Chapter 35

Callie now sat on the student lounge reading the newspaper, it was about a letter taped to the door of Pop's shop. It was from the Black Hood and it was chilling. It read:

People of Riverdale, I have rid this town of drug-dealing child-killer and others like him. Now you must choose your fate. The next 48 hours will be a test. And I will be watching very closely. Show me you are pure of heart, and my work ends. Continue to sin and I will take up the sword again.

Callie put her newspaper down, everyone wore the same frightened look on their faces.

"Callie?" Kevin asked as he sat next to her.

"Hm," she sounded looking at him.

"I can teach you how to fight a little," Kevin advised. " But manly just moves I know from the wrestling team."

"You would?" Callie asked.

" I'm guessing you no longer want to be Cinderella, you want to be more like Merida," Kevin stated.

"Exactly, I'm glad somebody gets it" Callie smiled." But this needs to be kept a secret, the serpents do not want me learning how to fight at all."

" Just meet me in the gym after school," Kevin told her.

"Thanks, Kev," Callie thanked him. Later that night Callie was in the gym, waiting on Kevin. As she waited she heard the door opened, she looked up to see the janitor.

" Hello Mr. Svenson," Callie greeted.

" Practicing for cheer?" Mr. Svenson asked.

" A little," Callie answered. " I am also working out with Kevin."

"Well do not work too hard," Mr. Svenson wished her before leaving.  Kevin soon came in and set up a punching bag.

"Okay, you need to use your whole body," Kevin advised. " Keep tension in your hips." After an hour or so, they are both extremely sweaty, Callie checks to see that it was late.

" Thank you, Kevin," Callie said as they left the gym.

"No word about this to anyone right?" Kevin asked.

" Especially the Serpents," Callie confirmed. " Especially Sweet Pea, I don't want to face his wrath. If he ever finds out I did this behind his back."

" Not a word out of my mouth," Kevin promised her. " Oh, I know you hear this a lot, but be careful with the Serpents. I dated one and you shouldn't risk going through the same thing."

The next day Callie walked to her locker feeling a little sore.

"How are you feeling today?" Kevin asked walking up to her.

"A little sore," Callie admitted. " But I think the training from last night will pay off."

"Couple more meetups and you should be able to punch a guy to the floor," Kevin laughed.

"Shh," Callie shushed him.

"Ther serpents are the all the in Southside High, the won't be able to hear a thing," Kevin pointed out.

"Can you meet up tonight?" Callie asked.

" We are going to take it slow," Kevin advised. " Otherwise the serpents will see that you are learning how to fight."

" You are not wrong," Callie agreed.

Later that night Callie was preparing to go check out that house that Jughead wanted her to check out. The house in Fox Forest from the story that the farm guy told her. She heard a knock on her window, she immediately walked over and knocked on it.

" Is it true?" Sweetpea asked when he walked in, he seemed a bit angry.

" Is what true?" Callie asked as she put on her shoes.

" That you had Kevin teach you how to fight," Sweet Pea stated crossing his arms.

" How did you find out about that?" Callie asked.

" So it is true," Sweet Pea hissed.

" Well after that note the black hood posted, Kevin offered to teach me," Callie explained.

"You went behind my back," Sweet Pea growled angrily.

" I don't want to be a damsel in distress anymore," Callie argued, " I want to be able to fight my own battles."

"What's wrong with having the serpents protect you?" Sweetpea asked as began to walk away.

"Because of what happened last time," Callie answered. " You guys were all locked up, I tried to punch Malachai, but he was able to stop me."

"Why were you on the southside anyways?" Sweetpea asked.

" Well I was hoping Toni, and the others were out when I got there," Callie admitted. " But I ended running into more trouble, and I was not even to defend myself. You can be mad all you want. The serpents can be mad at me as much as they want too."

"Just don't do it again," Sweetpea warned her. " But I guess I see your side of things now." He looked to see she was ready to walk out and had a flashlight in her hand. " What do you think you are doing?"

" A favor for Jughead," Callie answered. " Some creepy farmer told him about this Riverdale reaper that murdered this family. In this house in Fox Forest. I was going to go check it out."

"And you were going to go alone?" Sweetpea asked.

"Yes," Callie answered.

" Callie!" Sweetpea hissed.

"Then come with me if you are so against me going, " Callie suggested. " You are controlling, just like Reggie."

" Don't compare me to that filth of a person of a bulldog," Sweetpea growled at her.

