Chapter 5

Dawn felt groggy as she could feel her body being lifted. She had no clue what was going on or what may happen to her. Instead she kept still and her eyes closed as the person carrying her moved. Unsure how long she had been like this, she forced herself to open her eyes just for a moment. When she did she saw Raoul looking down at her, a blinding light behind him, to her it appeared to be the sun. How that was possible she didn't know, they were vampires after all. Feeling her strength going again, she closed her eyes and succumbed to the darkness again.

Michael watched as Raoul carried Dawn into their new home. In fact it was a mansion his family own but had abandoned as part of a deal. A deal in which cost him his soul and life. One he knew very little about and just the thought of it made him angry. Leo made his way up to Michael and gestured for him to walk inside first. He did so, inside the old mansion was furniture that was shrouded in sheets to protect it from the dust that may ruin the pieces.

"Far enough away from the town to not cause any suspicion." Leo said taking his hat off and placing it on the hat stand.

"With the help of a little magic, we are able to walk in the light, so long as we keep the marks upon us hidden from prying eyes." Victor groans as he looks down at the red mark upon his arm.

Yes, the mark which was a partying gift from Leo's sister who just so happened to know a thing or two about magic, why she hadn't told them about the mark before none of them knew but they were happy to know it worked. To be out in the sun was something all of them missed.

Raoul took Dawn to a bed, laying her down he saw the bite mark on her neck, the bite done by Michael. He too had once done the same thing for the woman he loved only to have things not work out in the long run.

"Don't even think about it." Michael's voice speaks from the doorway.

"Michael, any foolish thoughts in that head of yours can be silenced now. The only man or vampire in her heart is you. Do with that information as you wish." Raoul sighed as he stood from the bed and walked to the door. "Sometimes, you have to trust others even if you don't want to."

Raoul took his leave as Michael looked to the bed. He remembered this room. It was a room he had foolishly made ready for his future fiancé. One that would never come, not in his human life that is. There on the bed now was the woman he planned to one day truly make his. In name and in body. He had known her a short time, that fact he would argue with no one, still that did not change a thing to him.

"As much as I hate to bother you, there is something we need to discuss." Leo called out to Michael who looked as his friend confused. "Come, let her rest."

Leo waited for Michael outside the door, following his friend Michael wondered what Leo would want to talk with him about. Leo led Michael down to the gardens, though they needed work, they were still beautiful. Its not as though it were left completely abandoned, his family checked upon the house every now and again.

"You want her, that is clear, but I believe we have forgotten one very important thing. If she has family, there is no doubt in my mind they will be out looking for her." Leo sighs as he turns to face Michael.

"You are quite right Leo, that thought truly never crossed my mind. Instead I only felt-"Michael sighed as he looked to the ground.

"What every person feels when they are in love, still you must ask her and be ready to anything that she may want to tell you."

Michael nodded in agreement, why had he not thought about her having a family before? Victor walked past them, a bundle of firewood in his hands. The days were growing colder, and they knew that Dawn would need more warmth than they would. With the briefest nod of his head, Victor continued his way up to Dawn. Apparently without those thoughts in his head, he could now focus on keeping her safe. As he reached her door, he was surprised to see it open, he thought he had heard Michael close the door behind him when he left. Peeking inside he saw Dawn standing at the window, looking out down into the gardens.

"Dawn?" Victor questioned and she looked over at him slowly. "You should be resting."

"Resting will do no good, I had a job to do. I was to find the one person who killed everyone in my clan. My mother, father and sister. The only clue I had about this vampire was it was a woman who had a great power. I followed every clue I could and yet I have come no closer to avenging my family. I have failed them." Dawn says as she looks back out the window.

Victor was surprised she was so honest with him, he thought she hated him. Putting the wood down into the fireplace, he started a fire so she could warm herself.

"Revenge is something I want as well, I never asked to be like this. None of us did. We were the first-born sons of our families and we were the sacrifices our families needed for the power and riches they so desperately wanted." Victor sighed as he stood.

"What are you saying?" Dawn asked bewildered and now her full attention was on him.

"We were turned by giving not only our purity away but even our very souls as humans as well. This woman if you could call her that, she only wanted the first-born sons and in exchange she would give their families as much power in the world as they wanted." Victor explained as Dawn crossed the room to stand right before him.

"It was a woman, a female vampire?"

Victor nodded.

"Then what? Why turn you and abandon you all?"

"Each of us were given a home, the last one was Leo's it was set aflame to cover our tracks. This home belonged to Michael's family. Welcome to France Dawn. This plan you have in your head to take revenge, that's all it might ever be, a plan." Victor groans as he turns and walks to the door.

"There's something else, I know that isn't all of it. Please tell me Victor." Dawn called out to him as they turned to look at one another.

