"I'm thinking of quitting the Writing Club," I called out to Jungkook from the bedroom. He'd come home from work earlier than usual and was in the kitchen, brewing us some coffee.
"Why?" His voice carried curiosity from the other room. "I thought you enjoyed it." Closing my laptop, I decided to revisit the chapter I was working on later. Jungkonh1ok rarely finished work at five o'clock, and I was determined to seize the opportunity.
Walking into the kitchen, I came to a halt at the sight that greeted me. Jungkook's laptop was open, surrounded by scattered papers and clippings. "Um...," I looked up at him as he stirred sugar into his coffee, "I'm tired of missing out on weekends with you." I gestured toward the table. "What's all this?"
Handing me my coffee, he explained, "Wedding plans."
"Wedding plans?" It suddenly dawned on me.
Taking a seat in front of his laptop, Jungkook motioned for me to join him. "I decided to take charge of organizing the wedding, and you promised to assist. I won't finalize anything until I have your input."
I felt relieved that he had stepped in to handle the wedding plans, sparing us from Somi's enthusiastic takeover. Sipping my coffee, I settled down beside him and studied the materials spread out before us. Though it might seem like a bunch of clutter, each decision we made had significant financial implications. Splitting the wedding costs was a modern approach, given Jungkook's tendency to save money.
"So, what's on the plan?"
"The church is booked, but we need to make a decision about the reception venue." Jungkook swiveled the laptop to face me. "I'm leaning towards the King Hotel. I've already gotten some pricing. What do you think?"
I glanced over the PDF the hotel had provided, momentarily distracted when the doorbell rang. Shortly after, the sound of the door opening confirmed it was either Somi or Adam, her hubby. "It's me!" Somi's voice carried through. "Before I come any farther, are you both dressed?"
Laughing, I reassured her that we were presentable. At some point, she'd gotten the impression that Jungkook and I were only ever engaged in passionate endeavors.
Somi walked in with a bag of fragrant food. "Jungkook mentioned the wedding plans. I brought Indian takeout!"
"Even though you're no longer officially on wedding duty, I'll allow you to stay because of the food," I joked, rising to help her dish out the meal.
"I promise to behave," Somi chuckled. "But it's just too exciting. I had to witness the decision-making in action."
"Those decisions are non-negotiable," Jungkook chimed in, casting a stern look Somi's way. "That's why I ended up as the wedding planner."
"I'll be on my best behavior," Somi assured. "Oh, and I brought these." She handed me a white plastic bag as I juggled the plates.
Curiously, I peered into the bag. "What's inside?"
"Candles." Somi shrugged off her jacket. "This place seems a bit bare since I moved out. I thought some candles might add warmth."
Sharing an amused glance with Jungkook, I set the bag on the counter. Somi was known for her love of decoration. Her idea of "bare" wasn't quite the same as most people's. "We're aiming for minimalism, but thank you."
Glancing over Jungkook's shoulder at the laptop screen, Somi cooed, "The King Hotel? What's your take, future sister-in-law?"
"It's lovely," I replied genuinely. Having already reviewed the pictures, I had decided to simply support Jungkook's ideas. It would streamline the process, especially considering our aligned tastes.
"Yeah?" Jungkook inquired, seeking my opinion.
"Absolutely," I confirmed, stepping forward with a plate of curry and rice. My gaze briefly dropped to the floor. I couldn't help but smile when I noticed Somi's footwear. Addressing Somi, I couldn't resist teasing, "Have you examined your shoes lately?"
Baffled, Somi glanced downward and sighed in realization. "Darn it."
Amused, Jungkook also glanced down after accepting his plate, only to start choking on his curry. I couldn't help but laugh.
Somi had unknowingly put on two different shoes – one brown and one black, both similar in style. "I've been wandering around town like this all day."
Jungkook and I burst into laughter, the sight of Somi's mismatched shoes providing a lighthearted moment amidst the wedding planning chaos.
"Well, at least you've showcased your unique fashion statement," I teased Somi as she rolled her eyes playfully.