"Well you can't stop me from going, so either join or leave," Callie said.

"I'm going," Sweetpea stated. " There are still ghoulies out, no way will I let them get a hold of you again."

"Let's go," Callie said. " We're burning darkness." They took Sweet Pea's motorcycle. They stopped and left the bike and walked the remainder of the ten feet. The house looked like no one has lived in it for years.

"Is this the right place?" Sweetpea asked they walked up the creaky steps.

"Positive," Callie confirmed as she opened the door. Callie then shined the light around the dark house, on the floor they saw old blood stains.

"What are you looking for?" Sweet Pea asked.

"Anything that links this place to the Black Hood," Callie answered.

"You mean this could his layer?" Sweet Pea asked.

"Yes, we have to work fast," Callie told him.

" This is insane," Sweet Pea stated as he shined his light. The two began to look around the place. " Why do you like looking for danger?"

"If you are scared, you go can back," Callie suggested.

" And leave you? No way," Sweet Pea said. Callie found an old white box. She carefully opened it, revealing files.

"There are three initials on this wall," Sweet Pea announced as he looked over at her. "What did you find?"

"Everything about this family," Callie answered. " The story says there were two children, but in the picture, there is three. This was a family of five, not four. Take a picture of everything." The two took a picture of everything they can find. Callie was double checking files to make sure they did not miss anything when they heard an engine in the distance.

" We have to go now," Sweet Pea ordered, but Callie flipped another page. He then took the files out of her hands and put them back. " Let's go, Shortstop."  The two made their way back to the bike, that they hid in the forest. They looked back at the house to see someone walking up the steps.

" Can you see who that is?" Callie asked.

" No," Sweet Pea answered. " And we are not about to find out, we have to go now before he finds out someone was already here." They both quickly climbed on the bike, they then heard the door from the house slam opened. " Where do we go?"

"Pop's" Callie urged. " As fast as you can."

" Hold on," Sweet Pea advised. She wrapped her arms around him, and Sweet Pea guided the bike as fast as he could to Pop's. When they got there, they got a booth and sat there. Callie stared at the table in silence. " Are you alright? You are scaring me."

"Sweet Pea, there were three kids in that case," Callie stated. " Two of got killed and the other supposedly survived, what if he is the Black Hood. What if is he here to get his vengeance?"

" We will do anything we can to stop him," Sweet Pea assured her as he grabbed her hands. " Do you still have those recordings of the phone call?" Callie nodded. " We should start working on them together." Callie nodded her head in agreement. " We will go over all the pictures we took before we report back to Jughead." Callie looked out the window in thought.

" That boy saw all of his family members be murdered," Callie pointed out. " He's acting out, why now? Why not all those years ago?"

" We can worry about that tomorrow," Sweet Pea confirmed. " You are going to keep yourself up all night with these questions." Callie sighed, looked back at the table, then put her head on it. " Look at me."

" Who killed the Conways?" Callie asked as she looked up, but not at him. " Is that killer back to finish what he started? Is the Joesph Conway getting revenge? What's the motive? What started this whole thing? Why the whole family?-" She stopped talking when two hands cupped her face.

" We will try figuring it out first thing tomorrow Princess," Sweet Pea assured her. " Maybe we should tell the cops about it?"

" Because they did so well catching Jason's killer," Callie sassed, Sweet Pea glared at her. " Sorry". They heard the door ring, they looked to see Jughead and Archie walk in and get a booth together, in the distance they saw Betty and Veronica, behind them was Cheryl and Josie in a booth together.

" Do you want to order anything? To calm our nerves?" Sweet Pea asked as he removed his hands from her face, one of them landed over one of her hands. " Mainly yours."

"You can order something," Callie told him as she looked back at him. " I had you go on this crazy adventure with me, I'll pay."

"We will split something," Sweet Pea stated. " We both can split the bill."

" What do you want?" Callie asked.

"Strawberry milkshake?" Sweet Pea suggested, raising his eyebrow. " We will split one between the two of us." Callie raised an eyebrow at him, then Pop Tate's phone started ringing.

" I think that is a possibility," Callie confirmed, she looked out the window to see Jughead leaving.

"That was him on the phone," Pop Tate announced, everyone looked at him. " The Black Hood." Callie, Archie, Betty, and Cheryl all stood up together. " He says that we've failed his test." Everyone looked at the people they were with fear. " That we're all sinners. That the reckoning is upon us."
