Chapter 4

Dawn watched as Victor pushed the doors to the mansion open, of course he was angry or blood drunk. Either of which was not right in her mind. He had no right to kill those people no matter what his mind thought was right. The woman was a whore but that was not her death sentence. Michael saw Dawn was still unsettled by what happened as was he and Victor was tackled to the ground as he barely took two steps into the main room.

"Raoul! What the hell are you doing?!" Victor yelled at his attacker as the two began to fight.

"You can't do it! You just can't that head of yours to think past anyone but yourself! Killing two people! What the hell was going on in your mind?!" Raoul yelled as he held Victor against a wall.

"They're dead now, what does it matter-" Victor spat only to have Raoul punch him in the jaw.

"They had families no doubt, families that are already on the hunt for vampires and you go killing. Not a bright move Victor and you should know better then that by now." Leo sighed as he walked down the stairs. "Raoul is right, what you did was foolish, you even put Michael and Dawn in danger."

"She can fight, none should worry about her. No doubt she regrets saving me now and possibly wants to put a stake in my once beating heart." Victor yelled at Leo but looked right at Michael and Dawn. "Yet Michael wants her so bad it makes me sick, he would do anything for that hunter of that I have no doubt but he wont even bite her yet, no I still get visions of her naked body under mine as I pleasure her and drink the blood from her neck over and ov-" Victor spoke only to have Raoul slap him and throw him to the floor.

"Keep those to yourself! We don't need to hear them!" Raoul shouts at Victor who laughs.

"What Raoul? Bring up memories you use to have with Gwen...you should be warning him against this hunter! He will end up hung high just like Gwen!" Victor shouts as he stands up.

Michael now took his chance, grabbing Victor and throwing him across the room and punching him over and over again, though he knew it wouldn't kill Victor it did take out the aggression he had for him. He had no right to speak of Dawn in that way or even Gwen for that matter.

"ENOUGH!" Leo yelled as he walked down the stairs. "Victor, you have caused nothing, but trouble and you knew the rules. Dawn was an exception but you purposely fed from a mortal. You were not in true need of blood perhaps bloodlust but those are not the same. If that is the life you wish for now you cannot stay here, the choice is yours. If the blood of humans is now what you crave you then need to leave, we will not hide a murderer."

Leo was uneasy about giving Victor such a choice for he did not know what the vampire would chose. Victor scoffed and adjusted himself pushing Michael away from him as he walked up to Dawn. She knew he would blame her for this but a small part of him was right and that was what Dawn feared.

"I don't need humans, I'm fine as I am. All I can say to you miss hunter is if Michael isn't man enough to take you to bed and claim you, don't be surprised if one night I make one of my visions comes true." Victor spoke softly so only Dawn could hear him then smiled and walked out of the room.

"We could all hear you Victor." Raoul sighed as he shook his head.

"Good, Michael should listen well." Victor retorted as he continued to walk.

Dawn stood still as Raoul went up to her and carefully lifted her chin as she made eye contact with him.

"Dawn, are you alright?" Raoul asked concerned for her.

"Yes, I just don't want any of his visions to come true." Dawn answered as a small tear escaped her eyes but she quickly wiped it away.

Leo rolled his eyes, he knew that Dawn had given Michael permission to bite her that was why the connection she had with Victor was weakening so quickly. Michael was walking down the hall with his fist clenched tightly. He wanted to claim Dawn but he didn't want it to just happen out of the blue. He wanted it to have meaning and good timing. Neither of which was right after the murder and arson of two bodies in his mind. Opening the door to his room which was not too far from Dawns he went to the window and contemplated everything in his mind.

"Victor may not be lying this time. His head is not in the right place." Leo's voice came from outside Michael's door.

"I know, I couldn't do it there. Two people were just killed before our eyes. I didn't want her to remember our connection with that in mind as well." Michael admits as he looks to Leo. "I want her to never want to leave me Leo, not even give other men a second glance. Is that too much to ask?"

"In her case perhaps since three other men well forgive me vampires live here as well. She will form a different connection with all of us if she decides to stay here forever. I know you wish for what mortals would want with her and for that to ever be possible you must lay claim to her, not turn her, just claim her to put Victor's mind at rest." Leo says as he walks up to his friend. "If not, she may do the one thing you fear most, leave."