"We are the replacement kings, once she grows tired of her mate, she kills them and comes for one of us. The last one was taken five years ago; none make it past ten."

"What about Gwen and Raoul?"

"That was something that never should have happened, yet I don't believe the vampire who did this to us knew about it. Gwen was well hidden. She didn't have to worry as much as you might, you are a hunter though, there is no doubt in my mind that you could handle yourself. Keep Michael safe too."

With that, Victor leaves the room. Dawn knew that she had now found another big clue, she had heard of this vampire doing such acts. Twas the same thing her father on his deathbed told her. He vowed to her that the same vampire that took my family was the same that turned all the first-born sons. Dawn walked out of her room, stopped as the end of the stairs and closed her eyes. She focused as hard as she could to sense Michael and it worked. She ran right to him.

"Dawn? You've awoken so soon?" Michael questioned unsure what to say.

"What happened to you four, the vampire woman, she was the same one that killed my family because we refused her. My brother had already become un pure when she came to our home, once she found out what happened, she tried to kill all of us. Not knowing we were the hunting sort of clan. Instead most of her guards were killed in my home, I swore to kill her myself, but I have no way to find her." Dawn says as she catches her breath.

"And you never will, she is constantly moving. Never truly putting down roots anywhere." Leo said as he walked up to Dawn and held her by her shoulders. "She would kill you before you could even look upon her, believe me when I say this Dawn. A worthy cause you have, but it would only lead in your untimely death."

"Leo, she killed my father right before my eyes. I was so close to killing her if only her husband hadn't knocked me out. I awoke in the barn the next morning to see my whole family dead upon the floor. Tell me how I cannot want to avenge them?!" Dawn said with venom in her voice.

"He only knocked you out? He didn't bite you or anything like that?" Michael asked as now he and Leo were both curious.

"No, I didn't have any bite marks or anything. He just grabbed behind my neck and pushed a pressure point that made me pass out. Why?" Dawn asked bewildered.

"Andrew, the current King was the kindest of us. He saw no need for death and bloodshed. Much different from the queen but he saved you. He must have seen something in you and didn't want it to be killed." Leo said curiously.

Dawn looked between the two of the vampires.

"You don't think?" Michael asked looking to Leo.

"There is a small resemblance but barely noticeable. He could not have thought she was back from the dead." Leo groaned as he started to pace.

"Reincarnation is the word you are looking for dear friends." An unfamiliar voice spoke up from behind Dawn. "You both are correct, Dawn does to me bear a striking resemblance to the only woman I have ever loved, my dear Tessa."

Dawn turned around quickly and saw a man in black pants and boots, a white cotton shirt, long blonde hair tied back out of his face. He looked to Dawn and smiled before gently taking her hand and kissing it.

"I am Andrew, the vampire King for the moment. Dawn do forgive me for our first meeting, I did not wish to see your blood taken from you as well as your life." Andrew said as he lowered her hand and Dawn stood there frozen.

"Andrew, what of the queen, she will know you are missing." Michael asked as he moved to stand between Andrew and Dawn.

"She has four new men to turn, the families are quite restless with her. They all want power." Andrew sighed as he looked at Leo and Michael.

"You truly believe she is Tessa reincarnated? Even if I say that Michael has already claimed her?" Leo asked as he crossed his arms.

"I knew you would find one another, however Michael if you wish to have her, I will fight you for her." Andrew said barring his fangs.

Dawn pushed between the two and slapped them both.

"Shame on the both of you, I am to decide my own fate." Dawn said as she turned to Andrew. "The only thing I want most in the world right now is to have you wife dead before my with my dagger plunged into her heart."

"I would not stop you; she took everything from me. Tessa, my soul, my unborn child." Andrew seethed as he looked to Dawn. "I would enjoy helping you kill her."

Leo shook his head, this was all becoming much more difficult. Raoul walked up and was surprised to see Andrew standing there and even more confused to see why his old friend was angry. Raoul followed Andrew's eyes and he saw they landed on Dawn. What about Dawn made him so angry.

"But I am not her, I am not Tessa. I am Dawn and I could never replace the love you had for Tessa in your heart." Dawn spoke truly when there came a knock at the door.

"For the love of all that's holy, news travels fast, no doubt the neighbors here to welcome us." Leo sighed as he walked past the group. "Normal positions everyone."

Leo went to the door, Dawn took Michael's hand and walked to the side of the room. Andrew watched Dawn like a hawk and she didn't like the way it felt. Though Andrew was handsome, she could sense that whatever kindness his friend once talked of from him had somehow turned to ego and he had more than she ever wanted to witness. Brushing off her dress, the front door opened and caught her attention as three beautiful women entered with an older man and woman at their side.

"Welcome kind sirs, we are your neighbors just a few miles away, these are my daughters-" The man started but Dawn did not listen.

