Chapter 129
A new morning had arrived on a Friday, Callie woke up to Sweet Pea sound asleep, and he had her back toward her. Callie had started to let Sweet Pea be in the same bed as her; he was more than happy to be off the couch.
"Mama," Grady greeted as he walked into the room; Sweet Pea's eyes opened as Grady went to Callie.
"What are you doing up so early, little bug?" Callie asked taking his hand.
"I have a coloring project due today," Grady answered; Callie sat up swinging her feet around.
"It's not going to finish itself," Callie said as she picked up Grady walking out of the room. Sweet Pea couldn't help but watch the two leave the room. He laid in bed for another ten minutes before going out to find Callie helping Grady with his project. "Can you go wake Lottie?"
"On it," Sweet Pea answered; he kissed the top of Grady's head before heading into the room decorated with Hello Kitty stickers on the wall. "Lottie." He shook her a little. "Lottie, it's time to get up." The little girl's eyes opened, still very sleepy.
"Pea," Lottie greeted as her eyes closed again. "Is it Friday yet?"
"Football Game Day Friday," Sweet Pea added; Lottie opened her eyes again and she smiled a bit. "Time to get up, sweetheart." Lottie sat up; holding up her arms, Sweet Pea picked her up, then carried her back toward the other two. "She's a bit sleepy."
"I have a very important job for you, Lottie," Callie said as Sweet Pea sat at the table. "I need you to go hang out with Ms. Toni for a bit. Can you do that for me?"
"I like Ms. Toni," Lottie said as she faced the table. "Why hasn't she been coming to the school?"
"Toni's baby is getting ready to be delivered," Sweet Pea answered. "Could be here any moment."

Later that night, Callie was at the football game with Veronica Grady, and Lottie; Sweet Pea was running the bar. The Bulldogs were losing as they have been for the past couple of games. Cheryl walked away with the cheerleaders and the mascot.
"Lost again," Veronica said.
"Perhaps they just need an incentive?" Callie suggested.
"What's that?" Lottie asked as she climbed onto Callie's lap.
"Motivation," Callie answered. "Encouragement."
"Such as?" Grady asked as he looked back.
"Such as brushing your teeth every time I don't have to tell you to do so allowing you to stay up later on the weekends," Callie answered.
"Do the bulldogs need to be told to brush their teeth?" Lottie asked.
Veronica got to her feet. "As a matter of fact, they do Princess Lottie."
Lottie tugged on Callie's sleeve. "Can we go see Ms.Tabitha now?" Callie looked at Veronica; with a nod, the two went their separate ways.
"Hey, Tabitha," Callie greeted as she walked into the shop.
"Let me guess two small strawberry milkshakes---" Tabitha began.
"And a basket of fries to go with," Callie finished as her kids found a table. "The fact you have it memorized."
"Makes me a good owner," Tabitha smiled. "Oh...a strawberry and vanilla milkshake for Toni?"
"You are a blessing," Callie said as she put her hands together.
"Tell me," Tabitha began as she began to get the milkshakes together. "Why are you helpful toward Toni with her pregnancy? It's not because you're a mom as well is it."
"I've gone through my pregnancy alone for the most part," Callie answered. "With Grady as well...I know much it means to have someone there to help you through, especially the first time."
"I thought you lived in a sorority," Tabitha brought up.
"It was before I got to Rhode Island," Callie answered. "That time between October and January...it was terrifying. The sorority was a blessing of help and love." Callie looked back at her kids; Grady was making Lottie laugh by sticking straws up his nose. "I'm sorry about the straws,"
"Don't be," Tabitha insisted.
The weekend had come around again; one night Callie was at Toni's apartment with her kids, Fangs and Sweet Pea. They were playing cards while the kids were fast asleep on the couch.
"Cal," Fangs began; she looked over at him. "You've never told us about the day Grady was born."
"Oh," Callie breathed as she looked over at Grady. "I gave birth in a bathtub."
"Hospital birth too expensive?" Toni asked.
"That and I wasn't making it in time," Callie answered. "The sorority was having a little party, and no one was sober enough to drive to the hospital at midnight. It wouldn't be till 3:55 that Grady came out."
"Is it going to be like that with me?" Toni asked.
"Could be longer or shorter, depending on the baby," Callie answered.
"So they were sober enough to help deliver but sober enough to get you to a hospital?" Sweet Pea asked in disbelief.
"Correct," Callie answered. "One of the girls was studying to be a nurse and shadowed in the labor unit."
"Let me guess, she is part of your gang," Fang asked; Callie nodded.

