Chapter 83
Pop's had a lot of people in on a particular morning and Callie was on duty. She walked around setting down plates and pouring coffee.
" Good morning Ginger and Tina," Callie greeted as she poured coffee.
" Good morning Callie," the two greeted.
" So Callie," Ginger began.
" You and Mantle have been awfully close," Tina informed. " Are you two?
" No," Callie denied with a head shake. " But we did booty call each other before him and Veronica finally got together."
" Callie!" the two girls squealed.
" Shhh!" Callie shushed them. " Word can't get out."
" And why not?" Ginger asked as she sipped her coffee.
" I don't want Pea brain to know," Callie answered.
" You two are broken up though," Tina reminded her. " And you never go back."
" We haven't even been broken up that long," Callie said.
" A little over a month," Ginger counted.
" Just don't kiss and tell," Callie warned as the door opened. The door opened and in walked Mr. Mason with Moose.
" Good morning Officer Mason and Moose," Callie greeted with a smile.
" Good morning Callie," they nodded at her before walking over to the McCoy/Keller table. Callie's phone then went off along with with all the other juniors that were in the dinner. Sweet Pea walked with Fangs, both checking their phones. Callie's pull out her phone and she gasped.
"Our SAT scores," Callie gasped, she worked so hard, hopefully, the scores can get her into a good college. " Veronica, I'm going on break."
" Don't be too long," Veronica said.
" I won't," Callie said. She then stepped out and got into her brother's car. She tapped all the right buttons on her phone and minutes later she was staring at her SAT scores. Her score highly represented her hard work, it was a perfect score. " YES!" There was a tapping on the door, she jumped and saw Sweet Pea. She unlocked the door to let him in.
" What score did you get?" Sweet Pea asked as he closed the door after getting in.
" With my GPA and my SAT score, I can practically get into any college I want," Callie said.
" So perfect," Sweet Pea gathered.
" Yeah," Callie smiled. " How did you do?"
" Not as good as you," Sweet Pea groaned.
" Let me see," Callie insisted. He showed her phone.
" That's really good Sweet Pea," Callie said.
" You think so?" Sweet Pea asked.
" It's highly good," Callie assured. " All that last week studying really paid off."
" I had a perfect teacher," Sweet Pea said as he smiled a little.
" I wouldn't say perfect," Callie shook her head.
" Thank you, Shortstop," Sweet Pea said looking at her. " I'm now considered smart."
" You may be smart, but you still a dumb-dumb," Callie said.
" I'm the dumb-dumb?" Sweet Pea laughed.
" You still hit your head on doorways because you forget to bend down a little," Callie reminded him. He then attacked with tickling fingers, she laughed. They then stopped, she was against the window, and he was really close. She stared deep into his eyes, she had an urge to drop her morals and kiss him. That thought quickly got interrupted by a repeated banging on the car, right outside the window was Veronica.
" Breaks over," Veronica informed before banging on the car more. The two separated.
" See you inside," Callie said.
" Yeah," Sweet Pea agreed.

Callie was now at home drinking some tea when there was a knock at the door, Vegas barked. She got up looked through the peephole, opened it and saw Josie.
" What honors do I have to our own Beyonce at my door?" Callie asked.
" I needed advice from our own Kim Possible," Josie said.
" Tea?" Callie asked.
" Please," Josie agreed. After getting her tea the two girls sat down.
" What's on your mind?" Callie asked.
" Well as you know my mom and Kevin's dad is getting married," Josie informed. " And I need a date for the wedding, but I'm running blanks."
" Ask Sweet Pea," Callie suggested. ' Why did I just say that' She thought to herself.
" Sweet Pea?" Josie asked.
" He probably has nothing important to do that night," Callie said.
" But you two broke up," Josie said.
" And I'm telling you to ask him," Callie pointed out.
" And if he says no?" Josie asked.
" Archie," Callie suggested. " I know you two kissed."
" You do?" Josie asked with wide eyes.
"Archie tells me everything," Callie said. " Do you like him?"
" I don't really want to get into a serious relationship," Josie said. " I just want to focus on my music."
" Don't be so focused that you lose track of people important to you," Callie advised. " That's probably why Sweet Pea broke it off, I was so focused on trying to solve everything, that I ended up pushing him away."
