Chapter 103
Walking down the halls of Stonewall prep, Callie was taking part in dropping Jughead off for his first day. Sweet Pea was filling in for her at Pops.
"What number was the room again?" Callie asked.
"No matter, found it," Jellybean as she opened a door.
"Amazing as always JB," Callie smiled as they all looked inside. The room was your typical college room, perhaps a bit fancier. Jughead scoffed.
"Well, we are certainly not in Riverdale High anymore," Jughead stated the fact as they all walked in. "Welcome to the Dead Poets Society."
"Not a bad coop, boy," FP admitted as Callie put a box done.
"Certainly has more life to it than a Riverdale classroom," Callie stated.
"More like more than Archie's room," Jellybean stated, Callie looked at her and laughed.
"Okay, kitten, Cal, let's go find the vending machine," Fp stated. "I'll buy you both some Triple Bubble."
"You guys go, I'm going to find the restroom," Callie stated as they walked out to leave Jughead and Betty alone. On her way there, she bumped into someone. "Sorry about that." She looked up to see a boy in his uniform, he had grey eyes and light brown hair.
"No, I should be the one apologizing," the boy said. "A man should always step aside for a beautiful lady like you."
"Thanks," Callie smiled. "I'm Callie, Callie Andrews." She stuck out her hand.
"I don't believe I've seen your name on the list of students here," the boy said as he shook her hand.
"Oh no, I'm just helping my friend move in, you might know him, Jughead?" Callie asked.
"Ah, Forsythe Pendleton," the boy stated. "I gave him and his girlfriend Betty of Stonewall prep, would you like one?"
"I'll be fine, I am leaving soon," Callie stated. "What is your name?"
"Bret Weston Wallis," Bret stated as he removed his hair. "You care to go out for a bite?"
"As I said I am leaving soon," Callie stated.
"Just go home later, I'm sure the Jones will understand," Bret stated.
"No thank you, I am meeting up with my boyfriend later," Callie stated.
"Boyfriend?" Bret smiled. "I should have known." Callie's phone started to ring, she looked at it. "Does your boyfriend know you are having an affair with this serpent?"
"This serpent is my boyfriend," Callie stated, Bret frowned. "I am going to take this call, it was nice meeting you." She walked away taking the call. "Tree topper, you have fantastic timing."
"In any trouble?" Sweet Pea asked.
"No matter," Callie smiled.
"Are you going to be home in time for Weiss at Archie's community center?" Sweet Pea asked.
"How's Pops?" Callie asked.
"Slow," Sweet Pea answered.
"Sweet Pea! I need you to make a delivery!" Pop Tate shouted.
"Coming!" Sweet Pea shouted. His voice became hushed. "See you soon?"
"See you soon," Callie smiled. The call ended, and in no time Callie was in the El Royle with a few others. She in a chair on the other side of Munroe, and Sweet Pea was next to her.
"Munroe and I will group the kids for boxing and MMA lessons according to their age," Archie informed.
"We'll keep the gym open until 10, so kids like my brother have a place to hang after school and keep them off the streets before they go home," Munroe added.
"Oh, that all sounds wonderful," Ms. Weiss smiled. " I just want you to be aware of how much work this will actually entail.
"And what about school, Archie?" Mom asked.
"No need to worry mom, Mr. Keller said he would be here during the day," Callie informed. Mom still seem unfavorable to the idea.
"Archie, when was the last time the gym had a safety inspection?" Ms. Weiss asked. "If this is really going to be community center there are updates you'll have to do. At minimum, adding a second bathroom."
"Oh, that sounds expensive," Mom frowned.
"We'll figure it out, Mom" Archie assured. After the meeting, Callie was at Sweet Pea's trailer.
"Jones?" Sweet Pea asked as they laid in his bed. He was playing with her hair.
"Settling in," Callie stated. "Though its going to be strange without the other detective."
"It's bound to give you a small break," Sweet Pea stated. "Even a serpent takes a rest." Callie looked up at him. He smiled and kissed her.
"This community center," Callie began as she pulled away. "It's amazing idea, but how are we going to come up with that money?"
"I'm sure we can come up with something," Sweet Pea stated. "Not backing out are you?"
"Of course not," Callie laughed.

The next day at school, Callie sat in the student lounge, she sat on the arm of Archie's chair, coffee in her hands.
"I'm looking at around 40 grand to pay for the renovations that the gym needs," Archie informed.
"I hate to say it again, but I could just lend you the money," Veronica offered.
