Chapter 3

Miku slashed the witch one more time, watching it utter its final scream, as it fell, its giant body collapsing onto the floor. Miku bent down to pick up its grief seed, as the labyrinth faded from around her. Picking it up, she held it to her soul gem, watching the taint float from her soul gem to the grief seed. The witch was quite weak actually, so she probably should have saved the grief seed for later, but she just couldn't be bothered.

"That was a good fight." A voice said from behind her. Miku turned around immediately. Her guard didn't drop though, when she saw another girl, with pale, white hair, and dark, red eyes. Everything about her said to Miku that she was a magical girl, especially when she raised her hand, revealing a ring. A white soul gem was embedded within it, its bright aura glowing.

"So?" Miku inquired, feeling wary. Her time in the arena had made her distrust all other magical girls, even though she was no longer in the arena. The girl only smiled.

"What's wrong?" She asked, "Why don't you trust me? I'll even introduce myself." Miku didn't say anything, and the girl continued.

"My name is Rena." She smiled innocently, but Miku was still wary.

"Rena," She repeated, "That means reborn. That doesn't happen to apply to you does it." Rena looked slightly confused at that.

"Of course not." She replied, "I am myself." Miku didn't know how to reply to that. Rena continued.

"That's past the point anyway," She continued, "I have some business to take care of you." Miku immediately stiffened.

"What business?" She asked. Rena smiled, and held out her hand. A glowing white soul gem appeared, as white light embraced her, making her glow, as she transformed. Finally, she stood there, in a short white dress, which just reached her knees. Strangely though, she was barefoot, and wearing nothing but the dress, and her soul gem, which was on a necklace. Rena smiled, as a pair of flowing, striking lines of light appeared in her hands, like a pair of whips made of pure light.

"I wouldn't recommend resisting." She said, as she lunged forward, the two lines of light lashing forward at Miku. Immediately Miku jumped up, bringing her sword up to one of the whips. Rather than cutting the whips though, the sword was simply encircled by the line of light. Miku gasped, trying to pull her sword out, but it was stuck. With a deft flick of her wrist, Rena sent Miku flying into the air, yanked by her whips.

Letting go of her sword, Miku dropped to the ground, as she watched her sword disappear in a shower of sparks, within the whip. Rena's giggle could be heard, as she observed Miku, crouching there, shocked.

"You know, you're not caught yet," She smiled, "So I'll take it as you're really strong." With another flick of her wrists, she sent the two blinding whips of light hurtling towards Miku. With a cry of shock, Miku rolled out of the way, summoning the rifles she had seen Mami use. She remembered their design, how Mami had fired them effortlessly at her opponents, as the rifles came to existence in her hands.

"I didn't know you had that kind of ability." Rena remarked in surprise, as she lashed her whips out with a snap towards Miku again. Miku fired the two rifles at Rena, before diving out of the way again. She thought she heard the bullets make contact with the girl's ghost-like form, but when she looked up again, Rena was unharmed, as she stood there, smiling.

"Huh?" Miku was confused, but she came to her wits eventually, as she summoned a pair of rifles again. Firing them at Rena, she made sure her bullets were aimed directly at the girl. Suddenly a blinding white whip wrapped itself around her arm. Miku felt another one wrap itself around her waist, as she was lifted into the air, screaming and struggling.

Rena stood below Miku, her eyes dancing with amusement, as she watched her struggling captive.

"Don't worry, the hard part's over now," She reassured her, "You'll only feel a little bi of pain, and then it will be gone." Miku's eyes widened, as she felt the whips tighten, and the pain began. It was like something was yanking her life out of her. She felt hersef scream, but she was only vaguely aware if it. The pain intensified, and then she couldn't feel anything.