Jungkook, still chuckling, managed to recover from his brief choking fit. "You really know how to make an entrance, Somi."
She huffed in mock offense. "It's called 'embracing individuality.' And if you both don't stop laughing, I may just have to declare mismatched shoes as the latest fashion trend. Who's with me?"
Jungkook and I exchanged amused glances before bursting into another round of laughter. Somi's playful threat to start a fashion revolution over her mismatched shoes was just the kind of humor we needed to lighten the atmosphere.
"Sorry, sorry," I managed to say between giggles. "We promise, we'll stop laughing. But I must admit, you're making a strong case for the mismatched look."
Jungkook wiped a tear of mirth from his eye. "Yeah, I can see it now: 'Somi's Mismatched Madness.' It could be a hit!"
Somi grinned mischievously, playing along. "Exactly! The latest trend that's so cutting-edge, even your feet won't know what to do."
"But I doubt many people noticed your feet, Somi."
She kicked off her shoes on the shoe rack, and we all settled around the table, eating and planning. Well, Jungkook had done all the planning, so it was mostly just me nodding my head to his suggestions and covering Somi's mouth when she got too vocal in her opinions over the flowers.
We were just winding down when Somi's phone rang. It was Adam, requesting her company, although, from the way she blushed, I doubted the request was that polite or lacking in sexual innuendo.
She got up hurriedly, giving me a smile and her brother a kiss on the cheek. "This was fun. Thanks for letting me crash it. Speak soon!" She floated out of the kitchen, in her mind already out of the flat and with Adam.
"Tell Adam I said hey!" I called to her.
"Will do!" The door slammed in her wake.
I pushed my plate away, cupping my chin in my palm as I smiled at Jungkook. "Thank you for doing all this."
"You're welcome." His smile turned into a yawn. He ran a hand through his hair, looking exhausted. "The only thing left to plan is the Bachelor party."
"Won't Somi and Adam be organizing those?"
"Aye, at least that's something." I huffed. "That's okay for you to say. I doubt Adam is going to arrange an elegant tea party for yours."
"Nah," Jungkook grinned. "Casino night."
I pouted. "I want a casino night."
"Have a casino night. I'll get Adam to nudge Somi in the right direction."
"We can't end up in the same place for our parties."
Jungkook leaned toward me, his gaze curious. "Why not?"
Surprised by the question since I thought the answer was pretty straightforward, I blinked a few times. "Uh, because it's supposed to be a symbolic evening where we celebrate our last night of singledom."
"But we're not single. We're married without the certificate. Let's change the symbolism of it. We'll celebrate together. We'll celebrate how we mean to go on for the rest of our lives."
I loved the way he looked at me. So full of... everything. "You could charm the pants off absolutely anyone," I told him quietly.
He smirked. "I take it that means you like the idea?"
"I love the idea. I love everything you've said. But I know Somi's excited about this, so we're going to give our friends what they want."
"Adam mentioned strippers," Jungkook warned me, his eyes twinkling.
"If Adam books a stripper for you, I'll force Somi to book a stripper for me."
Chuckling, Jungkook relaxed back in his chair. "Let's agree to no strippers."
I raised my glass of water and waited for Jungkook to do the same. "To no strippers."
"To no strippers," he repeated.
"And let's just make that a motto for our marriage."
Laughing, Jungkook nodded. "I can guarantee it."
I gestured to our plans and gave him a smile. "So are we done for the night? Can we lounge in front of a movie now?"
"Definitely."
Together, we cleaned our dishes and cleared the wedding plans away. Half an hour later, we lay on the sofa together, my head on Jungkook's chest, his arm around my back, as we watched an action movie on pay-per-view.
Forty minutes in, I tilted my head back to look into his face and said, "Sometimes I can't believe that I get to do this with you for the rest of my life."
Surprised at my sentiment, Jungkook looked at me, eyes glittering with amusement. "What? Watch a movie?""Yes," I answered honestly. "Lie in your arms and watch a crappy movie. It might seem simple to other people, but it's everything
