Chapter Seven

"You wanted to speak with me, Professor Greene?" She asked, nerves subtly eating away at her as she stood on the opposite side of the man's desk. The man looked up, a small smile gracing his lips as she stood to face her.

"Yes, I wanted to discuss your test scores." He nodded, a single strand of his raven hair falling to his forehead. Professor Uriah Greene was young, maybe 27; the girls in school fawned over him, but Aurelia had never paid much attention to his appearance. She just wanted to learn, as cliché as it may sound. "You're the highest scoring student, so far. I'm impressed, Aurelia; I never expected a kid to be so intelligent in their first year of-"

"Excuse me, Professor. . . did you just call me a kid?" She asked, releasing a false laugh as she stared challengingly at the man.

"Well, yeah. You're the youngest student I have, Aurelia. You're intelligent, but you're still a kid."

"Sorry, sir, but the last time I checked, everyone becomes an adult at the age of eighteen. I'm almost twenty; you're not even ten years older than me, please refrain from ever calling me a kid again."

"Aurelia, I-"

A knock on the classroom doorway interrupted the man, causing the two to turn and face the new arrival; Chris stood there, curious eyes as he glanced between his friend and her professor. "Did I interrupt something?" He asked, slowly walking to stand behind Aurelia; when he arrived, he placed a hand on her waist, sending a judgmental look toward Professor Greene.

"No." The man sighed, looking back toward the pink haired teen. "I, uh. . . I highly suggest that you change your hair color to something more. . . natural, before you graduate. It's highly difficult to find an agency that'll hire someone with such juvenile style."

"Yeah, well, I have four more years to think about that." Aurelia glared at the man, grabbing Chris' hand and angrily leading him from the classroom. The brunette was irritated by the interaction he'd just witnessed, but also confused as to what they were discussing before he showed up. His friend's face had already held a look of annoyance.

"What was that about?"

"He called me a kid." She muttered, slowing her pace as they approached her motorcycle. "I'm not a fucking kid."

"I mean, two years ago, you were."

"Almost three!" She snapped, waving her arms in exaggeration. Chris chuckled, earning a light punch to the shoulder from the teen; she froze as Chris dangled her keys above her head. "Oh, no. You are not driving my bike."

"Oh, but I am." He smirked, "I'm even wearing a leather jacket to look the part."

"That was your mistake," she smiled, playfully rolling her eyes as Chris hopped onto the bike before her. "Do you even know how to drive a motorcycle?"

"You'd be surprised what I had to learn how to do in the future."

"God, I'll never get used to that." She muttered, reluctantly climbing onto the bike behind him. She threw her hair into a messy bun, before wrapping her arms around him tightly. "If you kill me, I'm haunting the shit out of you."

"You act like I'd let you die." He chuckled, before speeding from the college campus.

...

They entered her apartment, laughing as Chris hung her keys by the door. "Ok, I'm sorry I doubted you. You actually drove pretty well. . . despite almost running over a dog."

"Almost." He reminded, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind as she had begun to make herself a smoothie. "So, got any homework, today?"

"Not necessarily," she smiled, turning in his arms and offering him the first bite of her sandwich. He accepted it, furrowing his brows as a signal for him to continue. "I, uh. . . kinda already did it all?"

He widened his eyes, swallowing the sandwich before walking to the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water. "What all did you do?"

"I had, like, four reports to do." She thought back, causing the man to widen his jade green eyes once more. "What? I'm not gonna wait 'til last minute to do them. I kind of like having a life outside of school and work."

He followed her into the living room, his jade green eyes swirling with admiration at her determination. They sat on the couch, Aurelia releasing a yawn as she finished her ham and cheese sandwich; Chris smiled as she threw her legs over the arm of the couch, resting her head on his right thigh as she looked up at him.

"You have pretty eyes." She spoke, her tone nonchalant, before breaking his gaze and pulling out a small box from her pocket.

"Thanks." He shrugged, watching her intently. He rolled his eyes, a playful grin dancing onto his lips as he watched her pull a pre-rolled joint from the small box. "How have I known you for three months and not known that you smoke?"

She shrugged, looking up at him as she lit it. "You wanna hit it?"

"Nah," he shook his head, "I'll pass. You go ahead, though."

"Oh, come on." She smiled, sitting up and facing him. "You can't have the nickname Shaggy and not smoke." She nudged it toward him slightly, "Just one hit, and I'll leave it be."

The brunette sighed, looking at the girl with a playfully defeated expression; his lips were still curved into that small smile that he'd had. "Fine, give it." He sighed, gently taking the joint from her fingers and taking a hit for about five seconds. He'd smoked, a couple times, in the future, so it's not like she popped his stoner cherry.

She smiled, taking it back from his fingers, and taking a much longer hit than he had. Her pink hair had fallen from the messy bun, sprawling over the couch as she laid her head back down. Aurelia looked into Chris' jade green eyes, blowing a puff of smoke in his face. He rolled his eyes, subconsciously running his fingers through her hair.

Aurelia looked to her CD player, swiftly throwing a penny at the play button; Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana began playing through the speakers, causing the pink haired teen to smile wide. She pulled Chris up from the couch, forcing the brunette to dance with her as the joint (rolled in a page from the Bible, by the way) dangled from her lips.

He couldn't remember the last time he'd smiled this much around someone, even when he was high. His jade green eyes observed the woman as he spun her around her apartment; the afternoon sun enveloped her, causing her hair to glow, her freckles to grow more visible, and her smile to shine beautifully.

Her eyes looked like molten chocolate, causing his heart to melt slightly as they proceeded to dance with one another. Chris had spun her once more, holding her waist as the song progressed; his eyes glanced to her lips, where she held the joint, a stupid idea flashing across his frontal lobe.

He dipped his head quickly, enrapturing his lips in her own, and swiftly taking the joint into his mouth as he pulled away. Aurelia realized what he'd done, releasing a blissful laugh as he spun her outwards once more.

Before spinning the teen inward toward his chest, he took another hit of the joint; when she swayed against his chest, laughing peacefully, he placed it back into her lips once more.

Chris had never seen Aurelia this happy.

Then it hit him: did they just kiss?
