Chapter 45: Missile Problems

Near the site of the Kraang missile launch, the Mutanimals and Destiny wait patiently for the time to attack. Slash keeps glancing at the wolf girl as she listens to Kraang Subprime shout at his soldiers.

"Let me get this straight, Destiny," Slash starts. "Leonardo may be your usual leader, but right now, you listen to me."

She doesn't even move an eyelash. "I assumed that was a given."

The black-masked turtle widens his eyes a little. "Oh...alright then," he says.

"Problem?" she asks, arching an eyebrow as she looks his way.

"I thought you'd be more...rebellious."

She purses her lips. "You'd be right on any other day," she admits. She glances at her claws, pushing at her cuticles. "I'm already on thin ice with Sensei, though, so I'm gonna have to be obedient for now."

"Ah, so you're a rule breaker," Rockwell muses.

"Only because the rules don't agree with me," she retorts. Before anyone can comment, she nods. "Now would be a good time to attack, by the way."

The Mutanimals burst out of the alley and start smashing into numerous Kraang. Destiny sighs, looking down at her hands as she imagines them morphing into giant black paws. Her stomach twists as she shuts her eyes and morphs, letting out a battle howl.

"Come on, fellas! Keep moving!" Slash orders as they get into the heat of the battle.

Kraang Subprime blinks once as he waits for the Kraang scattered all around him to attack. When they don't move, he groans and starts waving the robotic arms of his Irma suit around.

"I am surrounded by incompetence!" he cries. "Go! Move it! Hustle! Get them!" he orders.

The Kraang obey and start firing off their guns. The five mutants attack viciously, breaking the aliens apart and smashing the broken pieces into bits. Destiny takes on numerous aliens at once, her paws smacking them with the force of giant baseball bats and her teeth crushing them like M&Ms between fingertips.

Rockwell leaps onto a fire escape and puts his feet to his forehead as his eyes glow blue. "Feel the power of my mind!" he shouts. Kraang go flying like frisbees.

Destiny focuses her ears to the sky as she sees a large blimp flying straight towards the missile. She halts to stare at it for just long enough to observe the handmade, repurposed signature that Donatello inputs into all his inventions. Convinced that the blimp is the turtle's doing, she keeps fighting, taking down Biotroids and Kraang whenever they dare cross her path.

Kraang Subprime moves towards the launch panel, but Slash notices his advance and goes after him. "Oh, no you don't!" Slash shouts, smacking the Kraang with his mace and sending him flying.

Subprime rights himself and rounds on Slash with a cackle, spinning blades emerging from his robotic hands. They tussle, twisting and turning away as some blows land and others are blocked. Subprime grabs Slash as he goes for another attack, lifting him into the air, and the Irma head on top of the entire battle suit shoots lasers at the spiked turtle. Slash strains, frees one of his arms, and smacks the Irma head right off with a swift, brutish movement.

"Aah! My head! You jerk!" Subprime bellows, punching Slash in the face and sending him crashing into the ground. "Ha! Nobody messes with Kraang Subprime!" The Kraang turns and moves towards the launchpad. "Now, to launch this sucker."

Slash gets up and rushes over to the giant Kraang, grabbing onto his leg. Leatherhead and Destiny join him, Destiny returning to her human form as they try to keep Subprime back. Rockwell uses his psychic abilities to pull the Kraang as Pigeon Pete pecks at the spot where the Irma head once was. Kraang Subprime struggles and groans as he almost reaches the pad.

"Get off of me, you freaks!" he demands as he struggles.

His pointer finger extends and hits the launch button, making the rocket boot up with a loud rushing noise. Destiny backs off and looks up at the tip of the rocket, noticing the barely noticeable silhouettes of the four turtles perched on top.

"No!" she cries as it starts to bellow, its jets blazing with purple fire.

"For the glory of Kraang!" Subprime cackles.

The rocket launches into the sky with a blast of smoke and a deep rumbling noise that shakes the ground. Destiny starts towards it, but Leatherhead grabs her, keeping his arms around her securely while she flails against him, tears filling her eyes as she looks up at the trail of smoke left in the sky.

