The beginning...

Dr. Laurent Nikolas Bourgeois climbed down from the six-stepped ladder and took a few paces back from the 10x10 white board. He'd been adding onto the board and erasing away at it for the past five years. He inspected his work, viewing the board from one edge to the other in its finality. He let out the biggest sigh he'd ever released in his life and spread the widest grin he could muster.

Tears rimmed his eyes as satisfaction and realization overwhelmed every fiber in his body as he began to shake uncontrollably. It was as if he were standing in the middle of the Antarctic in nothing but his underwear.

He'd never felt such a feeling in his life. Not even when he won his first dance battle. That was a lifetime ago though. It was a part of his past that he cherished, but he felt like he owed more to the world and he wouldn't allow himself to go back to that.

The biggest turn in human history was discovered by him. In this room, at this very moment.

Fighting sleepless nights, feelings of defeat, and naysayers.

"And there it is!" he'd said out loud to himself, ever-so proud that he had finally solved the long, sought-after equation on how to make the human consciousness continue on in eternity. Deep down, he knew exposing his findings was a horrible idea; his pride and ego on being able to solve one of human-history's greatest questions would not allow him to keep this to himself though.

He was a part of a small online community of fellow scientists and everyday people who had the same beliefs that were rejected by the majority of human civilization. Their small group were often called conspiracy theorists. Discussion topics ranged from the human consciousness all the way to alien existence.

All science really was, was facts and proof from one side that outweighed the ladder. 2+2 only equals 4 until someone can prove otherwise. Science has always worked in that way. At one point in time, it was believed that the Earth was flat, that humans only used 10% of their brain capacity, and that the famous Albert Einstein's Static Universe Theory held true.

All debunked.

Many famous theorists and scientists have stances on how everything works, but many fail to accept the fact that sometimes their theories are proven wrong. It's only natural that as human innovation progresses and improves, not only do we learn more, but we also solve long-lasting mysteries and viewpoints are changed with modern knowledge.

This is the reason why no one wanted to accept Dr. Bourgeois' standings of the possibility of an everlasting human consciousness.

His twin brother who was still a dancer, begged and pleaded with him not to say anything. Not even to those whom believed him. Larry Bourgeois could only see the outcome of this going one way.

Boy was he right.

It already pained Larry that his twin had given up their passion of dance in order to pursue his other passion in physics; he didn't want to see the one closest to him destroyed in an intellectual community that he himself couldn't understand.

He could easily defend his and his brother's talents when it came to dancing, but he didn't know the first thing about matters of science. It wasn't like he could battle another scientist that had a more appropriate equation than his brother's on the dance floor to prove that they were better.

Dr. Bourgeois went from one University and science club to the next, trying to pitch his outlandish theory, but it fell on deaf ears accompanied with crazy looks. He was shunned in the scientific community after word had spread about his preposterous theory. He retreated into a depression that lasted for months; that is until a day came where a fellow physicist had reached out to him via email.

All it read was:

DR. BOURGEOIS, WE BELIEVE YOU.

Dr. Bourgeois stared at his monitor for what seemed to be hours.

We? Who's 'we'?!