"No, Ronnie," Archie denied. "I don't want to take any more handouts. I want to work for it."
"I get paid this week, I can put that money towards it," Callie afford.
"No way, Strawberry," Reggie denied. "You earned that."
"It would look bad if I took money from my sister," Archie stated. "I need to figure out what work can be done."
"We could host a charity concert," Kevin offered.
"Could have a bake sale?" Betty suggested.
"You'd have to sell a lot of cupcakes," Munroe stated. Archie leaned in the chair in defeat.
"Now, hold on, I think Bee's onto something," Veronica stated. "Not a bake sale, per se, but...looking at you five strapping young men, there is another classic way to raise money."

Callie was now working a car wash with numerous Bulldogs, Sweet Pea, Vixens, and Veronica outside Pops.
"At the car wash," Veronica sang. "Workin' at the car wash. Girl."
"Thank you," Callie stated as a girl handed her some money. She walked over to the drop box, she walked passed Sweet Pea, he stood behind a sign shirtless. "You are doing amazing."
"I'm only doing it because of you," Sweet Pea stated. "And the kids of the town."
"I think you are enjoy it more than you want to admit Treetopper," Callie stated.
"In your dreams shortstop," Sweet Pea rolled his eyes as Callie went back to help with the cars. After a long after noon, they retreated into Pops, Veronica put soppy money onto one of the tables.
"What's the haul, Ronnie?" Archie asked.
"A little over four," Veronica answered.
"Grand?" Archie smiled. "That's great."
"I believe she means four hundred," Callie corrected as she sat on a bar stool next to Kevin.
"I think overestimated the financial pull of your pectorals," Veronica admitted. Archie in frustration flopped the money onto the table. "Hey, we're just getting started." She rubbed his shoulder. "Maybe we do a Magic Mike night." Archie sighed more. "At La Bonne Nuit."
"That's a no," Callie denied.
"Or dare I say you boys go the full Monty?" Veronica suggested.
"Again, no," Callie denied.
"And why not?" Veronica asked.
"First off, these are high schoolers, second Archie's my brother I don't want to see anything," Callie explained. "We'll figure something else out. We always do."
"I have to agree with Cal, no full monty on this," Archie stated. Veronica sighed. After the car wash, everyone went their separate ways, Callie was now at home. She sat at the kitchen table doing homework when Cheryl called.
"Hey, Cher-bear," Callie greeted. "How are the twins?"
"Sound asleep," Cheryl answered. "I've come to complain Mini-Me."
"Is Thistlehouse still being all spooky?" Callie asked.
"Yes, but now I got an unwanted horror show guest," Cheryl answered. "TT hired some night nurse to help with Nana and the twins."
"You don't sound to happy about that," Callie stated.
"And why would I? I was against it from the start!" Cheryl exclaimed.
"Just give it a few days Cher," Callie advised. "And if something happens you are always free to release him his duties."
"I have my suspicions that this fiend will not be staying around for very wrong," Cheryl stated, sounds of a baby rose. "GTG Dagwood is coming to life." As the phone call ended, the front door opened. She looked over to Jellybean.
"Hey, loser," Jellybean greeted.
"Hello to you as well Jb," Callie greeted as Jellybean opened the fridge.
"We are out of mustard so I am stealing yours," Jellybean stated, she grabbed the mustard, the left through the back door.
"Something on your mind?" Mom asked as she walked down the steps.
"Just the community center," Callie answered. "What Archie wants to put together is highly admirable."
"And what about college?" Mom asked. "You think he's going to skip it?"
"Luckily we have a community college here in Riverdale," Callie stated. "But this community center is Archie's dream, it's a good one as well, he shouldn't let it slip away. The only problem is raising money to fix it up to be a community center."
"Is a community center really best for this town?" Mom asked as she sat at the table. "It's pointless in this town."
"Not necessarily," Callie denied. "In fact, it could be the very thing this town needs in its new start." Mom sighed, Callie grabbed her mom's wrist peacefully. "No need to worry mom, we are Andrews, we always see things through and follow our hearts."
"You are sounding just like your father," Mom smiled as she put her hand over Callie's hand. "I hate to admit but he would be proud of what Archie is doing, I'll make sure think more about it."
*****
That night, Callie was up late putting together her clothes for school tomorrow, on her instead of a murder board she had a fundraising ideas on chalkboard. She smiled, picking up her phone, the call was answer the moment her thumb hit the name.
"Calls?" Valerie asked.