The next day at school, Callie was teaching when she heard Archie's voice over the PA.
"Attention everyone. This is Coach Andrews," Archie greeted. "You may not know this but a bunch of your classmates are out there busting their asses on the football field to represent this school and to represent each and everyone one of you. So why don't you all show some school spirit and support your team? Starting with the free pancake breakfast that Pop's is hosting tomorrow morning. Give them your support. And, hell...you might even get something out of it yourselves."
Callie turned her class. "You heard them, give the Bulldogs your support this Friday.
"But we just going to lose again," a student said.
"That can be true," Callie said. "Back in my day as Vixen, a football game was also a social protocol thing. Sneaking off with your crush to kiss them behind the bleachers. Going to pops for shakes that tasted of Victory or as a pick me up." The students looked at each other.
"What is our incentive for going to the game?" a student asked.
"I shouldn't have to provide one," Callie answered. "But since you asked...if all of you show up to this game then...twenty extra credit points." The students looked at each other. "This is a government class...pair up into groups of three of your choice. Come up with an incentive better than that and present it to the class tomorrow and then we will have a vote." The bell rang, and a few minutes later Jughead entered the room with a notebook. "Did someone die?"
"No," Jughead asked as he put a notebook on his desk; there was a creepy creature drawn on the student. "Though I am concerned for a student. Mole people. Mothmen. Do you think something could be going on at this kid's school?"
Callie picked up the notebook and flipped through a few pages. "Aliens are the current phenom we have, though something could be happening at home...do you want me to do more research?"
"No," Jughead asked. "I will take this to Weatherbee first before and see what he has to say."He grabbed the notebook and then looked back. "It Lerman Logan in any of your classes?"
"Along with a few of my vixens," Callie answered. "I'll ask them to keep a close eye on him for a couple of days." Jughead nodded before leaving the classroom with the notebook.

Tomorrow morning came, Callie and Sweet Pea were sitting at the booth with the kids as the pancake breakfast went on.
"Ms. Watson," a man greeted as he walked up to the table with one of the football players. "I believe you are one of my son's teachers."
"This is my son Grady, my daughter Lottie, and this is a close friend of mine, also Grady's father...Sweet Pea," Callie introduced.
"Hi," Grady greeted as Lottie waved.
"Nice to meet you," Sweet Pea greeted as he shook the man's hand.
"May we sit?" the man asked. "My son loves being in your class."
"Of course," Callie nodded as they all scooted over.
"My son failed government last year, but this year he seems to really be passing and understanding," the man began. "How do you--"
"I like to use examples that can relate to their daily life," Callie answered. "Practices of government are used in our daily lives, whether we are a top person or simply a captain of a cheer squad."
"My son says you are encouraging them to cheer for a losing team?" the dad brought up.
"It's a loyalty lesson in a way," Callie answered. "Many professional sports teams are not doing the greatest and still have a devoted fanbase."
"You would know all about that and your love for the Detroit Lions," the kid said to his dad.
"Their time is coming," the dad assured. "I just know it." He leaned over. "How do you know coach Andrews?"
"Ms. Watson and Coach Andrews are brother and sister," Sweet Pea answered. "Back then Andrews was a bulldog and Waston was a Vixen Cheerleader."
Later at school, the students of one of her classes had put in the votes. Now they had their heads down anonymous voting,
"All those the next two quizzes grades being As despite the outcome?" Callie asked; hands going up. "All those for twenty extra points." Hands went up. "Heads up." Everyone did as they were told. "With this class were are doing the next two quiz grades as all As." The students all looked at each other happily. "But those that don't do so well will be given extra work to help give them an understanding. Are you sure you are okay with that?"
"Yes, Ms. Watson," everyone responded.