"There's nothing you can do, my friend," the alligator tells her softly, his tone pained.

"No...no..." she whispers weakly, stopping her struggling and nearly falling limp.

The rest of the Mutanimals watch as the rocket gets smaller and smaller, carrying the turtles away with them. Destiny sinks to the pavement and stares at the ground, burying her face in her hands and curling her fingers in her bangs.

There's a blast of light from way up in the sky, signalling that the missile has been destroyed. Destiny forces her face up to the sky, still not seeing any sign of her team.

Pigeon Pete squeals with glee and claps his hands together. "The turtles got the missile! Yeah!" he cheers. "This calls for a loaf!"

The pigeon pulls bread out of his army hat and nibbles on it. Nearby, the Irma head bot gets up, scuttling over the body of a fallen Biotroid and coming up behind Pete. The pigeon's back is still turned to it.

"Pete, look out!" Slash shouts.

The bot shoots Pete in the back, making him squawk. Slash deflects the next bullets off of his shell before he whips around and smashes the Irma head to bits in a protective rage.

"You okay?" he asks Pete as he kneels next to his team member.

"I'm good." Pete chirps weakly.

"Booyakasha!" a voice squeals from above, making Destiny perk up and spin towards the source.

Garbage balls go sailing at Kraang Subprime, who's still celebrating the launch of the rocket, from the Turtle Blimp as it comes closer to the ground. Subprime dissolves into panic.

"Kraang! Retreat...for now! Retreat!" he squeals.

His battle suit retracts into its human Irma body, albeit without a head, and he activates his rocket boots and soars into the sky. The remaining Kraang take off, leaving the battle field littered with empty droids. The Mutanimals cheer as the blimp lands and the turtles climb out.

"GUYS!" Destiny shouts, rushing forwards and yanking all of them into a huge group hug. She pulls away and flicks each of their foreheads, making them yelp. "You idiots! Don't scare me like that!"

"Sorry Des," Donatello apologizes, rubbing his head and smiling sheepishly.

She lets out a choked laugh, wiping away the last bit of tears still wetting her cheeks. "Shell, you guys. I thought you exploded at the heart of the sun..."

"Nah, can't get rid of us that easily," Raphael teases.

Leonardo shoves past his brothers and hugs Destiny, his cheek squishing against the top of her head. "I'm glad you're safe too," he says.

She returns the tight hug. "All of you are so reckless sometimes," she mutters.

"Says the girl who clawed Shredder in the face."

"Shut up."

"Leatherhead!" Michelangelo cries as he rushes off to embrace his friend.

"My friend," Leatherhead rumbles.

"I was so scared I'd never see you again," the turtle whispers. His arms are still in place and will stay there for as long as he deems necessary.

"Nice job back there, Pete," Raphael says as he moves to Pigeon Pete. He holds his hand out for a high-three, but pulls it away just as the bird mutant tries to hit it. "Aw, too slow!"

"You know..." Donatello clears his throat. Doctor Rockwell crosses his lanky arms over his chest as the teen rubs the back of his neck. "I think there's room enough for two mutant geniuses in this city, Rockwell."

"I concur. Of course, warm-blooded mammals are still considered far more intelligent than inferior, cold-blooded, tiny-brained reptiles," Rockwell returns, his eyes popping out of his head momentarily as he flashes a teasing grin. Steam practically explodes from Donatello's ears as the chimp chuckles and nudges him. "Burn."

Leonardo walks up to Slash. "I gotta admit, Slash, I'm impressed. You stepped up and saved your teammates when they needed you the most," the blue-masked turtle admits.

"Told you I changed, Leonardo," Slash says. "I'm a different kinda turtle now." They shake hands and Slash's yellow eyes fall on the distant, two-pronged building. "Time to storm TCRI," he announces.

"We'll go to Dimension X and save the citizens of New York," Leonardo agrees. He jerks his hand forward. "Team, let's move."
