Chapter 21

Callie laid on the ground next to Betty's bed, it was the middle of the night, when they heard the sounds of crashing and banging. Both girls sat up and looked at each other oddly, they got up quietly and made their way down the steps. They got to the steps to run into Mrs. Cooper.

" Did you hear that?" Betty asked, just to be shushed. Her mom held Ms. Grundy's gun up.

"Ms. Cooper, what are you doing with that?" Callie asked.

" Get behind me," Mrs. Cooper advised the girls. " Be ready to dial 911." She then opened the door to downstairs, she made her way down with the two teenage girls following her. They saw a man rustling through papers at a desk. " Don't move." The man stopped what he was doing. " Hands where I can see them." The man slowly turned around.

" Don't shoot, Alice," Mr. Cooper pleaded.

" Dad! Hal! Mr. C!" all three girls voiced at the same time. Later Callie sat at the Cooper's kitchen table as Mr. C had pictures laid out all over the place. " These are Sheriff Keller's files about the Blossom murder investigation."

"How did you get these, Dad?" Betty asked.

"I broke into his house the night at the last drive in and I took them," Mr. Cooper explained.

" Well, that's impossible. FP Jones already confessed to that," Mrs. Cooper informed her husband.

"Well, I have no idea why he would do that because it was me. That's why I am here. To destroy any evidence that could lead back to me."

" Wait, that doesn't make any sense," Betty spoke. " Why would FP fess up to something he didn't even do?"

"He's covering for somebody, " Callie answered. " Or somebodies."

" Yeah, I'm not thinking about FP right now," Mrs. Cooper admitted. " I'd like to know why Betty's father is stealing and destroying evidence in a murder investigation."

"Look, I was worried that the investigation would get back to Polly, somehow. To us," Mr. Cooper confessed. " And somehow Sheriff Keller would figure out the connection between our family and the Blossoms. And he would think that there was some kind of motive."

"Wait, you mean about Great-Grandpappy Cooper being murdered by a Blossom?" Betty asked.

" Betty," Callie began. " Your Great-Grandpappy Cooper was a Blossom."

" You are an intelligent one, aren't you Andrews?" Mr. Cooper notified her. "After the murder, our family severed ties with the Blossoms and their name, and we took a new one, Cooper."

" I'm a Blossom?" " Betty asked in horror.

" Polly is also a Blossom," Callie stated. " Which makes her and Jason relatives by blood."

"Which is why you wanted to..." Mrs. Cooper began.

"Yeah," Mr. Cooper nodded. " Alice that's why."

" Oh, my God, Hal," Mrs. Cooper groaned. " If you're willing to send our daughter away to keep her away from Jason..."

"How far would the Blossoms go to keep them apart?" Betty asked.

"Murder," Callie answered.

"We need to get Polly out of that house," Mrs. Cooper ordered as they all stood up. Callie got in a car with the Coopers and got dragged to the Thornhill, Mrs. Cooper banged on the door.

" Don't bother calling the cops," Callie advised.

"We're not staying, Polly!" Mrs. Cooper added, Callie saw Cheryl and Polly standing on the staircase.

" What the hell is going on here, Alice?" Mr. Blossom asked. " It's the middle of the night."

"Oh, sorry to disrupt the witching hour at Thornhill!" Mrs. Cooper yelled.

"Polly, honey, are you okay?" Mr. Cooper asked.

'Yeah, I'm fine," Polly answered. " Betty, what's going on?"

" We're here to bring you home, Pol," Betty answered.

" She's not leaving us," Cheryl stated as she grabbed onto Polly.

" She chose to live here, remember?" Mrs. Blossom reminded them. " With a mentally stable family."

" Oh, I know all about your family, Penelope," Mrs. Cooper hissed. " And the incest."

" What?" Polly asked. " What incest?" Mrs. Cooper started walking towards Mr. Blossom.

"Mr. Cooper's grandfather wasn't just your grandpappy's murder victim," Callie began to explain. " They were brothers, which made him a Blossom."

"Just like Hal," Mrs. Cooper added.

"Yeah, so what?" Mr. Blossom asked.

"So what?" Mrs. Cooper mimicked. " So, everything"

"Starting with Mr. Jones' confession has a few gaping holes in it," Callie stated.

" He's being used by someone with a crazy motive," Betty added. She then laid her eyes on Mrs. Blossom. " For example, hiding incest."

" You were disgusted that Jason and Polly were dating because they were related," Mrs. Cooper rambled.

" Nothing could be more purely Blossom than those babies," Mrs. Blossom commented. Callie looked up to see Polly starting to cry.

"Okay, what is wrong with you people?" Mr. Cooper asked.

"Will you just spare us the middle-class morality," Mr. Blossom pleaded. " It's not like they were brother and sister. They were, what, third cousins."

" You think I killed my own son?" Mrs. Blossom asked.

"That's it. Polly, we are out of here," Mrs. Cooper ordered as she grabbed Polly's hand. " Enough of this Doctor Moreau experimentation in breeding eugenics. It's over!"

" Betty, Callie, let's go," Mr. Cooper told them.

" You've made a grave, error, little girl," Mrs. Blossom warned Betty grabbing her wrist.

"No, I don't think so. And I'm not gonna stop until I prove it," Betty stated as she ripped her arm free. She then stormed out of the house and Mr. Blossom leaned over to Callie.

"What about you?" Mr. Blossom asked her in a whisper. Callie looked back at Mrs. Blossom, Polly and Cheryl then looked back at her best friend's father.

" I think you killed Jason," Callie whispered back before going after Betty. Mr. Cooper followed them closing the door behind them.

Later that day Callie was at home with her dad when the phone rang.

