust me, there is a lot of self-control at work right now," Draco said, gesturing with one of his hands. "I can't speak for Blaise, but I was ready to lock her up in our cellar until this all was finished."

Ron glared at Draco, who ignored the red head's evil look. Blaise nodded in agreement with Draco as he said, "It's hard to let them out of our sights right now, but knowing the girls do you think either one of them would have allowed us to be by their sides twenty-four-seven?"

"I seriously doubt you would have lasted very long doing that," Ron said in an icy tone.

"Alright, can we put aside the attitude for tonight?" Draco asked angrily. "We get it: you hate us and the fact that the girls are with us. But for Merlin's sake, the girls are in trouble. Quit being an ass for one night so that we can make sure nothing happens to them, and when this is all over by all means, hate us as much as you want."

Ron continued to glare at Draco but he didn't say anything in response. Blaise rolled his eyes and pulled a hand out of his pocket to rub his face in exasperation, letting out a deep breath. "Do we need to have this talk every time the four of us are in close proximity?"

Instead of answering, Ron was staring at Blaise. Or rather, Blaise's left hand.

"What is that?!" He hissed, pointing towards the wedding band on Blaise's hand.

Blaise immediately froze and cast a glance at his ring before slowly lowering his hand. "Come on, Weasley; you're smart enough to know exactly what it is."

Harry was staring quietly at the ring as well, his face expressionless. Ron, however, was fuming and his arms starting to shake as he said through gritted teeth, "You married my sister without her family there? Wow, great start to being a part of the family."

Blaise scoffed and turned to the side, shaking his head as he refused to acknowledge the comment. Draco scowled and said, "It was a rush decision that your sister made a little over a week ago after they were attacked in the dress shop."

"So what, she decided to get married all of a sudden without alerting any of us?" Ron exclaimed, gesturing between himself and Harry.

"She literally decided it in the middle of the night the day of the attack," Blaise sighed then, looking up at the sky. "She wanted to have a quick ceremony with just the four of us away from everything, and then after all of this was over she was going to have the big ceremony for all of you."

"Of course you were there," Ron fumed as he glared at Draco before turning his attention back to Blaise. "You had enough time to tell him and Hermione but not-"

"Ron!"

Harry silenced him with a glare as the entire area went silent. Ron was staring wide-eyed in front of him, barely breathing as the realization of what he said finally hit him. No one dared to move, waiting for something to happen. Draco thought he was going to go mad from the silence, but finally he saw movement out of the corner of his eye.

"Weasley!" Daniels was on them in a second, rage clear in his eyes. "You are suspended!"

"But-"

"You destroyed any chance we had of catching those Death Eaters tonight!" Daniels yelled. Then he turned around and yelled out, "Everyone, go home! Tonight's over!"

There were groans all around and Ron avoided everyone's eyes by looking down at the ground in shame. He immediately disapparated without another word, leaving the other three standing together.

Harry glared at the spot that Ron was previously standing in before turning to Draco and Blaise and sighing. "Well, at least now we know there isn't a Taboo on their names."

"I suppose that's the silver lining to this," Draco sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Though it doesn't really answer any questions on how they knew where to find the girls."

"No, but that can be saved for tomorrow," Harry said. "It's been a long enough night already and I'm sure the girls would like to leave Malfoy Manor."

Blaise chuckled and looked around. Most of the Aurors were gone already, including Kingsley and Daniels. There were maybe two or three still hanging around, but they were off in the distance grumbling to each other about how the plans failed.

He saw Harry move out of the corner of his eye and he jumped, looking down to see that Harry was extending his hand and staring at him.

Blaise reached out to take Harry's hand and shake it firmly, surprised. Harry simply said, "Please keep her safe."

Blaise nodded and asked in return, "Can you make sure he doesn't go and tell their family? Ginny really wanted to keep it a secret so that they wouldn't get upset, and she does want to have a large ceremony for them later."

"Of course," Harry nodded. Harry shook Draco's hand before quickly apparating away.

Letting out a sigh, Draco turned to Blaise and said, "See you shortly, I suppose."

The two Veelas then apparated away, landing in the living room of Malfoy Manor. They smiled as they heard laughter in one of the other rooms and quietly made their way down the hallway, looking in each room to try and find where their mates were.

They finally stopped in the doorway of the sitting room and the three women all jumped in surprise.

"Draco!" Hermione exclaimed. "You're back early!"

"Yeah," He shrugged, giving her a smile.

"What happened?" Ginny asked with a confused expression on her face.

"Oh, your brother got upset and accidentally said Hermione's name," Blaise sighed lightly as he stepped into the room. "Luckily though, we've determined that there isn't a Taboo on your names."

"That's a relief," Hermione said as Draco sat down next to her.

Ginny rubbed her face in frustration as she groaned, "I had a feeling Ron was going to ruin everything. What set him off?"

"He saw Blaise's wedding band," Draco answered, nodding towards Blaise.

"Wedding band?" Narcissa asked in surprise.

Ginny shot a glare to Draco who avoided her eyes and she sat down with a sigh as she said, "Yes, Blaise and I decided to get married last week after Hermione and I were attacked out in public. We were trying to keep it a secret so that my family doesn't find out and get upset, but now that Ron knows..."

She trailed off as she looked away, and Blaise could feel the mixture of frustration, anger, and sadness radiating off his mate. He took her hand and squeezed it, saying quietly, "Harry said he would make sure that your brother isn't going to tell the rest of your family."

Ginny looked at him in surprise and smiled slightly. "I hope he does. Ron's spilled our secrets before and I'd rather this one not get out any time soon."

"I'm sure Harry will make sure he doesn't say anything," Hermione said.

Narcissa was still staring at the couple on the couch next to her, her mouth open in shock. "When did this happen?!"

Blaise grinned. "The Saturday before last. We went to my mother's manor in Bora Bora and got married since Ginny didn't want to put it off in case something happened."

"That's so exciting!" She exclaimed happily, jumping up and rushing over to embrace them. "My Blaise is married!"

Blaise was grinning from ear to ear as he returned Narcissa's hug. Ginny couldn't help but giggle at Narcissa's excitement as the older witch pulled away from them and hurriedly said, "I have to tell Lucius! He's going to be so excited for you two! You must let us throw you a celebratory party!"

Ginny's smile faltered slightly and she hesitantly replied, "Can we wait until after we have the ceremony with everyone else? I don't want anyone to feel left out."

"Oh, of course!" Narcissa nodded. "We can certainly wait on it; after all, I'm sure your parents would want to be included in the planning!"

Then she looked over at Draco and Hermione, giving them a sly look. "And are you two secretly planning on getting married as well?"

"Oh no," Hermione answered quickly. "Not that I wouldn't mind it, but we haven't made any plans to."

Draco gave her a surprised look. "You wouldn't mind getting married soon?"

She shrugged and smiled at him. "Not really."

Blaise was about to say something when he felt a hum of jealousy come from Ginny. But as soon as he looked at her, the jealousy disappeared and he thought he felt regret and frustration. She didn't notice him looking at her as she said with a smile, "Well, if you do plan on getting married, let us know so that we can be there for you!"

Hermione  returned  her  friend's  smile.  "Of  course!"