"I know it's sudden, but could you and Melody perhaps put together a show at La Bonne Nuit tomorrow night?" Callie requested. "Some of the proceeds can go to Archie's Community Center."
"A last minute show?" Valerie asked.
"If its too sudden--" Callie began.
"We are in," Valerie stated. "We have been working on our sound since Josie left and this will be the perfect way to put it to the test, so it is what you call a win-win."
"Great! Thank you!" Callie smiled.
"Our kitty claws will not disappoint," Valeria assured before hanging up the phone. She then quickly called Veronica.
"Hey, Ronnie," Callie greeted. "Whoever you have for La Bonne Nuit tomorrow, have them do a early show."
"Need to sing your heart out?" Veronica asked. "Cause I know I do."
"It's a little last minute show," Callie answered. "I got the Pussycats that are still in town to help raise some money for the--"
"I am so down for some PussyCat music," Veronica answered. "Any reason to be out of this soap opera house is a reason I'll take."
"Great! See you tomorrow night," Callie smiled before handing up the phone. She continued to get ready for school as she made calls around to have people come. The next day she saw Betty running around, she seemed on edge.
"Betty?" Callie asked. "You alright?"
"Fine! I'm fine!" Betty answered sharply before going into a classroom. Callie shrugged before making her way to the library, to help tutor some underclassmen. After that, she went to work Archie sat at the bar stool.
"Is your shift over yet?" Archie asked. "Mom is going back to Chicago soon, I want to spend time with her as much as I can before she goes."
"Yeah, I'm almost done," Callie assured softly. "It's just going to me and you for a while. How do you want to do dinner? Pops? I can cook some nights."
"We'll figure it out," Archie assured as he touched her head. "We always do, and luckily you don't go running into trouble like the bear fighter I am." Callie shook her head with a smile. After her shift, Callie and Archie sat at the kitchen table doing homework together.
"Hey," mom greeted as she knocked on the door. "Can we talk?"
"Of course," Callie smiled as looked up as mom walked in.
"What's up?" Archie asked.
" I want you both to come back to Chicago with me," Mom stated.
"Mom we already started out school year," Callie stated.
"You both can finish your senior year there," Mom assured. "You both can start again."
"I don't want to start again," Archie denied. "Neither of us do. Callie is the top of our class, its her final year as a Vixen, no matter where she goes I'm bet she'll get into Harvard like she dreams as for me, my best bet of going to college is on a football scholarship. Otherwise, how would I even be able to afford college?"
"Your father and I started a fund for you two when you were born," Mom informed as she played with the cuffs of her sleeves.
"What?" Archie asked. "A fund? We have money?"
"I was reluctant to tell you because I thought you would want to use it on the community center," Mom admitted.
"Of course I would," Archie admitted.
"Archie," Mom sighed. "As noble as an idea as that may be, do you really think that's going to make a difference here in Riverdale?"
"It never hurts to try mom," Callie stated.
"Callie, I mean, all the crime here," Mom continued. "Your friend Munroe's little brother, beaten up by a bunch of thugs? Is that really the town that you want to invest in? No one is safe here."
"Look, I'm not going to give up on Riverdale the same way you did," Archie stated as he got to his feet.
" I moved to Chicago because I couldn't find a job here," Mom corrected. "And don't blame me if I am trying to stop my child from putting his money into a losing proposition." She turned to walk away.
"Yeah, well, I guess that's the difference between you and me, Mom," Archie shouted as she walked away. She stopped to looked at him. "I don't think Riverdale is a losing proposition. The same as dad. I'm not moving, neither is Callie. And I will make a difference here." Mom walked out of the kitchen, Archie stormed up to his room as Callie cleaned up.
"Hey," a voice greeted. She looked back to see Sweet Pea at the back door. "If you don't hurry up this snake is going be late to a cat show."
"Pea," Callie smiled as she slipped on her shoes. "Thank you for helping last minute."
"Anything for the red princess," Sweet Pea smiled as she opened the door.
*****
The next morning Callie walked out of her house to find Munroe about to open the door.
"Is Red inside?" Munroe asked.
"Oh no," Callie denied. "He spent the night at the community center, I was about to head over, want to join?"
"Yeah, I was about to head over there anyways," Munroe stated. "I'm driving."
"Be my guest," Callie agreed as they got in his car.
"What you got in the envelope?" Munroe asked as they started to make their way over.
"A little last minute fund raiser," Callie answered. "With some help from the Pussycats, at La Bonne Nuit, with help of donations we have about one going to community center."
