Chapter 8
Dawn looked at the new vampires who just stood there and looked around the room. Raoul and Victor inspected them as well. Suddenly one of them fell to the ground right before Dawn. Instinctively she bent down to look at him, he looked to be ill and far paler than the others.
"He's not doing well Leo." Dawn says as she carefully puts her hand on his head.
"Some of them don't live past the turning point. Be careful, they can bite after all." Victor warned her.
"Kill him, he wouldn't make it through the night." Leo sighed.
Dawn took out a silver dagger from her boat and readied herself but when she looked into his eyes, she saw her brother's look of fear. Her heart froze, she could not kill him, he was innocent, and she swore never to kill and innocent. Instead, she helped him sit up against a wall.
"What are you doing?" Raoul questioned Dawn.
"This could be it, what if we used his blood against the queen? Wouldn't it have some effect on her since it made him this ill?" Dawn asked as she looked at them.
They all shrugged at the same time. Victor watched as Leo said he had an idea and took off with Raoul going to aid him. Dawn stood to talk to Victor when the three others suddenly looked at her. Victor saw this and growled at them as if to warn them. A brave one with long red hair came up to Dawn and looked her over.
"I'll kill you, newborn!" Victor threatened the new vampire.
"She's beautiful." the new vampire said as he grabbed Dawn and pulled her right to him smashing his lip against hers.
Raoul and Leo walked back shocked to see Victor about to go charging at the new vampire. Then they saw why, and both wanted to charge at her as well. Instead, the two other new vampires blocked the way, that was new, never had newborns acted like that.
"Something's not right..." Raoul mumbled.
Dawn tried to pull away from the new vampire, but he was strong and held her still. She could feel the passion pouring from his mouth as she looked up and saw his eyes were closed and she was confused as to why he was suddenly kissing her.
"Dawn." he muttered as he pulled away.
Suddenly Dawn realized who he was, this was Rick, he was old friends with her brother. They often trained together, and she had even had a crush on him for the longest time but he was sent off to train under his father's men so he could learn his family's business, it was a trick, they turned him. Dawn grabbed onto Rick and hugged him.
"Not you too." she cried and begged him.
Everyone in the room froze at her words and tears as she embraced the red-haired newborn. Raoul watched as the two others relaxed as Dawn hugged the newborn back. Rick held her close to him as he kissed her head multiple times.
"I didn't know what would happen to me when I left. If I had I would have confessed my love to you before all this. Now I'm a monster and will kill for blood." he whispered to Dawn who looked up at him and shook her head.
"No, the vampires here live off animals you wouldn't have to kill humans." Dawn said as Rick wiped the tears from her eyes. "I know it'll be hard, but you can do it, I know you can."
"Where is your brother?" Rick said, looking around.
"Her whole family was killed because he was not pure and denied the opportunity to become what we are. So instead, the queen killed her whole family, and Andrew just knocked her out." Victor answers for Dawn.
Rick looked down at Dawn and could see every word the other vampire was saying was true. That meant she was completely alone in the world, just knowing that hurt his heart.
"I'm here with you now, I can protect you." Rick says as he tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"From what? She has been here and safe for longer than you think." Andrew spoke up from the top of the stairs.
Everyone watches as Andrew walks down with Michael beside him. Clearly Michael was not happy, but he just went with what Andrew said. Dawn watched as Andrew looked at the three standing newborns then to the sicker one. Andrew moved to grab the sick one when Dawn dashed out in front of him.
"Maybe we can use his blood to at least make the queen sick?" Dawn said standing her ground.
Andrew looked at her skeptical but shrugged, was she right?
"Victor, take the sick one to a bed. Tell us if he does die though." Andrew ordered Victor who rolled his eyes but complied.
Dawn watched as Victor took the sick newborn upstairs.
"So, introductions, who are you three and why did she send you here already?" Andrew asked the three newborns.
"I am Philipe, the eldest of the Branmore house." the one with brown curly hair said as he stepped forward.
"That doesn't matter now, all you will be is a plaything and the sweet lure of death will not come for quite some time." Andrew replies as he moves on.
Now he stood before the one with short dishwater blonde hair who still looked a bit confused.
"I'm William, the eldest son of the Halter family," he replied.
"Alright, Philipe and William, what about the ginger?" Andrew asked Rick.
