Chapter 2
A while later Callie sat in the front row as Cheryl spoke at the podium.
"Thank you for that moment of silence," Cheryl said looking up at everyone. " Many of you were lucky enough to have known my brother personally. Each and every one of you meant the world to Jason. I loved my brother. He was and always will be my soulmate. So I speak with the confidence that only a twin could have Jason wouldn't want us to spend the year mourning. Jason would want us to move on with our lives. Which is why I've asked the School Board to not cancel the Back-to-School semiformal". People start cheering happily. "But rather, to let us use it as a way to heal, collectively and celebrate my brother's too, too short life on this mortal coil. Thank you all". Everyone clapped and cheered as the assembly ended. Afterward, Callie walked with Cheryl.
"Good speech Cherly," Callie congratulated.
"Thank you, Callie," Cheryl smiled at her. "Let's go get some lunch." The two girls made their way to the cafeteria and outside with their food. In the distance, they could hear Archie playing his song.
"Look," Callie pointed out. "New girl is sitting with Nancy drew."
"She can do better with the friend picking," said Tina.
" She's fine," Cheryl rolled her eyes. "But we need more Vixens, and tryouts are like right after school."
"Let's go talk to the girl about it," Callie suggested standing up.
"Brilliant idea, mini-me," Cheryl agreed standing up with her. The two made their way over to Betty's table that also sat Archie and Kevin. As they are walking over, they notice Archie get up to leave.
" Veronica Lodge," Callie greeted as the two made it to the table.
"I'd heard whisperings," Cheryl smiled at her as she placed her hands on her hips. "I'm Cheryl Blossom, may I sit?" She then turned to Betty. " Betty, would you mind?" Betty moved over, and Veronica scooched over so Callie could sit as well.
"So what are you three hens gossiping about?" Callie asked.
"Archie's Efron-esque emergence from the chrysalis of puberty?" Cheryl questioned, Callie, rolled her eyes in annoyance at the mention of her brother and his change. Callie noticed Betty shake her head no at her other two friends.
"Extracurriculars," Veronica answered. " Weatherbee wants me to sign up for a few."
"Cheerleading," Cheryl advised.
"You must," Callie added.
"I'm senior captain of the River Vixens," Cheryl pointed out as she followed her hands.
"Is cheerleading still a thing?" Kevin asked.
"Is being the Gay Best Friend still a thing?" Callie questioned him. Kevin looked away as Betty rolled her eyes. " Some people say it's retro; I say it's eternal and iconic."
"At Spence, I sat at the top of the Elite's pyramid," Veronica recalled from her old school. " I'm in." Callie and Cheryl looked at each other happily. She then turned to Betty. " Betty, you're trying out, too."
"Of course!" Callie chimed as Cheryl looked at Betty and her plate of food.
"Anyone's welcome to try out," Cheryl added. " But Betty already got so much on her plate right now and being a Vixen is kind of a full-time thing."
"But open to all!" Callie smiled as the two red-head girls stood up.
"Follow me on Twitter, and I'll do the same," Cheryl advised. "My handle is @cherlybombshell".
"And if you wish to follow me. My handle is @CallieAndrews," Callie added. "Or just find her or my brother and you will find me", The two girls walked back towards their table.
"What you said to Kevin was so harsh, it is almost as I would have said it," Cheryl stated. "It is like you took the words right out of my mouth".
"I learned from the best," Callie reminded her. "And the best is you".
"Of course it is," Cheryl admitted. "What are you doing after school?"
"Getting ready for tryouts," Callie reminded her.
"You do not need to try out Callie," Cheryl told her. "You were a Vixen last year, so I think you can still be one this year".
"I still have to try out," Callie reminded her.
"Callie, I am the one who calls the shots, "Cheryl stated. "And I know you have what it takes to be a Vixen. And when I graduate I don't the team being led by those two bobbleheads, I need you to lead the team, I am training you".
"What is it that you need me to do?"Callie asked.
"I know that Veronica and season 5 drapper Betty will be at tryouts," Cheryl began. " I want you to record tryouts and be at my side when they do".
"Got it, captain," Callie nodded.

Later the two girls sat at the tryouts, watching every girl give it their best shot. Callie sat next to Cheryl, Tina sat next to Callie and Ginger sat next to Cheryl. The other cheerleaders sat behind them on the bench as a couple of basketball boys watched from the door, ready to use the floor. The two that were currently trying out were Betty and Veronica.
" We're blue and gold!" Betty and Veronica cheered as they showed their moves and waved around the pompoms. " We're dynamite! We'll take you down, and fight the fight! Whoo! Go, Bulldogs!"
"Hmm," Veronica sounded.
"Ladies, where's the heat? Where's the sizzle?" Cheryl demanded.
"Well, you haven't seen our big finish yet," Veronica pointed out. They watched Veronica pull Betty close into a mini make-out session. Cheryl and Callie rolled their eyes at each other as Cheryl handed Callie the clipboard. When the two finished kissing, they looked back at them.
"Check your sell-by date, ladies," Cheryl stated. "Faux lesbian kissing hasn't been taboo since 1994.
"So let's see if you do better with the interview portion of our audition," Callie added.
Cheryl looked directly at Betty. "Betty, how's your sister doing?"
"Um, Polly's fine, thanks for asking," Betty answered.
"Veronica, has Betty told you about her sister yet?" Cheryl asked.
"Uh, no," Veronica answered glancing at Betty quickly.
"Go ahead, Betty," Callie said.
"Tell Veronica about your sister and my dear dead brother," Cheryl added.
"Polly and Jason dated,"Betty told Veronica, this caused Cheryl to scoff.
"I wouldn't say "dated" Cheryl corrected.
"It didn't end well," Betty informed.
"In fact, Jason's probably why your sister had a nervous breakdown and now lives in a group home, isn't it?" Cheryl questioned.
"That's what my parents think," Betty responded.
"What do you have to say about that Betty?" Cheryl questioned. "Go ahead, the floor is yours. Whatever you have been dying to spew about Jason and how he treated Polly, unleash it. Destroy me. Tear me a new one". As Cheryl is talking, Callie notices that Betty curled one her hands into a fist. " Rip me to shreds. Annihilate me".
"I just," Betty began.
"Finally," Cheryl breathed.
" I just wanted to say I'm sorry," Betty apologized. " About what happened to Jason. I can't even imagine what you and your family must be going through".
"Right," Cheryl agreed. " Veronica, welcome to the Vixens. Betty, better luck next time".
"Wait, what? Why?" Veronica questioned. "Because you couldn't bully Betty into being a bitch?"
"I need girls with fire on my squad," Cheryl stated.
"I know what you need, Cheryl," Veronica stated. " Because I know who you are. You would rather people fear than like you, so you traffic and intimidation. You're rich, so you've never bee held accountable, but I'm living proof. That certainty, that entitlement you wear on your head like a crown? It won't last. Eventually, there will be a reckoning, Or.." Veronica began to walk forward. " Maybe that reckoning is now. And maybe, that reckoning...Is me. Betty and I come as a matching set. You want one, you take us both". Callie looked and a saw angry look in Cheryl's eyes. " You wanted fire? Sorry, Cherylbombshell my specialty's ice".