"Archie is at a crime scene," her dad stated as he hung up the phone and grabbed his coat.

" I'll come with," Callie offered as she got up.

"No," her dad told her. " You stay here, where I know you are safe." He then walked out slamming the door shut. She sighed and put some music on as she did the dishes, it was for about five minutes when she heard the door squeak. Callie picked up a frying pan and carefully walked around over to see the door wide open.

"Dad? Callie asked, suddenly a bag was thrown over her head from behind, and the frying pan fell out of her hand. She felt a cloth being held to her mouth before passing out.

*******

Archie and his dad home from the crime scene when they see the front door wide open and music blasting.

"Callie!?" Her dad shouted as they walked into the house. They saw the frying pan in the middle of the room and the kitchen sink water running. Archie walked into the room and turned off the water, to prevent it from overspilling anymore.

"CALLIE!" Archie shouted. He rounded the corner to see his dad holding Callie's phone.

"She's gone Archie," his dad stated trying not to cry. " Did she run away?"

" Callie wouldn't have left the house without texting you," Archie reminded him. " And you know that." Archie then called the police.

*****

The next day at school, everyone heard the news. Archie was sitting at lunch with his friends

"They will find her," Veronica assured Archie.

"But why would they take her? What does she have to do with any of this?" Archie asked.

"She knew that me and the Blossoms were linked in blood," Betty stated, " I asked her to do some digging...She knows a lot of people's secrets, maybe she said something that got her into danger."

" She was correct about that?" Archie asked.

"She was also right about you and Ms. Grundy being at Sweetwater on July 4th," Jughead added.

"This is not helping," Archie sighed.

" How are your parents holding up?" Veronica asked.

"They are worried sick," Archie answered. " Dad hasn't slept, he just sits in her room. And my mom cries herself to sleep, it's even affecting Vegas," Archie looked up and saw that Reggie was nowhere in sight. "Where's Reggie?"

"He left math extremely upset," Betty answered. " Nobody has seen him since."

"I heard he was in the locker room crying," Veronica said. Archie got up and made his way to the locker room, he heard someone sobbing.

"Reggie?" He asked.

"Go away," Reggie ordered.

"Reggie, they are going to find her," Archie assured him as he found him on a bench. "She's my twin sister, you don't think I'm not as upset as you are?"

"I was worried something like this would happen, what if she gets murdered like Jason?" Reggie asked as he looked at him.

" We won't let that happen," Archie assured him. " We find her before anything terrible like that happens."

Later they stood in Archie's garage as Jason's varsity jacket laid on a sound box.

"This is supposed to help FP?" Archie asked.

" I don't know. Looks like more incriminating evidence to me," Kevin pointed out.

" Yeah, this just confirms that my dad torched Jason's getaway car," Jughead added.

"And that his confession was true," Kevin said.

" Why would FP say Jason's varsity jacket is dangerous?" Betty asked. " What can that mean?"

" I can ask my father?" Veronica asked. " Maybe he has something to do with Callie's disappearance as well." They all turned and looked at her. " He would know, considering we found concrete proof that he hired the Serpents to kill Jason, maybe even Callie." She looked at the jacket before at Jughead. " Which probably means that your dad pulled the trigger, Jughead. I'm sorry."

"No, No!" Betty denied. " No, I'm not giving up yet." She picked up the jacket and turned to Archie. " Put this on."

"What?" Archie asked as Betty put the jacket on him.

"Put it on," Betty repeated. " Callie used to do this to me all the time when a chapstick would fall through a hole in the pocket and into the lining." She then rummaged around and put her hand in a hole, before pulling out a flash drive.

"What the hell?" Veronica demanded.

" Nancy Drew strikes again," Kevin stated with a smile. They then put the flash drive in a laptop and watched the video on it.

" Oh, my God," Veronica commented. Then they watched Clifford Blossom shot his son in the head, right between the eyes. " Oh, my God," she started to cry." Betty then shut the laptop and picked up the phone. " Do you think this is why Callie got taken because she figured out who murdered Jason?"

" Don't say that!" Archie snapped at her.

"Betty..." Jughead began.

"Betty, who are you calling?" Archie asked her.

" You have to get out of that house. Listen to me..." Betty ordered the person who she was on the phone with.

At the Andrews house, Mary Andrews had to leave to go back to Chicago to work, with her daughter still missing.

"I'm sorry, Mom, but my friends need me," Archie.

" Promise me something," his mom said with tears.

"Anything," Archie replied.

"If you find Callie, call me straight away," his mom pleaded.

"I promise," he assured her. He then hugged her tightly. She then left and he saw his dad sitting on the couch, He was staring blankly at the tv that was turned off. He then walked upstairs to see Vegas laying on Callie's bed.

********

In the basement of Whyte Wyrm laid Callie. She opened her eyes to see someone staring down at her. She saw a boy who was slim, but also very tall. He has long jet black hair brushed to the side and dark brown eyes, with the gang's symbol of a double-headed serpent tattooed on the left side of his neck. He wore a Southside Serpent jacket. He leaned against the wall, he had brass knuckles on his right hand.

" You're safe now, Callie," the boy told her.

" How do you know my name?" Callie asked.

"Mr. Clifford Blossom dead wanted you dead," the boy stated. " He was going to do it later tonight after he wanted the serpents to give you a punch or two." Her eyes flickered at his knuckles once more.

" Why didn't you?" Callie asked as the boy helped her up.

" We all know that you were one of the ones that believed that FP was innocent, we are not about to hurt someone who protects our kind," the boy explained.

"Who are you?" Callie asked.

" They call me Sweet Pea," the boy answered.