Instead she rested her head against Michael, it was clear she was sending a message to the other women in the room and the message was 'He's mine' and she narrowed her eyes at the woman. The women looked uneasy only for a moment. A brief glint crossed their eyes, the young blonde one went right to Raoul and began to smile brightly at him as he looked uncomfortable with her sudden closeness to him.

"That is Sarah, the youngest." The older man said with a chuckle.

"Tis the youngest always lacking in manners?" Andrew asks like a true snob as he walked over to Dawn and leaned against the wall behind her.

"Forgive her, she is full of spirit kind sir, we just came to welcome you." The older woman replies quickly.

"Madam do not lie, no doubt you heard of young and single men moving in, you came to find husbands for your daughters though I fear I must disappoint you. All of us have made of vow of lust and love to this woman here, none will turn from that vow." Andrew said as he took his index finger and slid it down Dawn's arm.

Dawn held strong not wanting to draw unwanted attention. However she had no idea what Andrew was doing and a part of her wanted to slap him as hard as she could. The older man chuckled and shook his head, maybe he didn't believe Andrew after all, though who in their right mind would.

"Dear boy don't think me a fool, miss you are quite beautiful but to keep the interest of five men would be hardly possible. How could they all share you?" the old man waited for a reply.

All the vampires attention went to Andrew as though he was talking to them through a weird connection in their heads. Dawn waited on baited breath to see what would happen next when Raoul then walked to her and took her in his arms, he dipped her back and kissed her passionately.

"Play along." He whispered into the kiss.

Dawn knew she didn't want them to be found out and only god knows what Andrew would do to them if they didn't play along with his story. Dawn wrapped her arms around Raoul and kissed him back. Pulling her back to a standing position he pulled away slightly only to hear clapping from the old man.

"Three then, three out of five that must be hard work young lady. Can you bare them all children before you die?" the old man asked now getting on Dawn's nerves.

"Do tell then kind sir, which of us do you believe would not want her let alone let her die giving birth to one of our children?" Andrew asked with a chuckle.

He was pointing to Leo. Dawn turned to Leo and she had heard enough from the man. Leaving Raoul behind, Dawn went right to Leo and took his head in her hands. She could see his eyes darting looking at every facial feature she had as she leaned in closer and closer until their lips finally met. She didn't care if people thought bad of her, if she could protect them like they would protect her she could live with the title of whore. She felt Leo lean into the kiss and his arms wrap around her possessively. He took his hand and held her head as he deepened the kiss.

Jealously was running deep through Michael's veins as he watched her kiss not only Raoul but now Leo as well. He knew that Andrew could kill them with the snap of his fingers if they didn't play along, didn't make the scene before him any easier to tolerate.

"Papa, she's a whore, we don't want to marry someone who has been with a whore." The eldest of the daughter with her dark brown hair wound up tight in a bun behind her head.

"You have no say." Her mother scolded her.

Leo pulled away and sensed something off from the family. He gently moved to stand before Dawn. He didn't want something to happen to her if Andrew decided these humans need no longer be among the living.

"I still see one free man." The older man sighed as everyone then looked to Victor.

Victor was unsure what to say or do at that point, Dawn was guarded by Leo and he knew he would have to come up with a story now. Victor walked forward and laughed stopping right before the family with his hands on his hips.

"Nah, you don't. You see a man who has already pledged his love to that woman. She has given me a child who rests upstairs and now she will do the same for my brothers. I suggest you leave and not speak of what you saw here today." Victor said as he now glamouring the family.

Andrew smiled, he could see what Victor was doing and watched approvingly. The older man then tipped his hat and turned on his heel. His family follow in suit right behind him, all but the youngest who had snuck off into the house in hopes she could lure Raoul to want to marry her. Victor shut the doors behind him.

"Really Andrew? Threatening us with Dawn's death if we didn't play along?" Raoul groaned.

"You went with it, that was all you had to do, I wouldn't have killed her anyway, just them." Andrew shrugged.

Dawn relaxed still behind Leo who turned and looked at her. Dawn blushed when he looked at her and quickly went to Michael's side. She didn't know why she blushed, Leo had looked at her many times but something was different about the way he looked at her just then.

Back in her room, Dawn was getting dressed in her dark blue night dress. She didn't pay any attention to her room. Instead she sat down at the vanity and looked at her reflection in the mirror. She began to brush her hair and think about what had just happened downstairs. She had kissed not only Raoul but Leo as well. No matter how hard she tried, her mind kept wondering back to those kisses. With a frustrated sigh, she sat the brush down and turned around to find the blonde youngest sister from before standing there with a mirror in her hand. Sarah swung the mirror and hit Dawn upside the head knocking her out right there upon the floor.
