Chapter 75
The next morning Callie woke up the sounds of sirens and the sound of pounding on the door. Callie groggily walked downstairs and opened the door revealing Sheriff Minetta.
" I have a warrant to search your house," Sheriff Minetta said he showed his badge.
" At not even 6 am?" Callie asked as she rubbed her eyes.
" I have every right to believe you are hiding Archie Andrews," Sheriff Minetta argued as he barged right passed her. " He's an escaped convict, highly dangerous." A dog passed her and began to sniff around the room.
"Why would a highly dangerous convict hide in his own home?" Callie asked as she crossed her arms.
" Ms. Andrews," a voice said, she turned her head to see Mr. Lodge standing at her door. " Your brother isn't the brightest, I have every right to suspect that he is hiding here and that you are hiding him."
" I don't know where my brother is," Callie said, eyes narrowing.
" Where were you at the time of the breakout?" Sheriff Minetta asked her.
" I was in the garage studying," Callie answered.
" I have every right to suspect your lying to me," Mr. Lodge growled. A hand landed on Callie, and pulled her back, her dad walked forward.
" If you dig your claws into another one my kids, not enough money in the world would save you," Dad warned. " Finish your search and get out my house."
" I would like to talk to your daughter alone," Mr. Lodge requested.
" No way," Dad denied.
" It's fine Dad," Callie assured him. " I am my mother's daughter, I can hold my ground against monsters." Fred looked at her carefully before walking towards the kitchen.
" I am not monster Callie Andrews," Mr. Lodge said.
" Strong words coming from a man that placed a false murder trial on my brother and threw him into juvie," Callie said.
" It was not false," Mr. Lodge denied.
" I know it was false, cause Archie came to me that night," Callie stated. " How he was told to walk away, and when he got far enough he heard the gunshot."
" I'm pretty sure that was just a fib," Hiram scoffed.
" I do not lie to my twin and my twin does not lie to me," Callie said. " If he did, I would know, and he was not lying." A dog barked at the top of a room at a door.
" So, he's not hiding here?" Hiram questioned.
" Archie lived here for the past 16 years, of course, there will be scents of Archie in his room and this whole house," Callie said.
" Archie escaped and Warden Norton is dead," Hiram told her.
" Dead?" Callie asked.
" Killed himself last night," Hiram informed. " Found with blue lips."
" And should I suspect that you have something to do with his death?" Callie asked as she scanned the man's face for answers.
" I would be careful who you point the finger at," Hiram warned. " From this point forward I will be watching your every move Ms. Andrews. I will not make the same mistakes the Ghoulies, and Nick St. Clair made." He then left the house. Soon all the dogs left the house and Callie slammed the door shut.
" Should I be worried?" Dad asked as he walked up and handed her a cup of tea.
" Thanks," Callie breathed. " You don't have to be worried, I got my family and friends, and not to mention the Serpents."
" You still think Sweet Pea will look after you, after your break up?" Dad asked.
" I still trust Sweet Pea with my life Dad," Callie said. " He will come for me if anything happems."
" Maybe you shouldn't go to school today," Dad proposed. " You didn't go after you and Reggie broke up."
" I have to go," Callie said. " That will just make them suspicious that I actually do know where Archie is, and they will bug you more."
" I can handle be hounded by cops," Dad told her. " Do you know where Archie is?"
" I wish I did," Callie lied. " I miss that carrot head." Dad laughed. " Dad? Did you know Warden Norton?"
" He was the ROTC guy at Riverdale while I was in High school," Fred answered. " I heard Hiram say that he died, blue lips."
" He was playing G&G," Callie stated. " He has ties with Mr. Lodge, which makes me suspect that he also played the game. Did you?"
" I had no time for such games," Fred lied. " I had to focus on taking care of Grandpa Artie and support my family."

Hours later Callie now sat in class as Sheriff Minetta talked to everyone about Archie, she sat in between to Josie and Reggie and in front of Cheryl.
" Archie is a murderer, and we know he didn't escape alone," Sheriff Minetta announced. " He had help. Hiding a convict or withholding information from the law is a felony offense. So, whoever's aided and abetted Archie Andrews is just as much of a criminal as he is."
" I was busy all day, Sheriff," Reggie spoke up. " You can check my browser history. If you know what I mean." Everyone laughed, the Sheriff then stopped in front of Callie's desk, everyone looked at her.