Raoul and Dawn were in the chapel of the mansion and she couldn't help but wonder how often Raoul had been in the chapel praying about one thing or another.

"You said Gwen had another, you believed he found out the truth and turned her in?" Dawn asked in a cautious tone.

"Yes, Gwen was someone who I thought I could save. I loved her and when she asked me to change her so she could live out my immortal life together I didn't hesitate. However as you can tell living forever does tend to changes people. Honestly Dawn, who wants to live forever?" Raoul sighed as he looked up to the cross.

"Those who can learn from the past and take those lessons to maybe change the future?" Dawn said and Raoul looked back to her with a gleam in his eyes.

Never had he heard an answer like that before. Most others just agreed with him and went on to a new subject. Not Dawn, she had an answer of hope and understanding. To create a new and better future one needed to learn from the past and not repeat them.

"A wonderful ide-" Raoul began as they both heard glass break. "Dawn...be prepared."

Dawn nodded as she unsheathed her sword and stood at Raoul's side. They both watched the doors and waited to see who had intruded on the ground. Outside the window Dawn could hear voices. Turning her head to see, she could see torches outside the stained glass window. It was a raid. Turning back to Raoul, Dawn took his hand and got his attention.

"It's a mob, you have to warn the others and get out of here." Dawn said but Raoul knew he couldn't leave her there to fight them on her own.

"Michael would kill me if I left you." Raoul said as he grasped her hand and walked over to the secret passage.

Pulling on a random string to Dawn, Raoul opened a panel and there was Leo and Michael waiting for them. Michael grabbed Dawn and held her close to him as they entered the chapel.

"I hate to say this but we are surrounded. This must be thanks to the family of the two Victor killed." Leo sighed as he bolted the chapel doors and then pushed and iron candelabra through the handles to keep it shut.

"What a place to have a stand off." Raoul scoffs as he looks around.

"Where is Victor?" Dawn questioned as she looked around.

"Who knows, maybe he did decide to leave after all?" Leo groaned as he heard the footsteps getting closer and closer.

"Monsters! Beasts! Come out and be ended by the power of the lord almighty!" a loud voice calls out from behind the chapel door.

Dawn rolled her eyes, probably that same judge as before. Taking her pistol in hand she walked up to the door and aimed right through the keyhole, she didn't care who or what she hit she just wanted to hit someone now. Pulling the trigger it was only a matter of seconds as the same voice from before called out in pain and horror.

"DEAR GOD! MY-!" was all that Dawn heard.

Loud screams erupted from behind the door at the same time the stained glass window was broken and a hoard of people came flooding in. The three vampires attacked them though it was in true defense for their own lives. They did not bite them, instead it was worse than that, taring off limbs and Dawn had to turn away just to not become sick, however when she did there stood a man grinning at her.

"Oh dear god." Dawn said as the man brought down his sword but she blocked it just in time.

"Whoring with these demons miss? All they will do is hump you and leave." The man yelled at her as he continued to attack her only to be blocked each time.

"You speak as though you have experienced it, are you jealous kind sir?" Dawn said as she held their swords against one another.

"Of the likes of them and you? Never! I can have any woman I want, you have nothing another does not." The man said as he pushed Dawn back right into a wall making her drop her sword.

Using this to his advantage, the man held Dawn by her neck as he took the tip of his sword and aimed it at her heart.

"As a matter of fact she does, me." Michael spoke in the mans ear before grabbing him and throwing him out a window.

Dawn fell right into Michael's arms. There weren't many men left inside the chapel but the doors were threatening to spill open and release more chaos upon them. Dear god in heaven help them. Raoul and Leo went to Michael's side as he held Dawn close. Whatever was behind the door they would take on together.

The door finally burst open and they were surprised with what they saw. The was Victor, his shirt torn open and blood on his mouth. Looking behind him, they saw the body of what appeared to be an army of men and all of them were either passed out or dead.

"Well, I do believe it is time we relocate. Any objections?" Victor says as he wipes his mouth.

