Prologue

Liz sat beneath a tree deep in the forest, the outside world faded from her memory, and too far to think of. She held an old book in her hands, running her finger down the pages and gently turning them. She closed the book, the faded title almost unreadable, although she couldn't remember how to read, it had been a long time since she had Needed to. She looked down at the book, wondering what it would be like if she had remained in that far off world, to her it seemed like some sort of dream, but it was once her reality, a reality she had lost, no longer will the sweet memories of that world dance in her mind, and no longer will she remember the faces that had meant everything to her. the papers that fluttered about the streets of that faded world had her dirty face and mattered hair plastered all over it. she didn't need to see it, she didn't even need to read it, but she knew, she knew what those pictures had printed alongside each one, they called her lost, she wasn't lost, Or at least, she didn't feel lost. But that wasn't what they had plastered to every wall, in every news paper and every news clipping, no, that was just a word they had to describe her. What they called her? What they titled her face with? Forest girl. She was the forest girl, a lost child in the dark. She liked the ring to it, the words played at her lips, and she whispered to the emptiness "I'm the forest girl, and this is my wonderland". But unlike them, She knew it was all but empty, a thrilling wonderland where no child should dare play, but she did, and she dared to venture in, and found herself deep in a world she could call her own again, renewed was her childish dreams and hopes, a light which sparkled like the warm bars of sun that peeked through the endless trees.
