Chapter 18

It was now homecoming week, and Riverdale would still be versing their arch rivals. In the morning Callie sat at the table eating breakfast with Archie and their mom.

"Archie, Callie, the reason why I came..." their mom began.

" You came because of the divorce," Callie stated.

"Because I called dad," Archie added.

"You know, I thought that Riverdale would be better for you two than Chicago," their mom told them." It would be safer..."

"It's okay, Mom," Callie assured her. " Really we're okay."

"And I mean, it hasn't been all bad,'' Archie pointed out. " My friends are amazing."

"Mine are too," Callie said.

"Dad, Callie and I are closer than ever right now. And also..." Archie trailed off.

" You've been singing," their mom smiled.

"Songwriting, yeah. And singing," Archie said.

"And your dad tells me that you're great," their mom smiled. She then turned to Callie. "And your dad also told me that you are a pretty good cheerleader." She looks at both of her children. " I hope you'll play me some  songs before I go, and I am excited to see you cheer this Friday."

" Yeah, for sure," Archie agreed.

"I hope you make it," Callie added. " Archie is playing at the dance. So, if you want to see him play live..." Their mom nodded happily.

Later at school, Callie was talking happily among people, having her mom back in town put her in an extremely good mood.

"Do you want to do anything tonight?" Reggie asked.

"Not really," Callie answered as they made their way down the hallway.

"Why? Did I do something wrong?" Reggie asked he pulled her off to the side.

" My mom is in town," Callie answered with a smile.

"That's amazing strawberry!" Reggie hugged her.  Callie received a text from Betty.

" I gotta go, babe," Callie said. " Betty wants me to meet her in the blue and gold room."

"I will see you later," Reggie said kissing her head before they went separate ways. Callie walked into the room to see Veronica, Betty, and Mrs. Cooper.

" Oh, finally, close that door," Mrs. Cooper ordered, Callie backed up and closed the door. " Ladies, I need you to look around the room. Whoever is not in this room is on the table as a possible murder suspect."

"That's relieving that I am not one," Callie stated.

" It's including those Pussycats," Mrs. Cooprer continued.

"Oh, my God, Mom," Betty began.

" Now, let's talk about your father," Mrs. Cooper suggested to Veronica.

" He has as an epic grudge against the Blossoms, so yes. It's totally within the realm of possibility that he hired someone from jail to kill Jason. Maybe Jughead's dad."

"You really believe that?" Betty asked.

" My dad paid Jughead's dad to trash the drive-in," Veronica defended herself. " Maybe he paid him to..."

"To commit murder," Mrs. Cooper finished. "And, for all we know, that gay Greasey Serpent is an accomplice."

"And what are you basing that off of?" Betty asked. "That you saw FP and Joaquin talking?"

" It didn't look like they were talking," Mrs. Cooper defended herself. " It looked like they were conspiring."

"Conspiring about what?" Callie asked.

"That's what I need Betty to find out," Mrs. Cooper responded. " Either through Jughead or FP directly, without raising suspicion, of course. Which is why I have prepared a seemingly innocuous list of questions."

" I already asked, Jughead, point-blank, if he thought his father had anything to do with Jason Blossom's death, and he said no," Betty stated. "And I believe him, I still believe him."

"Betty, you're too close to this," her mom warned her.

"I'm not going to insult Jughead or betray him by entertaining this. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Homecoming Dance to plan." Then Betty began to leave. " Come on Vee, and Cal lets go."

"I need to talk to Ms. Andrews, here for a sec," Mrs. Cooper said, Callie stayed behind as the other girls left.

"What is it, Mrs. C?" Callie asked.

"Who do you think one murdered Jason Blossom?" Mrs. Cooper asked her. " Was it FP? Was it Reggie?"

"Reggie would no do such thing," Callie hissed at her. " But I have spent the night more than one night at the Blossoms, and I am agreeing with Polly. I think one of the Blossoms did murder, Jason." With that Callie left the room to get to class. Later that day at lunch, Callie sat outside at a table with Betty and the others.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I have an announcement to make" Cheryl announced, they all looked at her. " One that tangentially involves you, Betty. I'm bringing Polly to the dance as my date, and we're campaigning as co-queens of Homecoming Court."

"Because why?" Betty asked.

"Because, Nightmare Smurfette, by all rights, it should've been Polly and Jason on that stage being crowned. This is the next best thing. So...Don't forget to vote and I'll see everyone at my coronation!" She then walked away.