"I'm Richard Hartfax, obviously the eldest of my family." Rick replied.
"Ah but what is your relationship with our dear Dawn here, rare for vampires to befriend a vampire hunter." Andrew smiled.
"I love her, if I had known of all this before I left, I never would have done so. I would have run away with her to live out the last of our days together." Rick answered and took Andrew a bit in shock.
"Get in line, new boy, most every vampire in this room is drawn to her and she to them. I suggest you get used to the idea of sharing quickly." Andrew said as he turned around and looked at Leo. "Keep her away from the queen, if she knows you all have feelings for a hunter it won't end well for anyone."
"Where will you go?" Dawn asked as she went to Andrew.
"I have to return in a few days, or my death will come much quicker." Andrew sighed, touched by her concern for him. "Raoul, Leo helps me prepare rooms for the new ones. Rick, you found dinner."
Rick looked to Dawn who nodded so he went out the front door to find animals to feast from. Raoul and Leo followed Andrew upstairs leaving Dawn alone with the other two new vampires. They both looked her up and down, Philipe did not take much interest in her while William offered her a friendly smile.
"Do you remember what happened?" Dawn asked, hoping to learn something new from them.
"It was a dark room. We were led into you twit; we didn't see a thing." Philipe spouted at her.
"Wow, you are an asshole. What about you William?" Dawn asked, turning to look at him.
"Not much miss, my parents said I would meet my future bride and they led me into a dark room saying it would be a surprise, that I was doing my family good and providing for them into the future." William answered as he clearly tried to remember what he could. "Then I woke up here before this door."
Nodding Dawn tried to think as Philipe brushed past her nudging her on the way.
"Knock it off Frenchie." William sighed as he went to Dawn as gently brushed off the area where Philipe had touched her. "He apparently has no manners."
Dawn looked at William and could see he was kind and caring. He would have been such a lovely person in the real world had he not been sacrificed to be a vampire to help make his family wealthy and in power. Suddenly Dawn pulled William to her and gave him a big hug.
"I am so sorry this happened to you, it was a lie. Your parents sacrificed you for power and wealth. You are now a creature of the night, and I will do all that I can to keep you safe and show you how to hunt animals not humans." Dawn said as she hugged him tightly.
Then the glass window from the other side broke and loud gun shots went off. Dawn looked shocked trying to see who it was that was shooting into the house. Victor jumped down and braced the doors that were threatening to spill open. Raoul and Leo came and went to what windows they could to try and hold off the invaders. Philipe walked in confused as Dawn took her pistol out for its holster on her side.
"If you don't know how to fight, get out of the way!" Dawn yelled as she went to Leo's side and shot at one of the people trying to get in.
Rick could hear the gunshots; he dropped the animals in his hand and took off running to the house. He burst in through the hedge and could see the house was surrounded by hunters. Dawn was a hunter though so they must be attacking her for taking the vampire's side. Knocking the hunters to the side just to get into the house, he ran to the foyer and was shocked to see Raoul, Leo and Victor were fighting off hunters. Where in the middle of the chaos, Dawn was leaning backward kicking one person back while thrusting her sword into another person. He had seen her pull that move before, she hated it, but it was useful.
He could see more were swarming into the house from the front so he ran up and started to take on anyone he could see. William was shocked as he saw the others fighting, even Dawn who was taking on her fair share of hunters. However, she did not have the reflex and quickness of a vampire. He was shocked when he saw a hunter toss her into a wall and then go to grab her. He would not allow that! He ran over and using his newfound strength he picked the man up by his neck.
"LEAVE HER ALONE!" he yelled at the man before tossing him to the side.
William was now keeping the humans away from Dawn as she finally stood up only to see the last hunter fall from Andrew's grasp. She could see the blood on Andrew's mouth and tried to keep herself from being sick. She went to William and gently touched his shoulder and he turned to her and began to look her over to make sure she was not hurt.
"We lost one." Victor said pointing to Philipe who was on the ground completely motionless and a stake through his heart.
"Not much of a loss, this is going to be hell to clean up." Andrew sighed.
"They were hunters, they must be looking for Dawn." Rick said as he came up to the group.
"Well, we aren't giving her back." Raoul said.
"Not even an option." Leo agreed.