" How about you Ms. Andrews?" Sheriff Minetta asked. " You are his twin, you probably know his every move, where were you at the time of the breakout?"
" As I told you this morning, I was at home studying," Callie answered as she looked him dead in the eye.
" Why are you harassing her about this subject?" Cheryl asked.
" Leave her alone," Sweet Pea ordered as he tensed up.
" She's the twin of Archie Andrews, I have every right to keep a close eye on her," Sheriff Minetta said.
" I don't even know this Archie person," Evelyn spoke up. " And on Mondays, I host a group for teen Farmies. We are still accepting members."
" Where were you, Miss McCoy at the time of the breakout?" Sheriff Minetta went and stood in front of Josie's desk.
" Don't look at me, sir," Josie requested. " I, uh...I...I was in the music room praticing."
"Alone?" Sheriff Minetta questioned. She started breathing faster.
" I'll be looking into all of your alibis, especially yours Ms. Andrews," Sheriff Minetta told them. " And if I find out later that someone in here was involved." He learned at Josie's desk, getting closer to her in a threatening way. " Then you can say goodbye to this school, your hopes, and dreams, your music, your entire future. All of it goes away just like that." Josie was shaking and as Sheriff Minetta stood back up. " So, again, to be clear, if you know anything that-" Josie then tilted her head back and went into a seizure.
" Sheriff Minetta, back off!" Cheryl demanded as jumped out of her desk and ran to Josie. Her head slammed into the table, and then she jolted back up, she shook for a bit before going on conscious, Cheryl caught her.
" What just happened?" a boy asked. " My God, is she okay?" Callie exchanged glances with Jughead with worry. After class Callie sat on the floor of the Blue and Gold room with Jughead and Betty. They many books opened.
" As if things weren't crazy enough," Jughead stated.
" I know," Betty agreed. " First me, then Ethel, then Josie." What's the connection there?"
" Speaking of connections, with Warden Norton dead, is there goes our theory of him as the Gargoyle King," Jughead groaned.
" Maybe not," Callie said. " Dad told me he was the ROTC instructor while at Riverdale."
" Yeah, the same year our parents started the Midnight Club," Betty showed them a page on the yearbook. " What this proves once more, is that our parents continue to hide things from us, and it all started with the Midnight Club, Jug and Cal."
" Featherhead was the first blue-lipped death on record," Callie recalled from the file. " Somehow me and Betty need to get our parents to start talking to us."
" Force them into telling us the truth," Betty added. " Even if that means backing them into a corner."
" What do you two have in mind?" Jughead asked.
" Depends whether or not I can borrow Veronica's Speakeasy," Betty answered.
" Okay, well, while you're working on that, I'm going to rally the serpents," Jughead declared. " We have to find Joaquin, As Norton's accomplice, he's probably our best shot at figuring on what was going on inside Norton's mind."
" Let me know when you find him, " Callie requested.
" Shouldn't you go see Archie?" Betty asked.
" Mr. Lodge is watching my every move, I probably shouldn't go see Archie," Callie sighed. " No matter how much I want too."
" I will keep you updated," Jughead agreed. " Bye." He then left.
" How should we gather our parents?" Betty asked.
" Your mother mentioned that they all got invitations," Callie brought up.
" On it," Betty nodded. The two sent out invitations as Betty filled her in on everything, now the two were heading down to the speakeasy, on the phone with Kevin. Archie's wound was infected. " It's okay, Kevin. He's a doctor. We can trust him. Oh, and pay in small bills." She then hung up the phone, then they both walked down into the Speakeasy. They saw all the Midnight Club members gathered.
" Elizabeth," Ms. Cooper stated.
" Callie?" Dad asked. Both parents walked towards their children.
" Don't tell me you two caused this," Ms. Cooper requested.
" We sent the invitations from the Gargoyle King," Betty admitted.
" What?" Dad demanded as Mr. Lodge slammed his invitation down on the table.
" And, look, you all came," Callie pointed out.
" What are you two up to?" Ms. Cooper demanded.
" All of the secrets end now, Mom," Betty ordered. " And this was the only way to do it, to get all of you together."
" Someone in this room is a murderer," Callie said bluntly. All the adults looked at each other.
" Alice, we promised each other we would never talk about this," Ms. Lodge scolded Ms. Cooper. " I mean, who else did you tell?"