" Don't beat yourself up over it," Josie advised. " Besides I saw the way you two were looking at each other while at Pops." Callie blushed and sipped her tea.

Late that night as Callie worked on her murder board, Josie went to Sweet Pea's trailer.
" Hey, Sweet Pea," Josie greeted as she knocked and stepped in. He was reading the book.
" What dealings do you have, that you are coming by?" Sweet Pea asked as he looked up.
" Um, I don't know if you heard, but my mom is getting married to Kevin's dad," Josie informed. " And I wanted to know if you would be my date to the wedding."
"As your boyfriend?" Sweet Pea asked oddly.
" Or just a date," Josie insisted.
" Josie, as much as I want to, I heard you don't want a serious relationship from everyone. And I'm not ready to jump into that type of merry go round with you, I'm not built that way," Sweet Pea said. " Maybe not that makes me needy."
" Are you saying no because you don't want to go jump on a merry go around and come off needy or your not over Callie?"
" Both," Sweet Pea admitted as she sat down. " I can't get her out of my head, it's been a little over a month, and yet it seems like it was just yesterday I kissed her for the first time. Every time I kissed her, it felt like the first time. The same amount of fireworks, maybe even more."
" Have you thought about asking for her back?" Josie asked.
" It was hard the first time, and with her morals, it's probably impossible," Sweet Pea said.
" Not impossible," Josie said. " But it will be difficult. I was just talking to her earlier."
" You were?" Sweet Pea asked. "Did she send you to me?"
" She suggested it," Josie said. " She said you probably don't have anything important going on the day or night of the wedding."
" If she told you to ask me, then there's no chance of getting back together," Sweet Pea said sadly.
" Don't give up yet," Josie advised. " She seemed to have a look of regret when she suggested you." He furrowed his eyebrows.
" Did she suggest anyone else?" Sweet Pea asked.
" Archie," Josie answered.
" Josie," Sweet Pea breathed. " Don't tell Callie I said any of this."
" I won't," Josie laughed before getting up.

Callie was now in the bathroom at school, she fixing her makeup, she was running a little bit late that morning. Archie tried to make toast again.
" Attention, students," Cheryl said over the PA. " It's time for the daily announcements. As Riverdale Hugh's first openly lesbian Student Body President, I'm announcing the launch of a new club, an LGBTQIA Alliance, with the mission to find and support our fellow queer and questioning students. In that spirit, this week's blind item will be on theme. A certain oh-so-hunky, all-American RROTC cadet is afraid to come out of the closet. Well, let's show this cadet that Riverdale High is welcoming, so and his Broadway-loving boyfriend can finally PDA like the other sex-crazed couples dwelling amongst us. Also, for lunch today we're having Shepherd's Pie. Thank you." Moments later Cheryl came into the bathroom.
" You were talking about Moose, weren't you?" Callie asked.
" He needed a little push," Cheryl said. " Kevin is tired of having to hide their relationship. Then the bathroom doors opened and Toni stormed in angrily.
" It's my cue to leave," Callie said as she threw things in her bag and quickly left the bathroom. When she left she ran into Sweet Pea. " Hey."
" Why?" Sweet Pea asked as they walked down the hall.
" Why what?" Callie asked. He pulled her to the side and into an empty hallway. " What?"
" Why did you to Josie to ask me to be her wedding date?"
" So she would have someone to go with," Callie answered. " I didn't think it would be a problem."
"Well, it is," Sweet Pea said.
" What exactly do you have going on that day?" Callie asked.
" What if I didn't want to go?" Sweet Pea asked.
" That's why you have the ability to say no," Callie said. " I was just helping a friend out."
" It seemed to me like you were trying to make me move on to someone else," Sweet Pea said.
" And what if I was?" Callie asked.
" You're unbelievable," Sweet Pea groaned as he ran his hand through his hair.
" Why?" Callie asked.
" Don't do it again," Sweet Pea growled.
" I won't," Callie huffed, then her phone went off.
" Let me guess another girl you're trying to get me to be with," Sweet Pea said.
" No," Callie said as she made a weird face. " It's Mr. Jones."
*****
Minutes later the two of them stood in front of Fp's desk at the station, the door was closed.
" What is it, Mr. Jones?" Sweet Pea asked.