They knew he was right, this mansion was no longer safe. Good that they had three others to chose from though. Leo had decided they would move far from the town and actually leave what was left in ruins. The people of this town were darker than Dawn had known. As she went to the houses of the victims she saw no children, no love of the past, instead they were cold and dark and committed to one person. The Devil, she didn't know how she had missed it but the evidence was all there. The evil they were trying to destroy they were actually using for sacrifices.

Michael loaded the wagon with the last of the things they would need on the journey. Dawn waited on the steps and looked around. She was unsure about going with them. It seemed all she brought to them was danger.

"She's having second thoughts, better do something Michael." Raoul said as he got in the carriage.

Michael walked over to Dawn with a concerned look on his face.

"Dawn? Let's go, let's leave all of this behind us." Michael said offering her his hand.

"What if it follows us? What if I cause your group more harm and exposure? How would that let us forget?" Dawn questioned.

"There are worse things in life then that, we are monsters to people, we will always be hunted but with you beside us, we know what to expect, you can help us prepare." Michael said as he walked up to her and took her face in his hands and looked down at her lovingly. "You give others a reason to keep going, mostly me but please Dawn, don't make me leave without you."

Dawn wanted to run, a part of her couldn't deny that. What she felt for Michael was something she never felt before. It scared her but excited her at the same time. Right as she went to argue with him, he leaned down and kissed her. Victor groaned as he walked past them. Pulling away Dawn couldn't help but smile.

"You, Dawn are the best thing I never knew I needed. I need you with me always." Michael said as he gently tilted her head without her even realizing it.

"Michael?" Dawn asked when she felt him kiss her neck.

"I'm sorry Dawn, I cannot let you go." He confessed as her kissed her neck. "Its too soon but I'm going to tell you right now, the truth it, I love you."

And with that, he sunk his fangs into her neck. Victor yelped out in pain and held him stomach as he fell to the ground. Leo looked away from his book only for a second and then went back to reading. Raoul raised his eye brow at the unconcerned look.

"He'll be fine, breaking the connection hurt like hell while making it is euphoric. Look at them if you want proof." Leo spoke from behind his book.

Raoul looked over at Michael and Dawn. His arms were tightly wrapped around her, supporting her whole body as her arms were wrapped around his neck with one hand holding Michael's hand to her neck. She wasn't pushing him away, she was holding him there. Michael then pulled away and Dawn went limp in his arms. Turning to the carriage, Michael had blood on his lips, the blood of the woman he just confessed to as well as claimed. Stepping up to the carriage, Leo put down his book and looked to Michael.

"Now, truly was that so hard?" Leo smiled.

"I almost couldn't pull away, all the visions running through my head." Michael said as Raoul stopped him.

"If they were anything like Victors please keep them to yourself." Raoul sighed.

Michael chuckled and handed Dawn to Leo who laid her in the seat beside him. Michael went to where Victor was an saw him standing and dusting himself off.

"Took you long enough." Victor commented as he went to the coachman's seat.

"I was waiting for the right moment." Michael told Victor.

"There never is one, it'll do you good to remember that. Get in and lets get the hell out of here." Victor said as he grabbed the reigns to the horses.

Michael nodded and got into the carriage sitting opposite of Dawn who was still asleep and Leo who had her head in his lap but ignored that fact by reading his book. Raoul shut the door and locked it as Victor gave the whistle and the horses took off.

"Do it Raoul." Leo commanded once again from behind the book.

Michael was confused as Raoul stood up and through the hole in the top of the carriage he took out an arrow and lit it from one of the side lamps on the carriage, he took aim and released the arrow right where the target was and the mansion behind them went up in flames. No evidence of them now. Raoul threw the bow off the side of the carriage and then went back to his seat.

"A new town, a new start, a new love. What more could we ask for?" Raoul asked as he looked out the window to the moon that had risen just less than an hour before they left.

"What new love for you Raoul?" Michael questioned.

"He was referring to you." Leo sighed.

Michael looked at Dawn who was sleeping, she lookedso peaceful and content. He prayed he hadn't taken too much blood. Leo had seenMichael staring at Dawn and grinned, this was going to be quite an interestingaddition to their family. For it was a truth that they did not know if anyone ofDawn's own family was out looking for her and what they would do once theyfound out a vampire would very soon mate with her and she would never be ableto leave his side without losing her own sanity?