" I told Betty and Callie to protect them," Alice defended herself. " So they wouldn't play the game."
" And it worked," Betty confirmed. " We're not playing the game."
" But many of your kids are," Callie informed.
" This is about protecting them," Betty informed. " Don't you care?"
" Care?" Ms. McCoy chocked. " Josie had a seizure this morning. I dhould be with her right now. Not here rehashing the past when it has zero relevance."
"Attorney McCoy, it is relevant," Callie stated. " Your daughter is playing the game, along with Kevin and Cheryl, and even your own son Reggie, Mr. Mantle, no matter how many black eyes you give him."
" I would never hit my son," Mr. Mantle denied.
" Another lie," Callie sighed.
" Guys, it was bound to get out sometime," Dad admitted. " Our children need to know the truth. So, Callie, Betty, where do we start?"
"With the dead warden from Archie's juvie," Betty answered. " He was also the ROTC instructor when you guys were in high school. Mr. Keller, you were a cadet at the time. Did you play the game with him?"
" Major Norton just confiscated it," Mr. Keller answered. " A stray manual, that's all."
" Mr. Lodge, you had business with Warden Norton until he died," Callie brought up. " What were they? And did you know that he was playing G&G?"
"None of your business, and not a clue," Mr. Lodge answered as he glared at her.
" And what about Ascension Night? Was he there?" Callie asked. He drilled her with questions earlier that morning, it was her turn.
" How are we supposed to answer that?" Fp asked. " We were all high off our gourds hallucinating gargoyles."
" Wait, Fp," Ms. Cooper said as she leaned toward him. " You saw it too?"
" Oh, this is such a waste of our time," Hiram groaned. " And actually have a job that I need to get back to, so if you'll excuse me."
" No, Hiram," Ms. Lodge protested as she stood up and grabbed his arm. " Let's just get this over with. Otherwise, it will never end." She turned towards both girls. " Betty, Callie, you both wanna know who poisoned the chalice." The two girls nodded. " The Game Master is the one who sets up the game. So, my instinct is telling me that the culprit was Penelope Blossom. My guess is maybe she grew the poison in her greenhouse."
" You don't grow cyanide, Hermione," Ms. Blossom informed.
" A fact that only a Blossom would know," Ms. Lodge stated. Ms. Blossom then slowly stood up.
" It was Daryl Doiley," Ms. Blossom announced, everyone looked at each other. " We were both Game Masters, and he was secretly in love with me. He put poison in the chalice because he wanted us to ascend together. But I said no. I assumed the chalices were emptied afterward, but they were not. Years later, Daryl came to me riddled with guilt over the tragic incident and seeking comfort. And I refused him again. We were both married with families and I was afraid, you see, of revisiting that unholy night. The next day he was found dead in his garage, sitting in his sedan, engine running, windows up."
" Dilton Doiley's dead dad did it?" Betty asked.
" Well, that explains how Dilton got his hands on the game," Ms. Cooper confirmed. " And why he started playing it." Callie saw Ms. Blossom smile mischievously.
" No, Callie protested. " That doesn't explain who the Gargoyle King is today."
" Callie, Jughead, and I saw him," Betty informed.
" What do you mean, you saw him?" Fp asked shocked.
" In fox forest, and we've trying to track him down ever since," Callie answered.
"Why do you think Jughead started playing the game?" Betty asked.
He's not still playing is he?" Jughead asked.
" I'm afraid so, Mr. Jones," Betty answered. " And he made really weird connections between the game and Riverdale, which he wouldn't have--"
" Look, I've heard enough of this," Fp growled. " That boy is going to be the death of me." He rushed out of the room, all the other parents followed besides Alice and Fred.
" Satisfied, Elizabeth?" Ms. Cooper asked angrily.
" How about you Callie?" Fred asked as he crossed his arms.
" No, Mom," Betty answered as Callie shook her head.
" Not even close," Callie said as Alice and Fred left. Both girls looked at each other. Callie then felt her phone vibrate, she took it out and saw that it was Sweet Pea.
" Pea?" Callie asked as she walked farthest away from the entrance. " Centerville Serpents spotted Joaquin at the Last Resort Youth Hostel."
" Grab him," Callie requested.
" On it," Sweet Pea told her. " We will wait for word from Jughead as well."
"Be careful," Callie wished.
" Always am," Sweet Pea answered before hanging up.