That night after getting the kids to bed, Callie was in bed with Sweet Pea; he was telling her all about her day and how he has another out-of-town truck job.
"Will you be back in time for the football game?" Callie asked.
"I will make sure of it," Sweet Pea asked. "The bulldogs and Archie needs our support." She looked over at him. "What is our relationship is our relationship status? Are we official or are we just--"
"It's too unique to put a name on it," Callie interrupted. "I do like having you around in Grady and Lottie's life, they are clearly happier despite having to move away from everything they've ever known." Sweet Pea looked over at her. "I am not quite ready for a label."
Sweet Pea took her hand. "Next time you introduce me to one of your students or their parents, introduce me as both their dads." Callie started laughing. "I'm serious."
"You have to get that okay from Lottie, not me," Callie informed. "But it does impress me that you came to me first about it."
Sweet Pea sat up. "So I can have her call me dad instead of Pea?"
"You have to talk to the three-year-old about that," Callie answered. "I let our children make their own decisions around matters like this. Helps them have a sense of independence, their own free will." Sweet Pea leaned over and kissed her cheek, then pulled back.
"I am so sorry," Swee Pea apologized as he looked away. "I've overstepped."

The next morning, Sweet Pea was in the bathroom with Lottie doing her hair again.
"Lottie, sweetheart," Sweet Pea began, she looked at him through the mirror. "Would it be okay for you to start calling me dad instead of Pea?"
"Have you earned that title from me?" Lottie asked; there was laughter heard from the kitchen.
"Uh," Sweet Pea began.
"We will have a series of tests," Lottie began. "If you pass them all by Friday, then I will call you dad."
"Did you just provide me an incentive?" Sweet Pea asked; Lottie smiled big. "You are truly your mother's daughter...trouble." This made Lottie laugh.

Later on, Callie was sitting at the table with Betty, telling her all about Polly.
"I am so sorry, Betty," Callie apologized as tears formed in her eyes. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Not right," Betty denied. "I still haven't told my mom, I'm scared of what it might do to her."
Callie took Betty's hand. "You shouldn't keep it from her. Keep the truth might just hurt her more."
Betty wiped her eyes. "She was missing for four weeks...and then."
"I can get my Vixens involved," Callie suggested. "Have them look into the Lonely Highway."
"I'm going that way later," Betty informed. "I'm going with Jughead to meet with a man named Dreyfus."
"I've met him," Callie answered. "Has an interest toward aliens...mothmen." Betty gave her a strange look. The guy is the owner of this junkyard."
"He may know something about Polly," Betty said. "If he says anything I'll let you know...has your Vixens ever killed anyone?"
"I try to get them to only do it for self-defense not just for thrill or jobs," Callie answered. "There are a few jobs where they have disposed of a body." Betty blinked. "Abusive exes situation." Betty nodded.
****
Later on, Betty approached Callie at the park while she was pushing both kids on the swings.
"It was a colossal waste of time," Betty complained. "Aliens?"
"As I told you," Callie answered. "I can have investigations done toward the junkyard." Betty looked at her. "They are trained well in self-defense, if it's too dangerous then I go in."
"No," Betty denied. "But why investigate the old man?" Betty asked.
"He says uh a lot," Callie answered. "Uh can indicate when someone is not confident about what they are saying." Betty looked at her. "I know non-FBI employees are not allowed to investigate most of the time but you know I don't trust the FBI most of the time."
"Have them study the Lonely Highway," Betty answered. "There is a serial killer called TBK, I want them to be aware of that and what other dangers that can be lurking."
"I'll pass the information," Callie nodded.
Betty studied the kids and then looked at Callie. "You've gotten better at what you do...but how do you do it without worry?"
"Due to my ex-husband I do have involvement in the underworld," Callie reminded Betty. "As awful as Wilbur was he did assign hitman to me," Betty's eyes widen. "They have stayed loyal with his passing, at two ends of the park are two of them out of four."
Betty looked at Callie. "Do you know anything about the secret truck rest stop?"
"Yes," Callie answered. "I've gone a couple of times but only to give Sweet Pea a lunch he's forgotten." Betty smiled a bit. "Yes, there is rekindling between the two of us, but I am in no rush for a label."
*****
It was now time for the football game, Sweet Pea was running late. Callie was in the stands, Grady had face paint on and Lottie was holding pom poms. She was sitting with Veronica and Tabitha.
"Is this seat taken?" Reggie asked from behind.
"Enemy pirate," Grady warned as Callie looked back to see Reggie wearing his old Bulldog varsity jacket.
"Reggie?" Callie asked as she held out his hand.
"You buzz kill," Reggie teased as he took a lipstick out of his pocket; then sat down.
"How did you know he had it?" Tabitha asked.
"We did use to date," Callie answered. "I forgot I left it in his pocket."
"Here are the Stonewall Stallions versus the Riverdale Bulldogs," the announcer began, and everyone turned their focus toward the game." Britta went and met Derek who had just transferred to Stonewall from Riverdale. The player bumped fists and the game started after the coin toss.