"Betty, about the homecoming dance," Archie began. " Can I play a couple songs? Callie and I kind of told my mom that..." He stooped when he saw the look she was giving him. " Whoa, you don't want me to?"

" No, no it's not that, Archie, it's just, um..." Betty trailed.

"This dance needs to be fun," Callie spoke.

"And your songs are as amazing as you're..." Betty continued.

" They make you wanna slit your wrists," Jughead admitted. Archie looked at everyone. " In a good way."

" In an amazing way," Veronica added. " But no need to fret Betty, cause Archie asked me to sing with him."  Veronica nodded at Archie. " And we're thinking about doing some upbeat covers."

" We are?" Archie asked her.

"Aren't we?" Veronica asked him. The two got up and left, so they could talk.

"Callie, are you busy?" Betty asked.

"No," Callie answered.

"Can you help with the decorating committee for the homecoming dance?" Betty asked.

"Of course," Callie answered.

" Thanks," Betty breathed in relief. " I am going to need at the help I can get."

Later on, Callie is helping with the decorating, she was helping blow up balloons. Callie was tying one when someone wrapped her arms around her. She turned her head to see Reggie, a smile formed on her face. She kissed his cheek.

" You always look so angry when you are concentrating," Reggie commented as he unwrapped his arms.

"Is that a bad thing?" Callie asked as she finished the balloon.

"It's cute," Reggie laughed as he too started to help with the balloons. " It's sexy."

"Thank you," Callie smiled.

" You have been working very hard," Reggie said. " Let's go get some food."

" Alright, let me just tell Betty," Callie said. She put down whatever she had in her hands and walked over to Betty. " Hey, I'm gonna leave with Reggie to grab a bite to eat."

"Thanks for helping," Betty smiled at her. " I will see you later."

" Will you be fine here?" Callie asked.

" I have it under control," Betty assured her.

Later that day Callie came home with Archie, they saw their parents in the kitchen.

"Kids, your mom and I are trying to decide between pizza or Chinese food," their dad stated.

"Chinse food," Callie answered.

"We always do pizza," Archie stated as he put his stuff down.

" Let me guess. Pepperoni and red pepper?" Their mom questioned.

" Alright, so, Moon Palace, they still deliver," their dad suggested. "We can get, um...."

"General Tso's chicken, scallion pancakes, vegetable dumplings, family-style," their mom listed.

" Sounds great," Callie smiled, they all looked at Archie. "What's wrong Archie?"

" Huh? Nothing," Archie answered. " We just...We are not used to coming home and seeing you guys together."

" It's nice...but," Callie continued.

"Hello?" Jughead greeted coming downstairs.

"Jughead, hey," Archie greeted him.

" Am I interrupting a family meeting?" Jughead asked. " Cause I can come back."

"Absolutely not," their mom answered.

"It was just a debate about what we are doing for dinner," Callie added.

" So, who's going to the dance?" Ms. Andrews asked. " Besides your dad and me...Oh, and Hermione, whom I invited."

"You did?" their dad asked.

" We'll talk about it," their mom said.

"Wait, you guys are going to the dance?" Callie asked.

"Together?" Archie asked.

"We were talking about it," their dad began.

"We both want to hear you play, if that's still happening," their mom answered.

" If you're good with it," their dad answered.

"Yeah, totally," Callie smiled.

" I'm great with it," Archie added with a smile.

"Good," their mom smiled. After dinner Callie was in her room doing her English homework, Vegas laid on her bed. There was a knock at the door, she looked up to her mom.

"Come in," Callie told her.

"Are you excited for homecoming? " her mom asked as she walked in and sat on the bed.

" Definitely," Callie answered.

"And as your dad told me, you are going with your boyfriend, Reggie Mantle," her mom stated.

"That is correct," Callie answered.

" I heard he is not the nicest person," her mom commented.

"He's not, but he is really good to me," Callie assured her.

" Can I do your hair for homecoming?" her mom asked as she grabbed some of Callie's hair.

" Of course," Callie answered with a smile.

"Why don't you call or text me as much as Archie does?" her mom asked.

"I guess I was mad at you for leaving," Callie answered.

"Well, you can always call me for anything," her mom assured as she stood. " What did I say about having Vegas on your bed?'

" To not to," Callie answered as she pets Vegas.

"You are such a troublemaker," her mom smiled before leaving the room.