" I was needing Callie's help," Fp admitted. " But you can help as well."
" What is that you need?" Callie asked.
" I am meeting up with particular parents and I need you to listen in on the convo," FP requested.
"Huh?" Sweet Pea breathed.
" Do you have those mic thingys?" Fp asked.
" Yeah," Callie said as set her backpack down, she got no her knees and rummage through it. By the time she stood up with the items, she saw FP with his case off his phone. " You sure know what to do."
" Jughead," Fp breathed, it made sense. Callie then hooked up the things and then put the phone case back on.
" I'll be able to hear anything that is being said," Callie informed. " Any voice, any noise."
"One more thing," Fp said as he handed Sweet Pea a folder. " Read these release papers once you get home."
" Will do," Sweet Pea said oddly.
" Thanks, Callie," FP said. " You seem to do this a lot, thought I get a piece of listening action."
" Anytime Mr. Jones," Callie smiled. The two then left the office, Sweet Pea went to go open the folder, Callie stopped him.
"They're just releasing papers," Sweet Pea said.
" He said when we get home," Callie reminded him, if she couldn't read it there, then it was important to be done in secret. The two went to the Andrews room house and up to Callie's room. Once they were sure no one else was there, Sweet Pea opened the folder.
" It's an invitation," Sweet Pea said as he pulled it out.
" Read it," Callie requested.
" A blessed event is coming this way, you must reunite with your Midnight Club to complete Ascension Night once and for all," Sweet Pea read, he then paused.
" Is that all?" Callie asked.
" T...." Sweet Pea began.
"Go on," Callie urged.
" Tell no one, or your children will pay the price," Sweet Pea read. " Best wishes, The Gargoyle King." He then stood up. " Why would he risk telling us?"
" He must have a good reason," Callie stated, she was Fred's daughter. If anyone were to find out FP spilled the beans, all the Midnight Club children would be in danger.
" I thought Tall Boy was the King," Sweet Pea said.
" Not the real deal," Callie said.
" What do you mean?" Sweet Pea asked.
" It's like with the Black Hood," Callie said. " There's more than one."
" More than one?" Sweet Pea asked.
" It's like in a video game, you meet a bunch of bosses, and you have to defeat them to get to the final boss," Callie explained.
" So Warden Norton was level one and Tall Boy was level two," Sweet Pea said.
" No," Callie denied as she put earbuds in her phone. " Tall Boy was level one, the Norton was just a pawn." She sat down and put a bud in her ear, she then patted the seat next to her. Sweet Pea grabbed a pen and paper sat down and put the other bud in his ear. He gave Callie the notepad so she could take notes.
" So we all received letters then," Mr. Keller's voice came in. " To finish Ascension Night?"
" Good timing," Sweet Pea whispered, she covered his mouth.
" This was taped to my trailer," Dad informed.
" Mine came to the dealership," Mr. Mantle informed.
" Thought you caught the Gargoyle King, FP?" Hermione recalled.
" Tall Boy was using the game as a cover to deal drugs, but he wasn't the one running around setting up chalices back when we were in high school," FP explained.
" We're not really taking this seriously, are we?" Mayor Lodge asked.
" I think we have to assume that this is real, if only for our kids' sake," Mr. Keller advised.
" And then what?" Hermione asked. " I mean, we're just supposed to leave them home alone all night while we run around pretending to be teenagers again?"
" May I remind you what happened last Ascension Night?" Alice brought up. " Someone ended up dead."
" We don't have a choice in the matter," Penelope informed. " We all know why this happening again, and now. Two members of the original Midnight Club are daring to get married, to be happy, and the Gargoyle King, whoever or whatever he is, wants to destroy that. He is a vicious and petty god, and if we don't finish the game now, the Gargoyle Kin is never gonna leave us alone."
" Yeah, maybe if we do this, we can catch the son of a bitch," Fp hoped.
" There's only one problem..." Ms. McCoy brought up. " The letter says we all have to participate."
" I'll talk to Hiram," Hermione confirmed.
" All right, well, it's settled then," Mr. Keller confirmed. " We finish the game we started." The conversation ended, earbuds came out and the two teenagers looked at each other.
" When the parents go out for that night," Callie began. " Can you stay with me?"
" You have my word," Sweet Pea confirmed as he took her hand.