At the Lonely Highway, Jughead in his motorcycle rode up to two cars. There was a Betty, Lerman, and an unknown woman.
"Lerman," Jughead greeted. "Thank God." He looked at the other woman. "Who are you?"
"Misty of the Vixens," the woman answered as he held out her hand, Jughead shook her head. "Saw him walking on the shoulder in a daze, your friend Betty is smart."
Jughead looked at his student. "You okay, bud?"
"Mr. Jones..." Lerman began. "Did it happen again?"
"We are going to take Lerman back to the school," Betty said to Misty.
"Make sure he gets there safely," Misty requested. "Something bad could've happened."
"Will do," Betty assured. "Thank you for keeping an eye out for him and the other people on this road."
"Just doing my job," Misty informed, she then looked at Jughead. "The Vixen Queen was right to put us here. This road holds many mysteries mainly disappearances."
"Any spaceship sounds?" Jughead asked.
"No," Misty answered. "But we have not ruled it out yet."

At the game, the cheerleaders began their main performance with Cheryl as the lead.
"You're the one that I've been waiting for," Cheryl began to sing and dance. Stupid Love, by Lady Gaga.
"Gotta quit this crying.
Nobody's gonna heal me.
If I don't open the door.
Kinda hard to believe.
Gotta have faith in me!
Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out
Look at me
Get down, get down, get down, get down
Look at me"
Sweet Pea joined them in the stands; Grady went and stood by him.
"Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out
All I ever wanted was love
I want your Stupid love, love
I want your Stupid love, love"
Stallions kept scoring.
"I don't need a reason
Not sorry I want your stupid love
I want your stupid love, love.
We got a stupid love, love.
I want your stupid love, love."
Everyone cheered loudly once the cheerleaders finished their performance.
"What are they doing?" Lottie asked as the team gathered around Archie.
"They are having a quick team meeting," Sweet Pea answered. "Words of encouragement." Lottie tugged on Sweet Pea's sleeve, he picked her up.
"Go Bulldogs!" Reggie shouted; everyone began to cheer for them a bit more. All the players lined up for the last few minutes of the game, the play began and everyone began to cheer as Britta ran down the field with the ball. Her teammates took out players going after her, and she dodged a couple. Britta rolled into the end, scoring a touchdown for the Bulldogs. Everyone stood up cheering loudly, and Lottie waved her pom-poms in joy. Reggie, Veronica, Tabitha, Sweet Pea, Callie, Grady, and Lottie all group hugged each other in complete joy that the Bulldogs get to stay in the league and as a team.
***
It was the middle of the night, Sweet Pea woke up to someone climbing on top of him. He looked over to see Callie still asleep; then back to see in front of him.
"You have passed my series of tests," Lottie informed as Sweet Pea sat up.
"But you haven't given me any to complete," Sweet Pea reminded her.
"None that you know about," Lottie said; Sweet Pea could feel Callie begin to laugh. "All that matters is you passed, I will be calling you, dad." Lottie then slid off the bed, Sweet pea got up to put her back in her bed and then came back to find Callie sitting up. "Your three-year-old is a slimy rascal."
"Terrible threes are just a step up from the terrible twos," Callie smiled. "If Lottie is willing to call you dad that means Grady likes you a lot more than he lets on." Sweet Pea melted into a smile before getting on the bed and pulling Callie into a hug.