"Thank these Pussycats for me, they are a god send," Munroe stated.
"You can do it yourself," Callie said as she looked at him. "They do go to school with us."
"Even better," Munroe smiled. "I think this is the first time I actually spent time with you Little Red."
"My brother really likes having you around as a friend," Callie stated. "Thank you."
"We are brothers, brothers help each other out," Munroe stated.
"How's your brother?" Callie asked.
"Doing better and he'll be better if he stops hanging at that arcade till those thugs are gone," Munroe stated. Soon they pulled up to the community center.
"Hey Red! You would not believe what your sister helped pull together with these Pussycats!" Munroe shouted as they walked in. They looked over to see Archie startled, he was on the couch, it looked like he was slowly waking up.
"Arch?" Callie asked as they walked over. He was badly beaten up, they watch him slowly getting up. "What happened to you?"
"What the hell happened?" Munroe demanded.
"You should see Dodger and the other guys," Archie stated.
"Dodger?" Callie repeated.
"All that matters they're not going to be messing with Munroe's brother anytime soon," Archie chuckled.
"You went after them without me?" Munroe asked. "What happens when those scumbags come looking for payback?"
"They're not going to," Archie denied. "I was in disguise."
"Archie," Callie sighed as Munroe held back laughter.
"Oh, so you're a superhero now?" Munroe mocked.
"Look good news is we got enough money to buy a second bathroom," Archie stated.
"I know, your sister got help from the Pussycats, they raised some money," Munroe stated as Callie held out a envelope.
"Great, that can help with the lighting," Archie stated as he pointed to money sitting on the desk. Callie and Munroe both looked at each other before going over to the desk. In the bag, was loads of money.
"Oh, hell no!" Munroe grumbled as Archie stood up. They turned to Archie. "You know we can't use this, right? This money is dirty. Only a fool would spend this cash, it needs to be cleaned first." He threw one at Archie, then turned back at the bag sighing.
"Toni and Pea might know somebody to help clean this," Callie stated.
"Red, any chance your girlfriend could help us?" Munroe asked, they looked back at Archie.
"You take this V, we'll clean this place for the young ones coming in," Callie stated. "I'll call Pea."
"Thank you," Archie stated. Archie went to get help from Veronica, as Callie and Munroe cleaned up the place. Soon Munroe and Pea were conducting a boxing lesson with some kids as Callie and Archie were in the office sorting out papers.
"Jab high, jab high," Munroe instructed.
"Jab low," Sweet Pea instructed.
"Jab high," Munroe instructed.
"Jab low," Sweet Pea instructed.
"And cross," Munroe chuckled as a young girl punched his hand. "Good work."
"And cross!" Sweet Pea instructed. "And...jab."
"And jab!" Munroe encouraged as he continued to get punches from the other kids.
"Need any help?" a voice asked, they looked up to see mom.
"Mom," Callie smiled. "What are you doing here?"
"I was leaving," Mom began as she walked in. "What's going on is I will be focusing on more pro bono work in the foreseeable future, here in Riverdale. And my first order in business is to get your community center declared a 501(c)(3). No matter how intelligent she is, Your sister isn't a lawyer yet, so I will be helping out." Archie seemed confused.
"It's a non-profit," Callie clarified. "Meaning you can ask for donations, you don't have to pay taxes. You can apply for grants."
"Well, that's amazing," Archie admitted. "Expect I don't know how to do any of that."
"I do and so does mom," Callie stated.
"Archie, you're a lot like your dad in that way," Mom laughed. They both just laughed. "So, you'll just leave it to me and your sister and you can go help those kids out there."
"Deal," Archie smiled.
"What happened to Chicago?" Callie asked.
"Um...I'll call the airline and cancel the flight," Mom answered. "I don't think I'll be back anytime soon." They all smiled, they formed a family group hug.
****
After helping out at the community center, Callie was in Sweet Pea's trailer. They laid in bed just cuddling, when there was a loud knocking at the door.
"Who's there?" Sweet Pea demanded. There was no answer, the two looked at each other. Callie got up, she opened the door to find an old fashioned video tape.
"Hey, babe," Callie greeted. "Do you by any chance have VCR? (We still have one of those in the basement at my house.)
"What the?" Pea asked as he sat up more, the serpent tattoo on his neck was more visible than ever from the moon light shining down on it. He reached for his brass knuckles.
"No need, this was the only thing on the door step," Callie stated.
"That's what concerns me," Sweet Pea furrowed his eyebrows.
